This is probably my favourite Lao/Thai restaurant in Sydney and I’ve been here more than 30 times. Great service, great food, good value for the money. Everything is just amazing.
My favourite dish would be the Thai Style Fried Rice, crying tiger, pork belly and don’t sleep on their desserts because they are bomb especially the banana and jack fruit fritters!!! Ahhh can’t recommend this place enough.
Always the first option when thinking for a dinner in Strathfield. My kid’s favourite restaurant and he really likes the ‘crab fried rice’ 😋
We were a group of six and ordered about eight dishes. Perhaps the number of dishes was a bit too much, food came a bit late. chilli basil fried rice was amazing and massam curry with lamb was succulent. The most surprising dish was the Bbq chicken which was juicy and the sauce was complimenting the meat. Barramundi fish with ginger and shallots is a dish I will no longer be ordering. the sauce was bit too much and soy sauce was overdone. overall, a hearty meal today.
We were looking for somewhere in Strathfield for a quick bite to eat and had heard good things about this restaurant and checked it out on Zomato and it seemed to confirm this. Located on the Boulevarde, it has a contemporary feel about it and has definitely been modernised from the previous restaurant that used to be in this spot.
The service was very friendly and we immediately sat down and given water. Although it is a Lao and Thai restaurant, the majority of the dishes lend themselves to be Thai based. The portion sizes seem to be quite generous. We had the Duck Curry and Jasmine rice to go with that. The curry had a nice flavour which wasn’t too spicy as tempered with lychees and pineapple. Nice pieces of duck though out. The rice was a bit too firm for our liking. We also shared Cashew Nut Noodles which came with flat rice noodles. We opted to have chicken in ours which were large pieces and well cooked. It was a mild sauce that came with it and perfect for us and the majority don’t like spicy food.
Overall a good restaurant with pleasant service to match.
One of my favourite eateries in this part of Sydney; the big drawcard are the Lao offerings because I love Lao food. I order at least 2 plates of grilled ox tongue every time I come, along with the red duck curry, the Lao-style papaya salad and the durian smoothie. My son-in-law loves the rice noodles with chicken and cashews, and if we have room for dessert we order the unique deep-fried ice cream which is wrapped in filo pastry.
Mmmm... felt like eating some Lao food and was too lazy to go back west to get a good feed. Partner recommended we try this one in Strathfield as he remembered it being pretty nice.
I was a little skeptical given the area but the food here was pretty nice. The only downfall was that portion sizes were pretty small compared to what I could get back in cabra or Fairfield but taste was pretty on point. The papaya salad was super tasty and spicy as requested. The ox tongue was nicely cooked - still a little pink inside and really tender. The Lao pork sausage had a good balance of spices inside. I still like the cabra sausages better but this was an ok alternative. The beef was a little too dry for me - I like the one in Fairfield better where they have some fat on the beef still.
Overall, was a pleasant dinner and did the trick for my Lao fix. Service was also pretty good here.
When we talk about Strathfield, people would associate this suburb in Sydney with the dozens of Korean restaurants in the area. However, I will talk about the only Lao and one of only 3 Thai restaurants on this week’s review, Maenam Lao and Thai. Lao and Thai cuisines are quite alike. According to wiki, som tam, sticky rice and larb dishes that you can find in most Thai restaurants in Sydney are actually a part of Lao cuisine.
If you are a fan of maniac spiciness, this is the one! I always ask for extra spicy and they really do it, which is why I like them so much. Ox tail soup is great - succulent, soft and full of flavors. Lao papaya salad is a MUST TRY!
The golden quail was really nice, crispy every bite. The spring rolls were nice, but nothing special. The curry puffs...let’s put this way...I definitely had better ones else where. We also ordered a Tom yum soup to share. Unfortunately the soup was way too sweet to my liking. For main we ordered speciality fried rice with prawns and masaman beef. The rice was nice and had 6 big prawns. A bit of lack of veggies though. The beef was very fatty, and the potatoes inside weren’t cooked soft enough. Overall a good experience.
Really helpful and accomodating staff with reasonable service time. Food is delicious and portions are generous. Interior is also really nice if you wish to eat in.
Service here is always great, menu has a variety of dishes, portion sizes are huge and reasonably priced. Definitely recommend trying this place if you’re craving Thai in stra, it will not disappoint !

This is a favourite spot for many of my friends and rightly so. Food here is reasonably priced, delicious and filling. It can get really busy so book or come early, service is generally good but sometimes the servers can be more preoccupied with cleaning to notice you. This doesn’t dissuade me too much though because everything else is great, food comes out all at once and we’re able to talk and eat together.
The service here was amazing! The staff were all very friendly and the food was even better. It’s also not too busy around lunch which is perfect.
Pad see ew here is very flavourful. Service was friendly and attentive. The fried rice is also nice. It sometimes takes quite a while for the food to come, but not always.
Beautiful restaurant decor, friendly service, food is decorated and presented beautifully!!! Maenam lao and thai features a super authentic menu with lots of different dishes to choose from, their quail entree was beautiful and i definitely would recommend the banana and prawn salad with coconut milk!!
Fresh ambience -good quality Thai food and vegan options available..staff was good but not very accomodating to varations in dishes.no alterations,no substitutes!
The Choo Chee sauce its yummmyyyy.one of the well done sauces. Must try. The barramundi in ginger shallots was ok.the fish lacked flavour.
The veg Pad See Ew was reallyyy good tooo.perfectly cooked.MUST TRY.
Great food - especially the curries.
Great service. Really friendly staff in the restaurant and fast service for pick up/take away.
Nice private area in the back for small events like birthdays.
Amazing food, very friendly environment..a must check out place. Traditional Lao cuisine is a must try. Reasonable price and will definitely visit again.
This Thai restaurant is a five minute walk from Strathfield station. It is one of the few restaurants open after Strathfield plaza. They have an easy to read menu with a lot of vegetarian curry, noodles and wok options. I've been here twice, the first time I ate the Pad Thai and the second time the Thai Style Fried Rice. Both the dishes were really good and decently priced for the quality and service. The place is usually buzzing on a weekend, so go early to grab the best seat!
I found the pad Thai on this occasion to be quite bland compared to the pad see ew. Portions are fair and the quality is good.
Service is fast and friendly.
This is probably the only Thai place on the main strip in strathfield.
Great choices for a fussy vegan. Kitchen happy to swap out where possible and knowledgeable unobtrusive staff made safe dining easy. If i was a local I'd be a regular.
Was really craving thai food and this place was a random pick but really managed to impress me with it's great taste, great service and impressive quantity of foods. Ordered satay chicken, pad see mao, rice ball salad and red curry (chicken). All tasted so good.
Even though in a Korean district, this Thai restaurant makes really really nice Thai food! We had the deep fried fish with Apple salad on top and it really amazed me. We also had the ox tongue, chicken basil and chili fried rice, and the red duck curry. We all really enjoyed the food with full of flavor. I am looking forward for the next time.
Been here many times and every time the food is just amazing! From the thai to the Laos selections!
The salt n pepper squid, massamun curry and the tom yum fried rice are delicious and some of the best I've had in sydney!
The customer service needs work but the food arrived relatively quickly and all together not in drive n drabs like some other places!
My CHICKEN PAD THAI was huge in size I couldn't finish it all but it wasn't flavoursome as the other PAD THAIS in other restaurants. But I guess that could mean no or less msg than others? My friend got PAD SEE EW and they gave her a big portion too. My Duck Salad was small considering it was 18.90. There wasn't much greens and overall it was salty, maybe because there was not enough lettuce? But I loved their LYCHEE SMOOTHIE it was so refreshing. Not the greatest thai food I have tried but its a great place to meet up with friends we ended up staying for 2 hours and they have good customer service.
Fantastic customer service and most importantly, delicious, affordable Thai food. Clean and pleasant atmosphere. Highly recommend the Tom Yum Fried Rice, Ox Tail Soup and the Green Curry

Tiring day at work calls for a nice dinner out. This place is pretty fancy for Strathfield, considering their host of cheap Asian eats. The food is still at a good price, with service great and high quality food. Thai Milk Tea - $16. Didn't think we can finish this all between the two of us,. but somehow we managed. Great milk tea! Not the strongest I've had,

A few months ago I went to this place for some dinner with my mates and it was a satisfying experience.
We ordered so many dishes that the table was absolutely packed! But I personally think the highlight was the Laksa noodles.
Service was also good and the owner was very friendly.
I had a really good time at Maenam. The serving sizes are big which justifies their slightly higher pricing. The flavours are really good and tasted really authentic. The service was good as well, our waiter was attentive as was the manager. Definitely recommend trying.
Been here quite a few times but don't really get the hype about this place. Might just need to try more dishes. Pad Ke Mao is pretty nice with a good chilli kick, and on my last visit, found out they do satay rice which is SO YUMMY. Service is pretty friendly as well. The price range here is on the pricier side much like Chat Thai which is why I don't come here as often I think because I eat a lot around Strathfield. But this is my definite go-to place for Thai food around the area.
Maenam is a breath of fresh in a suburb dominated by Korean restaurants and an interesting addition as a restaurant that does Laotian cuisine (which, granted, is similar to Thai cuisine but subtly different).
Food and value for money are fair enough. Food can be somewhat hit and miss and value for money is variable. In any case, service is friendly and solid but can be somewhat slow, though we happened to be a dining party of a dozen or so people and we arrived on a busy night. Ambience is all right but probably best for small dining parties of families or four or so friends.
One of our favourite Lao and Thai place. Can be very busy some night so better come here early to beat the crowd. Service is good although food can come out quicker.
We like their Crying Tiger, Choo Chee Salmon and Salt and Pepper Soft Shell Crab.
Authentic Laos Thai and issan cuisine. I really enjoyed the banana flower salad, and the grilled meat salad. I only wish that there was outdoor dining too..
Visited Strathfield on the way back from FO. Ordered tom yam gong. It is perfect. Next came the fried fish with Thai sweet chili sauce. It is crispy to the last bite. A bit late but not disappointing: the banana flower salad. Last is durian on sticky rice. Wow, good stuff. I paid AUD 78 for all these. What can I say? This is a very good Thai Lao restaurant. Better than Chat Thai? Hard to so say. This place is a lot more low key so it is cheaper too. Service is quite friendly.
In an area where the restaurants are predominately Korean, this Lao and Thai restaurant is a welcomed addition. Food wasn't as spicy as I was expecting, as sauces and dressings were somewhat on the sweet side, but overall, was still tasty and plentiful, and at very reasonable prices. Can't really go wrong with noodles, stir fries and curries, with a range of chef's specialties to choose from, if undecided.
Recommended for those in the area for dinner and wanting something different from what the surrounding restaurants have to offer.
Delicious!. A couple of friends and I ate here on a chilly Wednesday night. We ordered the chilli basil fried rice and satay chicken on flat rice noodles. They were both delicious dishes, definitely going to head back for the fried rice! A lovely buzzing ambience too that doesnt get overbearing.
Green Curry. Beautifully spiced curry sauce. My only criticism was that I prefer puffed tofu to firm tofu in my Thai curries.
Maenam Lao and Thai is highly rated by Strathfield food lovers at a 94% like rate. It's tough because you have high expectations when you see a high rating. With so many options on the menu and lots of people buzzing in and out of the restaurant, I felt a bit overwhelmed. Pictured below is the the flat rice noodle with chicken, egg, cashews and vegetables at $14.50. I love thick rice noodles that are perfectly flavoured in a cashew and chilli jam sauce. It was a solid dish. The waitress tells me that typically the pad thai, pad see ew and pad kee mao are the most popular dishes but there are enough dishes on the menu to inspire more adventurous patrons. The red curry with beef ($14.50) looked more yellow than red but nevertheless was still delicious. Overall I'd recommend trying out Maenam Lao and Thai! It's a tasty restaurant but I suspect you'll have to come back a few times to try out their extensive menu. I'm not sure it quite tops your green pepper corn, home thai or chat thai but
On our usual hunt for some dinner at a Korean restaurant we stumbled across this place, apparently just when it had recently opened and decided to try it out because we had a craving for Thai. I really like that they’ve opened up where they have because Strathfield now has a bit more diversity and choice in restaurants.
Worth two visits in one day. I totally love this restaurant and I can say that it's one of the best and authentic Thai/Lao restaurants in Sydney with confidence.
Was there on Sunday lunch for a quick bite and had to come back at dinner time with my wife. The food was amazing, the staff who served us at night was extremely pleasing. It made our night. :)
Would strongly recommend to anyone who appreciates and enjoys good Thai food or want to try out Lao cuisine.
Best Thai I've had in ages and we eat a lot of Thai:). We headed here due to good reviews and proximity to the train station (we were heading to a concert afterwards). The service was the best I've seen in ages, the food came quick and was delicious. All the usual Thai suspects on there plus a few more. Will try Lao dishes next time, I loved the variety! Highly recommend this place, price not bad either and the jasmine tea was very high quality! Great place, great food:)
The service here is wonderful, the waiters and waitresses are all very very lovely. and it's nice to see a restaurant in Strathfield that isn't Korean
the food is quite well for strathfield, just the one time when I ordered pineapple fried rice there was no pineapple in sight...
It's recommended if you're in strathfield and not feeling like Korean, then this place is definitely worth a try
Bustling restaurant with great food and service. We came here for dinner because we were drawn in by the decor and menu. Service was great even though they were very busy and the food and drinks arrived very promptly. We would highly recommend the Nam Khao, Crying Tiger and the grilled chicken. Each dish had well balanced flavours and the grilled meats were still juicy and tender. If we weren't too greedy we could've kept the bill low, but we splurged a little and the total was $60 for 2 people. We will definitely come back here again!
The very best food Sydney has to offer and with beautiful, friendly staff. Been impressed for the second time around and will keep coming here for many more times. They truly deserve the hype they get.
Amazing restaurant, the highest quality fresh Thai food and such good value! Try the Rice Ball Salad made with crispy rice, sour pork and peanuts, a huge serve and only $11.90! You can really taste the freshness and that everything is made from scratch. Love it, we have been REALLY impressed.
A good find. I found this while looking for a restaurant around the Burwood/Strathfield area - needed to be food my Indian parents would like and nice enough atmosphere for a family birthday lunch. And it fit the bill perfectly! Service and atmosphere were good, and the quail excellent :-)
Overall the food was good - along with the Golden Quail, the Riceball salad was also a hit. Unfortunately they had run out of the Lao sausages, which I will want to try the next time around. The banana blossom salad sounded interesting, but when it arrived I didn't see or taste any blossoms in the dish... just banana stems. It still tasted good and was ultimately still an interesting dish. We only ordered one main, as we had filled ourselves up on the starters and the less adventurous amongst us ordered a fried rice - it was overly oily and nothing special - there are definitely better choices available though. As for our drinks, the bright orange Thai Milk Iced Tea definitely hit the spot on a sunny winters day, however I was disappointed with the jackfruit smoothie... sickly sweet and more like a slushy.
The whole family loved it, and I'll definitely be back again.
Wow what a great new addition to the bustling Strathfield restaurant strip. Since we're visiting Laos next month we decided to stick with the Lao menu items. They were all vibrant fresh and delicious. The Lao sausage, rice ball salad and laap (we had chicken) were winners. Loved the warm, efficient service. Next time, we'll leave room for dessert!
