Mexican cuisine has long been a favourite of beachside dwellers, and La Diosa Mexicana gives us some of the best. Bowing down to the goddess of all things Mexican, La Diosa pays homage to vibrant, fresh Mexican food: small bites to party on, tacos for a quick lunch, margaritas to lead into the weekend and sangrias to prepare for the week ahead.

Friendly quick service. Food was excellent. I would definitely say try this if you like Mexican food that’s so much nicer than taco bills or Fonda.

Modern Mexican, in the Fonda Mexican mold. Fresh, beachy vibes, fresh flavours. The tortilla chips have a zingy lime salt generously sprinkled on top. Baja snappers tacos are simple but the each part of the tomato salsa, avo guac and fried fish is allowed to shine. But it's the scallop chorizo tostada that I'll go back for... That plump flesh and smokey snag and crisp base is classical.

La Diosa Mexicana opened in Surfer’s Paradise a couple of months ago, and though we missed the opening, we took the opportunity to take up an invitation to visit when we made a trip to the Gold Coast. “La Diosa” translates to “the goddess”, so the name of the restaurant means “The Mexican Goddess”. There are a number of goddesses in the Aztec mythology, and it is not evident which one in particular they are paying homage to. Given the bloodthirstiness and sacrificial demands of most Aztec deities though, perhaps it is more a figurative than literal reference.
