Review Prince Dining Room - St Kilda

Lynn Johnston
We dined here today, having a vegan menu with delicious local wine. Being vegetarians and a chef my partner and I felt that we had not had such a delicious meal such as this for quite some time; 4 years in fact. The Staff are all delightful and the service perfect. The quality and standard warrant the most affordable cost. We loved it.

What a delightful experience! Had the special quail, scallops and prawns. The truffle quail it was so rich in flavour! A must try for sure! If you pair it with a Tasmanian red will make your experience complete! Strongly suggest it ;)

Always love this place .. Especially for their espresso martini. We came here for a drink and a dessert. If you are having a sweet tooth that chocolate cookie dessert is a must.

The layout and décor of the Prince are great. They allow for relaxed dining. The food is always fresh and of high quality. The menu changes frequently so there are always new surprises each visit with some staples carrying over. The staff are excellent and look after your superbly with a smile. There is a good wine list. I highly recommend the Prince.

A fabulous experience, highly recommended by an occasional regular (special occasions mostly). Outstanding staff! Friendly, competent, dedicated and very charming. I love the quality of the natural light filtering into the large windows through green foliage, and the open and inviting design. And of course, the food is absolutely excellent too! Perfect for lazy very extended lunches …

I honestly could not say enough good things about our experience at The Prince Dining Room today. The space is beautiful, warm, comfy and stylish. The staff couldn't have been more lovely. Theo is an absolute treasure and took such wonderful care of us. The food was some of the best I've had, fresh, thoughtful, sourced locally, prepared extremely skilfully. Letting the deliciousness of the produce shine. Clever and interesting without being too fussy. The wine was amazing and not overly priced (and P. S you can go to The Prince Wine Room and take a bottle from there up with you!!). We had the $55 tasting menu and were so impressed. It was incredible value, as well as being generous and delicious they were so accommodating with our dietary preferences. I almost don't want to write this review in case it's gets so popular I can't get a reservation but it's too wonderful an experience not to share. If you've got a date, birthday, anniversary, fancy work lunch you will not put a foot wrong at The Prince. These are consummate professionals, royalty of the hospitality scene both front and back of house.... *Chef's Kiss* amazing! ✨ I can't wait to go back again 👌🏻

It is always a pleasure to dine at The Prince. The food is sophisticated and delicious, the staff are friendly and very professional and the room is stylish. The seating is not crowded. It’s my favourite place to take friends for dinner. My friend and I enjoyed our celebration there last night.

Interesting concept in a beautiful atmosphere with a Moroccan / Mediterranean gastronomic vibe.

Novel combinations like harissa butter, sorrel, cumin beef, mustard leaves. Very adventurous.

We ordered the sweet potato, wagyu skewers, snapper crudo, cauliflower, braised rib, summer salad, roast potatoes.

Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. Our favorites were the cauliflower, summer salad and the snapper crudo, although the other dishes weren't far behind.

What a gem!!!!

We were staying on Acland Street and wanted to eat local. The Prince Dining Room was an excellent pick. The dining room is very comfortable and casual but upmarket at the same time. The service was excellent all night. The menu is designed for sharing which was perfect and we grazed our way through. The middle eastern flavours were delicious. It takes real talent to make the vegetable dishes sound more attractive than the meat dishes on a menu but the chef has managed to. The serves are great value for the prices. We had a lovely night.

So I hope you do enjoy all these images and get a feel for this stunning restaurant!

Having been open for decades, Circa, the Prince recently underwent a radical transformation at the end of last year to provide its diners with an experience that is less "fine dining" and more relaxed. Enter Prince Dining Room. Gone are the formal settings – you won’t see white linen table cloths here. In its place is a refurbished dining room dominated by urban and grungy tones - consistent with the current restaurant vogue.

My partner and I visited mid week for dinner and were greeted very friendly by all staff.

Very stylish interior, dark, warm ambience inside with outdoor deck if you want to check out the view.

Tried a few of the dishes and there wasn’t one dish we didn’t enjoy.

My favs were the prawn skewers!

Good cocktail list 👌🏼
Really awesome place to have dinner, catch up with friends or take a break from the usual.
This place is beautifully designed with delicious food and the service is impeccable.

We tried a selection of their dishes but suspect they have seasonal menus because the ingredients were amazingly fresh and possibly tailored to the season.

Highly recommend:
- heritage carrots
- lamb skewers
- pork belly
- nectarine salad

It was so lovely to graze with family and friends and watch the sunset. Can't wait to go back !!
The Dear Luncher
This was The Dear Luncher’s debut visit to the plush and elegant Prince Dining Room. It will not be the last visit, let’s make that clear from the outset.

As this occasion was a special one, and because it was a large group – “The Big Feast” for a reasonable sum of $75 per head was selected. This banquet option involves 4 separate courses and it spreads itself across many different dish types. Almost as much variety as Netflix. Almost.

There wasn’t a single item that could be faulted, in any way whatsoever. Let’s begin by discussing the Kingfish crudo (with olive oil and lime pickle). The Dear Luncher does not normally eat lots of raw fish, but this is very often a great way to kick off proceedings. Delicious, light ant tangy palate cleansing opener.

Hummus and wood oven pita bread – right up there with some of the greatest examples of both hommus and bread ever sampled. Warm, soft, fluffy bread. The hommus was populated with crunchy chick peas, outstanding.

There were various courses served thereafter including “Zucchini, blistered tomatoes, ashed goats cheese flatbread”, “smoked yoghurt with flatbreads” and a “5 grain tabbouleh”. However, the highlight for The Dear Luncher was the Moroccan tagine of Flinders Island Lamb shoulder (with prunes and sesame). Mouth-watering. Divine. Annoyingly, some people can't pronounce tagine. Some people insist on saying "tangine". Highly annoying.

Greywacke ‘Wild Ferment’ Sauvignon Blanc was the wine selected by Your Dear Luncher during the course of the evening and there were several bottles of this downed, along with many others.

A great venue all round, outstanding service, top notch grub and a really great setting for a big group.

4.5/5.

My actual rating is 3.5 but it’s not letting me rate that on here.

Newly renovated, it’s a lovely space. Sophisticated but relaxed and you’re greeted by friendly waiters as you walk in. Lots of different dining areas as well and can imagine it pumping once it properly gets up and running.

You can tell it’s only been open for a few weeks so have definitely kept this in mind whilst they are ironing out teething issues.

I’ll start with the highlights. As mentioned, beautiful space with a relaxed atmosphere and very friendly service from everyone. We ordered quite a few dishes (hummus, kingfish, carrots, beetroot, cabbage, lettuce, lamb and snapper) and the waiter actually suggested we take off one of the mains which I thought was a nice gesture. I also asked for a sweeter white wine and the waiter suggested the Adelaide Hills one and it was spot on. For the food we loved the carrot dish, the beetroot was nice and I personally liked the cabbage with shrimp butter although my partner wasn’t a fan. The snapper was beautifully cooked as well.

However there were a few issues such as not being given a full wine list with the menu which we did question each other at the beginning so we just ordered a glass of wine each but then asked to see the menu again we were given the actual wine menu with bottles on it. Had we been given this whilst we sat down we would have definitely ordered a bottle since the wine menu looked decent. Additionally when the waiter asked my partner what wine he wanted next, he then looked at me and I said I would try some of my partners wine before I chose another. However he then proceeded to take my wine glass away which wasn’t finished yet. Probably a communication issue.. but it’s strange to take away a wine glass that hasn’t been finished yet.

Service for wine to come out was very quick however food service was incredibly slow. Even though there was a pair in front of us that were seated later than us but they had their dishes coming out quite quickly in probably 20 min intervals whereas ours took at least 30-40 min to come out.

As for the food, we were very disappointed with the lettuce dish. All the other 3 vegetable dishes we got were good but the lettuce dish which we got recommended was very basic. It was literally a pile of lettuce with a basic sauce and was quite expensive what it was compared to the other dishes in the vegetable section. Whilst the snapper was beautifully cooked the sauce that came with it tasted like it had way tooo much lemon in it. I love lemon but that was way overpowering and not balanced at all.

As mentioned I know it’s just opened so I am aware of that and would come back but perhaps in a few months time once everything is up and running :) another great addition to the St Kilda precinct.
