Review New Saigon Restaurant - Surfers Paradise

Amazing food and great service. We eat here and get takeaway all the time and it is always fantastic. Absolutely love the salads, they are delicious! But you cant really go wrong the soups and stir frys are brilliant too and the summer rolls and crispy fried quail are great starters! So many amazing flavors, very authentic and reasonably priced. We are blessed to have this lovely little restaurant on the end of our road!

Its true the service can be a little slow, though it is run by a husband and wife team on their own, We have found that arriving early is the best way to get great service before the busy dinner rush arrives. I read the other reviews and noticed the only two that are low rating didn't get to try the food. If the actually had the chance to taste the food that is filled with the aromatic favours from the fresh herbs, most likely would have given a much higher rating. As the food more than makes up for anytime that that you may have to wait, be patient people it is well worth the wait

I have been to this restaurant more than any other in my life at least 20 times and takeaway about 15 times. New Saigon has never failed! Great food great service great value we regularly meet friends there and often see other regulars like Pat and June with their friends. Highly recommended!

Hated it. In fact we didn't even get to try the food. Booked the place for dinner, and sat at the table for over 45 minutes waiting to be served. Went up to the counter several times to see if we could place an order, only to be told to sit back down and he will come serve us very shortly, which did not happen! While ignoring our every request and serving other customers that had arrived well after we had been seated, we got up and left, going to chiangmai Thai restaurant down the road, which was a fabulous experience. New Saigon, what a complete joke to be given 5 stars and to even call yourselves a restaurant. P.S I'd also recommend you hire some part timers rather than having 1 chef and 1 ridiculously rude waiter trying to serve a full house. If I could I'd give this place a zero star rating and added inappropriate words in this comment.

The best pho ga on the Gold Coast so far! We’ve only recently moved down from Brisbane and have been searching for a good pho. Fans of Vietnam having been there 3 times recently, we have a little idea of an authentic pho. Highly recommended! Not to mention, have just spoken to the owner and he tells us they are retiring and the property is on the market! Not happy Jan!!!!!! 😫😂😆 The Kelly Gang

Service with a frown. Unfriendly, unwelcoming, not a smile in sight. No high chairs. Not family friendly. The man "serving" us was very abrupt - told to get our own water from behind the counter and watched carrying it with 5 glasses and toddler on the hip - there were only 2 other customers. A shame really because the food was decent.

Small family place, been a few times and loved it every time. Takes a while to get the meal but it’s worth it. Always has Vietnamese people dining as well!

What a great little restaurant! Super friendly service and a great range of food at decent prices. Phuket prawns and Summer rolls were definite favourites. Ate there twice during our week stay on the Gold Coast... it was that good!

Stayed at the crowne plaza for work and thought I'd give this place a try since it's right across the road from the hotel. Ordered a veggie green curry with steamed rice and the owner was VERY clear in showing his displeasure due to the fact that I wanted to pay by card. They have a minimum of $30 AND a 3% surcharge which is too high if you ask me! He told me that I was "lucky" that it wasn't a busy night and that he would "allow" me to pay by card "just for today". At this point I wanted to leave but there aren't many other vegetarian options around so i sucked it up. The food itself was good, the curry was fragrant and fresh, lots of vegetables and some fresh thai basil and kaffir lime leaves. It's just a shame that the service was very average and the food overpriced as lots of other people mentioned. The interior has zero atmosphere so it's definitely a take away place in my opinion... Would I go back? Meh, I'll do more research around the area next time and try something else.

Nice, authentic Vietnamese restaurant run by very lovely people. Pho noodle soup was great and full of flavour. Will definitely go back in the future!

Quite standard cuisine. Not much of an atmosphere. Food wasn't to bad, though not worth the price. Rice paper rolls were tiny. Service quite slow as we waited around 25 minutes from our entree to get main meals. Would we go back, wouldn't be the first choice.

Small and a unique Vietnamese resto. The noodle soups are to die for. Spicy and authentic. This place is run by the couple so please be patient until you are served. I would recommend you to arrive at 5.30 pm when the restaurant opens else it will get really busy during the peak hours. Will definitely return.

2798 Gold Coast Highway Surfers Paradise QLD 4217 +61 7 5538 7588 http://newsaigonrestaurant.blogspot.com.au/ GOOD Vietnamese food is extremely hard to find on the Gold Coast so it’s a luxury that I tend to go without – I either wait until I’m back in Melbourne for my bun bo hue fix or I attempt to make my own pho broth. So when a Tinder match suggested we go to this ‘really, really authentic Vietnamese restaurant on the Highway,’ my ears pricked up. ‘Authentic Vietnamese restaurant’ I sceptically asked. ‘Yeah, the venue is really cool – it’s like you’re sitting in someone’s house and the food is cooked by their grandmother or something.’ ‘Okay, this I gotta see!’ I was as excited as I was today when I heard that The Book of Mormon musical was finally hitting our glorious shores. YESSSSS. But then Mr Tinder ruined everything with this question: ‘So, is pho Vietnamese or Thai’ In hindsight, that should have been a warning sign to abort this meet-up immediately. If an Asian guy can’t tell me what country pho comes from, then should I really be trusting his judgement on what constitutes ‘really, really authentic Vietnamese’ food? It didn’t matter anyway; we were finally at New Saigon . Housed in a beautiful timber house in the middle of Goldie Highway, the restaurant’s bright neons signs glittered as brightly as the sequins on a metre maid’s bikini top. Inside, a bustling atmosphere greeted us as we took our seat. It wasn’t a full house that night but it was busy enough – so much so that we did wait more than 30 minutes for our food to arrive, unusual for a Vietnamese restaurant. Prawn and pork rice paper rolls (four for $9) We started off with some summer rolls. To be honest, they weren’t the best I’ve had. Not only were they skint on the filling, the rolls themselves were tasteless. I struggled to eat just one. Crispy chicken and vegies in sweet chilli sauce ($16.50) My companion ordered a decidedly non-Vietnamese dish, a strange choice for someone who claimed that N

Sorry, not sorry!. This is the worst food I have ever eaten. I have never complained about a meal I have eaten at a restuarant nor have I ever had to write a review, but this was horrible. My partner and I love Asian style food, so we decided to try this place out as we were staying at Crowne for my birthday. We arrived at our booking 10 minutes late so the owner made us sit outside even though there were spare tables inside which stayed this way all night. He also said we had to come inside to make our order as there is no waiter outside. We waited almost 25 minutes for our entre and ice teas. Our main meals then didnt come out for another 20 mintutes after this, however only 1 came out and we waited another 10 minutes for the noodles. When this 2nd meal came out it was cold, and I don't mean warm I mean freezing cold to the point I had to ask the owner to heat it in the microwave. The worst dining experience I have ever recieved! Worst service, long waiting time, and prices were expensive for how crap the food is!!!!

Bún Chả Gi. Fresh as. Can't say much more than that.

Very acceptable asian dining perfect for an unpretentious affordable informal meal ... Fast friendly service ample parking out the back. Give it a go no worries.

We had a wonderful dinner, the place was packed and our dinner came without delays. It was very good, the sour soup was amazing, we also had Báhn Tâm and salt and pepper squid. We shall return!!

Slow and unpolite service. Food below average. Avoid!

Having just been to New Siagon we were highly disappointed. The food was less than ordinary, namely the so called satay chicken and salt and pepper squid which was oily, flavorless and questionable if it was fresh, the service was poor with only one working front of house and one in the kitchen. We will not return here, as with a $90.00 bill we feel totally ripped off.

Amazing effort. I couldn't believe that this husband and wife served the whole restaurant on their own on a Saturday night, and did it better than many with much greater teams.
Having said that, don't be in a hurry and forgive the wait because it is worth it.
The food is great, the value outstanding and the service although a little harried and slow at times is always polite.
I had the green papaya salad and the prawns were tender and generous and my companion the pancake, texturally very interesting if not really a healthy meal. The soups were great and I recommend these to start, or something else, so you don't have a big wait.
I will be back on my next visit to the GC.

Best cold rolls on the Gold Coast!

We went here a couple of nights ago because we craved food from our heritage. Reading all the reviews, it seemed very promising. However, upon ordering the traditional beef noodle soup (Pho) and spicy beef noodle soup (Bun Bo Hue), these two dishes were far from authentic. A proper Bun Bo Hue should have a lovely lemongrass fragrance with a good hit of chilli and the colour should be a crimson red. However this soup was dull, lacked the proper flavour combinations and had no hit of chilli whatsoever. It was overpriced, but being Surfers Paradise, it was expected. The gentleman serving us didn't seem very friendly at all, maybe he was stressed, but we just didn't feel welcomed. Good effort on him and his wife, but we won't be returning here if we want truly authentic Vietnamese food.

Great Experience !. Wow, what a discovery, an authentic Vietnamese Restaurant on the Gold Coast ! food is great here, we tried the spicy rice noodle soup, vermicelli with spring rolls, and summer rolls. I was also impressed with "333" Vietnamese beer. Service was good and this restaurant will not break your budget as all dishes are reasonably priced. Try it.

Authentic vietnamese food, friendly good service but a little slow cause but its worth your wait. Its a family business the wife is the cook & the husband is the waiter. Must try!

Amazing food!!. New Saigon has the freshest and tastiest Vietnamese food I've had the pleasure of eating. The rice paper rolls and vermicelli salads are so full of flavour and just explode in your mouth! Sometimes there is a bit of a wait for the food but it is definitely worth it.

the Banh Khot, these little coconut and turmeric shell of crispy goodness had prawns on top and very fresh lettuce to accompany them. Absolutely beautiful and totally worth it!

Vietnamese cuisine is scant on the Gold Coast, but New Saigon arguably serves the most authentic, ‘un-westernised’ national food you’ll find here.
In pride of place are three dishes which Hai says are most typical of South Vietnam: Bánh Xèo – a crisp Viet pancake wrapped around a filling of prawns, onion and bean sprouts with accompanying herbs and salad, served with sweet chilli sauce; Bánh Khot (Khot Cake) – small round crispy coconut cake filled with cooked prawns, coconut sauce served with a large side salad; and Bánh Tàm
