Review Grind Coffee Bar Sunshine - Sunshine

Never thought I would be dining here as we were after the Cafe next to this one and we ended up so satisfied. The portion, the flavour, the combination, the music and the sauce in picture 2 next to the bread were all magnificently delivered. Highly recommend the Chicken Claypot and Steak Breakfast šŸ‘

Sooo.. looking for Breakfast as we had been travelling from Regional Victoria. This was beyond anything we imagined. Service, food and great prices. Best breakfast/meal in a very long time. Grind is definitely a hidden secret. Go support this amazing crew. Wish we weren't so far away.

Nice relaxed atmosphere. Good quality food and drinks. Great if you are looking for a quiet place for coffee or breakfast. šŸ™‚

A delicious steak breakfast. Never been disappointed with any option on their menu, I do recommend

Great discovery in Sunshine. Friendly staff and the food was delicious. A mix of western and Vietnamese. Nice coffee. Will definitely be back to try more in the menu. Thankyou!

- Passed by for a takeaway coffee. Restaurant was bustling so itā€™s clearly a favourite. - Fantastic and friendly customer service. Although there was only one barista (who was clearly under the pump), she was welcoming and accomodating. Since she was the only barista, this did mean we waited around 10-15 minutes for our coffee (but didnā€™t mind the wait). - More on the pricey side ($5.20 for regular soy latte), but will happily return. UPDATE: went back to try their Vietnamese Iced Coffee and Breakfast Plate! Both were so delicious and filling!

3.5/5. Grind was quite pleasant. We had the iron pot with kransky, a beef burger and herbed fries, and southern benedict. The ironpot was the star of the show for its homeliness and the beef burger was done well too, juicy and not overly greasy. The side of chips were also cooked so satisfyingly with a really nice tomato sauce thatā€™s not like Iā€™m used to. As for the southern benedict, it was okay. I think the pork was a bit sweet and too soft so on top of poached eggs and english muffins, it felt very homogenous. The chef was really friendly though! I was a little let down by the coffee though. Apparently the default coffee size is a mug (?? at other cafes, the default is a small). I tried to tell this to the manager (I assume) but found myself being interrupted several times before I could properly explain. I just copped the loss before being told next time I should specifyā€¦ there is such a thing as too much coffee, it appears.

Was absolutely impressed, lovely food, drinks with reasonable prices. Staff were also lovely. Will definitely pop in again when in the area : )

Tried this place yesterday, the coffee was great but the avocado on toast was absolutely tiny, hardly had any taste. Where's the avo?? My partner had scrambled eggs, bacon and hash browns which was a good size.

Been here a couple of times, very charming and a great local place in the western suburbs for some asian fusion!
The coffee and service from the baristas are great, they make you feel very welcome to try new things!

Service was prompt & friendly. Staff even catered for an elderly woman requiring assistance while I was there. Good deed for the day done āœ…
Coffee was lovely!
Chicken Pesto Focaccia was good. The homemade pesto was more like a tomato & onion relish but it was still a nice lunch.

The only place in all of Sunshine that serves fantastic coffee. But I have to say there old fashioned style freshly made hamburgers are my absolute favourites.

Cheap and cheerful! The coffee is delicious and food is pretty standard but fine for the price. I ordered a side of avocado with my breakfast (extra $2.50) and would be lucky if it was even a quarter of an avocado... Don't think the price is really justified for that!!! Otherwise great.

I've been here previously once before for a take away coffee however I don't recall too much of that visit.
I dropped by for a coffee on the weekend and decided to have it in.
And it was superb, how could have I missed this place in Sunshine?
Without a doubt in my mind best coffee in Sunshine. I had a glance at their menu too and I can't wait to try it on my next visit..
More on the coffee...
Distinctly Vietnamese beans and by this I remember the same flavour and notes from when I was travelling through Vietnam, more specifically to Hanoi and a little boutique coffee chain called Drew Coffee.
Coffee is smooth with nice sweet note and caramel aftertaste.
Beans probably sourced from Vietnam as it is their own blend, Da Lat maybe? :)
Atmosphere and decor is hipster enough as a well..
Homely brunch spot/ coffee catch up location in the western suburbs!

Interior design of the coffee is very woody, giving super edgy, lowkey and relaxed vibe. The menu was cute and easy to look through with photos to accompany its respectable menu items.

I ordered one of the specials on the menu, the Eggs Atlantic while my companion ordered a beef burger and a bowl of wedges. Within 15 minutes, both plates arrived, well presented.

My dish was very enjoyable, an eclectic spin on Eggs Benedict, with the smoked salmon adding the needed savoury note to the dish. My companion's verdict on the burger was on the ordinary side; but to be frank, burgers are a WOW or an alright. The wedges were stock standard, well fried and good amount of dipping sauces to complement.

Prices were very affordable for our dishes and drinks. Overall, Grind is a great place to go to in the Western Suburbs of Melbourne, I'm glad such a cafƩ can allow Westsiders enjoy a solid brunch!!

Stumbled across this place when looking for a coffee, while waiting for a car service.
I had the Thai omelette and it was really good! Reminded me of breakfasts in Thailand. Coffee was also excellent.
Highly recommend!
Food was amazing and cheap! Honestly the best scrambled eggs ive ever had, and without fail they are always amazing! alotĀ of options of food, sides and extras and the staff are all round lovely people and make this cafe a place i would love to be my local, sadly i travel a fair bit to come here but it is always worth it! Coffee is amazing they are no doubt professionals! would love the place to be bigger!

Food was great, and really cheap! The service was brilliant, the waiter who served us was really friendly and made us really comfortable. Would definitely go there for brunch again :)

This place does a decent cappuccino with soy milk. The breakfast order was a little disappointing though. I have had breakfast here before and the poached eggs i ordered were lovely and runny, however this time they came out overcooked, with a pretty solid yolk. The milk in my friends coffee did look funny too. The barista however made us aware of this as he served it to her and assured us that the milk was perfectly fine. Apart from the eggs the food was good, nothing amazing but a decent breakfast if you are in the area, not a place I would go out of my way to visit, but I will no doubt return for breakfast again at some point.

Friendly staff and good vibes from this cafe. Although, food lacked a little bit of taste. Good coffee but you can never go wrong with coffee

My GF and I both hadĀ vegetarian claypots which were delicious for brunch. The Coffee was flavoursome without being too bitter. Enjoyed the semi-industrial decor too.
Gigi
The claypots are nice and the coffee is good. I like the variety of coffees and matcha drinks. Staff are chill. The place has a decent ambience too, with a modern yet homey interior feel.

I loved the feel of this cafe, very relaxed. We were seated immediately, and had a very friendly waiter who took our order promptly. We ordered the steak breakfast(?), eggs atlantic, and the Thai omelette. All were very good, however the poached eggs on the atlantic were slightly undercooked. The Thai omelette was wonderful. Great value for money, and they serve Halal chicken, which was a big plus for us. Our waiter did forget my coffee order, though. However, when it was later made, it had to be one of the best iced coffees I've had in a long time, and it was also taken off of our bill. A really great cafe.

Food was ok, was not too impressed. Coffee was good and made well. Funky interior and on trend. Service was fine and wait time standard. Average overall. Which is ok.

Great local all day breakfast varieties, friendly and fast service, my favourite was the clay pot delicious rice and grilled chicken with salad.
Vietnamese coffee was also available as well as the normal variety of hot drinks.

Hands down best place for Brunch in Sunshine.

I ordered

Almond Latte with Honey.
They brewed it just right and texture and temperature is perfect.

Vegetarian Burger with two poached eggs on the side. Burgers are better than Hungry Jacks :P
Eggs have a distinctive zest to it.

Always get really great and friendly customer service here! This is my go to coffee place on my way to work as they offer lots of milk alternatives such as almond and coconut milk and serve really great coffee. I did order the hunter breakfast the other day and would consider it really great value for money, my only complaint would be that some of the meats and mushroom came out quite cold. My friend got eggs benedict and said that it was tasty and good value for money also. Also would highly recommend the Vietnamese iced coffee.

Went to Grind for lunch on a Friday. Very busy little cafe, a bit understaffed which in turn made their service a little slow. Friendly waiter. Food was pretty good, I had the beef clay pot, and the coffee was great! Best coffee in Sunshine!! Worth a try.

If going to Grind was a crime I would be a repeat offender. I have been frequenting grind for over a year since moving to Sunshine. I still remembering building flat packs and trawling Zomato for a local cool relaxing feed (moving houses is stressful) and found Grind. From the first sip I knew I found where I belong .
Grind is a small modern Vietnamese fusion cafe. They offer from your standard big breakfast to iron pot eggs for breakfast along with burgers and clay pot dishes for lunch.

Coffees are amazing and consistent I used to drive past every morning before work for a brew but expect to wait as police often grab coffees from here. ( I've been late one to many times for work and had to sadly stop coming mornings for a brew šŸ˜)
During summer their fresh juices or Vietnamese iced coffee are perfect šŸ‘Œ

FAVOURITE BREAKFAST/BRUNCH/LUNCH SPOT IN THIS AREA! Seriously delicious options, great staff and great service!!! Obsessed with their hash browns especially- a must try! You will not regret coming here !!
MrCheesy
Came here for brunch, we ordered the Steak Breakfast and Big Breakfast (with extra hash brown) with a side of wedges. I was told the steak breakfast was very nice and the meat wasn't over cooked even though it was on a sizzling plate. My big breakfast was average, would have liked an extra piece of bread or bigger pieces and the sausage was different but nice.
Dad-Ventures
It's Friday lunch and time for a Dad-venture! Today my sister Jo, her BF Matt and I headed to Grind in Sunshine to see if this local cafe was WORTH it.

The Vietnamese drip coffee was the ultimate and probably the highlight of my week (yes I said my week). The coffee and condensed milk were perfectly and delicately mixed. The coffee had a caramely texture that was rich in flavour. I could have had another 2 more!

For lunch I couldn't look past the lamb burger. The bun was soft and delicious, and the lamb patty tasted homemade and fresh. The side of herb chips were tasty but I just couldn't get over my obsession for the Vietnamese coffee!

Jo ordered the Thai beef salad which was presented well and tasted great with its sweet chilli dressing that subtly complemented the salady goodness.
Matt got stuck into the BBQ chicken Claypot, but I didn't really know how to ask him to share some. It looked great though and was packed with good looking chicken.

Grind is a relaxing, well priced cafe that has a real family feel to it. It's not pretentious at all, and I will be definitely coming back for some more coffee!

My verdict: WORTH IT, with mains costing under $13.

Always head there whenever I'm looking to have really good coffee, good food too. Decent pricing and the friendliness there never disappoints me. šŸ˜

Coffee was great and mine had a little cat in the foam (bummed I didn't take a photo!!). Food was yummy and not over priced like a lot of cafes these days which is always a plus. Great, relaxed atmosphere and the staff were very welcoming. Will definitely keep coming back!

Glad to see places like Grind popping up in Sunshine. Good coffee and I love that there's no minimum card limit (unlike their neighbour...). Have only ever dined in once and we were offered complimentary raisin toast because only the end pieces were left. Fine with us! My go-to local coffee spot on my weekend walks.
Roi_777
Fresh little spot in the heart of Sunshine. Have tried beef curry, egg omelette with rice and mini cheeseburgers.
Food and service on each occasion have been consistently good although, parking is limited out front of cafe. Next nearest is next door at Market place.
Bec Brient
Great place.
Service is good but sometimes can be a small wait when busy.
Always get the BBQ chicken and it is delicious.
Good coffee.
Brother and sister team who work there are are an asset to this cafe.
There is some good but lots of bad with this cafe! Waitresses look absolutely miserable, not a hint of a smile to be seen. Cutlery was dirty, had to ask for replacements 3 times as fork after fork had crusty food on them. Barista saved the day as he was welcoming and made a good iced Vietnamese coffee! Music was a great mix of old school and new R'n'B. Will comment on our dishes below:

Southern Benedict - pulled pork with sourdough, poached eggs, hollandaise sauce and apple slaw (actually just plain apple cut into strips).. pork was tender but very sweet, hollandaise was way too buttery and unnecessary!

Clay pot with Kransky- egg, tomatoes, spinach, mushrooms, cheese and kransky.. this dish took ages to come out and just seemed like ingredients thrown together into a clay pot. There was super sweet chutney down the bottom which threw everything off balance, and way too much cheese!!

Will not be returning for food.. may return for coffee.. if only for the coffee art seen in other reviews!!

This is my regular haunt when I am working at Sunshine court. The barista makes amazing soy chais and the claypots even though feel like they take a life time to come out, hit the spot every time! Service is always exceptional.

Been a regular since the first time a friend took our group of friends here. Honestly can't find a more nice convenient local place for a coffee or meal!

I'm not an overly intelligent person so I came here because I thought it was a gay pick up joint and I'm really tired of not being able to get sex with my coffee. In these modern times you'd think there'd be an eatery with a sex club attached but unfortunately this is Melbourne and Australians are conservative and boring. None the less the idea is ripe for the picking and I expect to be paid royalties when cafes with sex toys, blue movies, grope mazes and glory holes start popping up.

So very rarely do I get a chance to swan about in Scumshine but when I do I usually hit the food court for authentic Chinese food (lemon chicken) or Two Sisters but I'll leave reviewing those fine establishments for another day. As I was in the neighborhood at lunch time and driving by I decided to risk lunch at Grind and boy was I pheasantly surprised. First I had a coffee because that's what you do. The coffee taste like coffee and better than NescafƩ but it's not my place to criticize instant coffee, I remember the days of International Roast so it was a nice coffee. For lunch I had the beef clay pot and delighted in the equity of perfectly cooked and tender cow meat, variety of colorful, crunchy vegetables and delicious rice. As a meat eater (and no im not ashamed of that, half you vegetarians have no morals and just avoid dead animal because you're obsessed with your image, cellulite or fear of being reincarnated as a battery hen) that values nutrition it's always nice to come across a meal with the equal portions of meat, vegetables and carbs. It's also something the guy at the gym tells me I need if I'm to maintain the amazing muscular physique I don't have.

Whilst eating my clay pot I noticed numerous sexy cops attending for coffee which made my meal even more delicious. Also, it's comforting to know there's cops in downtown Scumshine especially since there's "Dob in a drug dealer" posters everywhere and half the suburb looks like they'd happily knife you for $10 but these are the elements which make a suburb appealing. Also, Leigh Bowery was from Scumshine so it's basically the birthplace of Australia's Pablo Picasso so be sure to come and bathe in the glory of a wasteland suburb on the verge of gentrification because there'll be pretentious losers everywhere before you know it and you won't be able to say you'd discovered it first. There's also a Big W and Donut King in the plaza FYI so be careful because terrible things happen at the plaza. People get beaten and they're not even dressed up as clowns but sometimes fresh, hot cinnamon donuts are worth risking a beating for. But you'll be fine at Grind as it's dislocated from the plaza and the edgy bliss of the car park... just don't dine outside unless there's cops with guns hanging around.

Just had a very disappointing experience at this cafe. I asked for poached eggs not over cooked or too runny, which came out rubbery and unpalatable. There were two minuscule pieces of bacon which barely covered the toast. My partner ordered a big breakfast with a side of avocado, which had signs of mould on it, and which he said tasted off. As for the service, again very disappointing, rather unfriendly and almost like there was no passion in being in the food service industry. We both left feeling a bit sick, and obviously won't be returning. This has to be one of the worst eating experiences my partner and I have had.

One of the best coffees that I had, great strong vanilla latte along with the great customer servise makes the experience very enjoyable. Promised me to draw me something nice on my coffee so I am very much looking forward to my next visit.

At a later date : THESE AMAZING PEOPLE KEEP THEIR PROMISES!!! This coffee looks amazing!! Also the eggs Benedict was made to perfection.
Jake
Food is really delicious. Menu has many great options but shame the service was really poor. Waiter brought out incorrect cutlery, wrong drinks and long delays between each of the three meals to be served,
so if you don't mind watching your friends eat their meals while you wait for yours.. this place is for you
Kim Tran
Hospitable and friendly staff, very welcoming :D

Always come for a perfectly poached Egg Benedict for the price of $10 (along with smoked salmon). Not a big fan of their coffee beans, Vittoria, but you can expect a well-made coffee by the barista. The selection of their menu has quite a variety a mixed of western burgers and Vietnamese dishes. Had a few claypots in the past - decent for the price I will say and lacks a bit of flavour. Got to say their cheesecakes are de-lish! (Even though they're store bought)

The atmosphere can at times be loud and rambunctious, but mainly relaxing with their good taste in R&B.
Jasmine Velickovic
A trendy little cafe hidden in Sunshine. Ā I was served the most amazing Matcha latte - worthy of a prize! My grandma and I ordered the Claypots and they were so delicious. I loved the atmosphere and the choice of food was great. I will definitely be coming back here on the regular.

This place is on the right track. Well meaning service, good coffee and tightly run menu executed well. With its quaint hint of Vietnamese flair and modern decor, it certainly is a welcome cafe to have in the West. Probably just need to be careful of not trying to have and do too much, and decide what it wants to be. Definitively commit itselt to being a cafe, and not a take away shop, would be warranted. Losing the display of unsavoury sausage rolls and pasties, for example, would help. I hope Grind keeps it understated, elegantly simple and keep pushing out great coffee with a smile.

I had lunch here with my partner and ordered the lamb burger and my partner ordered the pork ribs with rice. The menu is very confused and it got me questioning whether I was eating at a western cafe or a Viet restaurant. The burger was okay but the patty definitely tasted mincey like it was home made which....is not terrible...I guess. What I wasn't sold on was at the end of my meal I ordered a coffee to take away. The waitresses there seemed very inexperienced, she didn't write down the coffee order and attempted (and failed) to remember it. She struggled to relay the order back to the barista who was trying to make all the coffee orders and run the floor all by himself. He seemed overwhelmed and rightfully so. There was no staff running the floor and when they were they looked lost. We waited at least 15 minutes or more for our coffee only to NOT ever get it and go next door to Found 401 for it instead.

Went for lunch with my daughter. We had the beef & vegetable with rice and the grilled chicken on rice clay-pots. They were both very tasty and great portion sizes for the price. Staff friendly and relaxing environment. Didn't try the coffee, so can't comment. Will definitely go back. So great to have places like this in Sunshine ā˜€ļø

First time to review a restaurant ever. Experience that good, I had to share my wonderful experience. I felt like I was in McDonalds, my meal was a "happy meal" - smiling coffee and very pretty smiling rice. Beef stew very soft and perfect for a nice winter morning. Very popular w/ local working community. Thanks for the nice meal guys!

Good service and delicious food, not a big fan of omelettes, but really enjoyed the Kransky omelette which says a lot. There's not many decent cafes around this area either so this place is so refreshing.
Paul Huy Bui
I've been a long time customer and I love the atmosphere here. I always get my morning coffee here, sometimes getting some breakfast as well. They also have a large selection of cakes and desserts to have with your coffee.

Went for lunch on a Saturday. Had the beef burger and lamb burger with chips. Both burgers were great and the chips were crunchy and well seasoned. Will definitely be going back.
VanDamme Nguyen
Extremely underrated.
Had the eggs benedict with chips and a sugar cane drink on the side.

Eggs from the benedict were beautifully poached with the right amount of hollonaise.
The chips were beautifully seasoned and a bottle of tomato sauce for free!
Usually, sauce would cost around 50c-$1 for a small serving of sauce.
But the grind allowed us to take the whole ketchup bottle.

Sugar cane drink is good. What's even better is that it was only $3.5

The atmosphere in this place is amazing. It's nice and modern with a few board games on the tables. Customer service was spot on.

It was my first time at this cafe today, and i fell in love with it instantly.
Probably the best cafes in sunshine, having a great variety of western and asian options.

Keep up the great work guys, you've found yourself a regular customer.
Pacman
Love this place, the staffs are friendly and the claypot dishes were nice even tho they didn't use the claypot to cook, the BBQ chicken, Beef claypot really nice. Goat curry is good to try as well. They also hv the western dishes. Nice coffee and environment. Now this cafe become our weekly lunch choice.

Very friendly staff, great food, Awesome coffee.
Would definetly come back here to try everything on the menu. I will be definetly be telling all my friends about this place

Such a warm welcoming place, from the moment I stepped into the venue, up until I have departed, the staff have treated me as if i was of their own.

Plenty of variety from rice to stews to noodles and even breakfast all day ! Not sure what place can offer you some bacon and eggs when you have a late night and wake up and its 5pm.

I have ordered the BBQ Chicken on their main menu. Wait times are not long at all when you enjoy your favorite coffee, before you know it ; the food has arrived. Meal comes in a nice bowl, upon opening; an array steam is released and a wonderful aroma fills the cozy place. As satisfying as the coffee, the food is scrumptious and bounteous, I almost couldn't leave I was so stuffed.

Definitely will be back to sample more of the menu and some coffee !

Good come here

I came in during their opening week and have been many times since then. Really nice to actually have a good cafe/eatery in Sunshine. Their staff are friendly and the food has been always fantastic, especially the BBQ chicken and brownies!

They make some quality coffee also!
Daniel Bamyani
Very friendly staff, great and warm decorations and the most important was excellent coffee and breakfast. The price is so cheap only 15 bucks for a big breakfast included coffee.
Will go again 100%.
