Review India Gate - Surfers Paradise

Matt Ward (PossiblyMatt)
Was there when it was quiet. Was given fast service and had an excellent meal. In the top half of Indian options I've tried over the last few years. Dishes were on the spicier side which I personally liked but it caught out one of our group who preferred milder dishes.

This is a place with a very pleasant atmosphere. The Hotel Staff is very friendly & they make the food according to your taste buds. The tea & the food is to die for. I would highly recommend India Gate to anyone who is visiting Gold Coast. Indian food in Gold means India Gate. Three cheers to the entire team for making our stay memorable & making us feel in home away from home!!!

Poor customer service and below average food and cheap looking furniture.

Worst Indian food our family ever had in our life and ended up paying 65 dollars for 2 bowls rice, 1 cup mushroom curry, 1 cup channa masala and 1 kids small meal. The restaurant is of very poor standard and it even took us time to figure out the waiter. The waiter was standing wearing fancy dress as if she is a fancy store sales girl, so ridiculous. Both curries we got on the table was 1 cup boiled mushroom and 1 cup big yellow peas mixed into disgusting gravy of fried onion, tomato and stomach cutting putrid spices due to which my family is still suffering after 2 days, my ass_is burning and our fart still smells like we have eaten something from the wild forest though we could not more than half of the food on the table. We love indian food but never into this restaurant again, please go to any other restaurants around Surfers Pde but not here.

Dont really understand the bad reviews the food was fantastic and the msn who served us all night was a great bloke and very giving. We were given extra sides and a free dessert and wine..i would highly recommend this place to anyone..Gagandeep is a great cook and a very generous and polite man.

Terrible. Do not waste your time and money. People go to a restaurant to have food by paying but the lady at the Recption treats you like she has to pay me to sit and eat there. No smile no greetings no courtesy. We asked about SDA 15% discount; she checked with the owner and said NO , we can't. I showed her the screenshot of the discount available though SDA. . Then she ha a chat with the owner and said they are not even aware about it. Rubbishy disgusting customer service.

Chicken soup is hot as hell and tastes like nothing with a fe pressed chicken cubes in it. The lamb dish was fine (can't remember the name) but expensive for that you have to order rice as well (8AUD coconut rice, really..?) Naan bread was baked to black. Mango lassi was more watery than everyone I had before. We didn't finish our dishes and asked for take-away, they just placed the plastic boxes in front of us. Staff that had an armageddon face. The free water was "warm" and from the tap. Avoid it if you eat in, take away main dishes might be okay.

I dont know about the other comments, my wife and I liked the food we could barely eat it all due to the large portions. The waiter was super friendly, thanks again.

Dined here with six children and two adults while on holiday, and were looked after by a very gracious host who was more than happy to accommodate six children’s needs. His recommendations were great - picking curries that suited their individual tastes (given some older children dislike hot curries, some younger like spice, and there’s a vegetarian to boot.

Good food..
Butter chicken is good, pit sweety.
The mango chatny is really good and you don't want to miss it.
Dal is also nice. You need to ask for spicy food if you like it like this.

Decent restaurant. We tried the lunch deal for $15 each and ordered kadhai paneer and chicken. It was good and the quantity was fulfilling as well. I would go there again.

Stopped here for some lunch few days ago. Ordered chicken Biriyani and prawn vindaloo. Prawn vindaloo was tasty but overpriced. The chicken Biriyani was so bad. You can't really call it Biriyani. Tasted anything but that. So disappointed. Also there was a weird smell inside so we decided to sit outside instead. Definitely wouldn't go back.

Very bad food quality. We ordered Chicken briyani but it tasted like fried rice with no raita or gravy. The rice was so dry. This restaurant is very pricey for the food they offer. Don't waste time and money here!!

Visited the restaurant twice, actually thrice. The first experience was okay. The second time they didn't serve us as they had shut down the kitchen at 9:30pm but the time mentioned on Zomato was 10pm. The third visit went horrible. First of all, i feel that they have a single gravy mixture and they make all the curries in it. We ordered 4 different curries and they all were the same. On our first visit, they gave us mint sauce and spring onion without any charges but on our third visit we had to pay an additional 6 bucks for the same. The food was undercooked and the chicken was of low quality. The service wasn't of the standard one would expect and i also felt that the waitresses were a little too arrogant i can say. It was as if they were doing us some sort of favour. Overall this isn't close to the "Indian Cuisine". I would rather recommend you to walk down to the Taj Palace restaurant for something better than this.

Good was quite bland. I asked for an extra hot Madras and it tasted the same as the mild butter chicken. The chicken tasted cheap. the naan breads were huge and cooked well.

The restaurant is ok. The food quality is ok-to-good, but the staff needs to do better. They seemed as non-interested as ever. It was surely not worth the money, and for saag paneer lovers, don't ever go there, the worst saag paneer ever.

Excellent selections of Curry! The server was also very adept and answered all of our questions about the different styles of Curry that was available. Overall, a good experience.

Customer Not Welcomed. I went there for afternoon tea and to have some samosas and pakode. The waitress greeted us and showed us the dinining menu.
I think she misheard me and thought we were there just for tea. She said we don't have tea.
I felt her response was such thinking we were only going to spend for tea. So we had to leave.....India Restaurant without Chai or Masala Tea???.......hmmmm

Worst ever tasted. Got some curry and rice for takeaway on the last night of our honeymoon holiday in Surfers. We love Indian food and have tried dozens of restaurants and takeaway places. Ordered Rogan Josh, it was nasty and cheap tasting; the worse we had ever tasted, could not eat it it was so bad. The rice was also very dry and tasted only half cooked.

Awesome Indian food. We came here not expecting anything and were really surprised at how good it was. We love our Indian food and would recommend it to anyone. Great portion sizes, friendly staff and great prices too.

Never disappointed. We've been eating at India Gate for 8 years and have never been disappointed by their service or the quality of their food.
They are always quick to seat us and take our orders, the food is always amazing and the serving sizes are great.

The proportions are quite appropriate. A little bit disappointed that they didn't have many Indian beverages.

The worst place I have visited. Had to wait for more than an hr for my food. Not great. Won't recommend anyone.

Diner. Great little restaurant we found on Urbanspoon. Food was authentic Indian, very good and tasty and inexpensive. It is a shame we do not have one like this near home.

Great food. Great prices. Classic Indian and highly recommend it. Service was also a winner

I wasnt unhappy with India Gate, but I thought it was a tad expensive and the portion sizes could have been a little larger. Having said that, it was a pleasant experience all 'round with very good service. Would I return? Probably.

This is my second time to this restaurant, and it has impressed both times.

We had very prompt service. Unfortunately the first staff was disinterested in serving us, because he was talking with a friend, but the lady staff was very polite and attentive.

We ordered the Garlic Roti bread (which was beautifully cook... Crisp, and beautifully caramelised garlic), samosa (which are hand made with a beautiful strong curry flavour inside, served with a mint sauce), lamb Korma (which was succulent, in a beautiful creamy sauce) and Chicken Tikka Masala (which had an amazing depth of flavour with strong coriander and capsicum notes).

The restaurant DOES serve alcohol, and has service with a smile.

I feel that this food is very traditional, which would explain why there were many Indian families inside.

The only let downs were the first waiter who rushed to serve us, and there were some very drunk, homophobic customers who were being very rude and loud, who make dining here uncomfortable. Aside from this, I felt as if I was in India.

**The Lamb Korma and Samosas do have some heat. If you don't like this, go for a mild chicken dish.

Would visit again.

First class spicy indian food, going again tonight.

Authentic Indian cuisine, full of flavour and spiced as an Indian curry should be. Excellent service, very quick, good sized portions not too much to leave you bloated but sufficient. Good value for money. If you like genuine Indian food you will like the Indian Gate.
