Review Hannah Cafe - St Kilda

Friendly Traveller
Well -what an experience?? Dropped by to get a take away coffee and savoury muffin. The coffee was far too strong for my taste and therefore I didn't enjoy it. The muffin was large, tasty and fresh. The experience was unusual as the guy taking orders was yelling at a staff member and showing off in front of customers. The whole visit was unsettling and not one I will repeat.

Everytime i walk past this cafe the owner is outside the front door smoking. Very unpleasant and off putting, coffee I have had I the past is mediocre. Plenty of other great cafes around, don't waste your time with this one.
Angry Buddha
Asked for a latte. Got a flat white with no foam that spilled everywhere when I took the lid off.

The coffee is reallyyyyy good (even the soy mocha), the waiter is so friendly! We were sharing and they gave us an extra piece of toast :)

what a place seem busy but pretty cosy and quiet , tried the Bircher Muesli , it was amazed coffee was great, my Magic was perfect. love the staffs cause they are pretty friendly

A lovely cafe, very welcoming and great decor. I especially love the plans and vines that encapsulate all the external windows. It creates a beautiful atmosphere. They make lovely coffee here, occasionally a bit bitter but that suits me just fine. It’s also never too busy so you don’t have to wait hours for a table. Also their bathroom amenities are perfect and clean. A weird thing to bring up but I get super tired of using the facilities and wondering how people treat their own bathrooms 🚽

First up great coffee - really great coffee. Add to that a selection of the standard cake fare but with great alternative flavours seen little where else. Only small thing is the small size of the venue so big groups are better off elsewhere.

Wanted to try this Cafe after I noticed people walking out with coffees and it seemed cute. The man who served me immediately made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome and I spent the entire time waiting for my coffee and a croissant feeling uneasy and wanting to get out. The coffee was ok, but the tomato in the croissant was cut too thick. Overall an unsettling cafe experience and I wouldn't recommend.

What an odd place. A nice setting and a menu that looked full of potential. However, my beans were WAY too sweet and overpowered the other flavours in an oddly presented meal (why do we need another napkin under the toast?). The wait staff need training - it's not ok to try to put my meal down on top of the newspaper I'm reading or to help someone else in the middle of helping me. They even looked surprised when I first arrived and asked for a menu. Such a shame because I've been looking forward to visiting for a while.. appearances are deceiving.

Love this place. Every time I go there's something new and delicious on the menu. Great drinks menu, excellent range, even for a vegetarian/gluten free/fussy eater like me. Yummy sweet treats and no-sugar treats too. Great staff and cosy atmosphere. Try the coconut! Its an actual coconut.

I recently went for breakfast in Hannah. When my meal arrived it looked amazing and I was excited to get stuck in. On my first cut of my egg I seen a small hair, I was willing to let this go until I seen a second. I quietly called the waitress over and showed her the hair. She offered a new breakfast and I accepted. I was then offered an apology that was said when briefly passing by. My breakfast was then brought out to me by I presume the manager, and it was said that I hope this will be the last we hear of it.. I was disgusted of the staffs approach to customer service. The arrogance to not even apologise not offer a gesture of a coffee ( while waiting) or breakfast at a discount, if not free was far from their thinking. The food did look good and in the end tasted nice. However the staff and management were Extremely disappointing. I would hope that this may have been an off day for them. However I do not plan to return.

Have been coming here since they opened. Perfect coffee, beautiful brekkies (French toast to die for), lovely staff and – bonus – great tunes!

If you're heading down to Chapel street, HANNAH is a must. Exceptional coffee with incredible latté art to match. The staff are friendly & the food selection is incomparable.
Mark Cowley
Another great breakfast , never disappointed , coffee is top notch and food is great.
Louise Russell
The best breakfast - fresh produce beautifully cooked. Brioche French Toast. Great atmosphere. Friendly, prompt service. Will definitely be back.
Sue McCracken
Always lovely. Always delightful. Food is great and so are the staff.

Stopped into Hannah's for my first decent latte of the day. Brilliant decor bustling crowd and a passion for coffee. The coffee scene has changed in Melbourne. With the population of cafes doubling in recent times you need to choose wisely. Hannah's is a wise choice.

Nice looking cafe, comfortable, acknowledgment when a customer walks in goes a long way. I'm going to assume this was an off day for Hannah cafe, and take my business elsewhere today, nice coffee....

In the light of the moon, a little backpacker lay in a cupboard. One Sunday morning the warm sun came up and POP, out of the cupboard came a tiny, very hungry Laura. On Monday she ate through one apple but she was still hungry. On Tuesday she ate through one slice of apple and rhubarb crumble but she was still hungry. On Wednesday she ate through one slice of coconut and citrus tart but she was still hungry. On Thursday she ate through one coconut and lime ball but she was still hungry. On Friday she ate through five oranges but she was still hungry. On Saturday she ate through one piece of chocolate cake, one pickle, one slice of Swiss cheese, one slice of salami, one lollipop, one piece of cherry pie, one sausage, one cupcake and one slice of slice of watermelon. That night she had a stomach ache! The next day was Sunday again. The backpacker ate through one nice leaf because that's all she could afford after all of her prior extravagant food purchases. After that she felt better. Now she wasn't hungry anymore - and she wasn't a little backpacker anymore. She was a big fat backpacker. She built herself a small house called an aeroplane around herself. She stayed inside it for more than two hours. Then she nibbled a hole in the aeroplane, pushed her way out and she was in Perth! Thank you for the delicious apple and rhubarb crumble, coconut and citrus tart, coconut and lime ball and coffee that you supplied me with over my last few days in Melbourne. They were really great, all three staff members I had dealings with were friendly and the kitchen staff all looked happy which is nice to see. Happiness is infectious. I came here on the recommendation of my room mate and I will continue the recommendation chain to anyone I know heading to St Kilda.

Love the food, people, ambience and the coffee is the best :)

I love this place!! The food is superb, service is perfect and the decor is style-o!

Absolutely average experience. This was my second time going because my first one was fairly pleasant, but I don’t think I’ll be going back soon. We were served coffee first which was okay but our food was so late that by the time it arrive we have already finished our coffees (the wait time for 2 eggs benedicts was around 40 minutes which is ridiculous) the food quality was also very mediocre, with having nothing special about the dish and stale ingredients which made all that wait 10 times worse.
Fusspot
Gone downhill - stale food

I went here a few days ago & ordered the “Mexican cornbread”. There was nothing Mexican about the cornbread - just some bland tasting yellow sponge thing that was soooo stale. I can’t recall the last time I was served with such stale food. I was starving and should have returned it but didn’t want to as was dining with a friend.

My friend got the mushroom breakfast and got a truckload of rocket and not a lot of mushrooms.

I came here a few years ago with previous management and really liked it however it appears there’s been a change in ownership since.

Stopped by recently for brunch and we had a good experience although nothing special. Staff were very friendly and the coffee was great.

I ordered the Smashed Peas which was ok, but I think I had a different idea of what the dish would be/taste like and I didn't really enjoy it. With that being said, I still would come back but would just order differently next time. I'd maybe go for something sweet - the pumpkin pancakes sound good.

Also, Hannah does seem to be a little on the cheaper side compared to other brunch places in the area.
The Wandering Reviewer
Came here last week and the hot chocolate was great. We ordered a burger and found it to be very filling so good portion size. The taste was excellent and the size of the burger was good. This place is quite lovely to sit and dine in. Saw two people with the laptops open and I assume working so it does have that comfortable feel about it. Found the menu to be pretty good with something for everyone. Staff were great. Our water on the table quickly and order taken not long after that. Dietaries catered for - just let the staff know. Takeaway available.
Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Pram/stroller accessible. Parking is okay.
Sita Pramana
The staff was super friendly. It seems trivial but most cafes don't refill / replace your water bottle unless you ask but they did. I ordered the mushrooms parmesan and the chicken chorizo toastie. I loved the mushrooms parmesan! I love mushrooms and cheese so it was perfect! The eggs were cooked perfectly as well. My partner has the chorizo toastie with chipotle sauce. It was really good as well. The combination of chipotle sauce, juicy chorizo, and crispy hashbrowns is what makes this dish a must try!
The Fussy Stomach
Random selection to try this venue. Great latte to start with. From there on just got better. Must be a talented chef behind the menu as I was thinking nothing special about the food until arrived. Burger was great tasting. Shhh room fish was really nice and the smash pees also presented lovely - not my taste, but still good. Ambiance is great and they never had an empty glass on the table. All around thumbs up. Definitely would visit again.

Great café to catch up with friends and enjoy a delicious meal. Really nice menu with lots of variety for all dietary types. The service was friendly and relaxed, but thoroughly efficient as well. The style and ambience of the café is comfortable, inviting and contemporary - the luscious greenery brings a cheeriness and freshness to the space. Coffee was excellent, food was also delicious. Looking forward to returning to try more from the menu!

Food menu has a good range, vibe of the place is cool; there’s a large communal table in the centre. Staff are friendly but $5 for a large coffee is a bit pricey
Delicious and innovative dishes and very friendly service. We landed here after a dreadful experience up the road at Neighbours Cafe; I very much wish we had found this place first! Highly recommended.

Been here many times for catch-ups in my placement. latte with funny face did surprise my supervisor LOL. I liked the French toast special due to its sweetness. Staff r friendly.

Have yet to have a bad experience at Hannah. The menu is well thought out and the service is always exceptional. If your looking for a breakfast that is not your basic eggs & bacon on toast then you will be pleasantly surprised.
Two Sheds
Came for lunch this time. This is a really lovely place. It’s got a lovely beautiful bright open air to it. It’s spacious with nice light on both sides. The plants around the place are nice too. I had the green salad today with chicken for lunch and it is a beauty. Plenty of spinach and rocket with peas, beans, feta and shaved veggies. The salad dressing is a cracker. There’s just the right measure of lip warming heat in it that lifts a dish that could easily be bland to something really quite tasty and interesting. Really good music playing here too, just at the right volume, and full marks on the vinyl option. The red headed server was utterly lovely here and right on the ball. Niceness is a virtue: she could teach many a server around town about how the job’s done well. Lovely long black here as well. Well in line with exacting Melbourne coffee standards. It’s an effortless 4 out of 5 today with potential to go up to 4.5 if the app permitted it. I’m doing them all and I think this is my favourite cafe/bistro in the area so far.

PS - I can’t believe I’m saying this but whoever designed the space outside the rest rooms here is a visionary. It’s striking and so beautifully and softly lit.

Eight days earlier

Here for a meeting. It’s a lovely sunny airy place that sensibly opens up to the breeze on the right days like today. Nicely laid out inside too. Locals and nearly workers were coming and going steadily. The staff were lovely and most efficient going by this experience. I was impressed by what I saw and will be back. I would have rated it a 3.5 has the option been available.

Love this place. Consistently good coffee, fab food, curated relaxed environment and efficient, relaxed vibe. One of my favorites. The decor is unique and the menu is simple and has something for everyone.

Had beans and an iced latte here this morning. Really enjoyed the beans, nicely balanced flavour and well cooked. Just slightly dry and tomato paste-y, but definitely not greatly so. Enjoyed the ham hock mixed through and also the herb garnish (tarragon?). It complimented the flavours well. Good portion size. Liked that it was served with a nice rye toast.

Coffee was a little weak for my liking. I also do not like my iced lattes frothed. This is a preference thing, but it doesn't seem to be standard at other cafes I attend.

Service was friendly and prompt.
Justin Cleland
Amazing combination of different flavours with great portion sizes. Laptop friendly seating area with a relaxed vibe. Friendly service and a relaxed atmosphere.
Raye Naguit
Good coffee, warm and cozy atmosphere and suler inventive menu. I had the cauliflower hash all those fancy as trimmings. Man, it eas good. My mates had the Japanese Garden which was absolutely stunning and the mixed mushroom bruschetta kinda dish. Was pretty good. Would definitely come back and try the weekly specials. They seemed to be the hit. Thanks for the great hospitality guys! :)

This is one of our favourite cafes in Melbourne, the service is alright but the food is always amazing. Great mix of food, unusual combinations but not too crazy, love it!
Kayla Stacey
Great coffee, beautiful cafe with a very laid back feel. Very kind and friendly staff! Will definitely be back. Must say I received the most unique cappuccino I have ever had
Jasmi
I am giving a 3 because I feel 3 is average, and I had an average Experience.

To eat - the green salad.

The green salad was okay, def not one of those meals where you be like "I would totally become a vegetarian now"

Over dressed, limp beans - the kind of meal where you could make it yourself.

In saying that, friendly, and good service.

I would be willing to give it another shot, and try something else.
Ellasyn
Sweet cafe with cool set out. Staff were friendly. My dish was tasty, although I only ordered the Bircher. Coffee was yum. I'd be keen to go back and try the other dishes.
Maddie Kingham
Came here today for lunch with partner. The cafe is very nice inside with lots of beautiful plants and greenery. We started with some coffee (I had a long black and Josh had a latte) and then we both ordered the Saint Beans to eat (I got the vege version and Josh had it with the smoked Ham Hock). It was absolutely delicious, with a very rich flavour to the sauce- I also tried a mouthful of the ham hock and it was really tasty as well. It came with two crunchy slices of toast, as well. I also got an Iced Coffee and Josh had the Iced Chocolate, which were pretty good but not wow.
Service was pretty hit and miss. The girl serving our table was great, but the guy who took our orders of Iced Coffee/Chocolate was kind of weird, it was hard to get the attention of staff at times and the girl at the till seemed to have little idea of what was going on- maybe she was new though. However, I enjoyed the food and would happily come back again.

Opening from 7 AM every single day, Hannah makes it easy for the early birds who want to sip coffee and enjoy a bite to eat on a Sunday morning. With an open seating plan, sleek timber furniture, white lanterns hanging from the roof, fresh plants and sweet vinyl playing in the background Hannah feels like you’ve walked into a family member’s living room and is really a place you could spend hours getting lost in a good book, doing some work on your laptop or chatting away with old friends over some decent coffee.
Krishna Brannigan
Quick delicious food, not a lot of parking nearby, but the 78 goes right past. Cauliflower hash was delicious so was the pumpkin and buffalo cheese polenta dish.

I am sorry to say I am disappointed. Last time I visited Hannah it was a fabulous little place, couldn't fault it. So I went there today to relive that experience and it was one of the poorest experiences I have had ( I eat at cafes every weekend) It was an effort to be served (the cafe was far from busy) One example was we watched our food sit on the servery while the waitress stood and chatted for quite some time. When we eventually got our food it was cold. I had the potato rosti, it tasted like cardboard, if I weren't so hungry I would have sent it back. Another example was that it took a long time to be given water or even a menu, we actually were just discussing if we should try the place down the road when we were asked if we were being looked after.
The coffee wasn't that great either, the flat white was too milky and lacked body.
I dislike leaving poor reviews as it takes a lot of blood, sweat and tears to run a cafe however this experience was too poor to let slide.

Jessica Kim Hintz
Nice cafe. Great coffee. However, Potato Roesti is inedible. Over powered by coconut oil. Potato is far to crunchy. I would suggest either changing the name and not advertise it as a 'roseti' or swap it out for some toast. Does not compliment the dish at all. Would come back for the coffee.
Erling Breaden
This has now become our go to cafe on Sunday morning. It's very popular, well located, good atmosphere and most important, great coffee!!! Service is generally fast and always friendly. You can reserve a table if you want. I usually have the potato roesti (crunchy and crisp as they should be), poached eggs, bacon and spinach. Delicious!
Jarrod Marrinon
Very very good coffee and a nice vibe. Medium prices mean that it's more of a once a week treat! Hot chocolate for the win also! Disabled toilet connected to the cafe next door is a plus too!
Jenna
I visit the lovely HANNAH a handful of times each week for my morning coffee fix, and consistent quality is what keeps me coming back. Being a 'regular', my rapport with the friendly owner and his attentive staff has only gotten stronger. I always feel valued and appreciated as a customer, but I feel welcomed as though a friend: greeted with a smile, my usual 'soy latte w/ 1' remembered and general chit-chat with the staff is genuine & sincere.
The ambience is relaxed and cool: the space is filled with lush ferns & greenery, floor-to-ceiling windows for the sunshine to spill in and records spinning in the background. The perfect space for study or work.
The range and quality of their coffee and food offerings has never fallen short for me - and their specials board is WOW. I just wish there were more pastries & bakes - because their house-made muffins are heaven! I don't even need to ask about the flavour, I know it'll be delicious regardless!
By far my favourite in the area for coffee & brunch.
Caroline Beaney
I had brunch at Hannah today. I decided to order the Coconut Pancakes with pink peppered berries and vanilla mascarpone. Highlight of the dish was definitely the delicious vanilla mascarpone.

A lot of my friends ordered items that contained toast and apparently it was quite difficult to cut up.

They also have $5 Mimosas. The orange juice used is very fresh but I wasn't a huge fan of it since I like other types of cocktails more.

Over all it's a nice place but wasn't wowed to the point where I would want to return to try the pancakes again.
Amber Wilkie
The food at Hannah is genuinely some of the best in the area. I've never not enjoyed a meal there. The coffee probably is the best in the area, along with Las Chikas. Hannah would get 5 stars from me, except the service is always slightly weird. There's just something odd about many of the staff there. They sort of stare off into space. Hard to describe.

But I keep going back coz the food and coffee are so good!
Cavendish
Great little spot with a chilled vibe. Been there a few times and it's been consistently great. The mixed mushrooms on rye and poached eggs (with added bacon) is super good. As are the $5 mimosas! Service and atmosphere are tops. Recommended.
Salty
With the extensive greenery and chilled music, I just love the relaxed atmosphere of this cafe. The coffee and food is great and the service is attentive and friendly.

Came here with friends 2 years ago, we loved the food! It was really delicious, different and a awesome experience. Coffee was beautiful and great too. The place looks really cool. My only critic about the place is the service wasn't as friendly as i prefer. But highly recommend the food.
Lanaa
Great find! Beautiful place with lots of space ( refreshing as most cafes are super compact ) and a very interesting menu! I mean that breakfast dish with 3 kinds of mushrooms and truffle oil? Yum!!!! Cant wait to go back and try the other dishes.
Hannah Stewart
Beautiful cafe, I might look biased due to the name but I loved this cafe. I ordered the pea and feta eggs and it was yum! The coffe was great they have a gread blend. The service however was a little slow at the beginning and at one stage we felt a little forgotten but it was revived later with promot service. I will be going back.
Manal Wish
The food was great, the atmosphere nice but overall I wasn't a fan of the service. And that drops the rating by a lot for me. It doesn't cost a thing to smile. The food however is fresh and tasty. My family had the eggs, sausage and rosti (rosti was a bit too crunchy and dry) but overall they liked their meals. Coffee was awesome! And I had some toast with sides of salmon avacado and scrambled eggs. We finished the breakfast date off by sharing the pancakes and getting icecream on them instead of the mascarpone- delicious!!
Tessie
Only my second visit here and had not been for well over a year.Came by myself as I just wanted to get out of the house and have a coffee and breakfast.
Had the brioche French toast with caramelised Apple, strawberries and gingerbread ice cream..positively delicious and a massive serve, would be surprised if anyone could finish it all!Bread was still nice and firm and didn't go soggy and soft.Only constructive criticism would be more strawberries and remove the skin from the apple pieces :)
Coffee is from Proud Mary Roasters and was made perfectly..just the right temperature (I am a stickler for a hot coffee) and well balanced flavors.
Staff were friendly and left me be reading the paper which was nice, didn't feel as though I was being rushed out the door.
Will definitely come back next time I want to whittle away a few hours.

Green Cafe

Another interesting place. There are quite a lot of plants in the cafe with a white round lampion style lighting. Surrounded by full windows for 2 walls which allow you to get lots of sunshine. Bet you can get a beautiful photos when its sunny. 👍

Ordered scotch fillet steak, the mushroom dish, potato roesti, and sweet French toast.
- Scotch Fillet Steak. They didnt ask you the level of rawness of the meat. So my friend end up with a medium well cooked meat which is quite hard.
- Potato Roesti. I like the roesti. Really crispy !
- Mushroom dish (the dish with a lot of mushrooms in it). Yeah, i love the truffle oil taste and smell. So i will say this is a delicious dish !
- Sweet French Toast. It was okay. Not too good not too bad. So-so.

The service was good and really had a great time here with friends.

Hope you guys have a wonderful meal here !Cheers ! 😁🎉

What a great place for breakfast!
Easy location to find and on street parking. Loved the coffee....read on to see our breakfast!

Hannah may be somewhat demure from the outside, with it's subtle signage and unassuming exterior, but step inside to a ferny-lush green reveal. Proper records spinning old beloved favourites make you feel instantly like a friend, only to be greeted as if you're one of the family by the casual yet savvy staff. There's always a story to hear or tell at Hannah and often a funny picture appears imprinted on your coffee, served with a giggle and smile. Even the regulars struggle with the menu here, as every item seems to be exactly what you're in the mood for and the weekend specials just make your decision that much harder. A coffee that always tastes exactly the way you like it is a sign of a great cafe, and this is a great cafe.

The coffee here is treated with great respect without descending into wanker territory and the food is made with love. I eat here quite often even though I live on the other side of town, as it's just a really special place. I love the communal table and the comfy vibe. You never have any trouble getting attention from the staff, even when they are flat out. I bring people here regularly and it's always a great experience. I adore the coconut pancakes (pink peppercorns in stewed fruit! divine!) and the brioche french toast (the specials are always a treat). When I am feeling like I need good nutrition rather than a carb-fest, the smoked trout salad is my go-to meal - zesty and trouty and greeny goodness. Also they do tea properly, which a lot of coffee-focused places neglect. I wish I lived closer!
Ihoward
Visited here over the weekend. Service was friendly. Started with a Chai latte which came out so hot that I couldn't drink it for the hour I was there and had to get it take away. Ordered the smashed peas when I realised there was no smashed avocado (my staple dish). Looked nice upon arrival but after 5 mouthfuls of peas I got over it. It lacked a wow factor and was almost flavourless. Would try this place again but wasn't impressed for my first time.

Great spot, comfy seats, papers to read. Staff friendly. Quick service and tasty food. Not an extensive menu but some nice choices and a specials board. Been twice now, will come again.

Had two T/ A coffees this morning and the ham hock and slaw toasted sandwich. The place was packed and we got our coffees in two minutes and the sand which in 10. Super tasty sand which, really friendly and accommodating staff will definitely be going back. Great stuff guys!

Had the steak... Wished the portion of the steak was bigger though! Coffee was nice and strong. Filling lunch overall! Interior was nice and spacious! Love the middle ginormous table!!

I've been here once before and the food was delicious. This morning however, what a let down. We arrived at 7am so were the first customers so you would think that cooking some eggs for 2 people wouldn't be hard. The potato rosti was cold and one of my poached eggs was missing the yolk ... and the food was slapped together on the plate ..

Don't bother.
Always Choose Pizza
Decent menu and friendly service. Ordered the steak with a side of eggs and while the steak was a bit over done and the eggs were very oily the potatoes were damn good. It's definitely a mothers hangout, the shrill sound of cackling post school drop-off filled the atmosphere
Snake00
YUMMY!! Had the mushroom toast and it was sensational. Didn't need to eat again for the rest of the day! Want to go back and work way through menu. Freshly squeezed juice and the coffee was great. Really liked all the plants in there, gave what could have been a fairly standard space a real sense of home.
Waited over an hour for our food to arrive.. The waitress didn't offer an apology, just told us that the chef had lost our order and he was making it now. My friend ordered the scrambled eggs with chorizo which was alright, I ordered the toastie with ham hock and slaw. The $15 toastie was sliding around the plate it was that oily.. I couldn't finish it and still have the taste of oil in my mouth. I get that something with cheese will be oily but this was just ridiculous. When we went up to pay again there was no apology nor offer of discount or even our coffees for no charge. Overpriced with rude staff.. Disappointing.

I love the food here; their sandwiches through to their breakfasts are memorable and often inventive, which makes eating here a pleasure. Their staff are also very nice, but I can't give them more Hannah a score of 4 because service can be haphazard, not often, but when it goes wrong it is special; I made the mistake of going to the bathroom half way through a plate of food (I was dining alone) - when I came back (and I only left for a minute or two), my plate was gone, the table cleared and a new customer sat where I was. I wasn't asked if I was done, I hadn't paid, and my bags were even still under the table. Bizarre. It wasn't even busy. What a lapse of common sense. I regard the whole thing in good humour, only it happened to my best mate on another occasion. Someone behind the counter is having a laugh.
World In A Bite
Sunday brunch - when I saw the dish I thought "man, it's small compared to the price" but when I tasted it, it's sooooo good! I'm satisfied 😋 Now this place is one of my favourites! The staffs were friendly and the decors are nice too :) ... I think this place is comparable to Tall timber and maybe even better than operator 25!
Hungry
This is by far my most favourite breakfast cafe. The food is amazing and there is lots to choose from. My suggestion, the eggs benedict. You won't be disappointed!
FR- Tastes
Had a catch up with a friend for brunch and had chipotle pepper and coriander scrambled eggs with chorizo, corn and avocado salsa was Average. Latte was nice and smooth. Would be nice if they sliced the top of the coconut, to allow you to consume the coconut meat after drinking the juice. Ambience was great, kinda difficult to locate the place as there wasn't much signs.. Staff were nice and friendly. Bathroom facilities was excellent. Clean and well kept. Menu a bit pricy.
Kate Dougherty
Visited Hannah for the first time for Sunday lunch. The staff were very friendly and did their best to accommodate us despite being hectically busy. I had especially made the trip down to St. Kilda to try the carrot cake pancakes special that they had running this weekend so I was slightly disappointed to discover that they'd already sold out. Having said that the smashed peas dish I ordered instead was really delicious so I cant complain. Peas, bacon and feta is definitely a winning combo.
Jem B
Excellent food, good coffee, service can be a little patchy but overall worth another visit. Menu includes Melbourne brunch classics as well as some interesting specials - highly recommend the French toast
Lauren Shaw
The weekly French toast specials are enough to draw me in each weekend. The vibe is always good and the coffee is worth the wait if it's busy.
Chelsey Ramos
Coffee was good. Kool vibe and fit out. Little bit of a wait on the food but not too bad. Potato rosti was dry and flat like a pancake, underwhelming. Smash peas on the other hand was yummy. Good put together dish. Menu had a lot a variety. Would like to come back and try the mushroom dish.
MH
waited over an hour for breakfast to come out.
avocado was off
waitress practically threw our meals at us because we had our dog Teddy sitting at the table - she exclaimed "I don't do dogs!"
after all that when we paid they have the nerve to ask for a tip!
this is our third time here and sorry to say will be our last.

Wonderful!. This cafe has become a firm favourite. Every aspect of this cafe is well considered, from the best tunes, to a stand out menu that always over delivers and great Proud Mary coffee and their own Callebaut hot chocolate. Staff are always welcoming, friendly and professional.
I've been enjoying working thru the menu with my family over the last few months and the Bircher with berry compote, Smashed peas with bacon, feta and poached eggs on rye and Coconut pancakes with the surprising, but don't knock it til you try to pink peppered berries are just perfection. The specials board should not be overlooked, as there are always great surprises on that too. Compliments to the chefs!! I hear the cakes here don't disappoint either, I just have never saved room for them - yet.

. I wouldn't normally mention toilets in a review, as I usually avoid them at all costs, however, as they are always a reflection on a venue, I'd have to say they are the best decorated and cleanest cafe toilets I've been to.

brioche french toast with fresh figs + strawberries, cinnamon sauce + pistachios. this weekend special hit the mark in every way! beautiful presentation! the little cup of cinnamon cream in the middle was so cute, and the figs looked so beautiful on the plate! the taste was not overly sweet, but the combination of the beautiful fresh brioche perfectly toasted + the fresh figs and strawberries was outstanding. the crunch of the pistachios was beautiful + the mint (a stroke of genius!) really lifted the dish. and then, for me, the thing to tie it all together: the cinnamon sauce! it was the consistency of a slightly thickened pouring cream, beautifully smooth and creamy, and the taste of the cinnamon was really evident. totally satisfying + enjoyable!

...The coconut pancakes were a must try for me. The enormous stack of thick and fluffy pancakes were presented superbly and tasted delicious!

I took a friend called Hannah here for the novelty value, with some trepidation about their Urbanspoon score. But how wrong I was! The place is modern and airy and the staff were efficient and friendly.

My friend got the Bircher muesli and said that every bite was a new discovery of ingredients and flavour. I got the deceptively small-looking beans with ham hock and was stuffed with delicious goodness after a solid 20minutes of eating effort. It was smoky, the ham fell apart in your mouth and the sauce was surprising light while retaining its flavour.

What's the buzz?. Tried Hannah this weekend for a different fair. Coffee wasn't great, either the group handle was dirty or what but long black tasted burned and watery, partner's (and seemed like other patrons') milky coffees were half froth. That said the coconut pancakes came as a big serve enough to feed two (and I was hungry after a morning run), a bit dry but tasty, maybe a bit too expensive for pancakes though. That said, lucky they let me take the leftovers home. Crushed peas with bacon missed the touch of mint but were still nice. Menu is probably not quite to my palette but whatever they're doing must be pleasing the crowds as they were packed.

Amazing food but questional staff. The food was really amazing on a hung over Sunday. I got the chorizo scrambled eggs, really yummy. Definitely agree with another reviewer in that the blond waitress was really rude. After we declined being seated at the shared table, it was all downhill from there. She was throwing us nasty looks and made it feel like anything we asked for was a pain for her to do, she threw off the whole rest of the experience for us. Other than that the other staff were amazing, and they have a great selection of magazines to read while you're waiting for your food.

First time there, and loved it. I had the mushrooms on toast, and my partner the pea smash - amazing! Good sized portions and reasonably priced. Coffee was great too. I could have sat there all morning!

Somethings wierd about this place. Food was good but overall experience was bizarre and I won't be back
Nutritionistfooddiary
Coffee ok but nothing special. Dropped past here for a coffee as it looked pretty funky inside. The coffee was ok but nothing special and based on this I don't think I would go back in a hurry.

This place is a little oasis. Staff were attentive and the coffee was delicious. Food was also great, we had scrambled eggs and the bacon sandwich - both were tasty. My only complaint is that the food is a tad overpriced. However, I will come again if not just to sit amongst the beautiful greenery.

Cute cafe. Nice people and coffee but I find the menu a little limited.

What a fantastic vibe this place has! The staff are friendly and sincere as they go about giving great service in a relaxed professional manner. I loved the mushroom dish so much I was back for more the next day - perfectly complimented by great coffee on each occasion! Owner, Jason, has an enviable record collection, and his lazy tunes spill out across the ferns onto the abundant reading material completing a pretty perfect way to start a day! Whoever Hannah might be, she's a new friend of mine!

Wow. We normally don't like eating brekkie in balaclava. Las chicas is always full, people always queue up for batch, so when we got a seat at Hannah we were pleasantly surprised. Coffees were nice and came out promptly. But after 30 minutes we were told our breakfasts had been burnt. We then waited a further hour. When our food still had not arrived we decided to leave. No option really. Worst experience ever. If my blood sugar had been any lower I think my head would have exploded. Lol

Saint beans are very tasty and enjoyable, as was my custom order of scrambled eggs with sausages - simple but lots of flavour. Prices seem a little high though.

Way over priced average Se.... Way over priced average
Service is a farce
When we arrived they had sold out of most of the menu we were only in formed once our minds were made up .
The old silver fox waiter is below par
Lady Nights
Good service. The only redeeming feature was the waitress. The food on the other hand was really really average. Over cooked eggs. Dry toast. Burnt potato. Just all round really really average food. Never again.

Lovely cafe in balaclava. Awesome hot chocolates, delicious homemade muffins and lots of yummy breakfast/brunch options. On top of all this the staff are lovely! i love coming here at least once a week.

Hannah review- went there today again.. Hannah is a great restaurant. I mean GREAT. Easy. Tasteful, fresh, friendly and affordable. Hannah makes you feel - cool. Staff made us feel comfortable. We enjoyed ourselves at twice. Love and kisses.

Another beautiful cafe to check on when you get to Balaclava. Good coffee and waiting staffs are really accommodating. Recommended

I will be back. Great range of menu options, great coffee, great decor, gorgeous sunlight filtering in, great music, friendly staff on the ball. I tried a bite of my husband's steak sandwich which was delish. I had the potato rosti with poached eggs, which was great...then I spied a very delish looking cherry pie which I will have to come back for another day!

Awesome. This is a good alternative for breakkie if you wanna try something different from those cafes near Balaclava station, go try Hannah. Coffee from Proud Marry makes my day. Food is good. Service is friendly. Recommended for locals.
Tommy
Just discovered this gem. Food and coffee superb. Apparent there is not a high priority on service with staff seeming inexperienced, but happy to overlook this for another serve of the delicious mushrooms with truffle oil!

Loved Hannah. I don't get the low review rate...
Hannah's set up is lovely. sweet ambiance and roomy...
Service was attentive as it should be.
Food of eggs , toast and spinach sounds simple but after having this at a few local places, Hannah's was the best. Really!
My friend's salad of mixed greens etc. looked superb and was a generous serve.
Probably need some better choices of sweets but that's their choice.
Will surely be back.

I love this place, the food is always good and the coffee is often good except when the ginger guy is working (the blond girl makes a great coffee)

Was recomemended here by my air b&b host. So glad the Bircher is top notch and the service and ambience is perfect. The tinted windows give it a real set back from the street feel. I have to admit I wouldn't have come of the street on the out view. The reason to write this revue. Looking forward to tomorrow's choice off a very interesting menue.

Loved it. Went to check out Hannah today after hearing about it from a few people. It was really nice to be able to enjoy friendly service and super tasting, fresh and vibrant food. I had the smoked trout/salad dish and absolutely loved it!

Dropped into Hannah after passing it on many occasions. What a great place- the place and the staff are very welcoming. Such a change from some of the pretentiousness other places have. Menu was different with many creative choices causing angst with decision making but a must for a revisit! Scrambled eggs, haloumi and chorizo was superb- fresh and yumm! Coffee also good - will be back!!!
That Girl
Hannah has a lovely interior and the staff were really nice and helpful. It doesn't stack up to other places on Carlisle St or Windsor end of Chapel. The coffee was average. And while the food sounded great on the menu, everyone was a bit disappointed.

I had the 'Saint beans', which came with 2 slices of sourdough. It was overwhelmingly salty and the consistency wasn't runny enough to be complimened by bread (so just had the pot of beans), but the ham hock inside the bean mix was nice :) Im not making plans to rush back.

Lovely coffee - Best in the area. Staff can be a little indifferent; the girl on the coffee machine is ace though, she always makes time to make you feel welcome. They really could do with some alternatives for take away food. If you don't fancy a yo-yo, you're hard pressed for other options.

She's starting to grow on me. Been there 3 of 4 times now. Slow start but I'm starting to warm to her. staff are hit and miss. Some are very warm and seem like they want to be there. One or two others are average and don't really suit the place. Food is slightly on the expensive side, but quality is not too bad. Servings aren't huge either. Seems like they've like they've gone for that simplistic look. NO BIG BREAKFAST! You have to add everything to the bacon and eggs. Then the price skyrockets. Not a place that I'm Prepared to pay $25 for breaky. Also, found it strange that no opening hours on display anywhere. Overall, worth having a look at. Not in the same league as las chicas, just yet.
Fish
It's a bright and welcoming space that does it well. Coffee was spot on (Proud Mary) and the relaxed vibe is just what you want. The communal table is great. Food wise the breaky menu is extensive. Bircher and Porridge are both on the menu as are some good egg options.

Adequate. Surprised at the negativity, sure there is room for improvement but its not terrible.

Been twice now - good service and tasty meals.

Agree that the portion sizes are a bit small, especially the sides which come in bite sized ramekins. And the coffee is expensive which is surprising when you have better coffee around the corner (Monk Bodhi & Common Ground) for cheaper.

Overall Hannah is fine and I'd go back again.

Give it a go!. A solid neighborhood cafe with lovely fitout, attentive staff and tasty food in addition to the essential caffeine hit. I don't understand the massive negativity in some of the reviews here to be honest. It's a new place, which means inevitable moments of finding its feet and ironing out issues (none of which I've experienced there), but it deserves better than what I can only assume are vindictive or competitive 'reviewers' - go have a meal there and make up your own mind. IMO, the portions are bigger than they need to be, the food is inventive and adventurous, and the prices standard for good cafes these days. Love the vinyl too!
Dylan
Great coffee, great fitout. Cant wait to try their brekky. Welcome to the neighborhood Hannah.
Stevie G
Avoid. Over priced. Food was over cooked..burnt rostis, sour spinach. Green tea was awful and staff didn't really care

Hannah SUX. This crap joint REALLY SUX!
1. It's over-staffed with inattentive uni students who don't really know what they're doing,
2. The portion sizes are ridiculously small for the prices,
3. The coffee cups are so tiny you wonder if you have to squeeze the glass to get more before blowing another 5 bucks, and
4. The Barista has no understanding of customer relations whatsoever. God help you if you question him. He has a shocking attitude with no aptitude for the craft. (He actually tried to convince me that a latte with a sprinkle of chocolate on it was a cappuccino.)
Trust me, give Hannah a wide birth and she'll sink before she's left port. 1/10 and that's just for the non-decor.

Pretty good.... The menu could do with a little bit of broadening (my tastes are simple, so maybe I'm in the minority here?), but in saying that, my scrambled eggs with chorizo was very good. The chai and the hot chocolate left a little to be desired, but seeing as this is walking distance from home, we'll be back at some point!
Beth
Don't take my plate!. Had brekkie at Hannah this morning - everything was going great: chirpy staff, solid coffee, perfectly poached eggs and good avo to egg ratio. Then...just as I put the last fork-full of egg in my mouth - whip! - the plate was gone! Nothing worse than chowing down on your last mouthful of eggs, without a napkin, while your brekkie buddy still finishes their plate next to you.

Perhaps too many staff on duty and too eager to serve?! Hold the plate Hannah and you'l be an awesome local!
Kitkat
Ergh. Wow, what a let down. I went here starving the other weekend with two friends. I probably should have grabbed a sandwich on the way because the serving sizes were that pathetic.
We asked for a few minor changes to each of our meal, nothing outrageous or that would be too hard to accomodate (no corriander, no chorizo, etc). This clearly pissed off the waiter who sternly told me that I was unable to have a small serve of relish on the side. Like what?! After not receiving my coffee that I ordered, our food finally arrived 25 minutes later. With all of our requests ignored. And it seemed as though they were going for the whole quality over quantity with their portion sizes.
Food was tasty. Coffee when I finally got it was okay. However, I would suggest the staff lose their attitudes and increase the sizes.

Love the snow pea salad. If you want a healthy salad that packs punch and flavour you cannot go past the snow pea salad. The goat's cheese and walnuts are a marriage made in heaven, throw in the delicious slighty sweet vinaigrette and you're guaranteed to have your tastebuds explode. My other favourite dish is the beans with fetta. The ham hock and rosemary rocks my world. Hannah, you make seemingly simple food come to life with clever twists and incredible produce. Whatever you're doing, keep doing it.
