Cute place, not a huge selection of breads but the person behind the counter was super helpful. We got some bread rolls for lunch but next time I really wanted to get their cheesecake. Yum yum
This is the best bakery in Melbourne! Their sourdough is just perfection! Not only breads, but also cookies and cakes... every time I go there, I buy more than what I need, I can’t help myself!
This cute little bakery is an absolute hidden gem here in Melbourne. Whether you buy bread, cookies or croissants or whatever else they have on offer, it’s absolutely delicious. Completely unpretentious. Just skilled bakers making an excellent product at a reasonable price.
Come here most weekends to grab a sourdough and croissant. One of the few places in Melbourne where i can just smash half the loaf on its own just with some butter. Lovely bakery and lady that runs it is always friendly. Seems to be getting busier every week so maybe try and get in early before they sell out.
The most delicious unusual twist on olive bread, which is more like a twisted croissant style flaky pastry with olives. Comes in two sizes and guaranteed to impress your friends. Havent' come across this anywhere else and it's the best thing around. The seeded loaf is so beautiful and crusty you could just eat it without adding anything. Just break and nom! Enjoy :)
Yeah like everyone keeps saying, this place has the best bread in Melbourne. Probably just a matter of time before you will need to line up out the door at here. White sourdough and olive sourdough are my favourites.
Sourdough, panini, oat and date bar都特别好吃,cheesecake是比较实在比较硬的那种,路过的时候打包几个面包回家很棒!
get BAGUETTE with your meal of the night, or with good butter. Get FIVE FRUITS SOURDOUGH for your toast, on its own. Get DATES & OATS SLICE for an afternoon tea. OMG. Such a hidden little place for the neighbourhood. Will come back and say hi to the asian lady again.
I am French, so I have ridiculously high standards when it comes to bread. I find that 95% of the bread sold in Australia is pure rubbish, especially supermarket bread (rant over).
Anyway, the bread at Baker's Larder is the real thing, it's awesome, it doesn't go hard or mouldy in a few days.
The croissants and pains au chocolat (chocoloate croissants) are spot on as well, and taste like they have been teletransported from France. Finding real croissants is also hard man.
Best Sourdough bread in Melbourne!
I am an avid fan of Sourdough bread, and had walked past this shop a few weeks ago. Decided to pop in this morning to grab a loaf of Sourdough & it blew my socks off! The crusty edges, the perfectly super sour flavour & the slightly chewy soft centre is what dreams are made of!
I bought a hot cross bun for my boyfriend, and it's also one of the best I've tried (I've eaten Baker D. Chirico, Dench hot cross buns & its way better).
The bakery is really small, the decor is simple & natural. The service is lovely.
Never given a 5 star rating before but this deserves it!
Omg best bread ever!!! You have to try! Even the cheap plain Turkish bread ($1.25) tastes so good!! 😋😋😋.
Great bakery, but how does it survive?. Baker's Larder is a place that makes me scratch my head and wonder "What is this doing HERE, and how does it survive?" Not that it shouldn't. This is a quality artisanal bread and pastry shop. You can tell the care that has gone into the breads just by looking at the hand-made appearance of them and the styles that are on offer. I bought a couple of sweet pastries and they were top-notch too. I rate Baker's Larder as being every bit as good as D. Chiricco or Il Fornaio in terms of St. Kilda bakeries. Which is why I'm puzzled -- how does an excellent place like this land on a stretch of street where there's not a lot of foot traffic, the auto traffic is zipping by at 60+ kph, and parking is problematical? It's a small shop, too, so it's not like they get heaps of people coming in to make a lunch of it. Baker's Larder deserves to be on Fitzroy -- either the main street through St. Kilda or the funky suburb on the north end of town where there are stacks of folks who would support a fine bake shop like this.

Pain Au Chocolat. It's hard to get super-excited about any particular pain au chocolat (or chocolate croissant as they call it here in deference to English-speaking Francophobes.) The good ones are pretty much like each other; only the horrid ones stand out in my memory. Baker's Larder makes a good chocroissant. It was buttery-tasting, the pastry was light and flaky, and best of all, the chocolate inside did not get all runny when I gently reheated it in my toaster oven to have with coffee at home. That tells me they use high-quality chocolate. But as far as whether it's the best I ever had, I'd just say it ranks up there with all the other quality pains.

Peanut/Chocolate Bar. I'm a sucker for anything with nuts, even peanuts, so I had to order this when I was picking up some breakfast pastries at Baker's Larder. I don't see confections like this every day. The peanut layer was thick, and they were still crunchy in their caramel sauce. It wasn't hard enough to be like brittle, but it wasn't so wet that it gooped up my fingers eating it. Thre was also a nice crunch to the chocolate base, which had a texture of something between a biscuit and praline. It was hard to ell how big the final slice would be, because the sheet of this stuff had no visible lines delineating the segments. It turned out to be narrower than I wanted (I'd have gladly eaten the entire pan) but for $2.50 it was a fair deal.
Yes. Great chewy bread. Love the casalinga! The twists are really delicious too
I am in love with their Oats and Dates cake. Very subtle sweet dates taste surrounded by the crunchy, yet very tasty oats.
Amazing breads!!! Best bakery in Melbourne
Best bread ever!. After discovering that there seems to be an ingredient in commercial bread that disagrees with me and makes me quite ill, it was a delight to discover that the bread from Baker's Larder is free of nasties. Wonderful flavour and texture. It's a real indulgence for me. Well done to Baker's Larder.
Amazing little bakery. Bread is made daily. We have tried Fig and ginger sourdough, Apricot and walnut sourdough and the Rosemary and olive twist and the mini donuts all were fresh and delicious. If your in the StKilda area definitely recommend stopping in to try.
They just need to get a little coffee machine and it would be perfect! :)
When I saw it I couldn't believe it that I found bakery just around the corner from my house . Every bread I tried was amazing now I'm buying bread, rolls etc. all the time good on you guys :-)I'm recommending to everyone
Highly recommended!. I live near this place but only visited for the first time today. I wish I'd done so sooner!
I bought some orange and almond cake to take to a friend's place for morning tea, and it was delicious.
I also got a small Turkish bread that I thought might go well with dinner. When I got home in the afternoon I sliced a bit off the end to try it. I had to stop myself from eating the whole thing, it was so good.
Now I can't wait to try some of the other beautiful looking breads they bake, and maybe some more cake too... :)
Excellent quality bread, love the baguettes, Turkish rolls, olive bread and fruit loaf. Definitely a hidden gem given its unusual location but worth the trip. I'll definitely continue supporting this great bakery!
Great new bakery specialising in sourdough. Heaps of enticing choices: olive, walnut, fig etc Realistic prices too- $4-ish for olive bread, not $8! Given the strange location of this place, I hope the business does well. I love finding new places; a definite winner!
Bread delights and surprises. Walking along St Kilda Road I was surprised to see a tiny bakery with an enticing dlsplay of breads in the window. I've been in a couple of times now and have tried the olive and rosemary twist and the fig and ginger sourdough. The texture of the bread is very good indeed. There is a satisfying crunch and lots of chew, but it's so soft and light. The flavoured sour dough loaves have big, bold flavours as they are filled with pieces of fig, ginger, olive, rosemary or apricot and nuts.
Give This a Go!. We live in the East St Kilda neighbourhood and were thrilled to find this artisan bakery open up on St KIlda Road just before the Alma road intersection (heading away from the city). It is not in an obvious group of shops but well worth hunting out. It is run by a gorgeous husband and wife team - she bakes delicious cakes and he bakes amazing breads (the variety is fantastic - I had a fig and walnut sourdough and olive baguette. We get a daily loaf of sourdough too and my boys go through it by lunchtime! They have a very young family and work so hard at producing rock star bread without the rock star attitude or prices and pull it off brilliantly.
