Review Jimmy Grants - St Kilda

Stephanie Garza
This place is not good. They charge almost $24 for this tiny plate that they call a “protein plate” and then it didn’t even come with a Greek salad. They charged us $8 for the tiniest bowl of salad I’ve ever seen. So we paid $32 for barely any food to leave unsatisfied. Don’t come here if you are looking for a nice, filling Greek meal. I was very disappointed and not fulfilled at all when we finished here. Probably the worst meal I’ve had during 5 months in Melbourne.

Get the Greek fries with feta! Strange but wide menu choice for your kebabs, definetly peaks your interest. The kebab quality was good too, plenty of meat in them. Brilliant fries. Very accommodating and friendly staff too. Recommend coming here for a quite late night bite on a cold day.

Nicest people, awesome pita bread! Tried their frozen yogurt, falafel souvlaki, kids lamb souvas.

Stumbled here while looking for dinner on St Kilda. Friendly staff and good food - I enjoyed the Americano. I definitely want to try a few of the other souvas if I make it back to St Kilda.

Different type of yeeros compared to the traditional ones i ate in greece, i enjoyed every bite. The bread was the highlight, amazing bread and loved all the flavours inside it aswell, it all worked together.

Love this place! Have tried a few dishes and they've all been delicious. Don't expect cheap, stodgy fast food with huge unhealthy portion sizes - this is really good quality, fresh and thoughtfully prepared. Yo-Chi is a clever match. I'm surprised by some of the negative reviews but commend management for its approach towards addressing them - how it should be done.

The staff were amaingly lovely! So helpful, full of personality and just very accommodating! The food was exceptional. Honestly the best meat platter we have ever eaten. We ordered the platter for 4, lamb and chicken, dips flat bread and chips. All very yummy and cooked to perfection. Every side dish on that platter had the utmost love and care when made and it sure tasted like it too. Def 5 stars and above. Can’t wait to go back 🙌👌

My partner, young son and I dined here for the first time today. The food was delicious but I honestly felt ripped off by the portion sizes. The souvlaki was nearly $15 and was basically snack sized. The staff were excellent and friendly but the place was really understaffed for a Sunday and even the waitress mentioned this. I was also disappointed that there were no high chairs for my son. I would definitely hesitate before dining here again.

We went for a quick Jimmy Grants lunch after visiting the Rain Room and it’s clearly been years since I’ve been because I fondly remember the prawn souva which apparently departed this world some time ago. I ended up with the chicken and lamb combo one which was fatty and dominated by an unpleasant mustard taste. I was wholeheartedly underwhelmed

Had dinner here last week on a really hot sunny night - it was packed! But it didn't seem like the staff were coping at all, they were flat out and everyone was waiting very long for their orders. We waited almost an hour! We asked the waitress two times to check on our order, which she did but it definitely seemed like they were prioritising takeaway orders. Since it was so hectic, they really should have been honest and told us how long the wait was going to be. We could see/hear everyone in the kitchen too, they seemed quite stressed.

With regards to the food, the lamb was cooked perfectly and the bread and fries were great too. However, I'm not really a fan of their salad options.

I'll definitely be back as I enjoy the food and it's a good location close to the beach, but not on a busy night that's for sure!

I've got to hand it to George, he may have his faults but he sure knows his souvlaki. Still feeling hungry after eating at Ichi Ni Izakaya, my daughter and I opted to pop in for a quick shared souva before a concert at The Palais. The Mr Padopoulos ($14.50) contained everything that you could want: smokey grilled lamb, fried chips, onion, parsley and mustard aioli all encased in the most wonderful Greek bread. It certainly hit the spot!

We have been visiting Jimmy Grants for quite sometime now and we can very confidently say that their salads are refreshing, healthy, made from the freshest ingredients and are packed with flavors.

Two bonuses of dinning here, a very warm and always smiling staff and Yo-Chi, which we absolutely love eating.

Vegans and Vegetarians have plenty choose from.

I regularly order deliveries from Jimmy Grants so I feel like I have a good gauge of when I have been given what I have paid for. However when I recently ordered an eat like a Greek with extra meat and extra pita bread, I got neither. Furthermore the dip was only half full. I hope this is a one off because the good is great. Please don’t skimp on the serving sizes in your orders, especially if extras have been paid for. Very disappointing and I couldn’t even get through on the phone to provide this feedback, so I’m doing it here.

Great food, vibe, service and location! Must try the feta chips so full of flavour and all the souvlaki on the menu sounds delicious, we tried the falafel and Nona Maria, will definitely come back to try more.

Is there anything better than Souva's and the Beach!? and they have YOCHI!!! the team here are amazing! Shout out to the manager on Duty Henry I think his name is. Really looked after my family, the staff there are all multi-lingual. Really went above and beyond!

Went to the place with family and friends couple nights ago. The place was packed. But everything seemed extremely organised and didnt wait long for the foods. Also the service staff were very accommodating and patient for all of our request. I was really surprised by how amazing the food is.

30 minute wait for a kebab. It's not rocket science. Sure it was lunchtime on a magic spring day so you'd expect it to be busy. Although they didn't. I know Colombaris doesn't like paying for staff but clearly he needs to quit the TV judging and get behind the wheel, especially with these eye gouging prices. When my barely warm kebab finally arrived to my table, no "sorry for the wait", no serviette. Sure it was tasty, but with that kind of service the taste means little. Would not be in a rush to return. Hire some staff!!

Standard mr papadapoulos was one of the best I’ve eaten so much sauce and lamb soft and tender along with fresh chips. What wasn’t so great was the 2am chicken which is George’s take on a “traditional Aussie” souvo with more familiar ingredients ( lettuce, tomato & yoghurt) the chicken was a touch dry and not enough sauce made this one not a hit for me

Minus: I am disappointed at the quantity served on the plate for 2. It was mostly bread and chips, with a small side of salad and meat.

Minus: My friends were served souvlakia with cold meat.

Plus: Staff were friendly and service was good.

Plus: bread and tarama were good.

Terribly overpriced, small portions. Taramasalata was sickening - I’ve never tasted taramasalata like it. Capers in the Greek salad?? “Slow cooked” chicken was disgustingly dry and the chips were so, so salty. It was all cold by the time it arrived to our home, too. Do not recommend.

This is my go to dinner spot when I visit Melbourne. The lamb here is so tender! Recently I was recommended the soft shell crab and OMG it’s sooo good. The service here is excellent. The manager here always remembers me and is always so friendly!!!
Whats On The Grill?
Had this delivered take away to help with a stinging hangover. Was very impressed - extremely well cooked succulent lamb and the feta chips were crispy and of great quality. Will certainly try more.

I am disappointed to hear that some people got relatively nice food, as my experience was nothing less than disappointing. I went with my Greek partner and my best friend who is Greek, and they both disgusted at the lack of care with food and the taste was not Greek at all! We shared some fish with chips, dips and the souvas! The fish was horrible!! There was more crumb then fish and was so over cooked it was like eating wood!! Birds eye fish fingers would have tasted better!
The meat in the souvas very chewy, but still edible (I guess when your hungry) but the most disappointing part which should have been the most easy to get right was the dip. Tarama dip had no flavour!! A $2 tub from the supermarket would have been better!! But at least the bread was nice!!
The customer service was ok that’s about it. Overall don’t waste your money!! McDonalds food up the road would have been much nicer and sooo much more value for money!!

Honestly what the f happend.. hard days work in the industry. This used to be a good business. Bread not oiled, chicken dry , no sauce. Chips old & dry. Honestly McDonald’s would have been fresher.

I feel a little bad for my low score here because I don’t think the staff deserves it, however it is what it is. We went here with high expectations and lots of hype from our friends. It was reasonably busy but by no means slammed. We couldn’t get a clean table. We asked for someone to clean a table for us and waited almost 10 minutes for it to happen as they seemed a bit short staffed. Once we ordered it was nearly 40 minutes before we ate. We had a selection of the souvas which were all very average, not bad but not wow either. The stand out was the americano. It was full of flavour and something I’d have again. If I’m honest I just expected more, and to add insults to injury, the local souvlaki van at the petrol station near my house has better tasting meat. All in all a bit of a miss for me. Unless you were really in the mood I’d head around the corner and try some of the other trendy high quality eats around.

Wow. I have never left a meal almost uneaten before and especially at a jimmy grants outlet. This may be a rare bad night.
This was next level unacceptable. I want to add we arrived at 7.30pm.
- informed there was a wait for chicken for 20 mins. Had to order the lamb shoulder. Ok.
- Grain salad arrived first and absolutely freezing cold.
- lamb shoulder arrived as one unappetising hunk of meat and as we discovered, there was no way it was freshly prepared and did not taste right. It was awful.
- informed there was no hummus after we already received some of the meal. We had ordered extra bread to this. I could not have any other dip.
- The chips (which were forgotten until we mentioned it) were the greatest disappointment of our experience here and of chips actually anywhere I have ever eaten! normally the ‘go to’ item for Jimmy Grants, these were over saturated in oil, grey in colour and unbelievable soggy. We tried one and could not go on. As chip fanatics and normally loving the JG chips at Richmond, it was the last straw.

In fairness, the waiter refunded the cost of half our meal due to the meat and the missing hummus. But had we received the chips earlier, I would have asked for a refund of al of it.

I regrettably have to leave this review. I try to be very balanced in my reviews (see my past ones) but this was just awful. My lovely companion who has never criticised a meal ( and is far more forgiving then I) expressed that this was the single worst experience she’s ever had in a food establishment. I’m so sorry again but you need to lift your game...

We walked in and took a seat at the only 2-person table. Unfortunately it hadn’t been cleared and the floor staff never bothered to after our arrival, so we ate surrounded by dirty glasses and napkins. Given the staff member cleaned the table next to us, this was disappointing.

The food, however, was on point. The lamb and pita was especially good. But given the high price tag, and small servings, we weren’t that impressed overall. The prices and vibe (i.e. counter service etc) just don’t match here. Either up the service and decor, or lower the prices to match the grunge feel.

Slowest takeaway order ever. 35 mins for two souvas... is this a joke? Only one other table in the whole shop. Only leaving this review so their management can see it and up the ante on the service. Nobody even answered the phone for me to pre order. Other stores i.e. Emporium & Fitzroy are so fast and far busier, so no excuses.

Nice staffs and really nice food.
Very nice staffs with big smile, clear describtion for the different dip.
Fantastic lamb shoulder with nice soft pita.
Jimmy Grants St Kilda offers a selection of souvlakis (or souvas as they’re called here), larger plates, salads, snacks and desserts. All the favourites you know from the other Jimmy Grant outlets.

I had high hopes but wow was I let down.
Got the Greek salad well average and the lamb souvlaki. I have eaten before in the Fitzroy store and it was great but this came out.
Well fatty pale and nearly cold in the middle.
I understand they pre cook the lamb and then reheat but this was very bad fatty and cold it was actually disgusting. Might I also say I was the only person sitting in a 60 seat venue. So there was zero pressure on the cooks.
So disappointed as I was keen for jimmys to open.
Last but not least I had a very upset stomach that night and the next morning I was quite ill
Not impressed and will not return such a shame

Great food, Great service. The Nonna souva is my favourite, the Americano comes second. Dont get me started on the Greek salad, those peppers give it a great kick.

Came here with my partner for dinner. It’s a good location, off Acland street, facing Luna Park. Josh had the lamb souva and I had the chicken plate. We shared some chips as well. The food was really good quality and very tasty. The coleslaw salad was really fresh and wasn’t drowning in dressing and the dill was a stroke of genius! Probably the nicest coleslaw I’ve ever had thanks to the dill. The service was fantastic as well- the girl who took our order was really nice and made sure there was enough chicken for my plate and even came back to our table to check on us and make sure everything was to our liking.
