Such a cosy little cafe off the main street in St Kilda. I haven't had a meal off the menu here yet, usually grab a coffee and muffin on my morning walk.
I've had coffee here probably about 5 times. 4 times was perfect, however one time they made my coffee so weak and milky I had to return it. I'm not scoring them lower for that though, as they happily made me a new one and it was much stronger. I didn't recognise the barista also so they may have been new.
It's a bit hit and miss with the muffins, a couple of times they've been super fresh with loads of berries in them. The other times they were quite dry and less berries but still edible.
Although in my experience there's been a bit of a lack of consistency (please note we've been here many times), the friendly staff and great vibes do make up for it in my opinion.
My new favourite place to eat! Such a sweet and charming little cafe, with really yummy and well-priced food. And the customer service is top-notch.
Rustic and simple decor. Very well thought out and carefully accessorised.
The food and hot drinks are brilliantly done, hot, satisfying and good value for the reasonable prices.
Oh and the people that work there! Gorgeous! The kind that look like they don't need to try and are oblivious to it but whilst you are admiring them or the food, they're being lovely and genuine.
Cannot recommend this gem enough.
Love everything about this venue!! Alwaus greeted by friendly staff and always leave feeling full and satisfied!! Love, love, love!! Has become our regular breakfast place!
Delicious fried eggs on toast, crispy on the bottom the way they should be!😀 with 3 sides and all so well cooked. Gluten free toast was good too - haven't tried that one before..they may bake it themselves. A bit cold outside with doggy but food wise - perfect!
Great energy here . Staff friendly ,service great . Food delicious ,good value . Delightful cafe a favourite for every reason . Coming back and recommend .
Best smashed avocado (with feta!) I've had in Melbourne in a long while, went beautifully with a poached egg and a side of the most perfectly grilled halloumi. Smiley friendly vibes to top it all of!
领家小馆,他们好像认识来吃饭的所有人,把顾客当做朋友一样。食物比较普通,来这里也是图个舒服自在。
Comfortable neighbourhood cafe, people are really nice although foods are not superb.
Meh. A nice little cafe but far from being a gem. Coffee not so great for st kilda standards. No newspapers or anything to read. And breakfast was small expensive and not the tastiest on the block. Visit once if you are nearby, but definitely not 4.3
This is such a hidden gem amongst the plethora of cafes and restaurants in St Kilda. What Kotch Lane lacks in size, it certainly makes up for in the quality of food, coffee and friendly service. The cafe may be a tight squeeze inside with mismatched furniture and a quirky decor but these qualities only add to the relaxed atmosphere. The Halloumi sandwich is delicious and a personal favourite, the mix of hommus with cucumber and the kick of chilli is a winning combination. This small cafe makes for a great casual place to grab a bite with fair prices, however due to limited space, it can be difficult to get a table.
A tiny cafe with a focus on regulars. The service is friendly, but a bit haphazard and the crowded tables make for a somewhat jostled dining experience. Food offerings are limited, but tasty and the coffee is one of my top 5 in St Kilda.
Cute styling, amazing food and friendly staff what more do you need? Great variety on the menu and really well priced. Will be going back for sure!
Fantastic little sneaky spot in St kilda! My partner and I come here most weekends, for the great coffee, yummy food and brilliant customer service! Recommend the porridge for those that like sweet brekky's, the mushrooms are Devine , and we can't go past the jerk chicken "sammich"
We headed here on a Sunday morning looking for something to wake our taste buds after a messy night. This is no hangover food though - the menu was fresh and inviting, and the service was flawless. We ate the Breakfast Bruschetta and the Lankan Omlette - the eggs were light and fluffy, the pumpkin sourdough was delicious, and the seasoning was perfect. The only negative: a cramped interior - although the seats were comfortable.
What a wonderful tiny surprise this little cafe turned out to be! The coffee was smooth and almost like honey! Not acidic and served at perfect temperature. I had smoked salmon with poached eggs on toast and it sure hit the spot. Lovely!
Definitely a local favourite. Nice vibe, no spectators. My tuna salad was excellent and I'm looking forward to trying the Jamaican jerk sandwich. Coffee was pretty good too
Love this little café, food is always good and the staff are always so friendly. Lovely atmosphere and great coffee!Highly recommend the Jerk Chicken sandwich!
Massive fan of this place. It's only small and can seat about 15 people but that adds to the appeal. The menu is on point with all the regulars - smashed avo & feta, Breakie bruschetta, porridge, Bircher, fruit toast or build you own eggs on toast with any array of sides. The menu is written on the chalkboard wall and is a great feature. Staff are friendly and service is quick. They also play some great chilled tunes that set up a chilled vibe. The food and coffee we great so I would highly recommend seeking this place out!
The coffee here is absolutely amazing. We had breakfast and can both recommend the 'Grilled Haloumi Melt' and the 'Grilled Mushrooms'. They serve both on awesome (self made?) bread.
Excellent service, excellent coffee and magnificent food!. I wanted to try this place especially after I heard it was under new management. I loved every second of being there, staff was ultra friendly, environment was super cool and above all, food was worth the price.
I'm certainly a regular now.
Gr8 food and service. Must have pork salad.
Kotch Lane - St. Kilda, Melbourne. Kotch Lane finds itself on a small street acting as an off-shoot from the very trendy Acland Street.
With my big sister, she was meeting her good friend here with local heresay of it. This place is very chilled - hence the name "kotch", inspired by street slang - and the seating is eclectic aiming more for comfort than anything else. It is small inside and cosy.
The service here is very friendly and efficient. When ordering the meals, they came out at quite a reasonable time that it was before pondering what was taking so long yet it took long enough that care and quality were being taken when making the meals.
Despite having visited Melbourne many times in the past (most of my relatives live down here) I have not gotten around to having one the much-discussed and praised coffees. Part of that is to only catching on to drinking coffee in the past few years, however now was the perfect opportunity to have a coffee. So, to go with breakfast I ordered the usual: double cappuccino. This coffee was well made, really strong
There is a small, but not uninspired selection of items for breakfast. It is seasonal and made fresh all in-house. I even have to contend for the lunch menu that the salads and sandwiches did not sound all bad and some even a bit tempting. However, in spite of all that there was one special item which was shown on the door.
This special was a kale & coconut fry which came with a combination of scrambled eggs and tomato salsa on top of a thick slice of sourdough toast. On the side, there was the option of getting bacon which I requested and requested it to be crispy. They more than delivered on that latter request; it was salty, greasy and crunchy. The meat could be cut up into pieces to be combined with the fry.
As for the actual fry itself, it was delicious. Several different flavours ranging from subtle to characteristic were co-operatively present. All up, it maintained a freshness to it all on top of a good quality cut of bread.
Being with a group who shares, the meals were passed around for everyone to try everything. The other ones were:
the omlette, which contained zucchini, goat's cheese and chilli coming with a side of bacon.
the house beans which had feta and a poached egg along with it
and the grilled mushrooms on toast with goat's cheese and herbs.
Each of these were tasty and fresh, with the beans being the main pick; they were obviously freshly made with a variety of legumes.
If this is an example of how breakfast is in Melborune, then there is a lot to look forward to with subsequent visiits. Assuming I am in the general area and staying there, this is a good go-to place for something familar and quick.
Owner of this tiny place recognised even after being away for more than 2 years. Very friendly staff, good service, good food. Best coffee in Australia, made with passion. Worthwhile an hour travelling.
I love this place! My favorite local coffee stop. I've only had the coffee and muffins but its always good and the staff are so friendly. I always feel welcome and will definitely keep coming back :)
Nice place.. Food is pretty spot on and I don't say that often. Coffee is good, service is great and the two owners are friendly and accomodating. I go there for breakfast alot, they have this Thai omlete thing, can't remember the name but its good.
So, so good. Thanks for a b.... So, so good.
Thanks for a beautiful breakfast guys, great way to make porridge gourmet & delicious! Great little cafe, good options, nice atmosphere, cruisey tunes = happy camper!
Well worth the trip to St Kilda, to seek out this bustling little treasure. No sooner had we sat down than a tray of hot blueberry and white chocolate muffins hit the counter...there they are people, impossible to resist, the perfect end to a breakfast that started with strong coffee, transitioned to a light avocado and feta number drizzled with lemon all on a crunchy turkish bread base garnished with the freshest rocket. Oh yeah, those muffins: served with cream they were, predictably, the bom-diggity!!
A superbly simple, unpretentious way to eat well with friends.
Cool place. Friendly staff, great coffee and beautiful food. Had brekkie here and the menu was limited but very tasty. A well run cafe that takes pride in customer service and quality food and coffee. Thanks guys
I enjoyed the pumpkin salad :)
Sssssh! local secret, not to be shared with outta towners! this is a genuine hidden treasure....
Amazing food as usual. Lovely staff, amazing food using great produces and good coffee, what else could you ask for? Love going there every time. Don't change a thing Kotch Lane!
Absolutely love it!. I came here for breakfast this morning and i'm really happy I made the decision to go to kotch lane as it was just a great experience. Love how they have everything in a kind of vintage style, lovely little tables and chairs outside. the waitress that greeted me was just in such a great mood and so friendly. my coffee didn't take long at all and tasted great. for breakfast i had halloumi pancakes with 2 poached eggs and tomatoe relish. it was delish!!
Liked the coffee, the food, the service, the whole atmosphere!! Definitely recommend this little hidden place!

I challenge you to find something as high quality in St Kilda for the price. Amazing food, tasty coffee.
Crisp on palate long mach. Homey ambience. Love it :)
Very nice and a relaxed atmosphere. Fritters were yummo!
Lovin the layback tunes, no one trying too hard here. Honest tasty food
What a find. I took my daughter here and she was apprehensive when viewing the location and the outside. Inside has the feel of a central American cafe. The menu is imaginative and the price is excellent for the quality of food and the service. Next time you are in St Kilda make a visit and enjoy.
Our favourite cafe.... Great coffee, great food, friendly people. We love this place.
Good for what it is. This place is very st kilda.
food was ok, definitely nothing to write home about.
cute, but that's about it.

Adorable!. A cosy inviting cafe, tucked away from the bustle of near by Acland Street. Their menu has great variation and most of the items all sounds so yummy I could sit and try each one! The furniture and decor is kitch and cute, newspapers on the tables, friendly staff, great coffee, and all reasonably priced for good quality tasty food. I'll definitely return here.
Best Kept Secret!!!. I first stumbled across quaint little Kotch a couple of years ago, I feel it's described best as an extension of one's lounge room! The super chilled atmosphere, the great service, coffee and music has made it my daily lunch spot, not to mention it's hard to pass up their steak sandwich on house made bread! A must see....
Stumbled on this little place by accident, tucked away on Blessington St. Fabulous coffee, friendly staff, everchanging inventive breakfast menu & the best muffins baked throughout the day. Grab a raspberry & white choc one still warm from the oven
Probably the highlight for Kotch Lane though, is the excellent Rosso coffee which is always reliably prepared and the house made muffins which if you arrive at the right time are still warm from the oven.
A cafe that will make you feel at home, heaps of locals and also dogs. Food is good but towards the pricy end, if you get the spanish baked eggs don’t add chorizos as they take away from the essence of the beans.
Excellent service and delicious food. The coffee was well made and everything was lovely. It's quite a small place, but seems to have a great local vibe. The air was hipstereous, filled with casual music. Can't wait to return here, hopefully with the same group of friends 🤗
Sensational food and service a great relaxing friendly place with nice coffee and people but the secret in st Kilda is now out ! Take a look for yourself, you'll be glad you did !! as I am 😀 👍👍
Best brunch in St Kilda! Great coffee. Highly recommended!
A cute little café up a leafy side street near Ackland Street in Saint Kilda. The menu of appetising sandwiches is small, but creative and the service is friendly. The food itself is tasty and the coffee is good too, so worth a visit if you are in the area. It's a small café with limited seating capacity, but they also have tables outside under the shade of a large tree.
We were there as tourists just over a year ago. A splendid find. Friendly and great fresh food. We drank coffee outside whilst we waited for a table - time well spent!
The coffee is spot on. Right temperature, never burnt and definitely worth the price. But the best part is being greeted with a warm welcoming smile, every single time. The cafe gets a little busy in the mornings but never seen the barista get stressed out.
