Review Baba Lovey - St Kilda

Tobi-wan
BaBa Lovey provides outstanding service from the staff, a decent amount of menu items including vegetarian/vegan friendly choices. an outstanding line up of deals based on certain times of the day. for those dining in, relaxing sounds. the interior designs brings the theme of kids cubby house and grown up wonderland offering a pleasant experience all round. menu items price range from $5 - $25 (the max price) if you have time and want to steer away from the Aclanf Village/Fitzroy St tourist spots and trade in for a Balaclava locale feel, come here. you won't be disappointed. 😀

Great thai option if youre in the area. Portion is generous while prices are affordable. Service is good. Food would take some time to arrive during the lunch time crowd, best to go slightly earlier or after.

Lovely lunch place that I would definitely come again. Love their pad thai and soy latte. Staff is also very welcome.

Very quiet and pleasant place for a relaxing coffee and read some book .. they do nice coffee
Friendly Traveller
*****Sadly the cafe is now closed***** I drop in here when passing through St Kilda, opposite the Port Phillip Town Hall. Great place for a snack or lunch. Terrific Asian/Aussie menu but most things are available if you ask. Prices are reasonable. Love the young fella who makes the coffee..... always smiling. Keep up the good work.

Great coffee at a good temperature (can’t bear a lukewarm coffee!) and friendly staff, always! Stopped in for lunch today and the fried flat rice noodles were delicious! Lucky to have this place as my local!

Eat. Sleep. Create. Repeat.
Zee the new cafe owner loves his coffee. Very interesting chat how he learn from knowing little about coffee to be now a self taught expert and mixing different beans together experimenting giving customers different experience. Have a chat with Zee and you will get some special experimental coffees.

Enjoyable food in a warm, cozy atmosphere. The green curry was very fragrant. I am quite picky when it comes to Pad Thai, so Baba Lovey's one didn't quite hit the mark for me as it didn't have that tamarind flavour I was looking for, but it was still tasty nonetheless. Staff were lovely and attentive.

The green curry i have had in this restaurant is really amazed me. It was really good and better than many other restaurants I have had. I highly suggest to have a green curry.

I have been here a few times and tried their white and black coffee. Never let me down once! Thai salad and pad Thai would be nice choices for lunch!

I liked the food of their family recently. The price is very high. oh ~ Strong recommendation ~ Located near these office buildings, it is definitely the best choice for office workers. The main menu is Thai-style dishes, and they like the fried rice noodles of their family. The curry chicken rice is full of ingredients and is a bit spicy. It tastes good. They also have coffee and desserts, coffee is very fragrant, friends go with a cup of coffee every time, quite a choice of a restaurant, the focus is the boss attitude is super beautiful, attitude full score ~

The pad in this Thai restaurant is amazing. I have been to lots of Thai restaurant, but the taste of padthai in this is just outstanding. Btw, I also enjoyed its coffee because its strength is just met what I want.

I was here for some quickly cooked and served Asian style greens. The cafe met the brief very well. The dish was extremely tasty with just the right amount of kick and it was just the right size as well. Service was quick, polite and respectful. It’s a curiously designed and laid out little place but it works.

I think the Tom yum and pad Thai are very well done and tasty. They are very close to the ones I had at Thailand. The coffee bean are very strong taste, but I like the strength of it.

Hands down one of the worst meals I've had in a long time. The Thai curry was super watery, the vegetables were soggy and seemed old and the chicken had a weird chewy texture. Couldn't finish my meal and will definitely not be back. The meals are cheap- 10$ for a lunch dish so I guess the skimp on quality.

The ambience is friendly and relaxed. Coffee was like eating sand. Astringent and probably old as it comes from Italy. The barista is really good, so I might have to blame the coffee for it

I don't understand the negative reviews?! This place is awesome! Very yummy Thai food with very cheap prices! Highly recommend the yellow chicken curry with roti for lunch, only $10! Range of teas available as well which is great, I had the peppermint green tea and they give you a full teapot that fills multiple cups!
Service was fast, efficient and friendly. Music is great and the place has a warm, relaxed atmosphere. Will be back!

Close to my office, serves up a quick, cheap and flavorsome plate of yum every time! Cosy set up and nice service. Prawn tom yum is spot on, just make sure you like your food spicy!

Nice location on Carlisle St, pleasant service, apparently sexist servings. No, really, I'm not kidding.

Lovely. Great lunch spot. Good coffee and choice of Asian meals. The beef with noodle soup is yum. Very affordable. Thanks.

Delicious breakfast menu! On awaiting our order I was worried as to weather our venue was choice! On arrival of the food my worries dispersed! My "tuk tuk" breakfast was delicious, everything I had hoped and only $8. My partners buttermilk pancakes were Devine fluffy with all the trimmings just $10.00! The place could use with a face lift and a bit more life but the food was good and that's really what counts.

Coffee & Hot Chocolate Regular. Now im not one to get a hot chokkie everday due to the caleries but my goodness, for the $4 you pay you get a massive cuppa. Unlike some of the other cafes in the area that charge an arm and a leg for a mini cup of coffee or hot coco.

Seriously, if its freezing outside and you need a little pick me up of hot coco as you drive past or walking. Stop in, owners are friendly.

Only downside is i wasnt a fan of the coffee, not enough 'oomph'.

Tai food is also delish, great tasting and love the little old broad in the back cooking away the food. I recommend the 'to-go' pad tai. $8 bucks in a huge bowls and its enough for lunch and dinner and it packs a punch of tastyness.

No other flaws i can see :) give it a try.

Check out the Thai food! Brilliant! My suggestion is - go and get their Thai food, but go elsewhere for coffee...
Lucy
Average coffee, but the food is tasty and full of flavour. Pretty cheap at $8-12 a plate but you'll need to order more as portions are tiny.

Great wee spot ,with a smashing variety of food, from mexican wrap to green curry, super tasty and good coffee to boot

Identify crisis w hit and miss food. Had lunch here today - and the first impression was ....hmmm. I was struck by the contradictions of the place. Firstly, some nice interior wall design and wooden benches gave the place a warm, contemporary feel. However, this was soiled by the general air of untidiness about the place (old papers in a pile in the corner).

The second contradiction was the menu. The menus is a mix of Thai/Indian cuisine, matched with some odd menu items like a mexican wrap and chicken burger. Standard cafe style fare was also offered such as (of course) coffee, tea and biscuits.

In term of food quality, my basil chicken stir-fry was not great - the vegetables seemed old/under-cooked, although the chicken was actually very tasty and the serving sizes were good. My friend had a chili beef dish which was very tasty and hot - but again the standard of vegetables let it down. It was served with (wait for it) a sprinkling of under-cooked cabbage.

Baba Louey did have a good range of teas and cold drinks. I had tea - served in a very cute tea pot - generous serve for the price.

Despite some good things about this place, given its proximity other well-established cafes (and also the reliable, cheap and cheerful Cica Chinese), I don't think I'll be back again in a hurry.

Service was so-so - the waitress appeared generally uninterested.

Simple quick lunch/breakfast. Great coffee. "chips were ah-maze-ing"

Fantastic. Best Thai I've had in melbourne...sooohappy to have found it...and excellent service!!,

Breakfast. Not good. Went for breakfast and instantly struck by the drab interior. No effort has gone into this place at all. Food was hit and miss. 'Her' order was apparently good. My 'Baba Louey Eggs' would have been okay if served ten minutes earlier when ready. All items were cold, and the sourdough was like cut glass. Coffee was overpriced although may have been better value take-away.

Service is friendly and patient, but i dont care. Too many good places in the hood for this.

Just like the real thing (or close enough to, in any case)! We had dinner here: som thum with crab- nicely spicy; larb gai- fresh and tasty; sticky rice and beers. Delicious food and very friendly, attentive service. Not sure what it is like in the daytime but am glad we finally made it for dinner. And all for under $50 for two We'll be back for sure. : )

Delicious Thai Dinner. Went to dinner here on a whim and was pleasantly surprised at the friendly service, & delicious food. Had a seafood dish and the spicy beef and both were fresh, flavorsome and the perfect portions. Will definitely be back for dinner and take-away!

Better Alternatives. Just popped in for a coffee, won't be going back despite the nice friendly service. The coffee was poor.

Like Baba Louey~. Quite friendly staff though most of them are not locals.
Dame good coffee and food.
The meau is interesting(east meats west).
Try the tuk tuk breakfast and green curry there, yummy~~
Pretty reasonably price.
I will definitely visite there again.

Not Recommended. Busy cafe on Carlisle St. Service was fairly slow and temperature of room was freezing. Coffees were much too hot and burnt- terrible! My partner's Baba Louey eggs were quite tasty, but my pancakes were burnt on the bottom and raw on the inside- actually still gooey and battery! Service was rather sloppy e.g. cutlery slapped down with knives and forks crossed over how they fell. Staff were nice enough but some seemed to have a poor grasp on English and could not understand what a customer wanted to order unless it was pointed out on the menu. Overall, an interesting looking menu and quite reasonably priced. But not worth a visit with so many other good options in the area!

Marked off our list :-(. This used to be one of our favorites
new owner killed the atmosphere and fired the brilliant staff
very sad :-(

New owners and menu. The new menu with an east meets west theme is great.

The healthy version of baked beans was great for a cold winter lunch.

Try the Vietnamese omelette, chicken curry or coconut chicken - all good value and great lunch time options.

Strong recommend
