Review Bibik Chan's - Subiaco

Douglas B
Had lunch here, consisting of a Rendang along with Gado-Gado. Both dishes were very good. The beef meat in the Rendang was beautifully cooked and just fell apart in the mouth. The amount of chilli was just right. Enough to feel the heat and be borderline fiery, but still allowed you to taste the flavours.

Surprisingly good! Found this restaurant on Entertainment book so came and try, price is VERY reasonable! Food is good! Hidden gem will definitely come back!

Cheap and cheerful but also loud and the meat was not very nice. It was a large serve but I'd have preferred less quantity of a slightly better cut of meat. Our group of 4 left quickly to go elsewhere for dessert so we could hear each other talk.

Subiaco's hidden Asian fusion gem. Great spot and reasonably priced. Delicious food. Attentive service. Feel good wholesome cuisine. You won't be W. Will return soon 🙂. Keep it up

The food is deliciously healthy and the price right at $9 meal. No waiting! Prompt and friendly service at lunchtime. We decided to add a few more coins to the metre and stay longer. Can't wait to return for a guilt-free meal. Friday evenings the parking is free after 5.30pm around the corner :-)

Unfortunately a very long wait for the food. We had the banquet which was not great value.

Beautiful lunch, very fresh, great service. Would love to go again if in the area

Good cheap eats. Not one to take a girl on her first date or for that anniversary dinner. But looking for a casual well priced BYO? This is your place. Staff are super friendly and there is a homely feel. Seafood is great. Beef satay sticks are a must.

So I'm really torn about this place. On one hand, I didn't enjoy one single dish that was put infront of me, it was flavorless, missing specific flavours for the dish it actually was, I tried to explain to my table some things i wanted and the lady kept talking over me and wouldn't go away while we hashed it out. She seemed aggitated at the table at one point too but she's a little bit rude.
On the other hand, a couple of non asian people at our table who were really hungry did actually enjoy the food, though i reiterate they don't know what they're eating and were already hungry. The lady was generally quite nice except for those two moments, the food is cheap really.
However i can't bring myself to give it more than 3 stars for the flavour. I'd rather pay a bit more and get a nice meal rather than something so bland I could make myself.
The Wilson parking (where u must part for this complex) really starts you off on a bad vibe too.
I didn't even take any photos of the food because i was so disappointed.

The service was prompt and very courteous, we were greeted with a smile and very good manners. The food didn’t take too long to be prepared and it was definitely up to par, very well cooked and prepared as good as possible given the type of food we ordered (Nasi Goreng and Mutu Fish Curry).

Assorted satay was OK the peanut sauce not thick enough taste OK.
Rojak average.
Curry chicken was good.
Seafood curry was average.
Coconut rice 🆙 to standard really have that coconut rice fragrance.
Not professional services. Overall disappointed.

An unusual experience. Overly attentative service, but not that professional. The food is cheap but the flavour was just not there in either the rendang or the king prawn curry. The prawn curry was small and watery, and the rendang was also dry. Would not go again.
Casey
I visited her for dinner ordering the laksa, chicken skewers and rendang curry. The satay was very nice and the peanut sauce was complimentary. The laksa was so disappointing- just a lot of coconut milk and not a lot of flavour. The prawns also didn’t taste very fresh as I think they’re frozen.

I love this place. Just went back after 20 years and the menu is exactly the same and still delicious. My favs are chilli crab and laksa... so tasty. The new (3 years) place in Subi has zero ambience but the service and food are great.
Rob
Tucked away in Subiaco village. Nice atmosphere, attentive service and tasty well priced Malaysian food particularly the nasi lemak which was enjoyed. Visited for a quiet midweek lunch. I would happily go there again. Recommended.

Came here for the first time, food was below average in taste but very affordable price. Service was a bit slow as there only have two workers on a very busy evening . The staff nearly overcharged us but luckily we checked our bill before we pay.

Avoid this place! We booked a table for 10, we were seated in a corner super close to the wall.... it was uncomfortable to start with. There was one waitress holding down the whole restaurant as well as the phone. The waitress wasn't well presented. We were expecting casual dining but never expect that a waitress would be in a track pants and cartoon tshirt. There seemed to be only one cook who was taking all the orders. We ordered around 10 dishes and they were all awful! Presentation for food was terrible. Waitress was plonking them down on the table and running away immediately. My dad and husband got the same dish, chilli seafood which the waitress said would be really hot, it was mild if anything and all you could taste was vinegar!!!! The seafood had lost all its flavour and the main flavour was vinegar. We didn't even know what seafood was in it. My prawn dish had egg shells in it - just unacceptable. Sesame chicken looked disgusting and was really dry. Laksa didn't even have that coconut laksa flavour. Soft shell crabs had ZERO flavour and the satay skewer portions were joke not to mention the satay sauce was just plain bad! Lamb rendang was just odd we didn't even know if it was actually lamb or something else. Something as simple as rice came out so dry and just gross. We couldn't believe how bad this place was considering the good reviews online.

To summarise, terrible setting, it was hot and sticky, it was dark, no lights were turned on above our heads, bad service all round, food is worse than awful and quite frankly, I'm worried we will be getting food poisoning. When confronted about all these issues, the waitress gave a very careless response taking no responsibility whatsoever. We will NEVER step foot in this place again and think everyone should reconsider if they're thinking about going. Yeah it might be cheap but honestly, your money is better spent at maccas. My mum's birthday dinner was ruined 🙁

Delightful service, clean and well-run restaurant and affordable food. Too much cabbage and sauce in some dishes but the beef rendang was tender and tasty.

The car park outside is expensive but there's an okay car park nearby.

A group of Perth Food Bloggers and I enjoyed a foodie tour of Subiaco, to rediscover one of Perth’s hubs of great entertainment, dining and drinks. We had an unofficial 4th stop on the tour at Bibik Chan’s Kitchen. The popular Malay eatery, that once resided on Stirling Highway for over 30 years, has relocated to Subiaco and is now found next to The Village Bar.

Very flavourful Malaysian food with a good amount of spice! We went at lunch time and tried the curry laksa and nasi lemak, comparable to street food in Malaysia (but much bigger serves!). Decor is a bit dated however service was friendly and food delicious.
Ami
Hands down BIbik Chan makes the best nasi lemak in Perth. Other dishes worth mentioning include their Chilli crab and bee hoon goreng which tastes homemade and is delicious. Please open on Saturdays for lunch Bibik Chan so we can get our lunchtime nasi lemak fix on weekends :)
Jodyweir55
Bibic Chan what has happened to you? We have enjoyed you for many years but on a recent trip we left seriously unimpressed, with some of our food completely inedible. The satay was tasteless and not at all charred and the satay sauce tasted only of salt. The rest of the meal was watery and similarly tasteless and the rice was so salty some mouthfulls were actually crunchy with salt and couldnt be eaten.
Please bring back the old Bibic Chan!

Great little local restaurant. All food was delicious. The soft shell crab with south beach sauce was AH-mazing! Service was attentive and the price was very reasonable. BYO is also very convenient. Will be back soon.

It's been a few years since I've visited Bibik Chans. I can remember the place so vividly from my Uni days. The satay is still as tasty, nasi goreng still as fragrant, and rendang still as moist. thumbs up

Cute place. Well. Of course there is better Asian food around, probably even in Perth.
This place with its very switched on cute little waitress is surely no fine dining experience, no hipster Japanese overpriced and still foul food, but just honest Asian food, modified for Straya.
If you want proper Asian food, go to Asia. (As with any cuisine.)
Thankfully, my Satay Chicken was NOT devoid of any main ingredients, Satay sauce and chicken could be found on the plate.
I am unable to judge anyone else's expectations, but for $39 Inc. three starters, mains (and corkage) my boyfriend and I got exactly what we expected. Maybe even more. So take a chill pill, see ya at Bibik Chan

Its nice. Thank you Nirvana, you have just managed to insult the population of Perth. I was not raised on vegemite or pizza and fast food and rarely eat it. I love fine dining and one of my favourite restaurants is Billy Kwongs in Sydney. I wish it could come to Perth. That said Bibik Chans is what it is. It is cheap. We paid $29 for two people. Our food was fine. We have been there a number of times and some dishes are not as good as others. Our beef satays were a bit chewy so go the chicken or have the chicken wings. It is not the best food in Perth but it is edible and it is enjoyable if you just understand that this is a restaurant that for us caters when we are on a budget and is a place we go to before watching a movie at the Windsor. It is not and is never going to be your high end restaurant. Just sit back and relax and don't stress whats in front of you unless you have the high price tag that goes with it. There are certainly better restaurants around but this is not a bad place as you will see when you go it is packed.

Good Value. Excellent food and service. Nice to go to a place and enjoy the meal and not be over charged for what you get.

Holy damn, been waiting an eternity for our food. Starter of pork dumplings was good, about an hour ago.

Great Little Place. We have loved everything we have ordered at this place. Quick and efficient service and did I mention value for money! Love the cosy ambience and the satay chicken. the beef curry is pretty good too. Totally recommend it if you are just looking for a cheap dine out experience at a great spot!

Worst meal I've had in Perth. I'm by no means a harsh critic, love trying new places around Perth... but this place was a shocker. Ordered the gado gado veggies, spicy seafood & siam noodles and it was barely edible. Sauces were watery and flavourless (tasted like a bad pre-mix jar of something) & some of the veggies were actually frozen. The waitress ended up giving us another couple of dishes but still not fantastic. Even though the prices are good, food not worth it. Wouldn't bother.

UPDATE: We were a little surprised to see they had moved to Subi, but the food and service is still the same, a great cheap option ($35 for 2 people)! Sadly there is no outdoor area anymore, and it does get very loud inside with that tiled floor, so be prepared for that when its busy.

*****

Had a lovely dinner in the garden out back, the ikan masak pedas is highly recommended! Very tangy and spicy with perfectly cooked fish.

Delicious little place just round the corner from us. Lovely, friendly service and home-made style food. Curry puffs, Satays and Mee Goreng noodles are superb. It's great value for money too. Bring a bottle of wine: no corkage! Love Bibik Chan.
Miranda Teague
The food was great as always last night 21 Nov but the waitress was very rude. She said we couldn't eat outside when we could have, served the wrong food without apology and squashed all 3 meals into one box for us to take home at the end. Apart from that we had a great night.
Muse
Not flash, more sub ordinary if anything. after finishing our entrees we were requested to remove our skewers and chicken bones from our plates so the plates could remain on the table for the mains. enough said...

One the secret gems of Nedlands. This simple but tasty little restaurant on Stirling Highway is one of our favourite local places to eat. The friendly and unpretentious wait staff are always more that happy to help. I especially like having a glass of red (corkage free BYO) over beef rendang, sesame chicken and steamed rice dishes. Will continue to return to Bibiks.

The price of the meals means that you forgive the patchy service! Great value here - try the satay, they're well known for it. A good option for fast food.
Ugo
Good Value. Its quick. Staff are polite. Decent menu with some very nice dishes.

Excellent Restaurant. Bibiks is very understated and easy to miss if you drive too fast on Stirling Highway. The food is excellent, we dine here often and the prices are so cheap. The staff are very quiet and you hardly notice them running around even its just a small restaurant. The decor and layout is nothing special, but then it doesnt need to be because the food alone sees this place regularly full. Always looking forward to the next time we can go back.

So good!. Very tasty food that had a nice spicy bite to it! Great value for money and although simply presented inside and out, is a place without pretensions and just does what it does really well.

Went there from work at late cold rainy there ... have heard a lot that this place is really good for peranakan food ... But the wasn't as I expected ... "succulant" satays were oily which I believe had been grilled earlier and fried again before serving ... The beef satay were burnt on the tip and very chewy ... nasi goreng was alrite for hungry people like us ... nonya salad with peanut sauce had that smell of old fried peanut ... This would be our only visit.

I don't usually write reviews but I felt that I need to warn people. This is my first and will be my last visit to Bibik's. I had a meal this evening with my family & friends from Sydney. We had assorted chicken & beef satays. The chicken satays were edible but not brilliant. The beef satays were very chewy. Curry puffs were actually old minced meat wrapped in soggy pastries. Fish Curry were shockingly bad. The Quality of the fish used; very questionable? Boneless chicken curry tasted like cardboard. Nasi Goreng was blend and worst of all the plain rice tasted like yesterday's leftover. In fact I think the food were all reheated. I would not recommend Bibik Chan's Restaurant to anyone.
RuthN
Great food, fast service and $15 per head for entree and main!!! Awesome will be back.

I don't usually write negative reviews about a restaurant unless they really disappoint me! Bibik chan is the first place that disappointed me enough to write bout it! Gave this place 2 chances and was extremely disappointed both times! First time had the laksa which had no flavor, very diluted and hardly any prawn found ! Couldn't even finish it ! 2nd time ordered the naya patang which comes with rice & 3 curries (beef , chicken n veggie) for $10! Good value no doubt! Untill u try the food ! Veggie curry came in a bowl of watery liquid n had to fish for the veggies ! Chicken was ok although not spicy like I requested ! Beef was just terrible! It's very hard to make beef taste bad ! But somehow they managed to do that! This is definitely the worse Asian place I have been to!

Cheap and cheerful. Noodles not great, but the nasi padang is great value and yummy. Obviously might not meet the standards of the Matt Prestons among us though
The Foodie
Plastic. The decor deceivingly depicts a place that serves authentic Malaysian Nyonya fare. The curry is amateurist and the satay tasted more like kebabs. The essential spices are missing.
Cameroon123
The food is cheap and tastes cheap. Would rather spend a few more dollars and get something worth eating. Will not be going back.
Ryno143
Love it. We dine here at least once a week. My favorite is boxing chicken and 5 spice rolls. I dont know where else to get these 2 dishes so i always go to Bibik. Cant fault the place, staff are great, food is so cheap and service is excellent. Its not very stylish but i would rather good food over good decor any day.
Lillian
Cheap!. This place is so ridiculously cheap it's not funny. Most of the mains were around $8. The rendang curry was nice, the laksa not really, but for the price you're paying to dine in it doesn't really matter. There's a nice garden area out the back. Unfortunately we were the only people at the restaurant at 8.30!

Dinner for 4 for under $50. We enjoyed a lovely dinner for 4 for under $50 - 2 serves of Assorted Satays (without prawns), Rojak, Rochor Mee and Laksa. While the service was not extraordinary, it was prompt and the large servings of food were all served hot.
Kscward
Disappointing dinner. After a long absence we decided to take 2 friends for dinner based on our previous experience which had been quite good. The satay sauce was bland and seemed to be made of peanut butter plus some flavouring. It was hard to detect what kind of meat was in the Kambing Kumah even though the menu says lamb. The curry vegetable had maybe 4 - 5 SMALL pieces of tofu in it. Rendang was one big chunk of beef and a miniscule pc next to it. All the dishes arrived barely warm. We were told coffee was "instant coffee" so we decided against it especially at $3 or $3.50 per cup! So called King Prawns are misleading. Note menu on web is outdated. Won't be returning.

How could you go wrong?. Ahhhh, finally a chance to write about Bibik Chan's or Bib's as it's affectionately known.
The venue is nothing special and the service isn't anything to write home about, however, nothing but good, cheap Indonesian/Malaysian food should be expected. The decor is pretty horrible, in fact you'll more than likely find yourself sat at an outdoor setting, indoors.
We went here as a group of 6 on a Sunday evening. As usual, we went overboard with the ordering as there are so many great dishes available on the menu. The rendang and nasi goreng are always a favourite, as is anything with the Palm Beach prefix.
The whole meal for us that night came to $90! We frequently wonder whether it is actually cheaper to eat at Bib's than to cook at home.
Nothing flash, just good quality and value for money. Highly recommended!
Food: 8
Atmosphere: 4
Service: 6
Value for $: 10

Always want to go back. Staff are always lovely and I love the quirkiness of the place...options eating upstairs or down in the garden.

Menu is well priced & food perfect for sharing.
Perthfoody
Cheap food, you'll pay for it later. Been here once before with the missus and a few friends. The food is ridiculously cheap, and tastes OK, and the service is just a bit under what you'd expect from a place that serves meals under $10.

Sadly, you'll really notice the food quality when you wake up the next day. Need I say more? Avoid.

Am I actually sitting in a restaurant? Lets not even get into the decor, I'm just wondering whether I need to be taken to hospital because i've just eaten the food. So, so bad. The Chinese on Broadway is better, and I cant believe I just said that.
Rucky
Quick fix. I laugh every time I step into this place - straight from the 80's, the same decor and seating and plates and cutlery for years and years - I didn't know that Corelle plates still existed.

Look, the service is quick, the meals are honest and simply presented, certainly cheap and no fuss. Not pretentious, not upmarket, not fancy - and that's the charm of this place. Definitely try the satay.
Aro
Don't waste your time. Ordinary food. Plenty of other Asian cuisine around. Try Bamboo in Subiaco
Margarita
Very very tasty meals and soooooo cheap!!! Two meat satay dishes with rice and two entrees only $35. You couldn't buy the ingredients and make it yourself for that price or authentic taste. Very good food, very good company, what more could a girl want?? Ok, ice cream ....

Ignore those comments from "Melbourne lover". This place is fantastic value for money food! Great service and warm but quiet atmosphere. Melbourne lover is probably still bitter about toll roads etc.

Threw Take Away in the Bin - Inedible. Ordered 3 different types of noodles. They all looked the same - no flavour and tasted burnt. Had to throw them in the bin. No meat or vegetables were in any of them.
Hungryagainperth
I fix the problem by first dunking the meat into the cup of peanut sauce then lathering on more of that same nutty sauce on top to completely saturate it with moisture. That sauce my friends, is good stuff.

Down Stirling Highway in Nedlands, Bibik Chan's has long been serving the locals some relatively cheap Asian cuisine. Bibik Chan's makes a claim that they serve some pretty good satay sticks. Given the use of words such as 'succulent' and 'tender', that's
