Review Sparrows Philly Cheesestreak - St Kilda

Harold Yap
Having lived in the US before, I can confirm that the Philly Cheese Steak here is legit AF and easily the best I've had in Australia. This is the real deal. The Buffalo Wings are up there too, as the sauce tastes right (unlike most places that think it's just fried chicken). Highly recommended and will definitely be back!

Amazing cheesestake loved the flavour I highly recommend adding tomato sauce to make it complete. I ordered the regular cheesestake. Bit on the expensive side and if there was some complementary fries šŸŸ it would be worth the price. Overall a great experience. Will be back to try out the rest of the menu.

Recommend coming in on Mondays for the cheaper cheesesteaks and wednesdays for the 50c wings! Paid $7.50 for 15 fantastic buffalo wings today!

Its a nice and cosy! Staff are friendly and welcoming! The sandwich and fries were okay, could be better! Overall 8/10 and will be back

Been here a number of times and the philly cheesesteak never fails to impress. The live music out the front doesn't hurt.

Waited 40 mins for takeaway. Buffalo wings are good, cheesesteak is bland and dry. The pepper cheesesteak was missing jalapeƱo, and pizza cheesesteak was missing provolone cheese.

The best and only good Philly cheesesteak in Melbourne. šŸ™ŒšŸ½ Missing American food since Iā€™ve moved here and this has been my go to place. Iā€™ve made all my friends try it and the love it! No frills just goodness.

Lots of cheese steaks to choose from.. love the classic with extra jalapenos..

Honesty the food looks really good, but itā€™s not the greatest tasting food. The chicken wings were okay, flavour wasnā€™t that great either. The chips though were SO SO SO salty... so unless you like super salty chips, get another side

worst experience ever. spent 17 dollar on this chilli bowl. only had 6 pieces of corn chips with a plate of beans. They also forgot the bacon. When i asked them why its only 6 pieces of chip
s with a big plate of red beans. The waiter was so arrogant replied me. there is no quantity requirment. so they can offer whatever they feel reasonable.17 dollar for 6 pieces of corn chips and be lated bacon. they r joking me

Don't go here if you have allergies or intolerances. I ordered the philly cheesesteak via deliveroo on a gluten free bun and thought it didn't taste like a gluten free bun but thought that maybe they'd improved their buns. Got sick later and realised they'd just charged me for a gluten free bun and given me a regular bun. They don't seem to have any feedback method other than here so I'm just letting people with allergies and intolerances know that they don't care.

#OMG
If your looking for one of Melbourne best philly cheese steaks then look no further because Sparrow's Philly Cheesesteaks are where it's at! Was greeted by a very nice gentleman, the steak was juicy and cooked to perfection, the fries were hot and fresh and they take there time to make sure they perfect your food. Bread was delicious as well on the outside and was soft so you didn't feel like you were biting into a rock! 10/10! If your craving Philly Cheesesteaks you know where to go šŸ˜‰

First time and won't be the last.
Ordered the pizza steak and the sweet pepper steak with fries.

Both tasty but my fav was the sweet pepper steak...yummo! Chips were lovely as well.

Only small neg this place was not very comfy..a little eat and go type of place but maybe that's the point.

Will def be back but prob take away.

First of all the server had an attitude like I was disturbing his time he could be checking out Grindr. When I started eating my food, which was prepared quite promptly, the 'pizza steak' had no flavour, and my lips were burning from the way-over salted fries. Bad service and bad food, I won't waste my money there again.

Love it! Got here just as they were opening so plenty of seats available in this smallish space. So tasty, many mixed reviews but Iā€™m a fan of this place. The rolls are soft and the steak is full of flavour, thereā€™s a choice of different cheeses which are all gooey and tasty. The chips are crispy and they have best bbq sauce (sweet baby rays) the crispy chicken isnā€™t the best Iā€™ve had but itā€™s ok, Iā€™ll stick to just the cheesesteaks in the future.

Went in on a Sat lunch with some mates, I had the deluxe bourbon bacon steak. The steak was perfectly cooked, with tasty bacon and onions. I would definitely order this one again.

Sides are a must here as a cheesesteak on its own won't really fill you up. The good news is the sides (chips/onion rings) are generously portioned and really good.

Only negative might be the price considering the size of these cheesesteaks hence the need for sides

Overall, a great place and worth checking out.

Below average food to be honest. We ordered a mushroom philly which was plain meat and cheese in Woolworths bread. The philly was severely lacking in flavour and just tasted of cheese sauce. We also ordered sparrows fried chicken - the chicken inside was decent but the fried crumb tasted stale and old. The onion rings were the best thing we had and lucky we ordered them because we almost didnā€™t. The staff were kind but we wonā€™t be going back. Sorry... we really wanted to enjoy it.

Great place for a sloppy, cheesy sandwich. Personal favorite is the sandy with sweet peppers. Wings are alright. On Mondays they have cheese steaks + fries for 10$ šŸ‘šŸ»

*UberEATS review* Sorry guys but this was baaaad! I literally just ordered the standard cheesesteak and fries. The cheesesteak was literally so buttery, yet so bland, all I could taste was the oily bread and the liquidy cheese... couldn't taste anything else! The fries were boring, nothing special at all. I'm so sorry but I just couldn't have this ever again :-(

Had been eyeing these guys off on uber eats for a while and finally ordered, best decision ever! The vegetarian option tasted meaty and the tofu was done amazingly which is unexpected from a business that's all about steak! Rich with flavour and the cheese has the most amazing texture, I was thoroughly impressed! Delivery via Uber Eats was under 20 minutes from the time placing the order which is equally impressive!

I thought I was just gonna get some roll. Turns out, beef was excellent, mushrooms added a nice taste, and the melted cheese was the cherry on top.

I always enjoyed French fries, their's were no different.

And lastly, their fried chicken was a real treat. Classic southern aroma, bite size pieces of juicy thighs all coated with a crunchy coat.

I'd come back just to entertain their Philly steak bowl.

Ratio decidendi: Genius in simplicity.Ā Grilled beef, cheese & onions in a ā€˜hoagieā€™ roll. Succulent A-grade scotch fillet thatā€™s been sliced and grilled on site is very much the star of the show, perfectly complemented by (your choice of) the imported American or provolene cheese that melds it all together with onions between an inexplicably soft bread roll.

Ordered through uber eats, service was prompt. Extremely decadent and admittedly delicious cheesesteak with bourbon bacon and mountains of cheese, and a side of fries. Don't expect to walk away after eating one of these feeling good.

If you know what a cheesesteak is, you'll like it.
I'm confused by the low rating, having read the negative reviews I feel certain they are from people who don't understand the cheez whizzed (plastic American cheese), thin meated, fluffy bunned goodness of a filthy cheesesteak.
This is not fine dining. But this is cheesesteak!!
For those that know what I mean; they're more like Sonny's or Pat's than Jim's.

Love this place! Been here twice with my husband and kids and both times the philly steaks were perfect. The steak with the cheese in the soft bun are so delicious. And the onion rings are so good too. Only problem is one Philly cheesesteak is not enough so we always order heaps of sides and wish they had better indoor seating.

Just went for the first time. Ordered it fresh as I live around the corner... what a rip off. Don't bother going there!! I bought the mushroom Philly steak and pretzel which was ready in less than 5 minutes but it's not even worth waiting 5 minutes for. The sandwich had hardly anything in it, the meat was tiny shredded and tasted cheese. It was just a small cheap roll with a bit of warm meat. The pretzel was ok but it was deep fried which I personally find disgusting. If expected it to be baked but maybe that's my own fault in assuming bread would be baked.

Better off eating at coles

Came here today with my sister. We shared the Vegetarian Cheesesteak and some chips. The chips were nice and crispy and well salted. The vegetarian cheesesteak was okay- it tasted a bit like a vegetarian pizza in a roll but I didn't like the cheese. It was very plasticky and stuck to the roof of my mouth. It might be the traditional way to do it, but I personally found it unpleasant.

The food here is a massive rip off....the rolls are tiny and not even filled up. The vegan option was mediocre at best, but the biggest disappointment was the size it's nothing like the photos. Also their chips aren't great and under fried. Avoid.

From the owners of Sparrows Philly Cheesesteaks in The Catfish in Fitzroy they have opened Sparrows on St Kilda Road in the SE. We've been here twice now (see photos) and the food here is as good as the Fitzroy venue, the Cheesesteaks are divine! This time we had the Mushroom, Sweet Pepper and Hot Pepper (my mate ordered double meat in the hot pepper and loved it), along with this we had the pretzel, fries and fried chicken. The quality of meat with the melted cheese is incredible, now from the other reviews I cannot for the life of me understand a low rating for this place - I repeat I've been here twice now and it's quality. I'm thinking some food doesn't 'travel well' with UberEATS and a Philly Cheesesteak is probably not the thing to expect to travel well in a delivery. If you go to the US which is the home of the Cheesesteak you don't see people taking them away, you smash it down at the venue and continue on. I think it's a bit rough to say the food is poor when you have ordered it to be delivered by Uber. Go in, sit down and enjoy it like it deserves to be eaten. Don't be a pussy.

Ordered through uber eats and got the wrong order... then theyve tried to handball the blame and not offer to correct it.

Cheesesteaks were trash. Give me some doner kebab meat, cracker barrell cheese and a 60c white roll from Woolies and id whip up a better cheesesteak.

Ordered via UberEats tonight and absolutely awful- what a waste of money! Crispy chicken not crispy but mushy and batter so thinly coated barely covered the chicken. Blood spots in the chicken meat. Roll is nothing special could have made it at home! Both chicken wing orders - original and sweet barbecue wings terribly plain ! The 1 star goes to the Uber Driver for prompt service.

Update: Hubby calls to let them know how rubbish the food was. Person who answered blames it on Uber driver (who was very quick to get here) and asks us to call Uber to get a refund. What a joke-if that's how they take feedback they won't go very far!

So decided to try this place out as I've seen it driving past a few times decided on the hoagie Philly cheese steak then I was told I couldn't get it as they had no lettuce..cmon guys aldi is about 300m away to quickly go and grab some lettuce!!!so I ended up ordering the sweet pepper cheese steak and my girlfriend got the mushroom one with a side of fries waited about 15 mins which is ok.. my sweet pepper one was pretty nice lots of melted cheese and steak was good my girlfriends one the cheese wasn't melted which was a bit strange?? Fries were ok but couldn't taste any salt on them which fries have to have salt otherwise they just taste really plain overall it was ok but nothing to write home about.
