Review Spice Me Up! - St Leonards

Tahir Rauf
Stafg is rude. They took wrong order and then were very rude when they had to change it. Its a really good place and is halal. Their food is not very spicy and is quite good in taste. I work nearby and visit whenever I want to eat something good. Service is probably bad, they take a lot of time. When they bring food they bring in chunks, like if we are 2 people they will bring for one person and then the second person is just sitting and waiting.

Food is quite good. I took the recommendation of another review and tried the laksa. I enjoyed it, but it is not a “traditional laksa”. The other reviews about the service are quite accurate unfortunately. Been here a few times and there appeared to only be 1 waitress who also had to collect the money. A couple of times I was not even greeted at the door just had to sit down in a random spot. Penang curry has good flavour but chicken was dry and tough. The Super Pad Thai (chicken and prawn) was quite nice Wonton soup (no noodles) was ok, but the chicken was overcooked

Large servings, lots of veggies, fast service, consistent quality. Personally, I'm a fan of the fried rice and crispy pork belly. (Photo is of chicken fried rice).

Order received was not as requested. The staff then continually hung up on me several times when I was trying to explain and ask that the next time I place an order that they just rectify it. Instead, I was told it was my fault for not being specific enough. Poor service Spice Me Up - we have been loyal customers for years. At one point though you had the best Thai food on the LNS - looks like its time to shop around.....

Ordered the Spicy Hokkien Noodles via Uber Eats and added a note to request extra spicy. Noodles arrived not spicy at all (even without my extra spicy request, the noodles were not at all spicy!). Taste was otherwise OK, I was just disappointed as I was looking forward to a spicy noodle dish.

I’m usually a big critic for reviews! This restaurant is located right near my apartments, & i was a bit not sure whether to try with 3.6 stars google. I ordered veggie curry 🍛 & rice 🍚 & was fresh, standard good spice, no oil on the top curry! Basic comfort food which can make you feel goooood at the end of a long working day :). Also the chef made it fresh..!! 😍

I decided to give this place two stars because their food is actually quite good. It's flavoursome and well priced for the serving sizes provided. Unfortunately we had a bad experience recently at a team lunch. The place was packed but we had booked a table, so we sat to choose our meals. And we sat, and we sat... I watched the one and only waitress run around like a headless chicken trying to take orders and serve food and take payments from customers at the end of their meal. We had 9 of us at our table, and our meals came out all over the place. Mine was the last plate to arrive, which was frustrating as I had a lot on at work that day and had to rush back to the office, so ended up having to take my food in a take away container so I could get back to work. No apologies were given to any of us for the late arrival of our food. I also witness this happening to all of the other tables. They were receiving bits of food at all off times and no one really seemed satisfied. I would suggest unless they are not as busy or you happen to notice more than one waitress inside, stick to take away!!

Place is sometimes full at lunch, but that's a testament to their tasty food. I normally order the pad see ew which I enjoy very much. It is a bit on the moist side, but not so wet that it is soupy. Overall, a solid pick for lunch. Have gone back many times.

Sorry guys not a good rating from me tonight Customer service is horrendous - for takeaway orders and driver is not able to speak clear enough English to make a legible phone call to triage a concern. There was no service recovery when I called to discuss - in fact they hung up on me twice by two separate employees as they didn't know what to do instead of putting me onto the manager to resolve my grievance. Asked for refund for all the inconveniences and confusion experienced - was told to go through EatNow only for the restaurant to deny the refund to EatNow sending me on yet another wild goose chase.

Best massaman beef in Sydney!

Go to office lunch out place. Serving size is so good for its price. More than that, the taste is on point. Just like what I had in Thailand. You would surely crave for this once you tried it.

Don't order chicken Satay!! Chicken Satay was below average. We ordered Prawn and Snow peas and barbque beef with papaya salad. Both dishes were average...it wasn't bad but the flavours were missing.

Food was ok, I liked fried rice but Satay chicken in peanut sauce was not that great. Service was quick and price is reasonable too. But ambience is not that great as well.

Food 3/5
Ambience 2.5/5
Service 3.5/5
Price 3.5/5
Decent tasting Thai food in the lower north shore. I felt like ordering some good pad sae ew so took a gamble with this restaurant. It did the trick! Not as delicious as what you can get in Thai town in the city but it was decent enough to satisfy my cravings. Would recommend ordering Thai from this place as some other places in the lower north shore can be a hit and miss.

Went to visit a relative in hospital and the bus dropped me off in front of St Leonard's station. Spice Me Up was right in front and I felt like some curry.

Presentation:
The massaman beef curry looked really good. To be quite honest, did not expect the lunch special to look that good.

Taste:
One of the best massaman beef curries I've ever had. The meat was super tender and not the stringy dry stuff I'm used to having. The sauce was flavoursome and had a rich curry coconut flavour.
The only problem I had with this dish was the meat being a little fatty (could be why the meat was so tender) and there not being enough of the delicious meat.

Service:
Good service. Waiters were very polite and friendly

Location/Atmosphere:
Located opposite Royal North Shore Hospital. Nice looking restaurant with Thai decor.

Recommendation:
Highly recommend the massaman beef.

Cost:
Lunch special $13

Ordered green curry with duck as main protein.

For $14.50, the rice was in generous amounts and so was the curry. I however, wished there was more duck on the dish. The duck was well cooked and flavoursome. The rice and curry were fragrant and well made.

Definitely has satisfied my curry cravings today.

Ordered stir fried rice noodles. There were any noodles but a lot huge chunks of onion. The dish should have been called stir fired onion. Disapointing

2 strikes and I'm out:

Nice food with the worst service... I don't know who manages this place but I have given it two goes and both times the food has taken well over an hour to arrive. Food arrives at different times and sometimes doesn't arrive at all. Don't waste your time. Spice me up should change it's name to Slow me down

This place is close to my work. I have been three times and found the food to be standard Thai, nothing great, nothing bad. The service however is diabolical. First time I went was on a Friday for lunch, we waited an hour and 10mins.

The second time was on a Wednesday for lunch and We waited 40mins and they forgot 2 out of our 4 orders.

Today; a Tuesday, I got there early for lunch, 12:04. There were three tables that were occupied. I waited 30mins for my order. In that time I watched as the restaurant filled and people ordering take away came and went. I asked the only waitress on, where is my order? She replied "coming now". After 40mins I still had no food. Three strikes and your out! I told them how bad their management was and left. I work for a big company and others I work with have had the same experience. There is too much competition in St Leonard's to try and get away with such bad service. Never again.

I love the sweet potato curry here although the thickness of the sauce always varies - sometimes it's quite funny, other times it's a bit gluggy. This is also home to my husband's favourite pad see euw!

Had lunch here with my colleagues recently and found the Beef Pad Kee Mow to be very tasty! Nice little cafe on Pacific Highway and reasonably priced too! One of my colleagues go to cafe for Thai!

Went for lunch and tried their fish cake, Pad Thai and Beef Green Curry.

Fish Cake was spicier than expected.

Pad Thai was superb. Can do with extra peanuts. The bean sprout and chives give fresh flavor to the dish.

Beef Green Curry was a bit runny. Can do better with richer coconut cream. All other ingredients taste fresh and compensate the thin curry gravy.

Service is great. The wait staff brought extra jug of water once we are close to finishing the first. The food is served timely. Can't complain much on this restaurant, even the restroom is above average. We'll definitely come back some day.

Although the restaurant lacks atmosphere and charm, the laksas are delicious! I'd recommend for lunch or dinner on the go. The rest of the menu looked rather standard for a Thai place.

...decided to have a quick look around the area to find something local. We spotted a stream of customers going into Spice Me Up located on the busy Pacific Highway, so we thought it can't be bad if it has a steady stream of local customers. Today we opted for the good-value speedy lunch menu...

HALAL - No thanks!. Eaten here many times but now I notice the food is halal on their takeaway menu, will never use again!

Great food with good strong Thai flavours - A+. Pleasant atmosphere with clean modern decorations with a Thai slant. A good place to have a nice casual dinner. Polite efficient service. Very well priced for the quality of the food.
