Amazing and authentic Afghani food. Quantity was good as well. Had Mantu, Chapli Kebab and Afghan rice with mixed kebab skewers. Will definitely visit again if I get a chance.

Amazing food & very generous portions for the price. Very friendly service. Very clean & well maintained premise. We ordered the lamb kebab and well mince kebab. It came with a generous portion of bread on the side. Very happy with the experience!

My favorite place for Afghan kebab in the west! Very fresh bread baked on the spot! Very delicious chicken and lamb, also cooked while you wait!

Went there today for the first time. Ordered kebab, and jilebi. Paid and advise i will pick up at 5pm. When I went there there was full tray of jelebis but what she packed me at 5 pm was all the broken pieces and soggy ones. They have taken money at 1 pm but did not bother to pack fresh ones and waited after the tray finishes to pack with broken pieces which did not weigh half kg. Extremely poor service and not recommending to anyone.

Absolutely delicious, highly recommended!!! I think we've just found our new go-to place to grab a guaranteed, consistent, flavoursome and simply delicious dinner in Sunshine!!!! It's a great mix of dishes that are available here, Afghani, Pakistani, Indian, overall a great menu with many offerings to satisfy a wide range of tastes. I've never liked Indian food much and have tended to steer clear of Indian restaurants as I just don't like curries, overpowering spices, nut-flavoured sauces or yoghurty, milky, creamy type sauces. Luckily as this place serves a range of different dishes that aren't just Indian, it is the absolutely PERFECT place to go out to dinner with someone or a group of people where some like Indian and others don't. Another thing worth mentioning about this place is the great value!! All dishes on the menu are very well priced, so you can be sure you'll get delicious food that will satisfy your taste buds, yummy bread that's sure to fill you up and all at very affordable prices. We got 2 main meat-based meals between me and my fiancee, a serving of rice, two servings of bread and she also got a mango lassi, all for under $40!!! I ordered the Saag Goat which was just simply delightful!! Saag is a spinach-based sauce that just tastes amazing, highly recommended!! My fiancee ordered butter chicken and she thoroughly enjoyed the flavour. I gave it a quick try and I didn't mind it too much. It's probably the best butter chicken I've ever tasted, but then again I try to steer clear of it as it's not a flavour I personally enjoy. Though as she loved the taste of it (and she's quite critical when it comes to food), you can be assured that if you're a fan of butter chicken, you'll love it here!! The garlic roti bread as also an absolute joy to eat! Another thing worth mentioning is that their menu had an awesome selection of vegetarian dishes too, so this would be a great restaurant for a group of people where some are vegetarian! Oh, and I almost forgot to mention, it's absolutely beautiful inside!! The chairs and tables are just lush and have a very high-quality vibe about them. Overall, highly highly recommended!!!!

Maybe for me, the place don't seem at restaurant by definition, I wanted recib a recomendation from the wraiter but she was someone who don't know what she sell. The food is good maybe the salad didn't be fresh but it is taste. They serve the entries after the main.

Flavours to rival some of Melbournes top restaurants, Afghan Shaheen at Sunshine delivers traditional middle eastern dishes full of punch and flavour at a very reasonable price. Service is friendly and the atmosphere welcoming. Well worth a visit and travelling for.
Dad-Ventures
I woke up this morning and decided that today Charlie and I were going to Venture into the Sunshine CBD in search for some new and yummy cuisine.

This Dad-Venture was going be like none other, I had thought up a little game that we were going to play!

The rules were simple: We had to eat somewhere new and,
It had to be a place with the best-looking pictures on its shop front, signs or window menus.

We walked up and down Hampshire Road scanning the many south-east Asian restaurants, the new trendy cafes and the bustling bakery’s and were about to give up hope when suddenly we stumbled upon Afghan Shaheen. The exotic street sign was glowing red and displayed a great big eagle which sat above silhouettes of camels. We both knew that we had found a success with our little game.

As I walked in I was immediately impressed with the niche décor. Royal marble inspired tables lined the restaurant and were paired with almighty chairs that made me feel like an Arabian prince.
We were ready for a royal lunch. However, what we got was simply not as majestic as we had hoped.

The Goat Saag curry was very tasty and the spinach and spices worked well with the creamy texture. However, the portion was fairly diminished for the price and I found myself stealing away all of the roti that seemed to be overly portioned.

Our second dish was the Chapli Kebab which consisted of four overly grilled lamb mince patty’s beside a salad. The lamb patty’s were as dry as they looked and the salad was covered in pepper. I found myself cutting the lamb into tiny servings for Charlie to swallow and scraping off a lot of the pepper on the salad.

My Verdict: Unfortunately, Afghan Shaheen doesn’t get my “Worth It” approval with mains under $14.99.

Thanks for reading our Dad-Venture. We have so many new and exciting things coming your way soon. Be sure to check out our new Instagram @dadventuresofficial and, a link to our brand new website will be coming shorty. Stay tuned.

Food tastes great, full of flavour and delicious. We had:
Butter Chicken - Leans on the sweet side but pleasant.
Lamb Saag - Subtle, lamb was soft and did not have any game taste.
Aloo Gobhi - Spiced up cauliflower never tasted so good
Cheese Garlic Naan - Airy, bready.
Dessert - Not sure what their names were, but wow, very very sweet. Best enjoyed with a strong tea or coffee.

Staff were friendly, very patient they even through all the types of desserts available. Seating very comfortable, old school grand style. Only qualm were the plates to dine off were greasy before we even used them.

This rating is based off the taste alone, I can’t fault their curries and reasonable prices.

Always come here for the desserts. So creamy and mouthful of flavour. Highly recommend this place for afghan desserts. The donut ball with maple syrup is amazing

Tried this place a while ago, had the afghan rice with mixed kebabs. Nice generous servings. The service was decent. The lamb kebab was amazing, loved the spice rub on it and would definitely go back for more of those! The chicken and lamb mince kebabs however were okay.

Why an Afghan restaurant has all indian menu....? Seems shady.
Anyways...the food wasn't great. Not sure what they are trying to serve afghan, indian, a questionable fusion...!!!?

not sure why the standard of afghani food has dropped so fast in last 1-2years.

we ordered a mix meal (2 chicken and 2 mince kebab) and kabuli palao.

the mixed meal came with two chicken, one lamb and one mince. had to tell the guy we ordered two mince kebabs. he brought one after some time.

rice were v cold. they looked like they were from previous day and the guy just microwaved it. told him again to heat it. he warmed it slightly but it wasnt hot.

overall i give 1/5 for whole experience. food should have been fresh but it wasnt :( not going there again!

Beautiful local restaurant! I have not had Afgan food before but decided to try this place because the menu had some of my favs (butter chicken, samosas). Service is friendly and attentive. Prices and portion size are very good (2 adults shared 1 entree (samosas), 2 curries, 2 breads, rice)!!
The flavours - AMAZING. Highly recommend the chana masala (chickpea curry). Have been here few times now and the food is delicious every time. Very good takeaway service too.

Definitely a hidden gem for Afghan food! Cannot highly praise enough the perfection of their kebabs! The samosas are flavourful and cooked perfectly. They also have a bakery and sell pastries. I never leave with out some freshly made gulab jamun and chocolate roll for my son! Highly recommended if you’re in the area!
Spice Up Your Life
Great hidden gem for Afghan/Pakistani/Indian. Favourites are Mantu (because I love any kind of dumpling) goat curry and rice (we always order two!) and the mixed kebabs. Service is great and you can let them know your spice level which is good.
They cater for all taste buds and you can even have a good chai tea and sweets to finish your meal.

Got food delivered. It arrived quick and hot. Was missing the dip to go with the bread. Salad has whole pieces of onion just thrown in.
However the lamb and chicken skewers were nice and the indo chilli chicken was delicious. The rice was good too. They are also generous with the bread serving. It's a bit pricey but good to try

Came in for a quick dinner before our movie, meals are very well prices and generous, we ordered the onion bajhi which was great, then the afghan rice with mixed kebab, Mixed Kebab, Cheese Garlic Naan and a dish of the chicken Saag...it was all amazing! Especially the chicken kebab and cheese Garlic Naan, we were so full we couldn't even walk. Service was also good and the sweets all look delish! Would definitely recommend this place cant wait to go back.

It's supposed to be an Afghan food restaurant, it's mostly Indian food now, if I wanted Indian food I would go to an Indian restaurant

Yuuuuuuuum! Delicious food! All very tasty. Great for kids too as 'Mild' is chilli-free, so really is mild. The staff are friendly, the deserts make you drool even to walk past the window. A great alternative to so many many Vietnamese restaurants in the area too. A new regular haunt.
Bargain!

Terrific place - always friendly people. Delicious food - try the Manta (afghan dumplings) and pretty much everything else. Oh. The rice - Kabuli Pulao - is also delicious.
We've been here few times and never a bad experience ...
Update 21 July 17 - this place is still the best!

Been there a month ago, it was our first time ever had Afghan food, very similar to Indian, and Turkish, but couldn't understand why Indochinese dishes too?! Because it's at sunshine? Need some Chinese dishes on menu?
Other than that very tasty food, didn't order any Indochinese dishes, as don't think it really appropriate for Afghan restaurant. We ordered grilled meat plater and Afghan dumpling. Love them! But it did took ages for food to be serve. I think they should improve that, even though there were only other 2 tables and maybe 2-3 take away.
Ohh the decoration were over done for a causal restaurant in Australia, but I think they just try to bring their whole culture here and make them feel like it was in Afghan.
Overall we like it and will be back to try other dishes.

This is one of my favourite restaurants in Melbourne. I've never been disappointed by the food here and the staff is lovely. I always get (and recommend) one of their kebab dishes - they offer a mixed kebab dish, chicken kebabs, or lamb kebabs. You get 4 perfectly cooked kebab skewers, salad, dips/sauce, and plenty of fantastic bread. The skewers have a wonderful smoky bbq flavour that makes my mouth water every time!

This is not a fancy restaurant and that's something of a plus in my books because that translates to very reasonable prices - the value for money is unbeatable. I highly recommend this place.

Magnificent mixed kebabs, fresh flatbread and lovely sauces. Great price - recommend! Not a posh place, but friendly service and a nice feel to it.
