Review Hotel Barkly - St Kilda

Great vibes, super friendly staff. Had a ball at Drag Bingo. Also got the special which was $15 curry and it was amazing

Quite an old establishment and I’m glad they survived the lockdowns. With no backpackers in Australia right now, the place seemed eerily quiet on a Sunday afternoon. We came for the $15 roast special which was great value - portion size was pretty big (definitely suitable for backpackers), with English style roasted vegetables on the side, as well as a mini Yorkshire pudding. Service was excellent too. Definitely recommend

Can cop the drink specials which make for a cheap start to the night. Beer Pints, wine and basic spirits $5 at 5, $6 at 6, $7 at 7 $8 at 8 and a ridiculously good $10 Parma on Saturdays. Fun vibe and very friendly staff and customers - easy place for happy days to be had 😎🕺

$15 Parma! Really good portions, probably too little cheese but is just fair for the price. They also have specials for the drinks so really good place and location for pre drinks.

This is what a pub is. Run by dedicated, amazing staff that make you welcome. The food specials are unreal, and menu in general, however I highly recommend the $15 steak Thursday night. This place puts so many other venues to shame on how to run a fun environment business. Affordable, great drinks, lots of smiles, and all round a top place. The punters from all round the world top off why this is just a great pub pure and simple. Live music on weekends, so just come here, you will enjoy, and avoid the over priced gentrified plastic venues that are taking The area.

$15 roast on Sunday is definitely the best roast in Melbourne where other pubs are $20+. $16 Carlton draught jugs makes Barkly hotel the best pub for beers 🍻 n roast on a Sunday

Cannot fault this place, didn't stay as a back packer but lives local, Parma days and happy hour are great, never too much trouble, went here regularly for a year and always the best for prices and quality. Will return one day

Walked in with the wife, bar person acknowledged us by saying '' That door over there, check in'" long after such rules had been removed. There were no QR codes on the doors and people known/hipper/grungier wandered in and out unfettered. No problem with obeying Covid protocols..We were the only two people wearing masks. But the snide attitude conveyed in just a few words meant our money and custom left through the door we came in. The Post Office just down the road provided a stunningly good afternoon..And they were more than happy for our custom and to take our money. Do yourself a favour and walk another few hundred metres for a superior, customer friendly experience!

Disappointed. Was not a great experience for us and will never be going back . False advertising by Groupon deal and hotel Barkly. The menu that's shown here does not exist which enticed me to try the newly renovated hotel. This is their menu. When we went to the counter to say we had a voucher the staff didn't know what a Groupon was. Before you advertise a deal staff should be informed . We ordered at the counter at 530 pm . we wanted beef Sunday roast, then told there was no beef left! Dinner service hasn't even really officially started.

The new renovations are fantastic! The rooftop is fantastic, especially for a celebration or function! The food is delicious. I have tried to tofu & mushroom bolognese with zucchini noodles which is a vegan dish and is incredible! Tastes better than normal bolognese! The naked parma is also great. A much lighter version of the traditional parma! Great food, and the new owners are so lovely and welcoming!
A Chronicle Of Gastronomy
Hotel Barkly has been around since 1853, so it’s no surprise that it’s passed through multiple hands over years. The latest of these belong to Campbell and Belinda, who’ve brought a renovation and new menu with them. Admittedly, I haven’t been here before so can’t comment much on its transformation, but I can say that the new space is modern and fresh. There’s plenty of wooden panelling, broken up by greenery and a light-coloured coat of paint. Though it looks quite different from the traditional pubs we’re used to seeing, it still retains its heart. You can play a game of Jenga while perched on a couch made of Sherrin Lyrebirds, play Big Buck on the arcade machine, or sit back, relax and enjoy a match on the big screen.

Quirky pub with a great vibe and a modern menu.

The burnt cauliflower was absolutely delicious! We also loved the 'naked parma' - a healthier version of the classic Parma. It comes with a side of sweet potato fries and apple slaw.

The waffle fries here are out of this world!!

They also have a great wine list!

Fantastic spot to bring a group of friends for great food & a fun night out! They also have a rooftop which is great for the summer months!
Definitely the best hotel/pub food we've had in a long time! Hotel Barkly has recently been taken over by new owners and they've definitely done a great job- maintaining the pub/hotel vibe while simultaneously stepping up the quality of the food and the options on the menu. The burnt cauliflower entree was super tasty and we loved both the mushroom/tofu bolognaise and the "naked" Parma. The waffle fries are fantastic too!

I accidently deleted my first review so here it is again. New menu, new renovation, new owners. Definitely worth the trip across town for. I loved the tofu and mushroom Bolognese with zucchini spaghetti and my partner could not stop talking about the classic parmie. Shout out to the Mt Martha mussels and the chips and gravy (amazing gravy!).
