Review Little Peddler - St Kilda

Cute little Malaysian restaurant in St Kilda. Surprisingly to find sarawak laksa here which taste great. Char Kuey Teow taste good as well with smokey flavoured. Popcorn chicken is crispy. Cute interior design.

Really cute little restaurant, the food was delicious and authentic! Lovely staff and great service too :) They even gave us free peanut biscuits after the meal! Will definitely come back.

So lucky that I live around the corner from this place. We had a lovely chat with the friendly owner after dinner and had a gorgeous vegan curry, prawn beef noodle dish and wontons for a reasonable price - we will be back!

Lovely staff and owners, awesome beats playing in the background, good authentic Malay & Vietnamese food at a good price! The staff are super accommodating. I asked for extra veg in my dish and when I asked for chili they got me chili oil instead of using sriracha so the taste of the dish wasn’t affected which I was stoked with. I highly recommend trying it for some hawker/street style food. My only wish is for a few more vegan options such as a vegan Vietnamese salad or pho so there are some lighter meal options for veg/vegan. But other than that, can’t fault this place 😊

Lovely warm atmosphere. Amazing owners and staff who make you feel so comfortable and the best part is the food. Best dumplings in Melbourne. Sarawak laksa just like the one who'd get in Malaysia and must try the char kueh tiaw. All so good.

So delicious. Get the CKT. It's one of the best I've had. So tasty.

Excellent Restaurant. Ordered some food yesterday during stage 4 lockdown. The staff was super friendly, food was very delicious, seemed authentic (not the standard stuff you get at other Malaysian Restaurants), portions were generous and came with rice without extra charge!!! Finally a restaurant decent enough to provide some rice with their meals without charging the customer horrendous amounts for this - very commendable. All in all, extremely positive experience and we will definitely come back here.

Been here twice now. I'm impressed with the food. I'm really impressed with the serving size of the rice dish my partner ordered. I like the place. I'll be back for more. Simple.

very good tunes , good food ( i'm waiting to drink some fresh beers with it ) :) , and nice people. i recommend that it should change the menu every 2, 3 months it will be awesome and good concept , the cause of the shortness of the menu :)

What a fun place to have delicious food. Dumplings and chicken wings ...yum. A relaxed small (very small) restaurant, great staff too. Will be back soon to spice it up....

My happy place. Sarawakian soul food served to perfection in a really relaxed environment by some of the best people I've met in this town.

Absolutely delicious. Catered to all our dietary needs, and there were a few. Yummiest dumplings char Kay Teo ever and they even chased us down the street thinking we accidentally left them too much money when we were just leaving a tip. Definitely going to be a regular

It's small with a big impact... the food is delicious and the service is fab. The portions are huge and the tables are cosy...

Saw Little Peddler listed on UberEats, but as it is just down the road thought I should try the eat-in service for a quick, early dinner. Amazingly delicious food. "Who would have known that roti could be that flakey, or the greens so deliciously healthy. Can't wait to try the WHOLE menu - the Laksa is next. But could I suggest a heater for the cold nights?
Katie Westcott
Stumbled upon you guys last night and it was the best experience - great staff/location/food. Thanks!

I’m often in Laksa withdrawal! Little place with a big heart

Love this little local, menu is very simple with the Malaysian dishes the best I’ve tasted. Super friendly owners and vibe.

My friend and I went for a local dinner and found this little gem (was recommended by another friend). We both ordered the laksa which had chicken, prawn and tofu and veg. So yummy. Didn’t leave you feeling heavy. The staff were super sweet and friendly and checked in that the laksa chilli level was just right for us. Will definitely make it one of my locals.

Little Peddler seems to have a cult following amongst locals and people outside of Balaclava. In the one week I told people I was planning date night here, four of them went on to tell me how good it is.
It is literally a hole in wall restaurant on Chapel st
We decided to go on Friday night. I was worried about getting a table, but got a seat without a hassle.
We ordered the popcorn chicken which was really tasty and fresh. I ordered the Hokkien Mee with a Tiger Beer to wash it down. The food was served quickly and was very good. The service was excellent and the overall vibe in the place is laid back with the staff seeming to know all their customers. Overall two mains, drinks and nibbles cost 60$,
A hidden gem in Balaclava that I will be returning to regularly.

Ordered with ubereats. Burnt dumplings, 2 prawns in char kuey teow is not enough reason to call this dish seafood. Puffed chicken pieces were tough. All food was cold. So not worth $60 we paid. Never again.

Go for the laksa, a coconut milk free version. This one is aromatic and flavourful with delicious extras. Also recommend sticky wings and bbh

Absolutely delicious food and splendid service!! The staff were all so lovely and welcoming and attentive. Very good at catering to vegan diets and all meals are made from scratch from fresh ingredients. Try the spring rolls and the vego hokkien noodle dish!
Phil Lesh
What a great find! The dumplings are amazing, the BBH is amazing, the Laksa is amazing but what is best is the Bak Kut Teh. This is seriously great! Such great people and great food. I will be coming back here often!

Truly Melbourne's best kept secret. My happy place. Have returned at least 20 times this year because the atmosphere, service, price and food offerings are sublime. Very accommodating to a vegan diet... the Tofu Curry and Tofu Fried Rice are absolutely delicious! Treat yo'self!

Such a cool little place with flavoursome dishes. Service is great food is great, drinks are great, a simple and nice experience. A cosy and buzzing atmosphere. Will be a regular.

Ordered via deliveroo. Spring rolls were average and laksa was disappointing; very small size, two sad prawns and two very, very small pieces of chicken. Wouldn't order again.
Dchau
Chee is such a legend, he is welcoming and funny. It has a cosy atmosphere and the food is seriously yum. We had the pork & chives dumplings, chicken wings and hokkien mee - all of which were amazing. Will definitely go back.

Little Peddler literally screamed out my name when I first saw her. A small hole-in-the-wall type restaurant dishing up Asian delights. The sign is two little Asian babies with a bike, like c’mon, as if I wasn’t going to be excited before I even glanced at the menu. Knowing I was going there next I went home and read the menu on Zomato at least 10 times. I knew exactly what I wanted before I even stepped a foot inside.

Absolutely delicious!! Flavourful, YUM yum! I will go back again and again and again. Reasonably priced too! Food is awesome. Those green dumplings blow my mind. And the tofu they use has magical properties.
We've been here four times in the past eight weeks - we love it. Very friendly service, and really tasty food. The popcorn chicken is one of our favourites. The Char Kuai Tiao is also amazing.
Andrew Ball
Best Cha Kuai Tiao and chicken Hokien Mee in Melbourne! One of our favourite places!! The popcorn chicken is amazing too. And very friendly staff.
Rebecca
This place started off brilliantly, but has just got new owners and is totally different, for the worse. The menu you see here isn't what you get. It's more Chinese food than Malaysian. Basically it isn't Little Peddler anymore. It was a good thing that has gone bad. Won't be going back. So disappointing. It was the best Roti, Golden Buns and spices in town! They should have kept the original chefs.

Had a disappointing dinner here tonight with my partner. This was our first experience eating at Little Peddler.

The restaurant's fit out is really cool and clever, and the atmosphere/ambiance felt good too - I've walked past the place a couple of times.. It's got that cool grungy Melbourne/Asian street food vibe thing going on, which I love and so I was super keen to come back and give these guys a go. The quality of food and the service was really disappointing. I hope for their sake we just caught them on a bad night. We ordered the Hokkien Mee and the mixed dozen dumplings, but were told there was only one of the four dumpling options available that night. Fair enough we thought, it was the crab and prawn option, which sounded good so we just ordered those.. We were a bit shocked when bright red dumplings were put in front of us a few minutes later.. The dumpling wrappers were tough and leathery, the filling was bland and on were no where near as warm inside as they probably should have been...

After a couple of fork loads of the Hokkien Mee, we started questioning why there were prawns and what tasted like scallops in our dish.. After cross checking what was in front of us with the menu, we realised that we had been cooked up and served the wrong dish! We think we were served up their Char Kueh Tiaw, which was reasonably tasty (though they were still thick egg noodles?!?)

We told our waitress about the mix up, and she apologised, and that it was their second night.. Anyway.. Paid the full bill, walked back home and here I am back on the couch full of regret and a strange, disappointing meal from Little Peddler.

Really cool looking little place with a great vibe and good service. We ordered a few things to share and I personally loved the golden buns they were delicious however the rest of what we ordered was pretty average. Nothing was terrible, but with that many places around serving the same type of thing it didn't really compare well.

Little peddler has quickly turned into my latest obsession- that popcorn chicken is to die for! Cute little restaurant, great vibes, great staff. I'm dragging everyone here to try!

Great space, amazing atmosphere. Such a generous serve of pho, the broth is incredible, the wings are perfect with a bit of kick and definitely try the
Hainanese Roast Chicken & Rice.
Do yourself a favor head down on their crab night, jump on their Facebook page for more details. The Garlic and Pepper Crab is the best pick!

Dined here last week and was really impressed. It's such an amazing looking space - tiny but oozing cool vibes. Having lived in Malaysia for 2 years when I was younger, I was really excited to see things like Satay Sticks, Chicken Rice & Char Kway Teow on the menu (even though I'm a vegetarian now it made me super nostalgic for when I was living there, eating those things). Obviously I can't speak on the taste of these dishes, however my friends ordered the Chicken Rice & Char Kway Teow and loved it. I had the Roti Canai with Peanut Sauce (would love to see the classic watery curry sauce to really sop it all up with) followed by the Mamak Mee Goreng. It was all so delicious - the noodles in particular were fresh, and so flavoursome. Extra points for stocking the drink 100 Plus. I will definitely be bringing my parents to this place next time they are in town for a walk down memory lane :)

Great little spot for a quick and relaxed bite! Super tiny, but great service and delicious food! Menu is small, but manages to cover most tastes, including my mother who is extremely picky!

I love this new little restaurant. The owner oozes passion and enthusiasm and it really shows in the food. Best spring rolls I've had in Melbourne!
Love2Eat
Great new little place with cool vibe not unlike Hanoi Hannah, albeit a bit cosier. The popcorn chicken was nice n tender and topped with fragrant curry leaves with two dipping sauces on the side. The curry puffs a generous size and fresh, slightly greasy but nothing a serviette squish won't fix. Char koay teow was super tasty with big prawns, chives, and a charry edge! The Hainanese chicken rice was nice, rice was fragrant and fluffy, though could have done with a couple more pieces of chicken with the $15 price tag. Service was awesome and swift! Will definitely be back again!

Fantastic! Great service and quick prep. We think the Laksa is amazing and have had it 3 times already. Nice to see a new place opening in Balaclava- great use of the space! Great work guys.

I like this place! Yes it's small but it's intimate and got a cool vibe. The foods great too. Just stay clear of the laksa. Sorry guys but it was tasteless and probably the worst I've ever had.
Jeremy P.O
I had the Hainanese Chicken. It was clean and light but bursting with aromatic flavour. Service was good and swift. Only complaint is that the large window amplifies the heat of the afternoon sun, but I suppose that makes you feel closer to the equator. Great new local spot off Carlisle which I would be happy to see pass the test of time on the ever-changing strip. In collaboration with Saigon Street Eats I now needn't venture further than walking distance for quality SE Asian food (well as soon as there is a Thai place nearby of comparable quality).
Chris Stewart
Excellent flavoursome food & great friendly attentive staff that were happy to accomodate my minor order changes. Will definitely be rushing back!
