I come all the way from Edithvale. The food is great. The coffee expensive. I love the layout and the vibe. Easy parking round the back. I saw Serge talking to some bloke the other day about changing the seating etc. Please don't. We love it as it is.

The new chef has taken this place to the top of cafes in St Kilda. Excellent coffee and the food is a brilliant combination of both modern and traditional European specialties. Highly recommended.

Garage is one of my favourite local spots to grab a morning coffee. Staff are friendly, and the cabinet food always looks so appetizing! They have one of the best chocolate berry muffins ever, its so fresh and filled with chocolate bits.
I've had a sit down breakfast at Garage on one occasion and really enjoyed it. I ordered the Avocado Mash which was super fresh and I liked how it was served on cornbread.
They have a great menu with all of the basic brunch items - definitely worth a visit.
Apple Cider Eggs Benedict on a soft brioche bread.
With so much flavour on one plate; safe to say i was in good heaven! Great flavours which compliment and work so well together! Definitely a great hidden gem!

We come here a lot. I think this is one of the strongest and best coffees in St.Kilda, it’s on the expensive side but well worth it. Great friendly staff only make it better who after a while will remember your name. Get there before 8am most days and their muffins are still warm.
Great place to grab a coffee and lunch. I ha e been going to Garage since moving to Balaclava and have found the coffee to be the best around. Staff are really friendly and the menu is simple but offers good quality food. Highly recommend!
Cute little cafe... visited with friends for lunch. Staff were super polite. Wasn’t a whole lot on the menu for lunch but the three of us all ate until our plates were completely clear... and that’s a good sign!!!

Great coffee with a chilled and comfortable ambiance. I got a raspberry, passion fruit and coconut muffin with my coffee and it was delicious. I will definitely come back for another coffee.
My favourite coffee in Melbourne and a lovely shop fit out too. For two people I recommend splitting the eggs Benny and the green salad as they compliment each other very nicely.
Best coffee around - love the muffins and the service, can be busy around 9am with the parents from the school. Definitely try the peanut butter protein balls !!
Pretty quick in and out visit for a coffee but what I experienced here was very impressive. This is a truly lovely spot on a sunny afternoon. I loved the front of the place, I loved the inside. The decor is cute and thoughtful. The creeper over the west facing window is near genius in the afternoon. The dappled sunlight is gorgeous in the front window and it’s a lovely spot to sit. The service here was excellent. Young, super polite servers who really know their stuff. I had a lovely cool coffee that really worked. It was richly creamy with a beautiful texture. A very impressive first visit and I’ll be back for food soon.
Had lunch here, sat outside with the doggie. Had a green salad with poached egg, the salad was nice, but was a bit too much of the same. Same for the potato salad, just could’ve had a bit more variety in flavour in it. Service was good.
I had the French toast, was so yummy. Beautiful flavours and fresh ingredients. Huge serving, good value. Great coffee. Very friendly staff. Will go back for sure.
Cute little cafe ended away down the quiet end of chapel st with very friendly staff. Coffee was and omg the sweet potato fritters were so yummy.

Came here this morning for brunch with my partner after seeing a great review from a fellow Zomato reviewer. The cafe has a really nice style, and while it's only small definitely has some decent seating and nice furnishings. It was jam packed when we arrived but the gave us some stools to sit on while we waited for a table and we got some coffees while we waited, as well. The coffees were okay but not the best I've had.
The service, however, was fantastic!
We shortly were given seats at a share table, and the waitress even carried over our coffees for us.
Once seated, Josh ordered a Chocolate Milkshake and the Moroccan Sandwich and I ordered an iced coffee and the BELTA. The iced coffee was incredible, and beautifully presented with ice cream on top, garnished with chocolate powder and coffee beans.
The sandwiches were huge and absolutely delicious! The egg was perfectly cooked in my BELTA and the yolk oozed out when I cut it- a big thumbs up!
We also got some takeaway coffees to finish with.
Garage Espresso certainly lived up to my expectations and I'll definitely be back!
Great coffee, the crew are friendly. The food is great- one of the best egg and bacon rolls I've had! If your looking for a cafe around Carlisle st then this is certainly high on my list!
A massive shout out to the 2 waitresses who served us this morning, your service was outstanding. Such a sweet little cafe with a real homey vibe and that menu! Fantastic, I honestly didn't know what to order as there were some real great options to choose from. My partner and I both ordered the Royale with NZ smoked salmon and it was delicious. Everything about the dish was great and that brioche bread! So incredibly good. If only I wasn't as full as I was as I would of ordered one of the cakes on display, there were so many to choose from that all looked yummy. The coffee's were equally as good too and I recommend a visit here.

Love this place for coffee - almond milk coffees are always good but are a bit pricey as I know I can get the same thing closer to me for less (and only venture here if it's closed!). I decided to have brekkie here once when I saw that there is housemade paleo bread on the menu so I ended up ordering poached eggs + paleo toast + smoked salmon. My toast was unfortunately singed and bordering on burnt (even for me, who likes it a little darker than normal) and I was taken a back by how the eggs were simply just 'plopped' on the plate (with some of the cooking water) - not seasoned nor decorated with a herb etc. It wasn't very aesthetically pleasing. I know the dish was/is simple but I thought more effort could have gone into it for something I was paying >$10 for. I'm sure other dishes (which I will try in the future) are tasty as the place is often buzzing and there must be a reason why.
P.s. protein/raw bliss balls are yum!
13/7/17- came here for brekkie today and had the breakfast special- omelette with tomato, spinach, mushrooms and goats feta which was delish! I had it with paleo toast and a side of avocado (which was enough for 2-> huge side) and thoroughly enjoyed it. Loved the taste, presentation and flavour combos.
Best coffee in Melbourne. They have nailed the almond milk coffees! Haven't had a better almond milk coffee. The only negative is that it's rather pricey but I only go for coffee so I can handle it. Decor is lovely and the owners and staff are awesome.
Food is just excellent - they manage to maintain a menu that is different from the average cafe AND delivers in terms of quality.

Probably the best coffee in this area (and one of the only ones I know that makes a good coconut latte). The owner and his son lovingly serve up breakfast and coffee all morning. My only gripe? I wish it was bigger so I never had to wait.
Nothing better then pulling up a table in the sunshine at garage espresso! The open space interior is delightful and the display is always stocked with delicious baked good. Staff are friendly, attentive but not invasive! Food and coffee are always delicious, top spot all round :)
Best eggs Bene I have ever had! The bread was fantastic, the ham was delightful and it was served very quick. Also tried one of the green juices (alkaline), did need a tad more of a sweetner as the kale overpowered. Will be back!!
Amazing spot, great friendly staff. Very good range of breakfast and lunch options (smashed avo and the scrambled eggs with chorizo and dukkah are my favourites. Loved the Reuben sandwich, but unfortunately that's been taken off the menu!) excellent coffee as well!
The coffee is consistently good and the service is great ! This is a solid reliable choice for a quick brekkie before work or a lazy weekend meal over the papers. Well worth a stop!
I've had about 50 coffees from this place in the past 2 months, everyone of them has been consistently amazing, best coffee I've ever had and I'm normally picky. Food and service are great! Try the Avo smash with goats cheese and chilli, the bread they use is delicious.
Love this place. Fresh, simple, flavoursome goodness. Their avo mash is great, bacon perfect, juices great. Service like family. Every single time, they get it right.

What was tasty: the artisan paleo bread that came with my omelette. I had that just by itself.
What I would recommend : the portion sizes are crazy! We ordered one portion of the scrambled eggs with chorizo and feta, served with regular toast (on special) and one portion of the omelette with leek, pancetta, peas served on artisan pales bread and boy, did we struggle to finish it. So yeah, share. Please. To be kind to your stomach.
What didn't blow me away: the taste of the food (apart from the paleo bread) was nothing exceptional. The chorizo was not served very generously however the eggs were.
All in all: I will visit again for the coffee and maybe to try the sweet options for breakfast though.

Get in early on a weekend for the best French toast (ADD BACON!) in town. Great coffee and good smoothies as well. Service appeared inconsistent on 3 separate visits however the food was worth it.
Love this place! Much quieter than other similar brunch spots which makes a nice change. Small enough that it feels cosy, large enough that you still have space! Food is delicious and juices are to die for. Staff do what needs to be done but don't intrude on you. Will keep coming back to this place!
Came here in a Saturday morning as was reputed to have Melbourne's best coffee. Coffee was good and oats with poached pear & rhubarb I had wasn't too bad, however could use more poached pear.
Staff were friendly and decor was nice (what you'd expect from an inner city cafe in Melbourne).
Place was pretty busy so get in early to get a seat (inside seats about 10-15 people).
Quickly becoming my regular spot. Awesome exposed brick space that serves breakfast food really well. Happy to cater for our parties food intolerances. Uncluttered and unpretentious. Happy staff and great coffee what more could you want/need.
Love the selection of gluten free, paleo dishes. Chef knows how to work the flavours together -- had the wheat free Bircher and it came with an amazing lemon curd- style yoghurt. Delicious. Coffee was also excellent.
This place makes a real effort for clean good food with a special effort for gluten-free food options. Costs a bit more as a result but their servings are generous.
The front counter goodies are pretty damn moutwatering, better than the bakeries on Carlisle St, if you want a coffee and a sweet something to go.
Soy chai latte is in a pot ($7 for two cups' worth).
Bircher is delicious with passionfruit curd.
Omelette is really large, could feed two.
Nice clean aesthetic, staff are a bit inexperienced.

Comfy Cafe. I've been visiting this cafe probably a dozen times in the last few months. The menu is a pretty standard breakfast but done very well. Food tastes great and the staff have always been very friendly and easy to chat to from my point of view.
I also enjoy coming to this place for the coconut milk latte. I'm not a great fan of soy or almond milk in coffee so the coconut milk latte is really nice.
Good service and the food is excpetional. They sell a range of relishes which are fantastic.
Good food but u pay for it!. Had the corn fritters and pancake - both were delicious as well as the soy lattes we ordered.
Bit pricey ($21) per person so not somewhere we'd be frequenting.

Trifecta (or should I say quadrella). Have been here several times now, this place has it all....fantastic food, the best coffee in the precinct and great service. And now with the inclusion of potentially the best looking young man in Melbourne to the staff, plenty to look at!! Actually even without the eye-candy the aspect is wonderful- the location is light and fresh flower-filled and decorated to trendy perfection. On the weekend it can be a little bit of a wait as the whose-who of Melbourne's cafe set take their place in the cafe of the moment.

Amazing!. Everything was so good! Had the best capachino I've had in a LONG time! Also tried a few of their cakes and they were delicious! The staff were also really nice to talk to. We sat outside on their bench, and it was so nice in the sunshine! I would highly recommend trying out Garage Espresso!
I know when I walk in and see beautiful salt gorgeous sugar and the most beautiful teaspoon are the first things we see we are in good hands! Everything else matched that. Fabulous breakfast salad, beautiful eggs excellent coffee ... We will definately go back!

Try the Eggs Benedict!. The coffee, black with honey, was very good: not burnt like some but the eggs benedict was the best I've had in a long time. The apple cider vinegar used in the sauce was adding a fruity piquancy that nicely cut the richness of the sauce. The eggs were perfectly poached, jellied whites and creamy yolks, the ham was good quality and the challah bread's yeasty sweetness set a lovely contrast to the savoury toppings.
The atmosphere was welcoming and friendly, and the noise level wasn't too loud.
Definitely will revisit.
Our favorite cafe in Melbourne. We actually drive to get here having deserted our local haunt in Acland St. Everything we ever order is an absolutely delicious treat and the staff are as caring as the boss. Stylish and buzzy atmosphere. Their slogan is Made With Love. Sure is!
Best coffee in Balaclava.. Every time! What a great little cafe, they only use top quality produce which makes such a difference. I won't go anywhere else now...love it!

Best Coffee in St Kilda. I eagerly waited for Garage Espresso to open as my previous local - Leroy's was serving up bad coffee after bad coffee together with a good dose of bad attitude. The interior of GE is a fabulous mix of industrial meets provincial, the takeaway food and deli items are mouth watering and the coffee is exceptional. They support the local school and serve up a morning dose of dry wit - great way to start the day. It's my favourite!
