Review Falafel Extra - St Kilda

James Allnutt
Falafel extra is well worth the money - they have loads of salad options available, and with the make your own - the servings are really generous. With a stacked plate of VEGAN options - left here very full and very happy. The Falafel is so so good. Staff were really nice and outlined all the options and had a good chat with us as to what is in the area.

The two young ladies working there today 28th may were bubbly and provided very friendly service What makes this place different from any regular donor kebab shop is the self service salad bar. Plenty of options to choice from and all look freshly made. Falafel bites are also freshly made to order.

Guys, you need to look into your staff attitude as it is absolutely atrocious. Your food is amazing, and I never miss an opportunity to brag about it, but with this kind of customer service, it makes it hard to want to come back. Your staff member with the black frame glasses needs a lesson on how to speak and control his sour facial expressions. A smile won't crack his face and welcoming attitude won't hurt his feelings. You have a 3.6 star rating solely over your terrible customer service which sad for a place that serves delicious food. I have been a loyal customer with at least 3 times visit to your store over the past 3 years and I have had some terrible experience there and I let it slide, but today was the last straw for this kind of treatment for someone who just wants to come into your place, feel welcomed and enjoy their meal.

The falafel place has real good ones:) reminded me of ones in Paris! Had Falafel wraps twice! The papers wrapping the wrap was quite tight so hard to eat as I go on eating but I definitely loved the taste of this wrap. Beautiful👍🏻!

They overcharged me for chips & sauce, despite them telling me the chips were"regular size"-they were tiny & "diet-sized" is all I can describe them as!! Lack of variety & so over-priced I won't be going back there again. Chips also tasted too soggy & not flavoured enough to suit my palate.

The place charges 1.5% extra for credit even if you use an eftpos card. Quick service is a priority over customer interaction as it’s a new kebab concept yet no one there to explain. A man came in asking if there are grain free option and left thinking it was a bad question to ask.

I'm not sure if this is the same business or if they are under a new name management?! But this location whatever they're under now has been around for a near 30 years!!! That's a long time right here before vegetarian/vegan food even became an in thing for the last 5 years. As a kid around 1990 myself and my friends back then were always appreciate of the free falafels they handed out and only more till now that I'm transcending towards vegetarian food (still have chicken/fish once in a while) I'm even more thankful for how long these guys have been around and how they have stood the test of time. An original st. kilda business here support them where you can?! And I hope they will still be around as 1990 to 2019+ is still a great legacy here.

Ordered a gluten free falafel wrap. First charged $13.95 then they asked for an extra $2 5 minutes later for gluten free. $15.95 for bread, lettuce and 8 falafel balls. Total rip off and poor service.

Falafel wrap is normal nothing special. However is not card friendly. Excessive card surcharge of 1.25% is outdated in current cashless society!

Had a salad bowl here which you construct yourself from the counter, such a tasty selection and some of the best falafel I’ve ever had! Would highly recommend as a quick lunch stop off

Chicken kebab. So bland and void of any care, consideration or flavour. It makes you wonder why people bother or how they stay in business. Ctrl+Z on this place.

Very fresh salad selection. The garlic sauce and hummus were a perfect match with the baby falafels. I live the bucket of hot chilli sauce/oil at the end. Serve yourself just the way you like your pitta. ♥️ this place.

A really terrible place, there were rats running freely, the food wasn't edible, I saw the worker shove his finger to his ear. smell it, and then prepare food without gloves, disgusting!

Absolutely love this place! Their food, salads and falafel are so tasty and it’s all fresh. I love the idea of self serving and in regards to food, I have no complaints. The only thing I find is that it’s a little pricy (mainly the pockets) considering the interior is not cozy at all and it’s self service. Would recommend for a snack on the hand, eating in is cold and uncomfortable.

Don’t eat here. This place has gone down hill. Badly. Owner appears to be all about cutting costs. The server, (who appeared to be the owner) was rude, taking our order. Otherwise we were ignored. We confirmed the majority of dips (tahina ,etc) have breadcrumbs in them. I asked for a fork but the owner refused - demanding that I pay extra. We were eating in. I had to get a fork from another cafe. The new owner appears to be more focused on cost cutting, and less on his customers. Don’t eat here. There’s so many great places to eat on Acland Street.

This place should be 5 stars! Best falafels I’ve ever had! Get the falafel and salad box/plate and you can just serve yourself up a huge plate of yummy salads, falafels and dips! Soo many vegan options and the flavours are delicious and full on! Service is sometimes a little rude but I don’t really care when the food is amazing.

The falafel is delicious, the staff are friendly and the wait-time is reasonable. Only issue is that the service is a bit inconsistent in that the ingredients within the falafel kebab wraps I get are positionally distributed in a drastically different way each time and they're often wrapped horribly; plus the chips are cooked differently each time (sometimes harder, softer, more salt, less salt etc) and the prices and deals can change suddenly like how the price for the kebab wrap was randomly raised recently or how you used to be able to choose a small or regular serve of chips with it but now you can only get one size. Regardless, overall I've tried many falafel kebab wraps over the years and the ones here are still my absolute favourite :)

Don't order from Uber Eats unless you enjoy calling uber to try and fix an incorrect order. All three orders I have placed with Falafel Extra have been incorrect in some way, from taking over an hour to arrive or constantly missing items. What's worse is that they don't seem to care at all that they've made a mistake and do nothing to compensate for it.

Wonderful service by lovely woman serving us tonight. First she tantalised us with tasting opportunities, so we went in and gave it a try. Definitely worth while, fresh, tasty food with plenty of good choices.

Why have the loyalty cards gone?! They were such a good incentive....I like this restaurant as its convenient and quick. It's quite appealing to those after salads too.

Falafels are so good here! Some of the best I've had. Self serve salads are really yum and fresh. It's great as you can get as much as you'd like. Everything is clearly labeled whether it's vegan/vegetarian/gluten free etc.

This place is so, so good!
The falafels are amazing- crunchy, fresh and full of flavour. They're made right in front of you, and you can always have a free sample. There are a mix of 6 -10 salads every day, though it changes and you'll never know when your favourite will come back, which can be a bit annoying.
The hommus is light and beautiful, and the pickled mango chutney is delicious. Other favourites include the baba ganoush, the pickled turnip, the fresh pita and the lamb, sweet potato and carrot salad.
Truthfully, there is no dip or salad I don't like from here. I always get the take away containers so I can have the food during the week!
It isn't exactly a nice place to sit down for a cosy meal, it is definitely more a casual juice bar and take away / quick meal cafe. Can be cold, but the food makes up for it, trust me!

I've been eating Falafels here since I was a teenager (it's been renamed since then). Great option for fast, healthy, vegetarian food. I really want to say something about the staff though. Today I was in there with a friend (she got a fresh juice, I'd already eaten) and we went outside a sat on the tiled concreate pillars a few doors down. I had my expensive Bose headphones in a plastic supermarket bag with some food and I accidentally left it on the pilar. I only realised 40mins later when I was driving home. I called Falafel Extra and the friendly young man said the bag wasn't in the shop. I explained where we were sitting and asked if he could please pop his head out the door and see if the bag was still there. He walked out of the shop and lucky for me my expensive headphones had spent 40mins on a St Klida bench and were still there. I explained to the young man that I couldn't get back to St Kilda until after I'd picked my daughter up from school and dropped her off at swimming. Eternally grateful for his honesty and for happily helping me out well beyond his job description because I wouldn't have been able to replace those headphones.

Bonehead staff, rude service, greasy food and misleading menu prices. The $12.95 "Chicken wrap with salad and dip" does NOT include a side salad with dip. It only includes the salad and sauce INSIDE your wrap. See the photo to illustrate the horrible grease that was oozing from my chicken wrap. I hope this place closes soon because its wasting precious space on the strip.

This place is so overpriced , If your looking at buying any sort of smoothie .. DON'T I paid $6.95 for a smoothie that was a kids size equivalent at boost juice .. Worst juice I've ever had , spend your money elsewhere

My go-to lunch place. A while back Falafel Extra lured me in with free samples and since then I have turned into the biggest advocate for this place. The falafels are the best I've ever tasted and they have so many delicious and healthy options for lunch. Sometimes I get falafel wraps, a self-serve salad container or just plain falafels for a snack. Either way I always love it! I always tell my friends to go there when they're in St Kilda too.

Falafel King. Eaten my fair share of kebabs and falafels during my poor student days and this is one of the best.
Great balls of awesomeness

Best Falafels EVER!. I stumbled across this place when I was hungover on a Saturday morning (afternoon) and thought that it would be a safe healthy option. We were given taste testers when we first which is always a good sign. The falafels were amazing and we watched them being made so they were nice and fresh. I think I'll make this a regular hangover cure.
