I love Satsuki, it is always consistently good. The menu is designed for sharing – tapas style, high quality, and not the standard Japanese fare. To have a reasonable sized dinner, I would recommend 6 dishes between two people. I would say that Satsuki’s signature dish is the spicy tuna tataki, which is always delicious. The menu has had a makeover in recent years, and we return again and again.
Have been going to this little Japanese gem for years. Their food is always authentic, fresh and delicious. We always come for their lunch set menu which is so reasonably priced for what you get. The tempura and karaage chicken have always been our favourite.
We recommend booking before coming here because it seems a lot more people know about this place now and is always so packed.
Decent Japanese food, with nice authentic varieties.
I ordered the Saba premium set, with extra tuna tataki. The Saba mackerel was delicious, the sauce and complementing garnish together with the juicy soft fish was delightful! The sides were alright, my favourite being the duck breast as it was coated in a delicious sauce. The wagyu was a cheaper grade and cut, and was a bit tough. Soba was a touch soft but other than that fine. Spinach was dry.
Came here for lunch around opening time, and it got rather busy quickly.
Always wanna try that place. The food are sensational. Sashimi & sushi are very fresh but food comes out quite slow. Love the atmosphere inside, quite relaxing. Staff are very polite & friendly but some staff don’t seem to be very attentive & know what to do.
Friendly staffs, great food and very nice ambience. It's a quite busy restaurant so I suggest you make a booking in advance. I love what I had there and my husband loves it so much too! Gonna visit there again tomorrow :)
Satsuki is a fine dining Japanese restaurant - great location, great surroundings, and a very comfortable environment. All the food served is very fresh - I highly recommend the soft shell crab. I can guarantee you'll leave Satsuki both very full and very satisfied, with all intentions to return and wanting to try all the other dishes in the menu.
What a beautiful restaurant! The customer service here is absolutely amazing, the waitresses are not only very polite, but their knowledge on the dishes is incredible. This makes your dining experience all the more enjoyable.
As for the dishes themselves, they are served very promptly, and are delicious. I highly recommend both the beef tataki and the pork belly, and then the soy milk pannacotta - that's if you still have room for dessert! Satsuki is a great Japanese restaurant and definitely a place you will happily return.
Loving the ambience and gotta love em fuud too. High quality food with so many variety of choices served at reasonable price with friendly staff with great service :)
My partner and I had the pleasure of dining here for dinner tonight. Lovely restaurant with delicious food and friendly service. Thank you for having us :)
Enjoyed lunch on a Saturday. We had one saba premium set and one agedashi tofu lunch set. Everything tasted good and was authentic. Service was polite to friendly and reasonably prompt.
One of my favourite cuisines to eat is Japanese. A few months ago I needed to catch up with an acquaintance/friend of mine to talk about some business (haha trying to sound like an adult doing adult things). We decided to make it into a lunch date and chose Subiaco for convenience as we were both in the area on that particular day. Food here is nice but is a little on the expensive side. I decided to splurge a little and get the premium lunch set. I enjoyed having a lot of different side dishes to try with my bento box. I thoroughly enjoyed the beef tataki and sashimi was really fresh. My friend ordered the unagi which looked delicious and I must admit I had a little food envy. Portion sizes were small for the amount of money you pay however the quality of food was high – so you get what you pay for. I had the Entertainment Book which offered 25% off your bill, which helped make it better value for money. Overall it was a nice experience and worth a try.
Friendly and diligent service, the beef tataki, apparently their popular dish, was nice, and so was the battered sushi and sashimi. Large servings and their set menus are certainly worth it!
Went to satsuki for dinner on Tuesday. Food was great. All comes out promptly even though it started to get busy. We had the 4 course meal for $75, great value for money as it comes with 2 wine glass or 1 glass and 1 sake tasting. I recommend the sake tasting!! First 2 course is good, fresh and tasty. The main was good to! Dessert was ok..(wasn't to our tastebuds). Overall great experience.
Nice little suburb jam, the food and sake was fantastic, love the two ladies at front house, always been caring and helpful. Sashimi was extremely fresh and well cut and even come with pink snapper and scollops and surf clams.
One of the Top Japanese restaurant in perth on my list:)
Highlight here is the service. The main hostess is the competent person you want to take care of you for dinner. I love the soft shell crab and dessert is well worth a taste too.
Went there for anniversary last week. Lovely place to have a romantic and relaxing dinner. The waitress was very nice and patient, explained a lot for us. Food was delicious, service was amazing. Will come back with confidence.
Authentic Japanese food with excellent service, the lunch is great with very reasonable price, all my friends love it . Will come back again
Fantastic lunch Set!So many choices to go with. This time I went for the Shokado, premium lunch set. Get a bit of everything, sashimi, tempura, pork, duck, octopus etc. I was beyond satisfied after this meal, will last me all night! Lol. Definitely coming back to try more options.
Had not made it for lunch in a while but an entertainment book voucher convinced me.
By far the best bentos in town, unfortunately the substantial prices keep me from coming more often, particularly if the kids are in tow.
$4 for a glass of iced green tea.....come on.
Dined on Thursday, 16 Feb 2017. Service was friendly and the staff worked hard. My rating should actually be 3.75 or the 3.8 average the site gives. Not quite a 4 but better than 3.5. The $75 per person banquet is pretty good value if you are happy to spend that sort of money. Better value than ordering a la carte. It includes three shot size sake's to taste and a glass of wine. It also includes a bowl of rice and a bowl of miso soup. The Miso soup is good. Don't expect it to be loaded with vegetables and tofu. The broth is good though. if you are happy to spend a few dollars the restaurant is worth a visit especially if you are in the area. I like that the sushimi is a proper sized cut and our plate included a snapper, scallop and surf clam as well as the usual salmon and tuna. A tip for beginners is that sushimi is not supposed to be thin. You need to taste the fish. Decent quality. More Japanese style than fushion - lots of Japanese chefs love cooking in a french and Italian style. It is okay if they do that in Japan because there are other Japanese options there. Here I prefer Japanese to taste more like Japanese.
If I could rate it higher than a 5 I would. We had the 5 course set menu with matching wines and loved it!! Delicious courses and excellent value! The service couldn't have been nicer. Everyone working there were so sweet and just couldn't do enough for us...... A rare occurrence in Perth restaurants. We came late, close to 9 o'clock without a booking and they welcomed us in with open arms. I can't wait to go back and take our friends!!!
Friendly service and excellent food! Small tapas style Japanese food. The waiter recommended about 2-3 dishes per person which was good as there was so much we wanted to try. The tataki, tuna and Onsen egg were nice cold starters. King fish and the special mackerel was tender and fresh. Eggplant had a strong miso flavour so may be slightly salty for some but I enjoyed this. Ramen was delicious and had a hearty broth. Can't wait to come again.
Went again and the service was excellent. Gave us a complimentary green tea icecream dessert as they knew we were dining for a birthday celebration.
Giving Satsuki an overall score of 4 because service was polished and super polite as per Japanese culture. Food itself I'd rate a 3.5. I highly recommend the tuna with poached onsen egg and the grilled eggplant with minced teriyaki chicken on top.
I also like the grilled smokey octopus which was very tender. The wagyu beef and duck combo was a pretty small serve for $23. I liked the duck but beef was a tad dry and didn't have wagyu flavour. Soft shell crab was okay too. I liked the passion fruit drizzle paired with the creamy mayo that came with it.
Visited this place last night staff are friendly, the teriyaki chicken and karaage chicken were nice 😋, I also loved the grilled salmon, the tempura dish yum was really hot just the way I like it hehe and the raw fish in the sushi was very fresh and yummy this place is definitely worth the visit, also don't forget to try the soft shell crab it's really yummy 😋
I usually come here for lunch. Not too expensive. Food is very good. Service is not bad. Never tried dinner here because I heard it's very expensive?
The little sister of Halu- Satsuki. Not only is it closer for us than Halu, it is also alot cheaper. I have been here for a quick dinner before heading to San Churros for dessert. I ordered the chicken terriyaki with chicken rice. The chicken mince is tasty, flavoursome and not fatty at all! The rice is not too mushy and not too hard. The chicken terryaki is well cooked with the skin on, and served with bean sprouts in terryaki sauce.
The little (Big) sister to Ha-Lu didn't disappoint! Today we ordered the premium bento with different mains 1) Chicken Teriyaki (juice delicious pieces of chicken with a light teriyaki sauce), Prawn Tempura (lightly battered fresh prawns) and Chicken Kaarage (Juicy deep fried chicken pieces).
Each came with miso soup, 4 pieces of sashimi, soba noodles, duck in medeira, beef tataki, light salad and rice.. everything was fresh and delicious - we all totally enjoyed.. in and out within 45min.. great during the busy lunch trade
This is a great lunch spot for dine in and takeaway. The takeaway chirashi bento box with miso soup is pretty good value although it could have done with a couple more fish slices.
This place is located next to Subiaco train station.
In term of ambiance was good
Service was average
For the food we had:
Wahyu beef tataki..I love the way they balance the sweetness and sourness of the sauce😍
Karage-nice and crispy😊
Spicy tuna tataki- love it 😍definitely recommend this dish
Pork belly kakuni - this is the only dish that letting me down. It's lack of flavour and a bit dry😟
Overall most of their food were nice
Def will come back again
The lunchtime bento box is very nice , authentic and well priced . Great service . Will definetely return. Here are some extra characters happy?
Japanese with a spark! I really enjoyed this restaurant! It's not a stereotypical Japanese restaurant i.e. serving all the usual Sushi Rolls and Chicken Teriyaki etc. The dinner menu is not very big but everything on it is unique (well at least for me, who's been to mostly standard Jap places). Sashimi of the Day plate was fresh and the fish was delicate. The sushi roll of the day comprised of more sashimi which was a pleasant surprise. The fried scallops had the perfect melt in your mouth texture and balance of chilli mayo and the chicken teriyaki in an aubergine was sooo yummy, I did not expect to love it so much.
All of the items are perfect for sharing so you get the chance to try multiple things. I briefly saw the lunch menu and that too is very different to the usual.
The service is great. My only complaint is that it's just a tad disruptive every time a train pulls in if you're sitting outside, but at the same time it's nice to sit outside on a balmy night.
Outstanding food and service. We've been to Satsuki a number of times and have found that they consistently deliver lovely Japanese food and excellent service. The table service has been typically Japanese, very polite, thoughtful and fulfilling the requirements of diners. The dishes have excellent presentation and delicious flavours. I find the style of the Japanese dishes presented uniquely, compared to other Japanese restaurants in Perth. Not a cheap meal, but the quality goes to making it a very pleasant dining experience. I find the menu at Satsuki more appealing to me, than the sister restaurant Ha-Lu. highly recommended.
Recommended. Nicely understated but beautifully delicate Japanese flavours. Atmosphere is a little cold but the food is just great. I will be back.
Satsuki is basically HaLu-2. Food is good, and service is okay - could be more welcoming as other places and staff can be a bit "serious". I suppose this comes with the formality of the venue compared to a regular Japanese takeaway. Most of the dishes are pretty good, but tends to fall on the salty side, and it can be a bit pricey. Presentation is spot on, and everything is always fresh - which is what you would want! It's more of a date night kinda place I suppose, the atmosphere is really quiet and peaceful.
Had a pleasant casual business lunch in the alfresco area. The venue is the better side of basic but comfortable and cool for casual dining. I didn't have much control of the ordering but the menu had primarily a range of 'set' combinations in standard and deluxe. You can also order individual dishes. I ordered the standard sashimi set and my host ordered some wagyu and some interesting deep fried sushi as an entrée. I was impressed with the wagyu but the other was a bit weird. The set can out and I was most impressed. There must have been 8 bowls on the tray in a well balanced combination. I was so intent on work that I forgot a photo .... Oops
Quality wise I'd say it's fair bit from the best japanese but nice style for lunch. Would I go back .... Sure why not. The service was good and the waitstaff so polite as u expect in japanese style.
Lovely meal, very friendly and helpful staff, prices of the meals were very reasonable and the menu varied. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone..great night out will definitely go back.
This has to be my favourite japanese lunch place in Perth. The standard bento boxes are great value ($19.50) with many tasty morsels. I don't bother with he supreme bento as $31.50 for lunch seems a bit OTT. The beef tataki upgrade for $4.5, yes $4.5 is well worth it. Perfectly seared and seasoned. A real delight. Truly authentic, unlike Tao around the corner that does Vietnamese, japanese, Chinese, Thai and God knows what else! Highly recommended.
Fantastic food, best Japanese in Perth. Has improved a lot over the years. Favourite dishes are tuna with onsen egg, wonton prawn basket, and tempura battered tuna roll.
Food here has always been good. I have their lunch specials a couple of time (usually a set lunch) and always found them to be good value and tasty. They have been quite attentive and told people that food will take a while if they are busy which is good, at least if you are short on time, you don't get frustrated waiting.
Been craving Japanese all week! Yay! Satsuki is great, conveniently located in Subi Square, it's also a lot easier getting a table here than at their sister restaurant, Halu. I love their pork belly kakuni, the beef tataki, sashimi and the nasu dengaku. Yum!
3 years of regular visits. We keep going back. Business lunch and dinner. Family lunch with 3 hungry, ravenous teenage boys. Suits all comers. Busy at times but quality of food never wanes. It does not matter what you order it is seriously awesome in flavour, texture and presentation. Last year we visited the sister restaurant in Mt Hawthorn. No comparison. Satsuki is the gem. Give it a go!
This is how it should be done.
True Japanese style with a twist and some flair.
Superb Japanese style customer service.
Always consistent.
Their Sister 'Halu' not to be missed either.
Conveniently located near the Subiaco train station Satsuki is the place I turn to when I want consistently good Japanese food.
The staff are attentive whilst not being bothersome, the food is packed with the Japanese flavours that you would expect without being overbearing (how do some places screw up agadashi tofu?), and the price is on-par with most Japanese places. The range of drinks is good, although I really like to get into the sake and at times this can end up being more than the meal itself.
All in all, a damn fine establishment.
Great Little Spot. Check out the awards this place has won. The service from this place is awesome. Drop in and check the place the out. It's nice.
Went to Satsuki for dinner on a Saturday. We shared the tuna tataki and ordered the octopus and teriyaki kingfish all where delicious, light, fresh flavours. Staff were attentive. Will def go back.
Extraordinary. If ever I would like to have an extraordinary experience with Japanese food, 2 names now come to mind - Ha- Lu and Satsuki.
Went there for dinner last night with my 7 yr old son and there was nothing that we ordered that my little boy even remotely turned his nose up at. He and I ate everything and enjoyed every bit of it. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. my thanks to the staff and chef for making it such a memorable experience.
I have dined at many japonese restaurants and Satsuki would have to be one of the best :) amazing food , great service and fair prices .. Mmm I'm going back very soon !!
I had pork belly. My wife had grilled mackerel. The mackarel was good. The quality of the pork meat could have been better but taste was ok.
Overall better than average
Food was good and if you are not too hungry potion sizes ok. We were seated outside. Although the waiters were attentive there were also delays. So if you want anything quick go in
Consistently Good. Great local Japanese tapas. Highly recommend the edamame salad and the pork belly in broth. I am very pleased with the consistently good service and food we received here and often take interstate visitors here as we know we are guaranteed a great meal. This is possibly my in my top 3 most frequented dining establishments.
Only thing I would like to see is an improved wine list as the current one is rather lacklustre in choice.
Impressive. Just had Lunch here and for $24 I'm a very (full) happy guy!!
Ordered the Mixed Tempura lunch set menu. Expected the mixed tempura, miso soup and rice, ended up receiving a platter with salad, some tasty pork mince, pumpkin in a brilliant rice wine sauce, a tuna roll and some very tasty pickled veg.
Really impressed with the choice and quality and they have a good list of beers and wines too.
Will definitely be visiting again
Authentic and delicious - Lunch value!. I work in Subiaco and frequently have Japanese for lunch at Subi's 8 (!!) Japanese restaurants, but nothing beats Satsuki's lunch sets!
The sets may seem expensive at around the $16-17 mark, but trust me it is worth every cent! This is not a lunch bar but one of the best Japanese restaurants in Perth.
Your choice of main meat comes with miso, rice (koshihikari - for those who know their rice,) soboro (chicken rice topping,) nabemono (stewed vegetables,) pickles, tempura battered and fried nori maki (sushi rolls) and fresh salad. All of these dishes are displayed on beautiful Japanese ceramics that are a pleasure to see and hold. Presentation is at a high standard and nothing is forgotten. The meal is also served the in traditional layout on a pretty tray.
Easily worth the extra $5 on somewhere like Nippon Fare or Tenkadori. This is about as close as you'll get to a true Japanese dining experience in Subiaco!
Halu is one of my all-time favourite Japanese restaurants and ever since I heard of its sister restaurant ‘Satsuki’ I’ve been longingly awaiting to try it.
Satsuki serves authentic Japanese cuisine with a quality and attention to detail that sets it apart from others.
The restaurant itself is similar to that of a Japanese open kitchen style eatery which (for me) gave it more of a casual feel and something you would expect as more of a lunch time venue rather than a dinner setting. Either way if you have lunch or dinner here you wont be disappointed.
All of the dishes we ordered were well received, but the stand outs for me were the Spicy Tuna Tataki, (which literally melted in your mouth), the Assorted Nigiri, the Assorted Sashimi (which I was more than excited to see freshly grated wasabi accompanying the dish) and the Asparagus & Prosciutto Soft Spring Roll.
The floor staff were very friendly and attentive also.
Highly recommend this restaurant and will return.
Fairly decent japanese food. Quality is excellent, food is refined and authentic as you can get in perth. Portion sizes are small though. Price is slightly high. Nonetheless still good standard and i would rank in top 2 or 3 japs in town for me...
Top quality ingredients. Could not fault the flavour and quality of the food. Very fresh sashimi and it came with grated REAL wasabi, like the ones I had in Japan and not the powdered or tube stuff. Tried other dishes and they were all great. Very courteous and attentive staff. The only slight downside to this establishment is the pricing, not for everyday dining.
Fantastic food, really quick service. Seared wagyu beef cold dish was a highlight. Definitely would come back here
Tuna tataki.... A M A Z I N G
Super polite and attentive staff.
Favorite place in subi!
Japanese Tapas? Yes please!. Had a lovely dinner with dish after dish of exquisite Japanese tapas presented beautifully. It is quite expensive, but the tenderly crafted meals served in the hush calm of this little beauty are well worth the price.
Sublime Satsuki. From the moment you enter Satsuki, you are transported away from the hustle and bustle of Subiaco, into an oasis of calm. The service is attentive without being overbearing, and the interior design allows for a feeling of privacy and space.
Satsuki offers a set lunch menu with various choices, accompanied by simmered nomono vegetables, rice and miso soup, but I opted to order à la carte. I started with the seared tuna tataki ($10.50), which was very good, but it was the Tasmanian salmon sashimi ($14.80) that was the show stopper. Thin slices of buttery, melt-in-your mouth, soft salmon, accompanied by wasabi and soy sauce. Even without the garnishes, this dish will change the way you think about salmon. Who knew it could be this good?
My dining companion went for the tempura battered tuna sushi roll ($13), and from all accounts was impressed by the lack of grease, and flavour of the tuna. Once you've tried a fried sushi roll, it's hard to go back to the original style.
I had a palatable miso soup ($2.50) and we both had an enormous and fresh green salad ($7), packed with crisp salad leaves, edamame, tomatoes and grated cucumber.
Satsuki and its sister restaurant, Ha-Lu, source their green tea from 'Green Tea House' in Subiaco, which specialises in beautiful, Japanese teas. For $4 we drank several pots of green tea from Kyoto. Very refreshing and mild tasting.
Finally, we both decided on the black sesame icecream, matcha agar and caramel sauce ($8.5) for dessert. I am not overly fond of matcha as a flavour, but black sesame icecream never disappoints. All in all, a memorable and lovely lunch. Will definitely visit again soon!
Great food great service , can't fault . Not the cheapest restaurant in Perth but cheap and Perth don't really exist at least you don't mind paying here as the quality is well worth it .
One of the best sushi & sashimi places in Perth. Not the cheapest, but certainly worth the premium.
Every visit is a delight!
A beautiful, authentic Japanese experience. After having dined at several of the new trendy Japanese restaurants that are popping up across town these days (all of which I've enjoyed tremendously), Satsuki still remains one of my favourite sushi bars / izakaya restaurants in Perth. Their sushi is delicate, fresh and very delicious. The sushi menu is rather limited and I do wish it is a lot more extensive. However, what they do, they do it very well indeed. Still authentic Japanese cuisine despite the lovely 'fusion' elements.
Yes!. Although slightly pricey (given the serves are quite small) Satsuki is a fantastic restaurant with a wonderful atmosphere and a nice night out for your family. The food is quite authentic and the flavours are great. Every dish is elegantly prepared on a tasteful plate or bowl and the service is unmatched. I’ve celebrated many an event here, and always had a good time. On a balmy summer’s night, the terrace seating is highly recommended.
Very fresh sashimi, salads were beautiful flavour and nicely presented. The letdown was the main dishes, I can't even name one that I like..
Great restaurant, possibly the best in Perth. Love the different menu items like the jamon nigiri. The modern twist is great along with the freshness and lovely staff
Best japanese in perth. Tried this restaurant with my partner for the first time. All i can say is that its the best Japanese I have had in a looonngg time. Excellent service, incredible food, walked away happier than any other restaurant i have been to in a while. They have fresh produce and include unique and inventive items on the menu not found anywhere else. Will return over, and over, and over again.
