A great range of flavours from this little ice cream shop. Creamy texture and flavoursome. Wasn't too busy when we went either so the service was fast.
Verdict: Looking for the best quality gelato in St. Kilda? You found it. Looking for the most affordable? Head across the street to Seven Apples.
Try as they may, Southern California can't quite seem to get gelato right, and when they do, it's so expensive that settling for Frozen Yogurt becomes the only viable option. Want to know who does get gelato right? Australia, and Scoops is the only place where they dish up the authentic bit.
Star 1: How was the service and atmosphere?
While not much more than a counter, Scoops makes up for their simplistic approach with top class service. You're virtually free to try any and every flavor you wish, and you'll be served with a smile. Star Granted.
Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost?
If you haven't quite sorted it yet, Australia is expensive, especially if you're coming from America or the United Kingdom, and while the $6 I paid for my medium cup of gelato (pictured below) wasn't ridiculous, Scoops hits a stumbling block here due to the competition across the street: Seven Apples. While $6.00 at Scoops got me the pictured below, I got a larger portion at Seven Apples for only $5.70.
That's quite a bit more bang for your buck across the way. No Star Granted.
Stars 3 and 4: How was the food?
While Scoops may have stumbled a bit when it comes to price, taste and authenticity should be an absolute point of pride. While offering only 16 flavors as opposed to 25 across the street at Seven Apples (Trampoline also offers roughly 16), Scoops gelato is fluffy, flavorful and very much akin to the heavenly gelato you find in Italy. Dual Stars Granted.
Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could?
I could very easily eat quality and affordable gelato every day for the rest of my life, and I'd gladly do so at Scoops. Star Granted.
The ice-cream is on point! The flavour is stronger and the texture is divine. The only disappointment is that when I asked for a fruit smoothie, i received milk and sorbet. There wasn't any fruit options or non-dairy.
Best non dairy chocolate sorbet!!
Mind-expanding.. Easily some of the best ice cream this side of the International Date Line. Even vanilla, universally agreed upon to be the most boring flavour, sends one's tongue to soaring heights even the Scenic Railway cannot hope to match. To say that the pistachio flavour is created from real pistachios would be an insult to real pistachios; rather, the very Platonic Form of the Pistachio emanates from the refreshing dessert as if lovingly crafted by the skillful hands of the Demiurge himself. The coffee flavour was pretty good too.
Over priced and tasteless. Not worth it.
Best dairy free ice cream in melbourne
Great ice cream, odd pricing. I love the gelato at Scoop and certainly prefer some of their flavours to their better known neighbours. Their dark chocolate sorbet is incredible, and so smooth you'd never think it dairy free. Definitely worth returning for.
My only gripe is with pricing; whereas in every gelateria in Europe (and indeed across the road), you pay by the cup size, in Scoop you pay by the scoop. So if you really can't manage more than a small cup but really want two flavours, your choices are i) condemn yourself to the medium cup at cost, ii) settle for just one flavour, or iii) head across the road where they'll happily mix flavours in the smallest cup size. Scoop did this immediately after first opening, but no longer; it's a shame they chose to change it.
Being lactose intolerant, scoops could More than cater for my dietary requirements. Quite possibly the tastiest ice-cream I have ever had! The flavours were inventive and the staff very friendly. The chocolate was a real delight.
Ive been here a couple times and their flavours are amazing! This time i tried Lemon Grass Cookie and it tastes a bit like lemon with a hint of cookies, its delicous! I will come back for more.
Good variety & deals! I recommend it as every time I've got a gelato there I've not been disappointed(unlike "Piccolino"). Every-1 should give it a try when in the area & you feel like a cone gelato or on it's own.
