Review Funtasico Restuarant - Subiaco

Marsala Fusilli
Wasn’t very impressed. Ordered arancini balls ($18) with extra aioli because it didn’t come with any then when it came out they forgot the aioli so I had to ask them for it again and they brought it out late and still charged me extra for it. I got pan fried gnocchi with tomato, bocconcini and basil ($29). Pretty disappointed with it- the gnocchi portions were like the size of my fist and I didn’t see/taste any basil, there was hardly any bocconcini and they should have said tomato sauce on the menu instead of tomato.

Had some delicious pasta dishes here and they have lots of different pizzas too. Casual place with indoor and outdoor seating.

Nice and cozy place, with friendly staff. Delicious italian food.

Fantastic service, the waitresses and manager are so friendly and so attentive. The welcome they give you is warm and the way they host their guests is so genuine! I felt like having Italian so I looked up the google reviews and we decided to give this place a try. I ordered the creamy penne and it was nice but what blew me away was the service. We definitely recommend this restaurant and we certainly will be back.

Great friendly service, great quality food! Fantastico!

The food was delicious. The pasta was cooked to perfection and the meatballs melted in my mouth. The husband and wife duo of Andrea and Jenny manage the floor with elegance, warmth and authenticity. They make you feel like you’re in a family restaurant in Italy. Highly recommended.

AMAZING restaurant !!!we celebrated my nephews birthday, we were 16 people the dinner was perfect. The staff was welcoming and the service was quick. I’m ready impressed, the food was no less than five stars end the Pascucci coffee was delicious, is my favourite!!!!
Katherine
Enjoyed a delicious shared meal prior to a show at The Regal. Could not fault the service and the food was brought out very quickly. The aranccini balls and the gnocchi were superb as were the pizzas. Our group of 8 has no complaints whatsoever and I am sure we will definitely revisit. Thanks!

This month saw a repeat visit to Subiaco restaurant Funtastico. I’ve been there a handful of times now and have always had a great time. I can always rely on simple, quality food and thanks to a great host, I’ve often made new friends with other diners.

Awesome italian food with great service, my wife and I love this place. Always quality fresh food and great wood fire pizzas and staff are very polite, overall one of the best in subiaco

My friend and I went there on a Saturday night, without booking and were welcomed warmly. We got a table without a problem, although they seemed to be quite busy.

Food was delicious and the portions are good by my opinion. Pizza had a great crust and really was one of the tastiest I've had in a while. The meatballs were the softest I've ever had, anywhere. Really great food and I'll happily return on another occasion to try out the rest.

My friend and I both loved the waitstaff. They were busy but absolutely lovely the whole time we were there.
Matt_from_Preston
The place was quiet at 6pm on Saturday but was starting to fill up slowly and by 7pm it was quite busy. The Italian wait staff were excellent and friendly and got everything just right. The seafood spaghetti was excellent and came piping hot out of the cartouche into the bowl. The penne with chicken and gorgonzola was also said to be delicious. The menu is a bit pricey for pasta but the food quality and service made up for this. Would recommend for good Italian food in Subiaco.
After seeing all the 5 star reviews for Funtastico I was really excited to try this restaurant. Upon arrival, the diligent service and vibrant atmosphere set the tone for a wonderful night, but sadly the food didn't live up to my high expectations.
I ordered the ravioli which was stunning. It was light and fluffy with strong flavours that played perfectly off each other. However, it was way too small. I usually struggle to finish mains at restaurants yet I gulped this down in minutes. For a $30 dish I expected almost double what I got. Compared to the amount of food I have received at other similarly priced Italian restaurants in Perth, it fell short.
My boyfriend ordered the Cotelleto di Maile which, despite the fancy Italian name, was indistinguishable from a pork loin from any standard pub. The meat was perfectly cooked and full of flavour - just nothing special.
Funtastico is clearly a local favourite but slightly underwhelmed me this time. The menu is promising and I may return one day to try more dishes.

Funtastico Restaurant has been around for a long time, and I have been going there three or four times a year for almost as long. Always the service is polished, professional and helpful. The food is well prepared and presented. The pizza's are delicious as are the pastas. There is a good range of wines and beers ensuring most diners leave happy.

Looking forward to being back there next Thursday evening, amongst the busy and warm atmosphere that makes this place 'funtastico'.

Nice food and ambience, friendly staff, must tried spaghetti ala vongole and pizza
good location to chill with friends, like to comeback again 😃

The staff here are fabulous and the food is among the best Italian in Perth...people who eat well eat Italian LOL but yes seriously good place to enjoy yourself and great food at the same time👍

Partner and I trying to find a place to eat in Subi before our moonlight movies.
Hadn’t eaten here before so decided to try it.
Pasta was Devine!!! I could of had a whole another serve to myself. Ordered the blue swimmer spaghetti with cherry tomatoes.
The pasta tasted so fresh and the crab also fresh. It didn’t taste like it was out of a packet.
The pizza was nice but pasta was the definite stand out. We will return again for some more authentic Italian bites.
Take Me To Foodie Heaven
We had the Taglierini e Crab which comprises of blue swimmer crab, cherry tomato and chilli in shellfish sauce. The pasta was cooked perfectly to al dente and there was an abundance of crab meat in sight. It’s delicious with each twirl of pasta exhibiting a great flavour of spice, flavourful shellfish sauce and juicy burst in your mouth cherry tomato. Simply fantastic and fabulous!

Went here for our first wedding anniversary. We were disappointed with the food as we had a high expectation. Ordered their scallop, Taglierini e Crab, Risotto Pescatore and Steamed Vegetables. Their pasta was a bit tasteless as it didn’t taste spicy at all even though they had chilli in their shellfish sauce. Risotto was okay. Scallop was nice. Initially, we requested to be seated in a quiet spot but we ended up sitting next to a large group and the place wasn’t even half full on a Sunday night. We wouldn’t come back again.

Funtastico in Subiaco has been around for a good long while. In a suburb that has seen a lot of change in recent years, this restaurant has been a constant fixture. The restaurant has changed hands along the journey, but more recently the family that ran Funtastico from 2002 to 2007 has resumed ownership, with previous manager Nicky Tangney.

This is my go-to place after the footy. I'm happy to line up and usually don't have to wait for long. The kitchen is super-organised and the food and service quality is really good given the pressure they are under. I hope it manages to survive once the footy moves.
Chris.anthony
Came in last week honestly best Penno Pollo I've had so far. It was quick and nice service didn't wait too long for someone to take my order. Would definitely recommend

We used to be regulars here as food is ok, and we are local, even though food is overpriced. tried to book a table for my sons 10th birthday, and booking was refused, even though they had space, as they don't want children there. never going back. what an awful business model
Danny G
This is a non-review. Came down to say farewell to a friend stopped in for coffee and cake around 845pm the footy was just out we stood in the short line. Then we're seated to wait for a table in what was an almost empty restaurant. Then the footy crowd appeared and we were told to move on because we weren't doing a full meal. Not very nice and my wife told them as much.

Unprofessional and rude, upon arrival my pregnant fiancè was denied the table she wanted as the waitress said they would be very busy. Even though the tables were not reserved and by the end of the meal nobody had sat there so her father told the waitress he was not impressed to which she started yelling at him in the middle of the restaurant.. will not be going back thats for sure.
Karen Smith
Terrible, Awful, will not be returning. As a young pregnant woman I wanted a nice dinner with my parents and fiànce, we walk in and i request a seat on the couches and we are denied as the blonde waitress replies they will be busy. Not only are the tables not reserved and she was super rude but by the end of the meal nobody had sat there, so my father tells her it was unprofessional and she starts yelling at him in the middle of the restaurant. Couldn't believe such a once great restaurant hired a woman like her who has 0 customer service and such an attitude.
Richard
Fresh delicious food and so good like the ol' days. Really tasty dishes and authentic Italian. Friendly helpful staff and great vibe. Varied menu with lots of options. Wood fired pizza! Will definitely be back
Lara Harris
went for dinner nice place and atmosphere . we ordered pizzas and was good (nothing special) a little bit pricey in respect of what we received.
Debra Langham
Could not honour our booking for a table of 4 inside, as 1 person was unable to make it, were offered a table for 3 outside on the street pathway. Being Adele concert, did leave us much choice. Booking was originally booked until 5.30, but got told to leave at 4.50pm as the table for 3 was booked. Terrible way to treat new customers. Food was fantastic, but leaves alot to be desired with Customer Service by the owner.
Sally-Ann Allier
Great food. Great service. Couldn't have asked for better. Octopus starter was to die for. I asked for an off the menu dish of plain spaghetti with garlic and oil and they were very accommodating.
HappyPants
Very very average food and service for the $$$ they charge. The menu is a bit boring... only because it is located in the main shopping street doesn't mean it can last without providing top quality food. Four of us ordered a steak, octopus, lamb ribs, risotto of the day, seafood platter (deep fried battered prawns, calamari, scallops and fish). None of the dishes made us want to go back again.
Kjtee
This food is just outstanding. We are sick of the same old, same old served at most places these days so it is great to find a restaurant that puts flavour and "fresh" food on your plate. The Chicken Diavola and the Spaghetti Marinara are fantastic and we started with a shared entrée of Scallops on an artichoke puree. We finished with an Affogato and an Espresso Martini - simply the best! Can't beat this place.
Tan Ah Bee
Had the worse pasta! Pasta from the packet! Charge us more than it expected! Order 1 beer did not came then 10 mins later we asked when the beer is coming, they charge us 3 beers when they only bring 1, owners is arrogant! No good vibe at all! 1 hr wait for food when no one is there! Would not recommend people there unless u want to be scam! Nearly $100 for 1 main 2 tiny portion share 1 bottle of beer n 1 water!

Went to Funtastico last for the first time since the original owners have taken it back. The food, service and general comfortable feeling of the place was first class. It is casual but up market, the sort of place you feel welcome in. 10 out of 10 for the food, try the chilli mussels and the calamari, both are to die for. Highly recommended.
SweetPoison
We came here on a Thursday night. We were able to walk in without a reservation. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Service was prompt and attentive. Unfortunately the fish of the day didn't come out as hot as I would have liked. The risotto included 6 large tiger prawns which tasted amazing, however the rest of the dish failed to tantalise. All in all presentation and serving sizes were adequate.
Bee
Great wood fire pizzas and great pasta. I love their chili mussels in clay pot. I prefer to go there on weekdays for better service and food.
Evline_v
We walked in on a Sunday afternoon and were given the options to choose where to sit. Wonderful customer service. Good vibes all around. Totally enjoyed the seafood platter! Delicious ribs and spatchcock too. Lovely experience... thank you 😊
LittleGirlBigFood
This used to be the place to be! It is still good but its one of those places that should have stuck to the original menu.
The gnocchi are amazing as are the pastas.
Foodieperth
We came here for lunch on a weekday afternoon and ordered after 5 minutes. I ordered the Spaghetti Marinara served in a 'Cartush' at the table. When our food finally arrived (after 25 minutes of waiting), I noticed it was served in a paper bag, which they removed to reveal the spaghetti. I found the spaghetti really soft and overcooked, it became mush. The seafood was not fresh however the marinara sauce was good.
Kate
Shit management.Arrogant owner/manager and arrogant person as cashier.
Bad food.
Never recommend it to anyone.
It is a place where discrimination is obvious for the manager did not know they were dealing with professional engineers who just happened to earn 100 times more than them and who were just dressed casually.
Terrible experience!
Perth can do much much better than this arrogance filled restaurant whose food is terrible.

My partner and I visited Funtastico on a Sunday night, like we have done few times before. We were taken aback when within 10 seconds of entering the venue we were instructed by a young but severe Italian man to take our “hats off”, accompanied by gestures. Apparently he was oblivious to the cold weather outside and failed to recognize that we were already in the process of taking our jackets and beanies off. The same waiter didn’t seem to take issue, however, with the man who followed in behind us wearing a fedora. Fortunately the waiter who attended to us during our meal was a much friendlier gentleman. The food, as usual was delicious however unfortunately the visit was overshadowed by our obnoxious “welcome” from staff. I ordered the Spaghetti Marinara, not a condescending and unsolicited etiquette lesson.
Jamesz84
We hadn't been to Funtastico for quite some time (3 years?) as it used to be very good but then went through a prolonged slump.
We went for a family dinner this week and I was very surprised, expecting mediocre as I remember it had been for a few years but the food was actually really good!
Had a few pizzas to share in the middle for entree which were great, and had the spaghetti frutti di mare for main which was very good; nice seafood & perfectly al dente pasta. Didn't think I'd say it but will certainly be back, even for take away pizzas if anything.
Josh Dimovski
Pleasantly surprised with the food here! didn't expect much as I hadn't heard much about it, but the $45 steak was definitely worth it. Definitely will return
Mimifama
The Marinara was cooked in a paper bag and it came out piping hot, which was what I wanted on a cold winter night. But I noticed the sauce was lacking. Similarly for my hubby's pork and veal meatball ragu, there was hardly any sauce. The chefs should be generous with the sauce. It was the same problem when I had the chilli mussels on my last visit. Please give us more sauce!!!
Asharoonie
It is clear that this venue is family owned and run. The service is personal and warm even when the restaurant is busy. While the menu items aren't particularly creative or innovative they are delicious, beautifully cooked and well balanced. I particularly loved the calamari. It was so soft and buttery I will have to order it again.

Funtastico was FANTASTICO!! Excellent service the whole night, delicious meals, great menu. Welcome staff took into consideration our show time at the regal. Can't wait to go back already. Nom nom nom!! Well done to the team 👌🏼

Whilst waiting for another restaurant to open, jumped in here for a drink. Looks very fancy! Expensive menu but looks very appetising! Ordered a cheap 150 lashes just for the time being, and they insist on bringing your drinks to the table, which I thought was a nice touch however it took about 10mins for 1 cocktail and the beer with no other customers. My friend ordered the amaretto sour which I must say was quite delicious, but $24 for shit loads of ice. Staff were friendly. I probably won't be back unless looking for a top meal.
Ines
That place was alright. Didn't get any food because drinks were really expensive themselves and the pricing kept on changing. Asked for an amaretto sour I heard $12 then it turned into $16 and when I was about to pay it had finally reached $24. So $24 for an amaretto sour is not on by my standard especially when it is super acid. Friend got a beer it took also 10 minutes to come and it was just us in the place. Nothing to mention about the staff not super friendly but not unfriendly either. . The location is good but I don't know if I'd go back.

As the name suggest. Went there with my wife last week. Food, service and ambience every thing was spot on. Special thanks to Andre if I remember correctly from service and the old gentleman (owner) for making our expirence funtastico:)

Funtastico in Rokeby Road was something of a Subiaco institution – but then declined in reputation; however last year it was taken over once more by the original owners who have restored it to its place as a food destination in the suburb. We visited not long after that reincarnation and this week returned to see how things were progressing.

We have been going here for years and have never been disappointed. Tonight was no different, amazing food, great service and atmosphere. We had chili mussels and marinara which was to die for, we ordered more bread just to soak up the juices!
Brussels Sprout
Didn't even know this place existed until today. Standard fare Italian is offered with good service. Pricey by my reckoning, even for Perth. $29.00 for pasta is just way over the top, $33 for risotto ridiculous.
Courtney
Attentive staff and delicious food. I had the Funtastico Pizza, so good, especially the calzone half. Food came out a little slow but the waiter apologised and let us know it would come out soon. I'll definitely go again sometime.

It's been almost 10 years since I've visited Funtastico - it was once the place to be in Subiaco on Friday and Saturday nights with queues to get a table and a lively atmosphere - I visited often.

My memories of the food were fond so I was glad to see some of my favourites still on the menu. The spaghetti al cartoccio was a generous serve of seafood in a rich tomato sauce with al dente spaghetti and we polished off the lot - all that was missing was some bread to mop up the sauce. The gamberi pizza which used to come with extra large prawns and a soft buffalo mozzarella was flavoursome but overpowered by too much strong mozzarella and we didn't finish it. There's a limited number of wines by the glass.

Overall it was an enjoyable enough meal but it didn't quite live up to my memories. Service was lovely and attentive.

Was walking along Rokeby road along with a friend and decided to stopover for an unplanned lunch. Tried the potato gnocchi on a bed of Beetroot and goats cheese it was scrumptious. Was very impressed with the front of house staff, they were very warm and friendly. Will definitely be back for a complete meal :)

My wife had been here previously with family members and recommended that we try it together.

At first we weren't sure that we had walked into the right location as the décor had changed since she had last been. There is a somewhat industrial look to the place with lots of aluminium siding with high ceilinga and concrete floors giving the place an industrial look. The appearance is rustic using soft, understated colours and unobtrusive decorations. One can easily manoeuvre between tables to get some one part to another. The kitchen is open so one can observe all the processes of preparing meals, which applies an additional level of cleanliness.

Even the toilets were very clean though the area looks well used and a little patchy.

The drinks menu is comprehensive with a variety of beers and wines on offer, though I would suggest that more room be given to local breweries and vineyards than big, established names.

A broad selection is available on both daily specials and regular menus. We chose the lasagne from the lunch menu, with a side order of spiced peas, and the seafood paella. The paella varies from restaurant to restaurant so we tend to be pleased whichever location we dine in. Lasagne tends to be something of a treat due to our collective food allergies (we can each tolerate a limited amount of gluten and dairy). Certainly I have no disappointments with either dish – I finished my lasagne easily and my wife ate her fill of the paella.

Pricing was not unreasonable for a pretentious area like Subiaco – rents are surely outrageous for this area – though a little steep for Perth in general. Wait staff were friendly and attentive, though not inclined to hover. This is a good thing – I don't care to be ordered to enjoy my meal.

Certainly worth multiple visits and positive encouragement.

I went to Funtasico with 2 friends as a random and unplanned lunch on a Friday afternoon and was impressed by an efficient and competent front of house team. The wine list was limited - but the quality was good - and I especially enjoyed the by the glass NZ Sauvignon Blanc! We had the risotto (potentially a 'death dish') and whilst a tiny bit concerned about the separation of the grains of rice... the flavours were excellent - and the generosity of the scallops in the dish was amazing. With one of my friends ordering the pasta - I can only reflect his feedback of 'very tasty'. Overall - nice venue, efficient service and tasty value for money meals - without being 'wow!'For what they do, Funtastico delivered well executed, VFM meals - and I would happily return again ... knowing full well what the experience would be.

Ahhh! It's good to be back home after a three week pig out in Europe and Singapore. That first day back in the gym with the trainer wasn't too pleasant though.
I was in the mood for spaghetti marinara and there's only ONE place in Perth for it! Funtastico's Spaghetti Marinara cooked in a cartouche is absolutely mouth watering! It's a generous sized dish that's packed full of good quality fresh seafood and a divine napoletana sauce. For those who enjoy a fiery kick to their pasta, ask the waitperson for some sliced red chillies in oil.
Funtastico is also one of the few Italian restaurants where I can indulge in a seafood pasta without worrying about my Crustacea allergy. I'm more than happy to have scallops instead of prawns.
As we're reducing our waistlines, we ordered a side of the rocket, pear and Parmesan salad to mop up the sauce. Gotta have some greens with every meal and never forget to wash it down with Italian beer lol.
Funtastico is worth a visit for delicious Italian pasta, pizza and seafood/meat courses. The wood fired thin crispy crust pizzas are just as good as the ones in Italy.

Possibly the rudest owner we have encountered, we tried to book a table of 10 but were advised they don't take bookings. I arrived at the restaurant 15 mins early to ensure we could get a larger table and was seated but told 3 times that I may have to give up my table even though the place was partially empty. I wasn't offered a drink or menus, as others began to arrive we were told once more we may have to give up our seat..my husband requested the menus and drinks, he was offered a glass which he said yes to and then had to ask another 3 times for the glass. All in all our full party was there within 20 minutes and we were one chair short which staff were not at all perturbed about...granted it was busy but generally service was thoughtless and forgetful and we would have left if it hadn't have embarrassed one of our group who had recommended the place. The food was nice but the staff spoiled the experience for me, I would never go back and would def not recommend it when there are so many better serviced places to go.
Wine Libertarian
Food is still great, thanks to the Chef, but front of house does not live up to the food, the new old owner is to full of himself and forgets we are the customers. I will not be going back.
Joss Monnock
The best spaghetti marinara I have ever tasted! Was devastated to hear it had closed... So relieved it was only a temporary closure!! Welcome back, I can't wait to come in again.
Richard Walker
Utter shite
Won't be back
Incompetent waiters
Cracking lame jokes because food was late and burnt
Won't be back new owners need to address problems as subi is dying on its arse without this crap
Food 2 Run
First time back in a long time and it's nothing like I remember... Shame was so good before

Very poor service. Had to wait a long time for service, luckily the food was good. Bit pricey for what it is though. Had a birthday there and waitress tried to clear my plate when i clearly wasn't finished. I stopped her and she remarked rudely that it looked like i had finished. Unnecessary. Third time i went staff were rude again. Havent been back since, there is much more italian around with better service and quality food!

Funghi Al Forno. Delicious crumbed Portabello mushroom. The pesto and sundried tomato compliments it well

Sack the american manager.. I haven't been in funtastico for over 2 years now and what a surprise I got last week.
The previous green décor wasn't the most tasteful but It has now been replaced with a
disgusting orange/red.
We were greeted by the manager who was loud and rude to be frank, we were shoved at a booth at
the back were we had a perfect view of the dirty sink and the dishwasher peeling potatos.
Food was average, service was slow, wine glass was dirty, there just isn't the same atmosphere
there used to be. The staff appeared to be bored and unconcerned, and the manager spent her time prancing
around the restaurant, flirting with male customers and the language from her mouth was just vulgar.
I will never, ever, ever be back.
Also parking cost a fortune.
P_arrie
Not so great.. My husband and I decided to go, after a friend recommended this place for good authentic Italian. Well the food was good more like café food. Not authentic at all. Service was ok, they seemed tired and really bored. Also we were stuck in the corner right next to the switch board. For the prices I expected better.
Tanya Maria
Great Food. Went on a Thursday night for partner's birthday. I ordered pasta with seafood and he ordered the stuffed chicken. It is expensive, but the food was very nice. The pasta was filled with fresh seafood, so they didn't skimp at all. Service needs imporvement, and it did take a while for the mains to come out. Otherwise, great little place, but not at the top of my list. Worth trying.

Was it an oyster or was it a mussel?
Des
Des. This a great restaurant. It pumps out consistently great food. I go often with my mates and we are never dissapointed, hence we go often. Great service as well, and a reasonably interesting wine list. Some great wines are very well priced
Black Coffee For Me
We have regularly been going to Funtastico for over 10 years. It is a good quality Italian restaurant with fabulous variety menu, including wood fired pizzas and lunch specials.
I'm not sure what other Perth restaurants the people who say Funtastico is expensive are going to. I find it good value for money. There are meals that are more expensive but they are big serve and complete, don't need extra sides. Then there are smaller cheaper meals, so suits the smaller appetite. I have found the food to be consistent and the service very friendly and professional.
Today was as always very good, even though busy with a full house, football crowd. We had a lunch special of crumbed whiting fillets, stuffed with spinach and ricotta and salad $26.00, very tasty. Spaghetti marinara, which had heaps of good quality seafood $34, excellent. A couple of good quality Margaret River Cab Savs, $11 a glass. Finishing with excellent espressos $3.60 each, nothing expensive there.
If you are planning to go on a footy day booking is essential. The food and wine was the best part of today!
Super Bite
GREAT ITALIAN FOOD. We ate there on the weekend. The food portions were large & they certainly did not skimp with the seafood. Service could have been a touch faster but they were playing to a pretty full house. our experience was all in all a good one and I would certainly recommend it to others.
Im Watching You
Sssssnoby female staff. Very strange experience tonight with a female staff member that applied her make up on in-front of the service counter, prancing around the restaurant waiting for customers to acknowledge her. Moving forward...the steak was cooked beautifully and my australus pizza was great even tho it magically appeared 20min after everyone elses. Attitude needs to change in this restaurant, it is a Friday night and not even packed with customers. Its a NO from me!
John Astbury
Never let's you down, service is always spot on . My favourites are the risotto and pasta dishes fresh and delicious and generous serves. I always recommend this restaurant to any of my hungry friends.
James
Consistently Yummy. I've been eating here for over three 3 years. Either lunch or dinner, depending on the start time at the footy. I'm yet to be disappointed with the service, food or the great range of wines. I'm constantly impressed with the service from the knowledgeable staff. They're all well versed in the meals, both menu and specials. Yesterday I had the beef back strap ravioli and pea & ham soup entre, both specials. It was divine. Ill be having that combination again. I highly recommend Funtastico. Its consistently great.
Vanessa_becker
Me and my friends went there for dinner last thursday and we were all excited! As soon as we sat down we got some cold water and a nice french waitress took our order for drinks. It probably took five minutes then we already had our wines even if it was really busy. We ordered a super delicious gambero pizza as an entree and all of us had pasta as mains. I especially loved the faggotini! The timing when we got our mains was perfect and the waitress always took care about us! Really excellent service and excellent food!
There's nothing to complain about this restaurant! It was a perfect evening!
Ben5
Mmm yeh ok. Good: big servings, rich sauces on the pastas, friendly service
Bad: pricey, drinks even more pricey
Overall: probably not one to put on my regular list
GobbleDok
I visited here for a friend's birthday.
The restaurant ambient and decor is for more casual cheerful dining, so no wonder people think their food is overpriced. But their food size is bigger than other restaurant and I was happy with the meal.
One male waiter(Italian?) was great, his service was professional. He rememberd who ordered what meal(professionally write in docket anyway) and served without shouting"fish of the day?!" at table. Only him did that tho, so it wouldn't be the venue standard I suppose.
Talking Tastebuds
Overpriced and if your seated down the back of the restaurant there's an overwhelming smell of wet washing or even plumbing pipes. No parking unless you want to pay a fortune.
Pete Francis
Good quality napkins! And Oriana is just lovely...

Lovely Pasta, just like how I remembered. Delicious crab pasta and penne funghi! Came here with a girlfriend after an afternoon at the footy. I had been here years ago (way before Urbanspoon was around!) as a child with my family and always remembered having great food and an awesome time. Was a bit off by the Urbanspoon ratings, but gave it a shot anyway. We ordered both dishes to share, so only came out to $30 each which is quite reasonable for dinner these days. Service was OK- not terrible as other people may suggest, water topped up all night long - plus we were weird and only ordered one pasta to share at first, but realised we were still hungry after finishing and ordered a second one. Not a long wait between order taken and meal delivered. I would come back again :)
Em88
Completely overpriced for unimaginative food that took nearly an hour to arrive after ordering when we were the only people in the restaurant. Won't be going back.
Juan Grajera
Not worth the dough!. Bland, tasteless and overpriced. More rocket than my vegie garden.
Paula Hart
Ho hum. Maybe we ordered poorly, because other tables looked far more interesting. $80 for a mum and kid, no drinks on a Tuesday night, we were certainly expecting more. I had an odd calzone, which was described as ricotta and salami......... hmm loads ricotta, specks of salami and no herbs, garlic or anything to lift it beyond ricotta wrapped in pizza dough. woo hoo NOT.
Staff were nice, but nothing that made me feel that they were interested in my patronage.
Social Moth
Not as good as I remember it.

Was charged $38 to bring my own called for my son's 9th birthday, despite being told this would be ok to bring this when making the booking ....... for 10.

I've heard of corkage, but never cakeage.

Over priced & bad service. Got the drinks order wrong twice, had to ask 3 times to get tap water & food was slow, boring and bland. No wonder it was empty on a Friday night...

This is the third time we have had to wait for our meal as if the order had been lost. Firstly the waiter that brought our wine had absolutely no training on how to serve wine ( it was his first shift so really not his fault rather the fault of the employer for not providing basic service training). He brought one glass to little to the table and proceeded to pour the bottle between three glasses leaving no wine for the fourth glass that was missing. Secondly we waited over 50 minutes for our meals. We order a child's serve of Icecream to come with dinner to keep the toddler entertained while we enjoyed out meal. The Icecream arrived straight away and was devoured long before our meals had even begun preparation. When we raised these concerned with the wait staff they offered free coffees and desert. Some consolation given we had now drank our wine before our meal arrived, lost an hour waiting, there was no way we wanted to stay around for coffee. The manager also denied any responsibilty and claimed that we have 'unrealistic expectations' about length of time for food preparation - mate- if Jaime Oliver can do it for a fraction on the price then maybe you should tear a leaf from his book because you have clearly missed the point of customer SERVICE- there was no service. Appalling. I would advise strongly you walk 50m up the road to grilled and enjoy a burger rather than be insulted by arrogant and condescending management. I'm embarrassed I went back a third time but third strike you're out

Average restaurant. Standard Perth price. Food was ok. The wine was quite good (had a glass of MR Cab Sauv). Service was slightly below average. Food took a long time to arrive considering the restaurant was pretty empty. Waitress was friendly but a bit abrupt. We went with dimmi special but the discount wasn't applied to the bill, we had to remind them. If We're in the area & if it's convinient, we might eat there again but won't go out of our way.

Nice but pricey. I have lived in the area all my life but never go to Funtastico because it is just so expensive. When urbanspoon offered a 50% off special I jumped at the chance.

Even on a Monday night the place was far from empty; it always seems to be buzzing.

The two of us started with a pizza bianca to share. It was quite nice but nothing extraordinary. I then had the risotto of the day, which was a beautiful seafood risotto, which I ordered minus the scallops. It was wonderfully rich and creamy and tasted very fresh. The portion was very generous and they did not skimp on the seafood.

Despite being terribly full we couldn't go past a tiramisu. It was a real highlight, so delicious and creamy.

I would definitely love to go back, however the prices would usually rule it out. Maybe for a special occasion.

Very good. Went back for the pizza after suffering the worlds worst wood fired pizza at my golf club. The first one we ordered from our excellent waitress Sinead was ok but had a soggy base, not brilliant. Said this to Sinead upon her return.she commented that some people like a soggy base to their pizza. But that if we wanted a crisp base then Pasquale can do this if requested. We did this and the following two were outstanding especially the prawn one. We had sweets .icecream ok but the tiramisu only just ok.i think the tiramisu maker should visit la lolla (another excellent restaurant) and try theirs because it doesn't get any better.
All in all, found fantastic fantastic @ will be back. Make sure you request crisp base for the pizza. We only ate pizza this time but the table next door had the lamb racks. They looked good & they told me that they were very happy.
Peter Hugall October 23rd 2013.

Overpriced Food was nice bu.... Overpriced
Food was nice but the ambiance wasn't quit right for the prices they were charging.
There only seemed to be one waiter allowed to serve you. We were kept waiting for a long time for everything whilst other staff stood behind the bar and polished glasses and cutlery.
The food was nice but after paying $12 for parking and such an expensive meal we won't be eating in Subi again. There are nicer places on St.Georges Terrace doing steaks for the price of a pasta here.
Subi is just so run down. The most expensive parking in Perth, weeds growing through the car park pavements, stepping through broken glass and boarded up shops - Midland is nicer kept.

Thumbs up. Been here a few times and apart from some of the rude staff the place almost always has great food. love their cold cuts and their pizza.

Went in there for lunch this afternoon, and had the whiting filets. They were absolutely beautiful and the waitress who took our orders was very friendly and accommodating. Will definitely be going back there soon ! Good job !

Very below average not impressive. Went in there and had a pizza and pasta. Pizza was extremely doughy and pretty tasteless. Was extremely disappointed to say the least. Pasta was equally as bad! Worse still was the staff. I am not sure I have ever experienced a staff that is more rude than this place! They act like they are rock gods who are totally put out to take you order. Took over an hour for food to arrive with vitally no one in this restaurant. Not impressed.

Absolutely disgusting service
Walked in and there is this terribly rude guy behind the bar. Thought he just had bad day. Ordered, then proceeded to walk to back with my mate. The restaurant was virtually empty with maybe 4 people in total. Sat down and immediately the manager came swearing in a blinding rage screaming if you are going to sit crooked on the seat you can leave. This was done with every swear word I can think of!!!! He was actually spitting as yelled. My mate said that we just ordered and would like his money back. He said he can't do that. My mate said well we just paid for it and the money should be refunded. He opened his till then threw the money at my friend. I told him I would never set foot in his restaurant again. It was the most horrific dining experience in my life!!! Please, whatever you do do not enter that place unless you like to be abused and treated like an animal!!!

From the minute we walked in, the service was horrible. The waitress was rude and cold. She came to take our order a minute and a half after we sat down and was annoyed that we weren't ready. We ordered our drinks then our food but they came out in the wrong order. I've never heard if the food beating the drinks. When we asked if our drinks were on the way she seemed annoyed that we asked. Overall a really bad experience. Definitely wont be going back.

2nd time a winner!. I recently went to Funtastico last week and my partner and I had not been there since last year as we had a bad experience.

We decided to give it one last go as we live so close by. We could not be happier. The children were greeted by the owner who offered us children size portions for the kids which they loved and the service was far better than the last experience.

I enjoyed the crab pasta which was lovely and my partner had a steak. Little pricy, but the quality was outstanding and worth the expense.

Its got better since the old lady left who we heard swearing at staff the last time we went there, and the staff seem to smile a bit more as well!!!!!

Give it a go!

Needs new management. I used to be a regular in funtastico in the past few years.
I visited last thursday for the first time in 6 months
I was utterly shocked at the service and wait considering the
restaurant was so quiet
I put this down to the departure of the previous manager AnneMarie who was always friendly, attentive and appeared to run a tight ship when staff was concerned
The man who greeted us seemed put out and uninterested in our custom and the bar area was cluttered with young staff members hugging and chatting ,definately not the most professional greeting in the world!!
Food was delicious but def not worth waiting 55 minutes for a few pasta dishes!! The girl who cleared our plates did not even ask if we wanted coffees or dessert so we had them elsewhere.
Decent food but terrible atmosphere listening to the chefs cursing and shouting at eachother, the wait staff gossiping, horrendous night club music, and the toilets i wouldnt even use due to their dirty and smelly appearance
I will most definately not be returning here
Such a shame funtastico!!!

Worst customer service. ever. disgusting owner. disgusting service. do not go here.

Mouth watering ragu!. Happened to be in Subiaco with a friend looking for a bite to eat and stumbled upon Funtastico. The restaurant wasn't busy with the only other occupants seemingly owners / managers having a meal outside. Wait staff were a little bit slow off the mark (took a while to come and take our drink order and meal order considering they weren't busy) but food came out quickly. A bottle of wine, fettucine al ragu and fish of the day (crumbed and stuffed with feta) were very well received! Would definitely go back for the food - the ragu meatballs are mouth watering!

Still a winner. Went for lunch last week after about a 5 year gap, it's still excellent, the food and service were both superb. I had the risotto special of the day with prawns. At last it's great to get a good quality prawn in a dish for once. Others had the gnocci beef special which was very well recieved. The waitress was very helpful and attentive and the other staff were also friendly and professional. The only downside was that they don't do a kids menu (or it wasn't offered to us) which meant my young daughter had to order a full size pizza which she only managed 3 slices, the upside was the staff boxed it up for us and we had it for dinner!! I'm definatley not going to be leaving it another 5 years before returning.

Unfortunately we went to Funtastico recently for lunch for the first time. Appalling service, dirty plates and the restaurant smells. We sat for ages and finally, a very disinterested staff member took our order. 2 glasses of Mad Fish White and 2 entrees. Not hard. ( He forgot to put the order thru.) Another staff member noticed our displeasure as we were going to walk out. The meal came first, the wine second and the bread last!!! ( The wine was great, the food very average)
It was interesting to note the restaurant was only half full on a Friday.
There are many more restaurants that have brilliant service, good food, for the same price. This end of Subiaco is totally lacking.
Never again.
