Been to this place multiple times, as it is reasonably priced with decent quality. The mulhoe was so refreshing with lots of raw seafood! I love how many side dishes they give you every time!
The teriyaki was amazing! Just the service is a little cold, but quick and efficient nonetheless!
Located in the plaza, this restaurant is quite small. There is a good range of Japanese and Korean foods available. I enjoyed the side dishes provided and found the food was enjoyable, as well as reasonably priced. A note about the sushi we received, some of the pieces were falling apart which was quite disappointing. However, I
would come back to try their other dishes.
Small, quick and speedy restaurant in Strathfield Plaza. Kind staff and amazing service. I really enjoyed the bulgogi pork belly and seafood soon du boo jji gae (both served with a bowl of rice), but would reconsider the teriyaki BBQ eel rice stone pot.
Even though the teriyaki BBQ eel rice stone pot was a big portion, I personally didn’t enjoy the pickled ginger in the pot. But, the eel was tasty and portion was generous.
Like how they have renovated the restaurant.
They have a large menu range for both Korean and Japanese cuisines.
The pricing is about the same as before the renovation.
The sauce that came with the juicy fried chicken was so yummy. Tasted like a spiced tomato sauce.
Love the portion size of their mushroom tofu soup.
Still quite a few items on their menu that I want to come back and try.
Definitely a thumbs up
Ordered the sashimi platter for lunch and I was dying for some sushi. Was pretty average but I give them credit for delivering it quick and efficient on the dish.
Ordered the tofu teriyaki but the staff got my order wrong and they brought beef to my table. However they rectified the problem by putting through my order again for tofu teriyaki which i waited for a total of ~30 min for, which is alright. When the food came though the flavour was nice and batter was fluffy. Abit price here.
I've only tried the sashimi and sushi menu items here - all have been fresh and tasty.
Service is polite, attentive and quick. Seating is clean.
This place has an extensive menu, from Korean to Japanese dishes. This is my go to place whenever I feel like a laid-back meal or when I can't decide whether I feel like Korean or Japanese. The cold noodles are my favorite.
Tomoya Japanese restaurant is located inside of Strathfield plaza. Its a lovely little place to eat where you can order both Japanese and Korean food. We ordered kimchi jiggae here with a side of steamed rice, along with a sushi platter. The steamed rice was interesting as it had black and white rice as opposed to regular steamed white rice. The kimchi jiggae was delicious and all the sushi on the platter was fresh. I particularly liked the generous size of the platter. The service was friendly and prices reasonable.
I'd return here again.
I love love this Japanese place. Everything taste good and I like the korean side dishes. I ordered Tempura udon (huge tempura prawn, crab stick, potato, sweet potato and zucchini), teriyaki chicken (with rice and miso soup) and sushi (4 piece) for $40 (2 people). I was so full afterwards. I'll always go back again.

Tomoya is a Japanese restaurant that serves one of the most freshest and delicious dishes in the Strathfield area.
Their menu range is extensive as they offer many different types of Japanese and Korean dishes. I recommend you try the $17-$19 Chirashi bowls which come with the most freshest sashimi and goodies.
Service is also very good and quick. Highly recommended.
We came to Tomoya for dinner today and it was an overall, pleasant dining experience. We ordered a Chicken Teriyaki bowl and Beef & Egg Dolsot. The dishes were delicious and filling. The meal came with five side dishes for free and we really enjoyed all of them. Staff was friendly and service was efficient and we'd definitely return!
Starting dishes were nice.
Sashimi was fresh and tasty.
Beef Tataki was expensive ($18.50). However it had a nice sear. However, it was also lacking in flavour.
Mushroom and tofu soup with rice was delicious. Could not fault this dish.
Quality food overall. Service was quite good although the food came out a bit slow.

Visited today for lunch, quite busy but managed to get a table in 5 minutes. This is my first visit to a Japanese restaurant and decided to have something different rather than sushi.
We ordered the fish teriyaki and the potato noodles with seafood. My rating for the restaurant is 95% based on the fish teriyaki which was excellent. The fish was cooked well and the sauce was perfect it complimented the fish beautifully.
As for the noodles were average when compared to the fish. The portion sizes were quite good and when you add the sides that are provided it was a substantial meal.
Would go back again and again for the fish.
Interesting find.
We were looking for a Vietnamese place and stumbled upon this restaurant.
Very busy and great service.
The food was just right!
Definitely worth a visit.
Cuisine is a mix of Korean and Japanese.
I may have found my newest love affair in Strathfield tonight. Within the confines of the Plaza and flanked by tough competition, this Place does nothing to stand out from the crowd. With no menu boards available for viewing outside, I had no idea this was a 'Japanese' restaurant until I sat down and browsed the menu.
From then on, Tomoya seduced me in every way. Serving chilled 'boricha' (roasted barley tea) on arrival, my mood lifted immediately as I skipped past the Japanese dishes and delved into Korean territory at the back of the menu. This was, after all, an obviously Korean-run restaurant.
The selection of stews were incredible. Not only do they serve a variety of standard chilli stews, but they also cater to heat-intolerant patrons with a luxe range of pork and beef stews. I went with the 'galbi tang' (short rib) and the mister chose spicy seafood. 5 complimentary dishes arrived promptly.
The galbi tang was absolutely, hands down, best korean stew I've ever had. It had depth of flavour without being overly rich and retained a lightness that went beautifully with the bowl of rice. Although initial bites of the short rib made me believe they were under seasoned, subsequent pieces felt just right. Mister also enjoyed his soup which had calamari, prawns, mussels and clams. Lots of flavour, lots of goodness and only $15!
To indulge a little, we also ordered the fried squid ($10), which was a great share plate. Batter was soft and crunchy whilst the squid was chewy but not rubbery. Total for the evening was $40 and is definitely value for money given the satisfaction I received. Yes, staff are a little distant and unlikely to converse in English, but I don't believe that detracts from the good food and clean utensils. The spoons were so shiny I could see my reflection in them. Such a rare sight in family diners these days and must be applauded!
Ordered the spicy cold noodles and the rice cake in ox bone soup. Tasty dishes, but the staff wasn't really paying attention to us and barely spoke English.
I've been here for a few times now and each time has been extremely pleasant. I love the side dishes that they give out and prices are reasonable. So far I've tried the Takoyaki, Okonomiyaki (Both vegetable and seafood), Chicken Salad, Soba & Tonkatsu Bento, Spicy Chicken Dolsot, Chicken Teriyaki and the Kimchi & Mushroom Stew. My favourite so far must be the Spicy Chicken Dolsot and the Okonomiyaki! Staff prefer to speak in Korean although they can speak English. My experience with the staff varies but most of the time, they are very pleasant and accommodating.Easy access from Strathfield Station, close to the entrance of Strathfield Plaza. Was pretty busy all the times I've been there. Really recommend!!
If you are a Japanese/korean cuisine fan you must give this restaurant a go! It's a no fuss good food and will satisfy your tummy kinda spot. The menu gives a great selection of popular dishes and the servings are descent and the flavour is top notch! Just looking at the colour and presentation makes one flutter with excitement!
It is a hidden gem within the Asian community not so popular with caucasians as it's not too much to look at from the decor. But give this place a try if you are in Strathfield you will not regret. Teriyaki BBQ eel hot stone pot is my regular favourite and the assorted beef soup is the best tummy warmer on a cold rainy day ;) Their free appetiser dishes are of higher quality just as their mains, if they happen to serve Korean mash potato on the day then you are in luck! The radish kimchi is finger 'lickingly' yum is you are a kimchi fan.
Don't expect too much with service. Although prompt not exactly welcoming. Just remember you are there for the food ;)
Tomoya is a place where you can find above average Korean/Japanese dishes. We have tried almost all dishes on the menu. The ones we specially love are Unagi Bento and Kara age.
The price is in line with the quality of the food and the service is also reasonably good. Although not too posh, we can't complain about the ambiance either.
I had an oyster kimchi pot for lunch. The pot was hot and the flavour was there. Overall not a bad pot, although some better improvements could be made such as more oysters (couldn't really taste them). The small dishes were also flavourful ! Overall a good experience. Staff was friendly as well.
Lovely and healthy bibimbap, nice Japanese and Korean dishes options, service is really friendly, price is OK, ambiance is nice.
