Enjoyed this cake shop visit on Acland St. There were sooo many options to choose from and we had an apple crumble and a Ferrero Rocher slice.
Both were delicious, especially the Ferrero Rocher which was a great chocolate kick for the afternoon.
The apple crumble was slighted warmed and I loved it!
When you want to dig in a wholesome chocolate cake, the mud cake is an excellent choice. Picked up the mud cake slice from the Europa Bakery. They have amazing variety of cakes and pastries.
We had the Vanilla Cannelloni with fruits which was good but I had expected fruits inside as well. and the Passion Fruit chili macaron. Lovedddd the macaron.
The staff was sweet.
Delicious bakery. The raspberry danish was out of this world tasty. The coffee (long black and flat white) were reasonably sized and well made. Definitely would return in a heart beat.
taste not good and don’t know why so many people to here. Ordered chocolate cheese cake, turns out its a chocolate orange cheese cake.... 😑
So I came here two days ago and must say it looks pretty adorable and had so much variety with all the cakes and desserts displayed. Also customer service was excellent and nothing to complain about. Only downfall is that its quite pricey. I paid for a carrot cake which wasn't so big for $6.80 and same for the red velvet cake. Foods delicious and would come again another time.
Popped into Europa cakes on Saturday to grab a takeaway cake for a afternoon tea on Sunday. Their vanilla slice was very good and the best I've tasted from the cakes shops in St Kilda. Cakes aren't cheap here but worth paying for the vanilla slice. I've been caught out buying great looking cakes that have tasted average down this strip so I stick with the tried and true.
Europa Cake Shop is one of Acland Streets famous Cake stores in Saint Kilda. After trying all of Acland Streets Cake stores Europa is by far our favourite. Europa has a huge variety of sweets, bigger than the other stores on Acland Street and their desserts also taste the freshest! The staff are very friendly and take heaps of care when packaging up your delicate desserts to take away. All the desserts are so fresh and delicious. However, the Plum Filled Jam Doughnut was lacking the bursting jam in the middle though which was a bit disappointing!
TIP: Do try the Chocolate Coated Pistachio Baklava! Don't forget to order a Cherry Cheesecake or fresh fruit tarts.
I only visit St Kilda a few times a year but I'm amazed how often cafes come and go. Nice to see this cake shop sticking around for many years. So many cakes! I recommend going inside as it's like stepping back in time.
DO: The Chocolate Eclair. It's the largest we've ever seen.
DON'T: Order first. Get a table outside and then order a few items to share next.
TIP: There are 4 cake shops on Acland. Purchase one here and move on. Cake Degaustation is bad said no one ever.
The Swine thinks this could well be the choice cakery in Acland Street St Kilda. While other shops have the colour and sheer mass of cake selection, Europa appear to also have the quality. The Swine thinks they smash the vanila slice battle and the coffee isn't as dire as some of the dish water served up at a few of the other cake shop places on Acland.
This is my last review on Zoamato. I am frustrated with all its glitches and technical issues.
Europa is a marvellous cake shop that has been in Acland St for years - ever since I started going there in the mid-80s.
It's Mittel Europa in Melbourne with its Polish/Jewish/Central European cakes.
My favourite has always been the poppyssed cake with its raisins and rum infusion.
The coffee is nothing special, but it's the cakes that make it worthwhile.
Ciao....
Oh wow. What an amazing choice of cakes, slices, chocolates, donuts, danishes, pastries, rumballs, desserts and coffee. Eat in or take away. I can never just buy one item but end up getting several delicacies. Mmmmmmmm delicious!

In one word: Custardy.
Europa Cakes was my last vanilla slice from the 'Big Four' cake shops on Acland Street, and arguably the best on the street. Notably the portion size and freshness of the ingredients were the highlight here. The custard was just that; custard. It was creamy, full of vanilla extract and a lovely smooth texture, with a hint of egg. The pastry was delicately crisp, coated slightly with white chocolate to ensure the pastry doesn't absorb the moisture of the custard - a first on my travels. A generous dusting of icing sugar was just enough to ensure the correct sweetness against the pastry. An altogether lovely slice from start to finish.
4 x cakes pieces = $28, if you're looking for cheaply made desserts do not bother with Europa, however, by simply window shopping the bakery you know that cheap will not exactly apply here.
The poppy cheese cake was by far my favourite, I'm a sucker for anything poppyseed so it was a win win - the freshly baked cheese cake mixed perfectly with the poppy with the subtle blend of alcohol (rum perhaps?) and fruit. The two flavours worked perfectly together and made for a fantastic combination.
The mud cake was what you would expect, rich, dense, flavoursome and simple - though when it comes to the mud, it is my opinion that this is what you should expect!
The fruit tart was delicious, however, out of the 4 it seemed to be the most 'standard' of the lot - still great!
The blueberry custard Danish was the best Danish I've ever eaten, the pastry was perfectly prepared and the berries fresh with not one tasting 'off' - consistency and flavour'
Europa Cake Shop - St. Kilda, Melbourne. If you have any desire to go on a strict diet or to curb sweets somehow, the plain old advice would be to simply not to go around this area of town at all. In fact, just walk to the other side of the road or better yet, avoid this stretch of Acland street altogether. This is the gastronomical equivalent for window shopping with several types of cake shops selling various lots of sweets and even coffee is temptation so overcomes the temperance.
Let's say though, that you stop and glance at one of the various shopfronts, it houses all sorts of freshly made, home-style sweets which has a massive range that ought to appeal to at least one sort of taste in each person. Whichever one you choose, it could well be a Roman version of a Parisan-style bakery. Since this review is on the page for "Europa Cake Shop", obviously the choice was here.
Staying in a flat a few streets away, I went exploring with my parents one day in the nearby Acland Street area. Aside from the several cake shops, there is plenty more to choose from and is a foodie's haven. The size of the place will vary, but somehow there will always be a few tables to sit at at the very least - Europa is like that. The three of us stopped in and thought to get a variety of pastries to share for the next couple of morning's breakfasts - an easy option, and the apartment had accommodated for a coffee plunger which made the second part a lot easier.
It has already been mentioned about the sheer variety of options here, and it is modest compared to one of its neighbours. I mostly stayed out of it, allowing my parents to make the decision. They were all to happy to, and were even discussing what to get making sure that there was variety in the selection. Ultimately the selection of items was one each of chocolate canolli, blueberry danish, mixed berry cheesecake, mille feuille, fruit and nut slice, macadamia tart and poppyseed roll. The only one that I did not end up trying was the poppyseed roll. My only fuss is somehow I missed out on coffee here; next time as always.
Service there was really good, quick and lovely. It is all you would want in a cake shop, simplicity at its finest.
From what I had though, each one was delicious and well-sized. It was able to be divided between four people (plus a baby) to get a sample taste of it all. They weren't all done at once, mind you. The best one was the chocolate canolli, with a dark chocolate center and crunchy, buttery pasty. Danishes are often a great choice from a bakery, and this time around was no exception particularly with an abundant amount of fresh blueberries on top. Cheesecake is nice as well, with a mixture of berries helping mix up the textures and flavours some more. Millefeuille has always been a great favourite, and there was a bit of twist on the classic pastry with some berry mixture on top; as always, rich and creamy with an abundant amount of custard in the middle. Then the macadamia tart, with the distinct flavour and aroma of the bush food, was a pleasant entry finishing it all off with the fruit and nut tart adding some degree of freshness to it all.
Again, as there is no shortage of great cake shops around the area it will definitely be worth coming back down some time in the future. One of the benefits of the quantity of options is that each time something else can be ordered, and new items will constantly be popping up. Europa Cake Shop is absolutely worth trying.
This is a nice cake shop to go to if you are served by the right person, most of the girls are nice and only one or two of them know how to make coffee, the difference in skill and service greatly differs here, I was once served by an angry older woman who didnt seem to have much time for her customers.
Delicious cakes! Pleasant, friendly staff who go the extra mile for you! I tried the Vanilla slice and it is definitely the best on Acland street! I will definitely come here again.
There’s not a huge variety, but they do have a large selection of gluten free macaroons and some gluten free cakes to choose from.
