Review Embassy97 - St Kilda

Food was amazing in taste. However, my partner and I went in on a quiet night (only us and 1 other guy) but somehow waited over 45 minutes for our mains which were 2 steaks with minimum veg and a bowl of chips. They other guy dining came in after us, ordered after us, but got all of his food (entrees and main) and managed to finish eating it before we got our mains.

The food was sublime, the service was efficient and our waiter was very friendly. Not to mention, the crème brûlée we ordered for dessert was probably one of the best I've had. We visited on a Sunday evening which may have been the reason the restaurant was relatively quiet, but this place deserves so many more customers! If ever in St Kilda, do yourself a favour and visit Embassy@97.

I went there last night, and ordered some snails... being French, I do know that snails are sold in dozens.. not 6. I received my entree, and only got 6... however 1 shell was empty.. I pointed it out to the lovely waitress, and 10mns later was brought 1 single serve of snail in a plate.. which I thought was rather silly... I cancelled the rest of my meal and took my bottle of French Pinot with me and left.. this has costed me $102!!!. Overly priced and not a great restaurant in my view.. $16 for "6" snails.... hello!!! I was very disappointed. ..just bad timing I guess.. that was my experience... and I am sure it is different for other people..

Great French food. A little gem in St. Kilda. Attentive and friendly waiter and stylish environs. We visited on an evening with two fixed menus to choose between, both were excellent.

Came with a voucher, and what a beautiful bistro and such a great deal. Amazing food, service is perfect and this place is so cosy and relaxing. We will be back soon.

Embassy had the nerve to send me an email cancelling the day after my booking... Yes I knew you closed shop, I came all the way in to find out you didn't have the professional courtesy to call me in time to cancel. Also received confirmation emails / text for my booking. Hopeless fools run this place, beware!

Very dissapointing meal. With such a limited menu everything should be done to prefection, overcooked meat and questionable mussels are inexcusable.

The food was good but they need more staff on to assist their customers. We were dining on a Saturday night and the wait on food was over 40 minutes between courses and our plates were not cleared for a long time after each meal. The limited staff were to rushed off their feet to cope with the traffic to deliver an efficient service.

For a french restaraunt it was reasonably priced. I had the beef wellington which was nice but would of liked it not well done.. sauce it came with was tasteless....ate it all though....my husband had eye fillet steak but they had no bernaise sauce...even though on the webpage it says it has it..cant french places get the apprentice each day whip up a fresh batch as it should be a staple on the menu otherwise update ur menu online...might give it another go if they can have bernaise with the steak...happy to pay extra for it.

Food was great as was the service. Price was a little on the high end but well worth every cent. It's never overly busy which is surprising great seafood selection on the menu.

On a very cold St Kilda weeknight it was a given that we weren't inclined to traverse too far in search of some quality sustenance. We settled on this French bistro, which looked promising.

Now, this place is pricey, but I'll get to that in a moment. But first, the food: undeniably, the food we were served up was of a very high quality. We both had steak - one a classic eye fillet the other a French take on beef wellington. Both cooked nicely with beautiful cuts of meat. The mushroom sauce - clearly made from scratch - was the best I've had in recent memory.

Pommie frites on the side with a couple of kronenbourgs, all round this was pretty satisfying. To finish, the 70% cocoa mousse, served almost as a sandwich with vanilla ice cream as filling, and a lovely lemon tart. All delish.

In terms of negatives, they did forget our entree of smoked pork sausage - no huge deal in the end because we probably didn't need it. While the food was good, you pay for it. The price is high, and given the setting, surroundings and atmosphere, it's a little over the odds. But if a menu is going to be overpriced, the saving grace is that you go home satisfied and your tastebuds fulfilled.

Tough one to rate. Some aspects of the dishes were amazing, and others not so.

My canard a l'orange had an amazing sauce, but the duck was a bit dry. My wife's lobster/prawn ravioli was cooked well, but too creamy with nothing to cut through it.

My strawberry crepes were delicious, with a surprising smokiness that really added something. But I felt let down that there were only tiny slivers of strawberry - I'm not even sure they made up a total of half a strawberry. Felt quite stingy. As did the size of our side of greens.

My wife's chocolate mousse was very nice but the ice cream was slightly crystallised.

2 adults, 2 kids = $144. I don't mind paying that for a filling fine dining meal. But there was needless stinginess and there were a few too many mistakes to pay that much. My advice: Either lower the price or get rid of the mistakes. And don't be stingy for that price!

Some real hits, but mixed some just average elements. The hits for me is the sauce for the duck l'orange and the crepes. Problem being it was quite pricey and I was left wanting.

An example would be stawberry crepe with no strawberries? Lobster ravioli which was so creamy I couldn't tast the delicate lobster or prawn. The duck was over cooked and the ice cream was crystallized.... As I said some hits but mixed with misses. We just paid $144 for 4 itty bitty dishes where the hero of each dish got lost...

Not sure what to think other than confused.
