Review Brew-ha Subiaco - Subiaco

Peter Walkemeyer
Great coffee and food. The staff are friendly and attentive. Elliot makes a fabulous coffee and clearly enjoys his work. A wonderful cafe to take a break and relax.

Have been coming here for my sit-down coffees and beans for decades, firstly as the Merchant Tea and Coffee Company then as Brew Ha. Has remained my fave as quality, service, staff and ambience have stayed great with few changes in management.

I came up from murdoch to get off campus and try a new place. I got the bacon and egg wrap toasted and an iced long black. The wrap is one of the best coffee shop breakfasts I have had yet and the iced long black had good flavor. The outdoor patio is spacious and really nice! Would definitely recommend!
Lawrence Johnson
Horrible proprietor (I believe he owns the place; sure acted like it with his manner) - disgusting service with no smiles. The coffee quality was satisfactory although it was quite burnt (just beats others in the area) and the restaurant was clean and had longer hours than advertised. I recommend the product - not the service. And to note - the one guy in his mid-late 30’s with the blue cap, beady eyes and the long beard was the one who was horrible. Nobody else even spoke. Just him.

Dome’s estranged second cousin is this place. Most hideous & uncomfy alfresco furniture. I would rather sit on some milk crates or on the ground. Takes about 10 years to get service here too whether it be busy or quiet. Booooooooo!

Good service as usual. Pleasant staff but the ambience is now looking very average. Needs some glitz to improve the vibe. A bit drab now.
Lawson Brandis
Great coffee and breakfast wrap. Brew-Ha will also grind coffee beans to your liking.

This place is odd... I've bought a 250ml Coca Cola multiple times... And most of the time, I paid $2.20... but on a few occassions, I was charged as much as $4.30 for the same can of Cola... Perhaps you can teach the person manning the register the actual amount to charge

Ordered the lemon slice, pear tart, matcha and pomegranate drink. At first I thought they made a mistake and gave a vanilla milkshake instead of the matcha; but it was correct. Poor excuse for a matcha drink, tasted just of milk, so bland and pale.. Same with the pomegranate drink, tasted watery and diluted. cakes and tarts were dry, stale, and impossible to slice through with a fork (the only utensils they gave us). Staff didn't bother with greetings or ask to help us. Definitely won't be returning.

Not only do you have to queue up to place your order at the counter, but then you have to wait around to take your own coffees etc back to your table. I suppose we should be grateful they don't make you wash your own dishes.
It would be kinda okay if this complete lack of service was reflected in the prices but no, their coffees and foodstuffs are just as pricey, if not more-so, than other cafes in the neighbourhood. Can't believe it is as popular as it is. FWIW, the coffee was fine but not special, the citrus tart was really just sugary, without much flavour beyond sweet.
Avoid!

i found the whole experience to be really weird. noone wrote the order down, they just yell it to each other. you have to wait there while they make your dine in order and then carry it to your table yourself. other than that it was a cool building and i appreciate the large amount of newspapers.

I ordered a takeaway iced coffee and I have to say, it was served in the smallest takeaway cup I have ever seen. I also asked for an extra shot, but it was not strong at all. I wouldn’t come here for the iced coffee

Great service , super friendly. The coffee was lovey , strong and creamy! Smoked salmon bagel was really nice and fresh. Snickers cheesecake was also really rich and delicious. The only downer and we deducted a point as we had to pick up our order ! Much prefer table service. But still good .

Location, location, location. Brew-ha operates only on a prime location. Apart from that I find them to be a really subpar joint. Been here many times. Mediocre food, confused staff, extremely slow service.
Mandie Hale
Ambient atmosphere, comfy space with newspapers to read, warm in Winter, friendly and efficient service and good coffee ( we got double shot). Would recommend.

Been a regular at this place for a few years and I generally like the coffee here, but sometimes it really depends on who is making it. Not much of hot savoury food options, but the small selection of sweet treats here are good enough to pair up with your coffee.

Stopped by for a take away iced latte ($4) on a warm winters day. To start with, all staff I interacted with in my short few minutes were extremely friendly without any false forced chitchat. The latte, while small for a regular size, packed a strong coffee flavour. I added a tiny bit of sweetener myself (as I have a sweet tooth) and after that it was perfect to my taste. The cakes in the display all looked delicious so I will definitely be back to try them!

Average. Slow service.
Okay coffee for a winters day,
Just not my type of place unfortunately however it is convenient for where it is in Subiaco
Melissa
Worst vegetarian wrap I've had. Lukewarm, mostly eggplant - needed some other vegetables, no relish so it was pretty bland. Well below average. Service was pretty good though.
J Smith
The coffee was decent. My flat white was nothing to rave not complain about. There's lotsa seating the cafe to catch up with people. The outdoor area is pleasant to sip coffee. Service was efficient and nice.

One of my favourite coffee takeaway place! Stumbled upon it as I was strolling the streets of subi! Do pop by for a taste of their coffee !!!!

We were having trouble finding a non-dessert-based place in Subi that was actually open at 3pm on a Sunday, so we were happy to see Brew-Ha still serving. Most of the food options had gone, but that was understandable. I tried a salmon bagel, and it was quite nice and reasonably priced. My partner had the fruit and nut toast, and his opinion of that was: "I think the last place I had fruit toast was at Odyssea, and this toast kicks that toast in the nuts. I think I paid less for this toast too." So a glowing endorsement there. The coffee was nice. There were also granitas for $4.20, which you don't often see in cafes. A warning if you sit in the leather chairs: you will sink more than you expect to. They're comfy, though, you just end up a little further away from your dining companion.
I also liked that there were a decent amount of recent papers and magazines to peruse.
You do have to wait at the counter for your coffee, and then they bring the food to your table.

Bacon, chicken & avocado wraps are very very salty but coffee is great.
A nice cafe open when you want a cafe to be open.
Great atmosphere inside & out.

after 15 years going to brewha and enjoying both food and coffee they seem to have lost the plot. changed their bread from quality ality artusan style to cheap cardboard and reduced serves from 2 to 1. even though menu says 2. I think false advertising is an illegal trading practice. Obviously a few sustainability issues here and sad loss of a previous subiaco icon.

The Swiss Bircher here is nice! Is it Swiss? I'll ask my mother!! The coffee is good. Ice coffees are epic. Location is good with lots of free parking.
ObesieOdettie
I personally find the taste of the coffee here a little too strong and bitter.
The muffins are nice and so is the frappe.

Cyclists seem to love it here.

9/10 for the coffee, perfect intensity for my taste. I tried the ginger crunch slice as it's something I'd never tried before. The flavour was awesome but the texture was a little too dense. It's hard to find a well balanced slice.

The customer service is always great at BrewHa. When you order your coffee, they say it out loud to the barista. I like being able to see their communication, it makes you feel confident your order will go through.

We were looking for a cafe for coffee after a visit to the Subiaco Markets and stumbled on Brew-Ha. I'd noticed it before as there is always a line there! Our coffees were really good especially my Long Mac. I also had the Lemon Tart which was big in size but I didn't quite like the base, a bit too soft for me. Would have loved to try their other desserts but we were too full! Next time!

Sorry a quick review, not my norm

Stopped in because power was out across the street at my first choice. Brew-HaLarge is a large venue that seems to be populated by wifi trolls. At 4pm on. Friday, I was the youngest (49) here. Staff was young and polite without being warm or friendly. Long Mac Topped Up was very hot and ok. Mocha was very hot and ok. Gluten free brownie tasted healthy and the macadamia nut slice was store bought quality.

Stopped in for a takeaway. Seems they temporarily forgot my order because nothing else could explain how freaking long it took. Not very friendly either. Sad face.

Sloooowwww. Exhausting to wait in line for service here. Just too slow. Unacceptable really, especially during peak hour.
Food 2 Run
Really nice spot in subi, great coffee and a huge range of tasty breakie options

Burnt tongue. Always inconsistent, depending which barista you get, brew ha are so well located that people keep drifting back there.
Our two takeaway coffees today were way too hot. Last week was too hot but this week's was the tongue burning type with a bad taste in the mouth for hours after. Someone else inside, with dine in cups, said the same thing before I mentioned it so maybe its their new methods as different baristas were involved.
Not sure that the owners read urbanspoon as my comments echo many othersi regard to inconsistency. Pity as its such a good spot to be but we've decided to go elsewhere from now on, as we are sick of the hit and miss. If the owners do read this, we'd like our $9.20 back.

Come on brew ha, its not that hard. If you talk to your customers, you'd find inconsistency is your biggest issue.
Kylie
Average. I found the staff very rude but persevered as I wanted to try the coffee (after reading positive reviews). After ten minutes I was presented with a mug of coffee even though I'd ordered take away, waited another 5 minutes for the take away and I really shouldn't have. I had to throw it out, it really was bad coffee - I'm not sure if their coffee always tastes like this or if they just rushed mine? I won't be back though as there are plenty of nearby alternatives.

Some positives for morning cyclists. But the coffee isn't one of them.. Good place to stop after a morning cycle - open when we arrive before 7am, lots of outdoor seating and fast service (good for groups). But the coffee is ordinary on a good day and highly variable with the barista.
Been going there twice a week for years but, with the options for good coffee in Perth increasing, it might be time for a change.
Ali Waters
Quality of the coffee is ok nothing special but unfortunately the quality of barista is so varying that some days coffee is really below average . So all depends on you luck
OnePointFive
Nice place but nothing special about their coffee nor food options. Dissapointing.
Ultrareyne
My favourite cafe in Perth. Great coffee and always consistent. Lovely informed staff that are like theatre to watch when they are busy.

Won't be back!. Called in for coffee and a bite to eat. The coffee was good but the roast beef panini I had was terrible - $10 for a slab of bread, two shaven slices of beef and limp spinach. Similarly my wife's pumpkin and corn salad was small, dry and $8.50. Plenty of of other places sell good coffee AND decent fare.

Terrible Coffee!. Just tried a coffee from Brew-Ha for the first time and I won't be going back.

Asked for a small, double shot Flat White and what I received was a terrible cup of liquid!
The milk hadn't been steamed correctly, very little aeration which left it tasting dull.
The espresso tasted very weak, as if it hadn't been tamped or extracted correctly.

Overall, very poorly made and just average service.

0/5

GREAT COFFEE!. Always a great coffee guaranteed, very friendly staff and good location.
Food is a bit in the pricey side. The macarons are perfect!

Best 3 shot FW!! Always good had one everyday (just about) for 5 years while working in Subi. Surprised not to see these guys on best coffee list . Def my number 1!!

Great Coffee. Brew-Ha roasts its own coffee for use in the coffee shop.

They also sell their coffee blends, including the espresso blend they use in the shop home use. They sell the different blends as beans and will grind it for you if you prefer. Their 'espresso' blend is very good standard but our favourite is 'Voodoo Sax' blend, which has a rich quite strong flavour and is delicious. We have been buying Voodoo Sax for more than 2 years and find it leaves most other commercial blends/brands for dead.

We are not big sweet eaters normally but highly recommend their Lemon Crumble muffin.
Vince
Macca's coffee grade. Twice for coffee, no aroma, dead taste coffee, consistently mediocre although not bitter.
Good pastry though

Just had a fantastic first time experience at Brew Ha in Subiacco. Struggled to find a decent place for coffee on a Monday public holiday then stumbled across Brew Ha. Honestly couldn't really fault the place. We arrived when it was very busy and full of people but thanks to the great and efficient staff out coffee was delivered within a minute and exactly how we asked for it. Delicious coffee and food. Owner was more then happy to have a chat with us about his caffe. We will defiantly tell our friends about this place and be back.

Soy Latte was good. I did enjoy my coffee with my friends but i dont understand why you have to wait at counter and take it to your table..when i noticed others having their coffee taken up to them...it wasnt that busy either. Room for improvement.
my cupcake was very cold in the middle, think was still defrosting...
Hilarious
The coffee has got better since the cafe was bought by local fashion icon, Jim Short.

Haven't had a bad coffee there yet

Was there in the quiet afternoon, and was very impressed to see the level of care from the staff. There was a disabled man in a wheelchair who was hard to understand, but the staff was incredibly patient, and helped him with several phone calls to order a cab. Was great to see that their care doesn't stop with handing out the coffee. (which was great btw, ordered a flat white. It came with a beautiful pattern. Loved it!)
Wintersolstice
I don't understand why I had to wait by the counter for my coffee and bring it to my table myself.

Happenings in Brew Ha Ha Subiaco. What a strange day. I've been road-raged outside St John of God hospital and now my wife and her friend have been followed menaced and filmed by mobile phone by a guy about 40, well-dressed but wearing a baseball cap inside Brew Ha-Ha's Subiaco cafe. This happened about 2pm today. Is there something in the Subiaco air? Mitchell Barnes

Food is very over priced and the coffee is too hot to drink. Shame the atmosphere is so nice.

Ugh...doughy scones.
YummyKitty
Pretty good, but soy milk used in soy cap has a chalky aftertaste.

Seeing is believing Wow thi.... Seeing is believing
Wow this place can churn out seriously great coffee very quickly. Staff are so pleasant and well educated and passionate about what they sell and seem to enjoy being there.

Great Macarons. Love the great Macarons....mmmmmm

Burnt soy latte = burnt mouth... not cool!

Professional and friendly. This is a cafe unlike any other. It gets crazy busy, but the staff are always on top of it, extremely professional, and genuinely friendly. Go often enough and I guarantee they will remember your coffee and your name. They roast their coffee onsite and are happy to give advice on both coffee and tea. It's a family run business and no matter how busy it gets, it maintains its warmth and its welcoming feel. This cafe has a very special place in my heart, and I would recommend it to anyone :)

Good coffee bloody fast!. Brew-Ha serve consistently decent coffee. Pumpkin and date muffins are soooo good. Dog friendly too!!
Subi Foodies
By far the best coffee & service in Subi - and I'm hard pressed to find a better cuppa in Perth. Staff are friendly and super efficient, never too long a wait, even when there's a queue.
Jake
Dog friendly. I love this place because it is dog friendly, didn't take the dog with us but great ambience and great food. I especially loved my guava tea, lovely delicate flavor. I had the full breakfast, friend went for the vegetarian breakfast because she adores the cornbread. Both were generous serves with fast service and great flavour.

No smiles, only ;(

Nice location just off the main drag, roast their own beans on site. Unfortunately, some details like the self serve sugar, chocolate sprinkles etc remind me too much of Strarbucks or other chains. Pity really.
Mr Fussy
The coffee is OK. The pigeons obviously rave about the food, all their mates are there to eat your leavings.. The coffee is OK and reliable, the baristas efficient. Inside there are plenty of tables and the decor is OK. But why, oh why, can't they do anything about the flying rats contaminating the outside tables and chairs?
TheCarb
Tasty, but inconsistent. Its in such a relaxing spot in subiaco. However, despite the beans being roasted on premises, you'd expect tight control over the way the coffee is made. Ive had some amazing cups here, but also some that have no doubt been overextracted

Nothing is more charming and alludes warmness than exposed walls tight corners with black leather sofas. It screams New York! That's what Brew-Ha in subiaco is. Oozing with coolness and yet still warm.

Oh holidays, how I miss thee. Leisurely weekday shopping in Subiaco, no crowds, lots of sales and quirky stuff to look at. And even time for a quiet coffee at Brew-Ha - I love the name. No festive brouhaha here. Thank goodness. Brew-Ha, Shop 3-4, 163 Roke
