Review St Hotel - St Kilda

Warren Tate Speaker Coach
Always wanted to visit and thought it looked good from the outside. I was not disappointed with the inside decor with high ceilings and exposed beams and brickwork, however that’s was the end of it. The choices of spirits is very limited, the service was great because we were too early for the young crowd. Will try again however we will need to pick the right night.

Sundays of Summer Fiesta at St Hotel are amazing. Cheap drinks, amazing environment, Free Salsa & Bachata Classes, Live Bands and Latin Food. I love it!!!

I was in the upstairs rooms for a party. The facilities were okay, the bar service was prompt and efficient, the (upstairs) staff were friendly. The balcony is nice as well. The front door staff seemed a touch aloof but that's okay, I didn't really find it a problem. The security guard also gave us some ($20) drink cards, which was a nice gesture. The drinks downstairs seemed a little expensive though. Overall, I was satisfied with the facilities that I used here.

Really great atmosphere and service. I stopped by because I had time to kill before dinner up the road. The bartender was great. Conversational and recommended me a great beer on my vague preferences. I'm not in this neighbourhood often so it's nice to know this is here for when I come back.

Very pretty, interesting layout. Made for some great photos. Lovely staff, drinks and food were delicious (those mini cheeseburger things omg!). Would've been nicer to just order from our table rather than getting up and going to the other end of the restaurant but otherwise a very nice place.

Spent a evening attending an engagement on a very not day with a broken air con. No attempt to bring in fans or something to make guests comfortable. Cannot fault staff. They were great. Finger food was great too.

We held our Post Wedding Drinks here and the GM Chris did not abide by the contract agreement. In fact he approached two older family members during the event and got them to place more money on the bar tab without us knowing. We had requested house wine and beer on the tab until it ran out out and then people were to purchase their own drinks.. but he operated it as an open bar and kept the bar tab running which was not in our contract. He got an extra $1500 out of a family member whom he told we owed an extra $500 on top of what we had already paid (??!!) and that he would shut the bar down if more money wasn't placed on the bar tab. Chris put on one staff member for 200 people (!!). No roaming canapes as requested, all placed out at the beginning meaning people missed out throughout the night. When we found out about this after the wedding and questioned him asking for an itemized invoice he called us "f*****g ungrateful". We have now requested this invoice twice to which both requests have been ignored. Don't deal with the St Hotel if you are running an event. Unprofessional and dodgy. So disappointed in the service. Will never step foot in this establishment again. There are plenty of other establishments that would offer much more honest service and who will abide by your contract without calling you expletive names when you question why they deviated from the agreement. Bottom line do not bother with the St Hotel and do not deal with Chris.

I wouldn't even give this place one star, just drove over 100km from Gippsland to enjoy the city... On entering bar which was empty and dirty,we received our drinks lemonade was actually good coke was syrup of some sort only to be seated at a filthy booth. Whilst waiting for lunch for over half an hour we both went to toilet (don't do it)it was disgusting... Lunch arrived just something light we thought 4 satay chicken skewers RAW,3 cocktail spring rolls over cooked and a side salad that looked liked last week's . We just walked out in disgust never to return.... Do yourself a favour plenty more pubs around..... forgot to mention on arrival ants at our table should've left then.😡

Not the greatest experience. Staff were not warm. When we tried to order food and drinks at the bar, bartender cut us off and told us that food was ordered down the back. He then proceeded to walk off without taking our drinks order. <br/>Chicken satay - extremely lackluster. Not cooked properly - still pink and was not hot when it arrived at the table. Wedges were room temperature. <br/>Vegetable curry and lamb korma only 2 edible dishes. <br/>Not impressed and will not be going back. Ever

Held a company reunion for 40 guests on the Rooftop of the St Hotel on Saturday 16th February from 12.00 (noon) onwards.  Daniel (Event Co-ordinator) went out of his way to ensure that our function was fabulous and the waitstaff, in particular Zim, were so attentive and friendly.  The finger food was delicious.  Highly recommend the St Hotel.  Thanks for making our day so special.  Serena

Greek menu has replaced the awesome Thai cuisine they used to serve but it wasn't bad either.<br/><br/>Portions and meat quantity was good enough and except the Jackfruit (Open) Souvlaki, Charred Prawn, Lamb and Chicken Souvlaki were awesome.<br/><br/>We could have easily ordered a bowl of simple fries but the description of the vegetarian loaded fries were too tempting and misleading. Jackfruit Souvlaki was so freaking sour that we almost didn't finish it had we not been so hungry.<br/><br/>Predominantly a Bar where you go to.have few drinks but not a bad place for a quick lunch or dinner.<br/><br/>Decent choice for Vegans and Vegetarians but not sure of the taste<br/><br/>Attendants can be little inattentive but that doesn't hinder much.

Went to the St. Hotel for a Christmas function. It has a nice dance floor. Handy having two bars in the function area as well. However I feel that the canapé menu and canapé service needs to be worked on. Canapés should be served in both rooms and a canapé tray full of food should never be left at the bar, making it difficult for others to access the food. There needs to be a better way to provide food to those with dietary requirements. Colleagues and I were concerned that the vegetarians/vegans were not being provided with enough food, mainly because food may have already been eaten before it reached those who had these requirements plus I remember the vegan dish coming out quite late in the evening. Food should not be staggered like it was. Some people weren’t able to have any of the canapés until 9pm (when function started at 6:30pm). Perhaps there could have been a way our company could have organised the party so the food was not staggered. I’m not sure... I definitely think more food was needed. It isn’t safe to have a work function with an open bar with lack of food that is staggered throughout the evening. It has definitely been an eye opening experience for me and food for thought... I doubt I will ever want to go to another canapé and drinks event again after this. <br/><br/>Also, air conditioning/temperature was a major issue. One of our rooms was very warm.<br/><br/>On the positive side, the dumplings were delicious. All the other canapés were not that nice.

We had a booking for 20 people for a weekday lunch. Booking was made with the functions manager who didn’t tell the kitchen. We arrived and no one was there. No one in kitchen and no tables made up. We had pre-paid for a set menu and only received half the food after 1.5 hours waiting. Food that arrived was bland, tasteless, cold and half of it was inedible. One person missed out altogether as they forgot her food. Dessert was supposed to be included but they shut the kitchen before making them.<br/>Will never set foot in this place again.

Nice location, average service, terrible portion size on the meat platter, chicken came out cold, lamb was stringy and of very low quality. Horrible food. Even the lemon lime bitters was atrocious. Don’t recommend.

First impressions count and last night’s barman couldn’t be bothered to even smile, say hello or thank us for buying drinks. He was in short not suited for life in hospitality. Everything after that was tainted by this first interaction. I thought the food was very average and portion sizes far from generous ($17 for an Open Souv with five small pieces of chicken and $7 for a very small bowl of slaw). Will never return nor recommend.

Came here with a big group of friends and they were really accomodating. Eggplant bao was amazing! Spring rolls were really nice too. Also enjoyed the espresso martini

Had a Christmas lunch with my girlfriends here on the weekend......<br/>We were all really happy with food, cocktails, atmosphere and service was impeccable!! The staff went above and beyond we will be going back!! <br/>There appears to have been a change in management and it is certainly for the better!

I have been there twice. Good food and drink place. If you are looking for a dinner place and drinks + a bit of dancing after this place has it all! 3 in 1!

I've been to the St.Hotel a few times only for drinks but do like the interior - it's a cool spot to catch up with friends and have a drink. I'd come back and try food (only if we were really stuck on where else to go).

A definite must if you love a pub meal !! It's classy without being to toffee.. staff are down to earth and Wednesday night steak night is worth it . Great value , great food and gorgeous looking room .

We had our baby shower lunch here yesterday. Couldn't say anything bad about the staff or the food at the Saint Hotel. All our guests thoroughly enjoyed the food and the atmosphere and we were able to play our own music as well as decorate the table how we like. The staff member who looked after us was extremely helpful, we thank the Saint Hotel for a wonderful day.

Cocktails were just fair Turkish delight and pomegranate mojito . The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating though. Very loud and crowded (Saturday night) . Nice fun atmosphere however

Payed 11.50 for a schooner that should been enough warning to leave but decided to order the cheese board and meat board, after a half hour wait (4 ppl in bar area) they turned up and they looked more like bread boards. 3 peices of cheese 2 were blue. Chedder was reasonable, the rest of the plate was bread. Meat board, 4 peices of slami, 4 bits of prosciutto and half a loaf of bread. $22 each ordered off the "larger menu" were going elsewhere to get a real meal very dissapointed
Good Food Good Mood
Absolutely love this place. The St has relaunched itself (and its menu) a few times and the latest is bang on. Not to mention the interiors 👌🏽<br/>Great cocktail list, great decor and great food.<br/>I recently had my birthday here and the value for money we got for dinner was ridiculous and the food was all fantastic. I was able to chose a menu that included the below for $50pp and the servings were so generous we literally couldn't finish it (and we really wanted to) <br/>2 x SNACKS – served sharing style<br/>3 x STARTERS – served sharing style<br/>3 x MAIN - individual<br/>Would really recommend functions like birthdays here as it was so easy to organise unlike most venues which charge cakeage and much higher set costs per person
Taking A Bite
The Burrata dish at St Hotel was divine. Wood roasted jamon wrapped buffalo mozzarella with wild mushrooms and bitter leaves. Paired with a 2015 La La Land Pinot Gris. Stunning! Just one of the amazing dishes on St Hotels reinvented European inspired menu. Beautiful, relaxed interior defiantly differentiates the venue from an old school pub vibe. The Beautiful Smoked Ocean Trout rillettes with rye crisps and Yarra Valley caviar, started off a lovely meal at St Hotel. The Elderflower Pannacotta with Blueberries and Lemon at St Hotel paired with a beautiful glass of 2015 Borgo Moscato d'Asti by Red and White Australia was a Lovely and indulgent way to end the night. So much inspiration and creativity comes out of the St Hotel kitchen. A must visit in St Kilda.

I had a lovely time at the Saint Hotel. The starters were delicious. The halloumi, soft shell crab sliders and the (croquettes although can't remember if that was the name.) The flavour combinations were a great intro for the mains. The beef was cooked well and the calamari with the ink aoli!Yum! There is a band that plays Sunday night and we were pre warned it is quite loud so perhaps would opt for a quieter time slot. I'm not sure why people have complained about service. Had very friendly attentive staff and excellent service. Worth a visit.

Probably the worst burger I've ever had. Stale bread, watery, chewy meat patty and no flavour whatsoever. I enjoyed the dill pickle on my plate more than the burger! And for $18 too? Won't be returning!!

The last time I was at the St. Hotel in St Kilda, the gorgeous old building (which has been in the neighbourhood since 1915) was packed rafter to rafter with people, lining up for Asian bites from St Hotel and a range of other restaurants as an event. . Although it was fun, it was hectic, so when I had an opportunity to revisit the St. Hotel to try their new European bar and dining menu, I was certainly keen to check out what head chef Ben Isaacs had to offer.

Go for a Wednesday Steak Night and it's definitely worth it! The service was still good considering there was a large group there at the same time. <br/><br/>Talking about the huge steak(600g)! You pay $55 for 2 pots and that steak! Yummmmmm
Baysidefoodie
Good environment, food was ok, don't mind come back to try the pub meal, rather than the dinning room of Asian Thai food. Service was quick.

I went for the Steak Frites (which appears to have vacated the menu), but ended up with the hangar steak. Being a frites fiend, I was initially disappointed, but going with the waiter's recommendation was a good move. Tender, charcoaley, with a rocket and radish salad, and remoulade, it was the perfect lazy Sunday lunch. The venue was surprisingly quiet and the wait staff were genuine and attentive without being overwhelming. Sides of Waldorf slaw, fries, and the pepper sauce. Would recommend for a group lunch - plenty of room and reasonably priced.

Comprising of the downstairs Public Bar St Hotel and Dining Room, upstairs bespoke drinking with the Supper Club and Social Club, the St. Hotel has it all! St Hotel's 1kg 200 day John Dee grain fed rib eye was beautifully tender and flavoursome.  The accompaniments to the steak were each delicious – wonderfully flavoured jus and the dressed rocket provided a thoroughly enjoyable freshness.  Of course, the true highlight was the giant rib eye itself  – a light searing ensured that it was lined with a thin crisp, caramelised exterior.  The meat was intense with a deep earthy richness and sublime texture.

Great service all round, friendly ladies especially one with an accent and light brown hair and the gentlemen with an accent. Interior has a lively upbeat vibe with polish music playing. Offers a rangeGreat for solo diners & large groups.
A Chronicle Of Gastronomy
Undergoing an revamp and rebranding in 2014, St Hotel is a multi-story European bar and resaturant featuring menus by Head Chef Ben Isaacs. A big focus of the food menu revolves around their ironbark wood-fired BBQ, and Australian pasture and grain-fed beef prepared in their bespoke barbeque are their pride and joy. As well as the spacious main dining room and bar area, multiple private spaces and bars upstairs are available for use.

DISGUSTING TOILETS - I had to rush to the toilet after finishing a burger (charred on the outside, red-raw in the middle). The disabled toilet (I am unsteady and walk with a cane) stank and was filled with faeces and toilet paper. Rushed to the gents, did my business only to discover no toilet paper at all in the 4/5 roll holder (and had to limbo around a door that opens inwards with virtually no clearance between it and the toilet - not easy when you need a stick to walk). Told the manager who twice said "I hear what you're saying". I suggested she do something. She said she would and added "I'm as horrified as you". "Yes, but you're not going home with an unwiped backside and wet underpants". If it had been me, I'd have comped the meal. They did not.
Happiness.is.food
The Saint hotel has gone through a couple of "refurbishments" the past couple of years.  This time, I think they've nailed it.  Chef Ben Isaacs has created decadently moorish food that can be enjoyed as a group or more intimately if you prefer.<br/>There is a sophisticated feel to the decor, and once you've eaten, you can continue to enjoy some more drinks upstairs.  In particular this place takes off on a Friday and Saturday night.   My favourite was the buffalo mozzarella and prosciutto.  As well as the mac & cheese side.  I left feeling extremely satisfied and happy with a wonderful evening!

Fantastic food and very accommodating. The new menu takes the dining experience to a new level.  I was lucky enough to try the vegan/vegetarian menu which included a mushroom dish that was out of this world.<br/><br/>Definitely a must try for all south siders!

St Hotel or ‘the saint’ as some may know it, is a bit of an institution in St Kilda. It continues to be a place for people to eat tasty food and drink quality beverages. They recently launched a new European bar and bistro menu with chef Ben Isaacs running the kitchen. Quality produce cooked to perfection and a well-known institution reinvented.
My Food Trail
I came here for the new European menu launch. Great atmosphere and food. My pick would be to order something from the wood fired BBQ menu. We had the chateaubriand which was cooked perfectly. I really enjoyed the honey + thyme roasted purple carrots and the cauliflower + Gruyere Mac n cheese.

Fabulous food, fantastic knowledgable staff coupled with a warm & welcoming ambience makes for an always wonderful night, thank you St Hotel, we will be back - particularly for the suggestive eclair ;)
Melbourneyum
Great interior with exposed brick and feature greenery wall.<br/>Tried the new European menu for dinner all courses paired w wines that compliment your meal @redandwhite_au <br/>Elderflower pannacotta w blueberries & lemon was really nice and creamy but the top layer was overly too sweet for me.<br/>Plenty of meat options for those carnivores <br/>They also had a lot of pescatarian options Crumbed pacific oysters amazing 😍👍🏻 <br/> Parmesan cheese balls were very good<br/>And for the main I had the barramundi which was Perfect.<br/>Mac and cheese was decadently good.<br/>Great place for great dinner out.<br/>Dessert wine was really enjoyable
Glorious Food Melbs
The vegetarian pumpkin main was delicious, as was the side of cabbage and the steak. I particularly liked the sauce with the steak! I can't speak highly enough about the soft, crunchy wonderful eclairs to finish! I was pretty shocked by the over-priced $14 chicken starter though.....the dish and portion did not match the price.

We had an early dinner at the St. Saturday night. Our waitress was quick to take our drinks and meal orders, however the first round of drinks took a long time to arrive. Our meals arrived fairly quickly but our sides did not arrive until after our mains had been finished. This was not ideal. We were not asked if we would like a second round of drinks until we were able to get a staff members attentions. It took a further 20mins for the drinks to arrive. The food was nice, the service very disappointing and our waitress quite rude in the end. We won't be rushing back in a hurry because of the service.

Had a lovely dinner here last night with the girls. The food was amazing. We shared some entrees and mains and the stand outs were the soft shell crab sliders, the lamb rump me the wagyu. We told them we were sharing and to our surprise everything came out positioned for us with individual plates of salad and accompaniments. Most chefs wouldn't ever do that and was so thou toil of the team to arrange that. Looking forward to going back when I'm in town again.

I'm not sure why the hotel doesnt show up when you search for dinner venues in the area, but it must! Absolutely loved the food, most interesting menu in a long time, ox cheek, soft-shell crab sliders, calamari with Hummus, mozzarella and fig ! Recommend them all. The only issue are the portions, its misleading that they are in large sharing platter section but actually the size of an appetizer which is why I have deducted half a point. Other than that its a great place, really cool interiors and perfect to just go up to the bar after dinner and not have to uber to another place:)
Melbourne Explorer
A great spot in St. Kilda. Its split in two with a public bar and restaurant with great asian fusion flavours.<br/><br/>The food is incredible, a must try.
Heidi
The revamp of the saint has left the place with a really on trend and cool vibe, it's a little similar in layout to the Richmond club hotel. I had the banquet here, it's pretty good value at only $46 per person. I really liked the watermelon and barramundi salad in particular. The rest was quite good too, but not quite as good as your chin chin or Lucy Liu etc.
J0rdz
Lovely atmosphere, great decor and super friendly staff. Had a variety of appetizers and slowly picked away whilst soaking up the venue. We dropped in at around 4pm on a Sunday evening and the place was relatively quiet.<br/><br/>Highly recommend the pulled pork buns - which were off-the-charts.<br/><br/>Will definitely head back!
Love My Food
This great looking venue with a party vibe serves up delicious modern Thai food packed with incredible flavour. Great place to meet friends for dinner and drinks afterwards.
Teagan Fraser
Came here with a party of 8 and everything was fantastic. Our waitress was bubbly and helpful, the food was delicious and they were on the ball with all my intolerances which can be a nightmare sometimes. The decor is really cool only fault is that it was a little bit dark inside and couldn't really have a conversation without yelling but otherwise amazing!
Gastrology
We started with the Chopped Flinders Island scallops, tamarind vinegar, and radish. A simple and tasty starter that was packed with flavour, we particularly loved the tamarind zing which added interest. The Kingfish was excellent. Displaying technique and skilful restraint, the kingfish was beautifully presented and accompanied by a citrus-based marinade that cured the kingfish. It was a wonderful mélange of salinity, sweetness and acidity.

A regular at this hot spot over Summer. Nothing better than a few drinks on a Sunday, except always somehow carries over into evening/early hours of Monday! Great tunes, delicious food, too much fun!
Işın Gizem Çelik
Loved the atmosphere. Went there for after xmas drinks and it was actually kinda dead but we were like 15 people so it was fun. We've got a bottle of white. Nice place to hangout and have some drinks with friends
Gastrology
The venue is a multi- tiered and multi-faceted complex, comprising of the downstairs Public Bar St Hotel and Dining Room, upstairs bespoke drinking with the Supper Club and Social Club. . The highly skilled kitchen is headed by Head Chef Sean Judd who bring dedication and vision to present a menu of authentic Thai food with regional influences. The menu is, quite simply put, sensational, boasting classically-inspired and creative Thai cuisine that makes a statement.
Melbourne Foodie Finds
My reasons for going to the Saint Hotel in St. Kilda have definitely changed dramatically over the past few years. This comes down to a lot of reasons, mainly being I no longer need to sneak into places with a fake ID, but also because this place has actually had quite a transformation itself. I feel like this place is kind of growing up with me, and I absolutely love it. <br/><br/>After 2 and a half year renovation, The Saint Hotel now not only serves as a great place to head for a drink at night, but has thrown a Thai food menu into the mix.  While maintaining the heritage exterior, the interior has been stripped back to bare brick, glass and moulded concrete, with simple light wood fittings. The main dining area is absolutely stunning, with a high glass ceiling letting in the natural sunlight and warmth. Gorgeous plantations hang from the walls, giving the space a fresh, inviting, island-like feel, whilst maintaining its long-established pub vibe. I almost felt like I was in a tropical butterfly enclosure.<br/><br/>They also serve Asian inspired cocktails which are super tasty and refreshing. Featured below:<br/><br/>-THE FLUFFY POM: Camomile gin, St Germsin elderflower liqueur, Lillet Blanc, lemon, honey, egg whites, orange blossom<br/>-TROPIC THUNDER: Belvedere vodka, Doamine Canton ginger liqueur, lychee syrup, lemon- grass, lemon, pineapple juice<br/>-MARGARITA <br/><br/>I absolutely loved everything on this menu, the satay sauce is probably one of the best I have ever tasted. So get around the Saint guys, its undeniably blossomed into a magnificent butterfly.
The Food Society
On every Sunday, St Hotel lays out a thai banquet to help soak up the excesses of Saturday night. We sauntered down to have a taste. Marinated pork Skewers with nahm jim jaew. The Pork was juicy and rich with a touch of sweetness and a good tang. The sauce had a bitter edge that cut through the pork bringing a little heat and a great spice.
LifestyleByLily
I'm in love with St. Kilda all over again!<br/>The interior of the building has been beautifully remodelled  and looks amazing, We ordered a few dishes to share which came out staggered, perfect!<br/>My favourite dish was the pork buns...yum. They were the best pork buns I have had to date. We also shared a main course, the noodles were a little big but apart from that, it was a tasty dish.
Josh Hubber
A beautifully renovated establishment, but that is as far as it goes... staff hide behind the bar dancing and talking while there isn't a clean table in the bar area. Our table was not cleared once the whole time we were there, neither was anyone elses. The food was very average and over priced.
Gastrology
A night of endless entertainment, with a line-up of circus acts and freaky performers strutting their stuff around every corner, it was a vibrant celebration of Melbourne’s best Asian street food, drinks and tunes. <br/><br/>Host, St Hotel turned up the heat with a delicious braised pork red curry. The perfectly seasoned curry broth possessed the customary punchy flavours exhibited Thai curries and was a great match for the tender pork. We loved the inclusion of textural bamboo shoots and the added kick from the addition of green peppercor
Kate
Great Asian blended menu but more on the Thai side. The chefs do a good job of mixing fresh produce together. Dishes are a bit sweet n sour. But the spice helps balance it out.  Staff are great as well and nice location.  highly recommended.
Elizabeth
Delish! After a mix up with our booking we were shouted a bottle of wine while we waited for a table. Amazing and fresh food, decent wine list too
TheSkinnyFoodie
The staff here are lovely and super accommodating so rated a 3 just for service alone. However the food is average and I really don't think there is that much variety and a lot of dishes seem similar to others on the menu. I also ended up sick after eating here. <br/>We went upstairs for a drink and the crowd basically consists of drunk English girls that are quite sloppy (probably backpackers) and its a bit too loud (even in the bar section) which kills the ambience. They don't have a cocktail menu which is also strange considering the vibe they were trying to go for when they opened this place. Its a shame as it would be a great venue for summer drinks otherwise.
LM
These are the $8 chips - they're crap, don't get them. Also, staff won't bring them upstairs. You have to go and collect them from the bar - why? WHY? A staff member came upstairs to tell me this. Also, they came back upstairs to collect the empty basket. WTF! Otherwise the place is nice.
Ditton 22
Deep fried lamb ribs were very over cooked.. All the plates were chipped.. Surely someone cares?? Poor on all counts.. The room is nice tho I guesa
Georgovic
You know you're in to get rorted when you order two schooners of beer and are charged $25! I understand that youve just renovated but really??!! Overrated. Don't waste your money!
Birdman
You know it's pretty ordinary food when the bowl of spicy nuts for $5 is the highlight of the meal. The soft shell crab was a big battery uneatable mess, the southern chicken curry was ok and the lamb ribs were average. They had run out of 4 things on the menu and also one of the beers. Wouldn't return if it was all expenses paid
Fat Teddys Crew
Doesn't know if it's a restaurant, bar or a nightclub. Confused & hasn't found its identity yet. If a restaurant TURN THE MUSIC DOWN! If a bar forget about trying to do casual food service. If a nightclub: say that and diners who want to eat a lovely Thai dinner can go elsewhere. Steamed fish was woefully overcooked. Rice gluggy. All in all pretty average & a bit too "look at me, I am the pretty new kid on the block" to be taken seriously as a food destination. Par the menu back: serve sliders and chips and stop pretending.

Went in for lunch, what a great experience. Waited on by an English girl who was fantastic, friendly and knowledgeable about the food. I've been in before and was told some dishes on the menu had changed such as the Papaya Salad. It how came with Pork on the side, personally I found the pork to be tasty but extremely tough, was hard to stick my fork into. The rest of the dish was delicious.<br/><br/>The lamb ribs were a winner yet again, my favourite. Had the chicken curry too, was also great. I look forward to returning.

As a St Klida local, I so wanted to like this place. The renovations are amazing and was impressed with the front bar and staff as I waited for my dining companion. The dining room is quite noisy (music a tad to loud) as everyone was having to raise their voice in conversation to be heard. The menu is very heavy on the chilli. No problem I love chilli as does my friend, who always asks for extra on the side wherever we go. The dishes were so chilli hot that even my, 'more chilli the better' friend had trouble. Oh well, our fault for not asking before ordering.<br/>I return with another friend for a lunch several weeks later. Again, the music is too loud and the dining guests are having to raise their voices to be heard. This makes for a noisy room.<br/>I am more savvy this time and upon ordering I ask my waitress about the salad I have chosen. It is the spiciest salad on the menu but she assures me that it is only a medium heat and will be fine for my 'medium heat' preferences. <br/>When my salad arrives, I notice it's 90% chopped up cabbage. Hmmmmm. Not to worry. I bet it tastes amazing! Two mouthfuls is all I can handle. The salad is so hot, for me it's inedible. I call over the waitress and tell her that the salad is not a medium heat as she assured me and that I'm unable to eat it. She took the dish away without any other options for me to order. My mouth is so on fire, I call her back and ask for some plain steamed rice. This was my lunch.<br/>A pretty disappointing experience on both occasions. Even more so to see that I was still charged for the 'way hot' salad AND the rice. I'm not one to make a fuss. We pay and leave. Will I go back again to the restaurant? No. Will I go there for a drink at one of the bars? Probably, but only because the renovations are so beautiful. This is the only reason I will give it another go.
OPERAKAT
Great food and service. Stunning venue with great crew who deliver superb service, the food is Thai and fantastic, I should add a great wine list with a selection of southern Australian best and at a very good prices, I am impressed and I did not have to queue as at Chin Chin and that is a bonus
Rachel Eyring House
To Dane, our server and ALL the staff -- absolutely amazing! Food, service, setting...the food was amazing kudos to the kitchen (birthday boy chef!) and it was made that much better by the staff. Trust them to choose your menu and they will accommodate dietary requirements too. Absolutely perfect - Highly recommend and will be back!

Not a good experience. After wating around 40 minutes to arrive one of our mains courses didn't arrive on time. The staff members said that it was just matter of few minutes we waited 20 and the main course didn't

Good night out. Went for dinner with group of friends. Like the vibe and look of the place. Food was done well, lamb ribs were delicious, main of pork was too salty for my taste. Waitstaff friendly and approachable. Would go again.

Wow! What an amazing Venue!. The food at the St Hotel is exceptional!!! the lamb shoulder is one of the best things I have ever tasted! .. The new look venue is awesome, with high ceilings and the exposed brick looks amazing. The supper and social clubs upstairs is where this venue comes alive. On Saturday nights upstairs really kicks off in the supper and social clubs. <br/><br/>Great cocktails on menu and over 16 beers on tap in the front bar. Great date venue or if you want to come down with a big group of friends for dinner and then make your way upstairs for some cocktails and a dance.<br/><br/>I can't recommend this venue highly enough!
The New Fave
To sum up the St Hotel in one word - 'nice'. The old St Hotel has been resurrected by the duo behind Hanoi Hannah, Saigon Sally and Tokyo Tina. Offering modern Thai cuisine, the venue has been decked out with indoor plants, wall / ceiling art and eclectic furniture, creating an overall funky vibe.   The staff were incredible - friendly, attentive and helpful - definitely the highlight of the night. Unfortunately the food was, well, just 'nice'. To eat we had the pork ribs, corn on the cob, sweet chilli chicken stir fry, beef stir fry and smashed Papaya salad.  The ribs had nice flavours but were quite fatty and the corn on the cob was ok, but lacked any sort of flavour punch or wow factor. The stir fries were the best dishes of the night - fragrant, fresh and well cooked. Unfortunately the flavours were still lacking that wow factor that makes me come running back through a restaurant's doors.  The papaya salad was the most dissapointing dish of the night. Papaya salad is one of my fave salads - I could easily chow down on a bowel from Chin Chin any old day of the week. But this one, although not terrible, lacked texture and complexity in flavours (which wasn't helped by a lot of the papaya not being shredded properly) and the crackling on the side was described by my friend

Wow. Bloody hell. The food is absolutely brilliant. Get in quick before it gets a chef's hat (or two) and gets a 6 week waiting list!!
Stuck In Transit
With a menu based around modern Asian cuisine, all dishes are designed to share which I love. We asked our waitress how much we should order and she had recommended two small dishes and a few larger dishes to share. Since we weren't overly hungry, we just went with one small and two large dishes and would see how we would go from there.  We started with the 'Grilled Sweetcorn' with salted coconut cream, roasted chilli and peanuts. Probably not healthy for you in any way, but it was so full of flavour, juicy and left me wanting more. The roasted chilli gave it just enough kick without being over powering . Shortly after we have finished our corn, our first main arrived which was the 'Hopkins River Beef Rump' served with chilli and Thai basil. I was surprised it wasn't as spicy as the corn, and the beef was slightly overcooked. It packed some great flavours, but wasn't a winning dish for me. A few minutes later our second and final main arrived which was a 'Red Curry of Roasted Duck' with lychees and Thai eggplant and served with a pineapple achar pickle. Again not really another memorable dish for me. There was no meat on the duck what so ever, however the juice was probably the tastiest bit of the dish.  Overall the food left me feeling a bit under satisfied. There wasn't anything that really stood out for me besides the corn. Don't get me wrong, the food was okay, but compared to the other restaurants, this one falls a bit behind. The vibe of the space was great, and will need to come back on a weekend to check out the supper club.

Commenting on the menu Sean says “ Thailand is a diverse country with regions and seasons and the food reflects this. Thailand’s food is constantly evolving much like the rest of the world so our menu will be a reflection of these things , a mixture of traditional Thai dishes, some will-know and some lesser known but equally good, and contemporary dishes with authentic Thai flavours”. As Chef Sean Judd says on his twitter “What can I say, I play with food for a living” that sounds like a good place to be and they are definitely having some fun with the food at St. Hotel, hailing from Longrain and Chin Chin it’s nice to eat Chef Sean’s food and not have to queue for a table! Infact it’s a perfect long weekend sunny afternoon, we’ve walked a few kms along the beach and worked up an appetite. The new fit out to the old Saint is stunning, they have created an airy, modern, fun space with a sadistically tempting menu and a welcome local wine list. So drinkies are sorted, very pleased with my Heathcote Rosé, perfect for sunshine and spicy Thai, the wine list hails some great wines from across Victoria as well as South Australia and a few good internationals popped in to offer something different, I am a sucker for a good Gruner Veltliner. So menu wise it’s all about sharing, little bites, big plates, curries, spicy salads and more. The little bites are small but pack a big flavour punch. The Miang – Betel leaf, smoked trout, pomello and roasted coconut are sensational, one big mouthful of sweet, spice, sour and smokey fish. Could eat these all afternoon. The Shredded chicken salad with banana blossom, lemongrass and peanuts is a big pile of amazingness, when asked if we like it hot, we all chorus “Yes!” and this is a good test, just th
Hide And Seek
It might be in an old bank, but there’s nothing staid about the Saint. Backpackers dress up, professionals dress down and bright young things wear little more than fake tans. Make no mistake: the Saint is all about partying. Their website might spruik relaxed afternoon drinks in the Asian-inspired courtyard, but this is a little difficult given the opening hours. Instead use the cool open space as time-out from two levels of pumping tunes, with weekend house music upstairs and DJs downstairs.<br/>

We are at Kilda locals and were really excited when this place opened. Have had mixed experiences since. Bar staff up front are always friendly and helpful and willing to please. Great selection of beers and awesome cocktail menu. Restaurant out the back serves beautiful food but the attitude of the staff let them down from time to time... Tonight for example - walked into restaurant at 7pmish to be told by a guy that no seating available but to grab a drink and come back in 20mins. Did just that, came back and told by a girl ohh sorry you didn't put your name down so there's a really long wait now. Pretty poor form and she was very unapologetic. It's a shame that this sort of customer service lets a whole establishment down. Won't be hurrying back.
Feckless
Hmm. I'm not sure what this place is anymore. Service was so-so: understandable, as there are clearly new processes in place, but it was kinda chaotic. It's mostly given over to the restaurant and bar (upstairs) areas now, so no good really going for a relaxed drink with any more than a couple of people. Trying VERY hard to be cool upstairs. It was quite pricey for what it is. I'll give it a few months and revisit, just to see if they've settled into a routine and found their groove/identity, but for the moment in a bit 'meh'. If you want a bar in st Kilda, there are better. If you want a restaurant in St Kilda, there are better. If you want a pub in st Kilda, there are better. If you want a middling mash-up of all three, this might be the place for you.

Good food but.... Fire alarm went off for quite some time during lunch. We were told to evacuate only to be told it was a false alarm, then minutes later, told to evacuate again. <br/>Very frustrating interruption and no compensation or apology from staff.<br/>Also, can't take drinks outside despite tables being set up ..don't know what they expect patrons to consume at these tables?<br/>Food good but on the overpriced side, especially the scallops
