Review Max Brenner - Surfers Paradise

John B Schilt
Decided to give this bakery a go, notwithstanding some of the negative reviews posted here. I was pleasantly surprised. Had a beef and mushroom pie, with mashed potatoes and peas and gravy. It was served hot. And it was fresh and delicious 👍👍👍

Decent mud cake. The dozen or so, in the office certainly finished it quickly. Would purchase it again. They do have an amazing range of cakes. Or if only buying for one, the vanilla slices, flourless chocolate cake for one or Neenish (Sorry about the spelling )tarts. See pictures below. My partner really likes their pies. Thinking of getting a large handful for the football game called the State of Origin for My partner and his friends as they watch. Very helpful lovely staff. Extremely tasty food.

Never open on the days you would think a bakery would be ... Sour service

Honestly I feel bad writing this but bad selection, outdated options. Massively overpriced. I also got a six pack of stale rolls. Definitely not from this morning. Dang. Do better
Lets Eat,Play & Stay
got there abit after 1130am. Pie warmer was pretty empty. Asked for bacon and cheese sausage rolls...only one. Asked for 5 sausage rolls and was told they will 10 mins. Got them and they were warm at best, Kids eat alot of sausage rolls and said that it was average,so I dunno how it won best sausagerolls as stated in a review or somethingI read.my pepper pie was meaty and tasteless, all I could taste was the pepper

Always a great place for coffee and cake
Quetzal Coatl
the worst pie and coffee ever tasted in my life. they microwaved for 5 min and baked for 1 min, soggy and instead of having veggies it has a paste, really not good.

Max Brenner is creating a new chocolate culture worldwide. This chocolate avalanche indulgence at its finest..it was loaded with nuts...brilliant fudge brownies...smooth and melting chocolate ice cream...and ofcourse to add more joy to it..we had more of chocolatey goodness in those small bowls. Ahh surfers paradise has one very delicious joint to fix your chocolate cravings. More power to @maxbrenneraus
I wish i could give a ratting of 100 for all the brilliant and incredible desert spread that they have. hats off guys !!
.
Exquisite place to have desserts. Heaven for chocolatiers!!

🍫 We shared waffles and a chilli hot chocolate, both were da bomb 💣
💵 You get what you pay for.
🧟‍♀️ Service... well, I think the girls were just tired. End of the day, the energy levels were lacking.
🍃 Tables were gross, covered in chocolate and other people’s dishes. Had to clean up a table myself so I could sit down.
👨‍👩‍👦‍👦 Family friendly.
🚘 Be prepared to walk a few minutes to restaurant front door.

I could eat their chocolate all day!! Exquisite! Certainly my favourite place to get my chocolate fix with so many different choices.
I’m blown away!
Only thing that grossed me out what a Pidgeon on the table inside pecking at food on a dirty table, not something for in a chocolate cafe.
I would eat here again in a heart beat!!

Anyone with a sweet tooth and like chocolate would love this place. They’ve got super indulgent chocolate desserts and drinks, but the price is pretty steep.
Aimee.
We ordered the chocolate fondue for two. We chose milk and dark chocolate and they were paired with bananas, strawberries, marshmallows and banana bread. Everything was super cute and well presented and the chocolate was delicious.

Was good but not really what we expected. Value for money was not great, paying $20 for waffles and receiving dry toaster waffles (although the chocolate sauce was nice). Customer service and atmosphere was also lacking, not being greeted or acknowledge when entering or leaving the restaurant, which made it confusing knowing how or where to even order?? I probably wouldn’t eat there again considering there are more options (in close proximity) that we know to be well worth the money.

We stopped by Max to pick up something sweet to celebrate being in the Gold Coast - opted for the Giant Bald Head Truffle - because that is how much we were craving chocolate!

This beautiful truffle is as big as a small ball and filled with chocolate with a mousse-like texture. It is light and airy while also being deliciously rich and silky. The truffle has a hard chocolate shell and is dusted off with dark cocoa.

We did a takeaway and paired it with a HUGE Starbucks black coffee. Perfect combination and great to have in the evening before a long walk!

Price: $9.50 for the truffle. Well spent.

Service: Friendly staff, not too extraordinary,

Waited 30 minutes for a Fondue and when it finally arrived, the banana bread was stale, the bananas were under-ripe and the strawberries were small, bruised and one had mould...never again

Max Brenner do quite nice fondues and hot chocolates.
I also like their display of chocolates that they have for sale.
We were very satisfied and full after dining in here for dessert.

(Edit: Very confused about their managements comment below)

two of us came on a friday morning, the place was almost empty. we ordered chocolate fondue to share, there was no option other than milk and dark chocolate? i can have caramel in other max brenner. in addition, no grill for the marshmallow..a bit dissapointing.
anyway it's chocolate..so there's almost nothing that can go wrong 😊 i prefer the milk chocolate though
Sarahhhhh
Worst experience! Stay away from this place and their extremely rude staff! Ordered 3 chocolate soufflés and before they brought it to the table I grabbed my wallet and headed to the register to go add on vanilla ice cream scoops, as I opened my wallet the gentleman serving me said "oh no don't worry about it". The soufflés arrive and a staff member walks up to the table and has a go at us for not paying for the ice cream saying "we shouldn't have done that" and "how dare us" it was quite embarrassing for me as that was certainly not my intention. Rather than attacking a customer why doesn't management deal with their sleekly employees giving out free extras!

My husband and I went in just for a coffee . The staff seemed smug . I had shot chocolate and my husband a flat white Our cuppa s were both cold and my hot chocolate didn't even taste that nice .

Was here on 2 nights out of 3 for desserts when in Gold Coast - what more can i say?

Exquisite place to have desserts. Heaven for chocolatiers.

The prices may seem high but they are absolutely worth it for the kind pf quality they offer.

The crew is warm and friendly as well. They help you select and guide all through.

Must, must try the party mess for two.

Keep munching!!

Ciao!! 🍷🍷

Very nice hot chocolates and pretty decent coffee. I would surely recommend it if you are in and around surfers paradise....and it is at a central location.

1.5 only for the location and ambience ...really don't know what's all the hype about .....60$ down the drain ordered brownie and a lava cake with chocolate icecream and chocolate mess party..... how can a chocolate bar go wrong with its chocolate sauce ,brownie ,lava cake and the chocolate Ice-cream ....there is no taste of chocolate in any of the products sold in this place ....anything brown and gooey when heated does not become chocolate ...Guys please please use good quality Swiss chocolate ..... U guys are running a "CHOCOLATE BAR"
Eduardo Dias
Well, what I can say about this place...

This is one of those places you go when you wanna please your body with delicious types of sugar.

On the first day, I had a traditional lava cake with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce, it was quite good. The second day we had a chocolate mess party for two. The cake was delicious and ice cream combination with sprinkles was evil.

Do a favor to yourself and go to this place only when you are not on a diet :)

My friend highly recommended the chocolate souffle. But the white chocolate cheese cake I got was not as impressive. Love that it came with strawberry and chocolate sauce though. Would be great if we added ice cream.
Elletee
I had the chocolate soufflé. Very nice although despite the staff's assurances it didn't need cream - it did. Exploding chocolate shot didn't seem to explode - the exploding component seemed to be very much stuck together. Maybe I left it too long before drinking.

Waffles are amazing and so is the banana pizza. Prices are a little high but the quality of the food and drinks are worth it. Do recommend checking it out for a treat

Chocoholics and coffee addicts unite! Managed to get my chocolate and coffee fix in one hit. A bit pricey but quite justified. Love the layout too!

Was this a joke? My family and I spent 40 minutes for a simple order. Wasn't busy. We went to remind them about us. Went three times and the manager Orrie J clearly didn't care. He was rude since we made de order. Wasn't friendly, didn't look at us when ordering and when my sister asked what flavours where on the Manu he rudely said 'whatever you want'. Finally we were speechless when he refused to refund a horrible chai latte tea and talked behind us when we left. Never apologised for this long wait. I could see that the work environment was bad, disgusted to be in this place. Waitress always acted like scared of something or someone. Don't recommend this place unless you want be treated like shit.

I'm a chocolate lover and I love going to Max Brenner! There is plenty of chocolatey goodness to choose from there menu and depending on what time you go service is relatively fast. My favorite thing to get is the chocolate truffle. If you don't want to choose from the menu there are lovely chocolate and sweets to choose from to take home or to make an excellent gift from. The coffees here a great, with the chocolate melt on the top! One very delicious restaurant.

Thought I'd give this place a rate seeing as though I came here a few times ages ago. It's not cheap. It is yummy though but you need to be absolutely crazy about chocolate to get through a meal and be okay with rich sweets. Probably a place to go very very occasionally.
Foodie Fiend
Max Brenner is the perfect place to fix your chocolate cravings! The Surfers Paradise store is probably my favourite joint on the Gold Coast. Not always the fastest service but you'll always get good service. And after your chocolate overload goodness you can always go for a lil' stroll around Cavill Ave to walk off your food baby and get a breather. Because seriously if you didn't get that I'm so full/I can't breath/I need to unbutton my pants feeling... then you just didn't do Max Brenner right. #sweetthoothheaven

Glad is always open till late, so we can still have a place to chill out. love it since the very first time, still love the tutti frutti waffles and the fondue for 2. just the best way to cure the sweet tooth and a great motivation to hit the gym the next day. =p

Best restaurant for chocolate lovers and people with a big sweet tooth as the sell everything! It's so good definitely will be going back soon!

A friend suggested that I visit this place and so I did. We tried out the strawberry dipped chocolate and cappuccino. No complains about the chocolate here.
Every dip of those strawberries in chocolate was like heaven. I've not giving them a 5/5 for 2 reasons. Firstly, the tables were not cleaned. We had trouble finding a table as everything was left as it was. They definitely need more staff! Secondly, the cappuccino which my husband ordered was not an ordinary one. As per the picture, the chocolate bar was supposed to melt into it from the sides of the cup. But they did not serve it that way. Apparently, they ran out of chocolate. They should have informed us before we ordered.

I had very high expectations of Max Brenner and wasn't tooo impressed with their hot chocoate, it tasted pretty standard and the ice cream used in the sundae could have been better! I would like to come back again and get the banana sundae though, elements used in the dish were tasty and had good texture like the malt balls and waffle pieces. Also the melted chocolate was pretty good

Max Brenner... It's all about chocolate. As a matter of fact you can subjectively claim that they're is the mekah of a chocolate lover.
Their iconic picks is the suckao. It's an original creation. a shot of white milk on a small candle burner (that looks like a aromatherapy candle burner), with a small plate of chocolate chips (you can choose dark, brown or white chocolate chips). And a special spoon which made of stainless-steel tube with a scoop at the end. Unique & functional to scoop the chocolate into the heated milk while you can suck the cooked mixed warm chocolate milk straight into you mouth.
If you don't like that sort of gimmicks, you can order hugmug warm milk which you can drink straight away without all the trouble...
They have pizza too but u like your regular pizza, it's a pizza bread with marshmallow & chocolate sauce.
And if you like melted chocolate, chocolate fondue is also available, which you can dip strawberry, banana, cakes or marshmallow into the chocolate dipping sauce using their special tosser (it's a long fork that a kind of mixed design between fork & long stick that you normally use for barbeque).
Price issue: it' a little bit premium, but still affordable & worth for what you're paying.
When you have desserts here, make sure you're not in a rush & have long hour to waste, because they're pretty slow & sometimes the queue can be seriously time consuming.

Beautiful treats and coffee

Terrible!! 40 minute wait on drinks as it was clear there was not enough staff on, drinks were cold and expensive . Complete waste of money!!
Tony
2 x very ordinary coffees. I guess that why they make you pay first. Gold Coast.
Cate
Cold hot chocolate. Expensive, slow service and cold hot chocolate
Waste of money
Tahlia
Boring with weird mugs and not a lot for allergy sufferers ie gluten free

This Max Brenner at the Mirage is the best place in that complex for a great dessert. The other coffee shops are a huge disappointment and Max Brenner does not disappoint anytime I go to one around Aus. Service was great and good delicious. The waffles are terrific!
Terocs
Drab and boring. Max Brenner has gone so down hill. Servers are all nice and cool, but they just prepare the stuff in front of you now, the interior is all old and lame. The chocolate displays are so dusty and the chocolates look dry and like nobody has every bought one.
Their new menu looks like it was put together in MS Paint...
Shame.

If only this place meant you didn't get your daily intake of calories in one chocolate coated strawberry, I'd go there more often. Everything I have tried here has tasted great, heaven. I've only been trice but haven't been disappointed yet. Not that I'm expecting to be. It's expensive though, so expect to pay big and get small. Probably a good thing, unless your keen on diabetes or want to put on weight. Either way I love this place, go there in moderation :)

I love it!!. Words cant describe how much I love the hot white chocolate. So good. This place never lets me down. I know what I want, I know what I am dreaming about and that is what is served consistently every time!!

Disappointed... :(. My friends and I went there for drinks and chocolates one night. I was counting the minutes in line, as the queue was out the door. It turned out to be 32 minutes. I usually don't mind waiting, I can see that it's busy and I'm with my friends having a chat anyway! So I'm fine to wait at any restaurant as long as it's worth the wait!

When we got to the register, there was no "Thank you for waiting" or "Sorry about the wait". At this point I had realised why the queue was so long.. The staff member at the till had the poorest quality of English. I had to repeat my simple "Danish Toffee Chocolate" three times before she understood what I was saying! My friend has Coeliac's disease, and we ordered her usual drink which is Gluten Free (apparently).

After waiting 10 or so minutes, my drink comes out. Warm- of course. You can never seem to get a "hot" drink from Max Brenner's no matter which one you go to! Then a few minutes later, the next drink came out. Then another 5 later, our chocolate pots came out. My Coeliac friend's drink still hadn't come out 15 minutes later! So we asked the wait staff for her drink as it seemed as if they had forgotten.. Obviously by this time, I had long finished my drink... We came to Max Brenner's to drink our drinks together along with the Chocolates whilst having a chat andhaving a good time, we didn't come to stress whether they'd forgotten what we'd ordered! The Brazilian waiter didn't really understand but got the point that we were missing a drink off our bill. He then went and retrieved a drink for us. My friend had a mouthful but literally had to SPIT it out! :( She has Coeliac's and they gave her a WAFFLE hot chocolate with waffle pieces inside! If she had swallowed that, she would've been sick for days, and would had damaged her intestines... :(

My friend was by that point furious, as we had all finished our drinks and chocolate, and all she got was to suffer a mouthful of Gluten!! She went to the coffee making station and told her what had happened, the staff says "oh... ok" with an annoyed look that she had to remake another drink. And of course, no apologies.

We were just disappointed with the absence of any decent staff!! The store was filled with uncleared tables, and there were many people struggling to find a place to eat. The staff still seemed to have time to happily talk amongst themselves, when the store was an absolute mess!! Where were the Managers.. Or people with any form of work ethics!!

We still have not yet returned to the store as this was about our 4th unfortunate experience here. But never of this calibre. I hope the Management has come to 'Manage' the store by now, and I hope they are able to successfully serve customers.

It's a shame though, as many of their drinks are delicious!! :( :(

Disappointing. If you are a chocolate lover or a sweet tooth, this is the place for you. if you are a quality chocolate food critic, go some place else.
Maxi
Must try the pizza!!! Great food and nice place.

You have to try it.... I had never heard of this place until my friend told me about it and invited me to go. Oh My Gosh... it is basically a 'chocolate' restaurant with incredible yummy things and drinks to die for.

You will find chocolate cakes, waffles, chocolate 'pizzas', fondue sets, cookies, crepes and a huge array of hot and cold drinks.

I have tried the hot chocolate infused with coconut syrup and it was incredible, as well as a iced caramel-choc frappe which was pretty good.

The belgian waffles with fresh strawberries, banana and vanilla ice-cream drizzled with melted chocolate are my favourite thing here. I have also tried the warm chocolate fondant cake which was really yummy and the crepes are also good. Myself and 2 friends on a seperate occassion shared a fondue set - milk chocolate and dark chocolate accompanied by strawberries, banana, marshmallows and squares of cake for dipping. It was really yummy, a bit messy and a lot of fun.

I just love this place, you order at the counter and your items are brought to you. Staff quite regularly bring around samples of chocolates too while you're waiting to order.

Soooo yummy and unlike anywhere else i've ever been. I can't wait to go back to try the chocolate pizza!!
