Review Bistro Chez Nous - Surrey Hills

It can be better ... I'm all for quaint, stand-alone, rustic, suburbia gems ...always happy to travel and support them ... and I know times are tough, there were just 3 couples for the evening. $79.00/person 2-course and shared dessert petit-four, the hightlight was the beef Beef bourguignon, it was wholesome, rustic, delicious sumptuous, and well presented ... fish of the day was okay, bland for my liking and tiny ... average entree, disappointed with desserts ... it should be better.

Super delicious three-course French dinner. šŸ™‚šŸ‡²šŸ‡«šŸ‘ŒVery friendly and helpful staff. Fast service. šŸ™‚ We chose different dishes for entrees and mains: soupe a l'oignion, terrine du jour, poisson meuniere, canard a l'orange. Sauces were amazingly tasty and delicious!šŸ˜‹ Yummy desserts! šŸ˜‹

Incredible food. Cannot believe this place has been here and we never went in until now. The duck was soft, delicate and perfectly pink with a bold orange sauce and it was perfect with a Pinot Noir. The terrine was delicious with a punchy flavoured jelly complimented with warmed sour dough and cornichons then all topped off with an amazing selection of deserts in bite size pieces. Totally satisfied.

This is a very unpretentious little French restaurant serving authentic food at a fair price. We enjoyed a very lovely evening here for my wife's birthday. The set menu dinner can be enjoyed on its own or paired with wine. Cool ambience and lovely host made us feel very welcomed. Thank you!

Quite monthly dinner with the lads on a chilly Thursday evening. Every table was full in this tiny suburban restaurant. The atmosphere was good and surprisingly not too loud. The food was simple but good. We all had the $79 fixed price for 3 courses.

We had a fabulous group dinner here on a Saturday night. The food was delicious - I had the scallops and the most perfectly cooked medium rare steak. The dessert platter was to die for with a perfectly crackle topped brĆ»lĆ©eā€¦yum! Weā€™ll definitely be back.

Booked late and such a relaxed enjoyable meal. First time there and will definitely be back. 3 course meal was delicious. French onion soup/pate starter, then the steak/orange duck was a standout! Desert perfect finish.

My first time at Bistro Chez Nous was a wonderful experience. The choices for the three course meal were sensational the staff were attentive. The decor very nice. The only downside was it was very noisy.

You canā€™t go wrong with the small yet refined seasonal menu. All the wine is imported so you get a different taste from the stuff we have around in Melbourne

Bistro Chez Nous has recently acquired new owners. One who is passionate about coffee, the other passionate about cooking. Together they hope to create a wonderful dining experience for customers.

Currently they have a set menu at $65 per person. Unlike other French venues, each course is not shared and you are provided with your own dish. For $65 this is definitely good value for money.

My friend and I chose Bistro Chez Nous to celebrate our two year friendship anniversary. We were really happy we chose this venue since it was the perfect setting to celebrate such a milestone.

For the entree we both ordered the oysters. The oysters were from the Mornington Peninsula (which made me smile since I was from Mornington). We were surprised with how fresh the oysters were. The apple cider mignonette also went well with the oysters.

For the mains, my friend chose the duck and I chose the steak. For my dish the fries and cafe du Paris butter were both delicious. My steak was a generous serving and tasted okay - there were a few fatty bits however and wasnā€™t the best steak Iā€™ve eaten.

Highlight for me was definitely the dessert platter which reminded me of high tea. It was so cute! The selection of cheeses were delicious as well. Loved the blue cheese!

We both felt so full after eating at Bistro Chez Nous. We even had some left over chocolates for the next day šŸ˜‚

I can highly recommend Bistro Chez Nous and I think great things are coming to this venue. Iā€™m excited about their high tea in 2019! I will definitely go back for high tea. Perfect setting for it.

Wow what an experience . Two hours not to be offered drinks, seafood meal was very sparse of seafood, steak was very salty served with, potatoes, potatoes and bread, few over cooked beans and carrots thatā€™s it! Staff in sight of diners tasting food, licking fingers, wiping nose with open palm and straight back to plating up! Argued when we complained!
ā€œdĆ©cevantā€

Cute little French restaurant in the middle of Surrey Hills. The food is authentic and the price is extremely good for what you get. I've been a few times now and it's consistently tasty. Definitely recommend it!

Delicious food and wonderful service.
We came past late on a Saturday night and the waiter was very accomodating. We had the steak and a seafood soup, both were top notch and great value. Cute, intimate little place. Highly recommended!

The restaurant is small but the decor and background music provide a wonderful ambiance. We found the meal to be very good and particularly excellent value for money. What spoiled our evening was an awkward interaction between the waiter and patrons at the table next to us when they had accidentally booked for 3 instead of 4 and the waiter made such a fuss about the error. The fuss was unnecessary given there were about 3 tables that sat empty the entire evening but his passive aggressive manner saw the patrons leave to dine elsewhere and the waiter make an unprofessional comment to us on their departure. An unfortunate incident that put a dampener on our evening and made our interactions with the waiter thereafter uncomfortable. I doubt I would return based on that experience.

Delicious food, superb ambience and wonderful service. A gorgeous little bistro. Three courses for $50 and BYO, a very reasonably priced night out.

Entree at 7.30.main at 9pm. Maybe they allowed too many bookings. I was really looking forward to dinner, but sadly never again. Not good enough.

A balanced range of interesting dishes in a set price menu, with very friendly efficient service, made for a lovely evening. We loved Bistro chez Nous,Ā and have already planned to return, and as some else has said, we cannot understand the low score.

This place was very busy on a recent Friday night. Tables are small and not much space between them.
The room though, has a lovely ambience and the service is excellent.
The 3 course meal is very reasonable value, in terms of quantity. The food though, needs better quality ingredients - the cheese fondue was bland and the food options which are provided to dip into it, were also bland.
Mains had more flavours, but the sauce accompanying the chicken lacked depth. The roesti was well made!
Desserts are a shared affair of sweet dipping sauces combined with items which can be dipped into them. Not much diversity in taste, though.
Being BYO along with a good amount of food
for $50 pp and perfect service makes it a place worth returning to.

Visited for dinner and had an excellent 5 course dinner.Ā Ā Ā Loved the dessert share plate. The restaurant offers BYO.Ā Ā Cute, quaint place for a quiet dinner. Very reasonably priced.

Enjoyed a delicious lunch with friends here today. Ā A lovely Francophile space, with lots of prints, art and decor befitting a French-lover's space. Ā There were plenty of 'merci's' to be heard, and a reasonable selection of lunch options - all of them sounded lovely - in fact the blackboard choices for dinner were tempting too. Ā I was considering the Fish of the day (whiting), but ended up going with the 'Poulet a la Moutarde, (free range) chicken maryland braised until gorgeously tender, and moist in a beautiful creamy mustard and Chandon Brut sauce. Ā It's served atop extremely good chips, and with a little side-salad with a delicious and creamy dressing. Ā I was pleased with my decision! Ā Friends also enjoyed the calamari (Calamares avec pommes frites et salade), the calamari was very tender, though perhaps another piece or two of calamari might have been appreciated. Ā The buckwheat pancake with smoked salmon was another choice, deemed delicious and a lighter option than our other two mains. Ā A lovely meal washed down with delicious Champagne and appealing surroundings.

Petit fours were lovely, we enjoyed an assortment. Ā Tea is T2, coffees were a good standard, service was very amicable.

Depending on the weather, the idea of going outside the bistro to get to the loo can seem part of the charm, or a little unpleasant, but the food is worth it in all but the most inclement weather I think.

Four courses for $50. Appetiser was ok. Lyonnaise salad was a bit awkward to eat in its small bowl, tasted just ok. Main was seafood dumplings - three dry quenelles of fish meat in a good sauce. Duck fat potatoes were tasty. Dessert was the highlight. Amazing array of seven mini desserts. A

Agree with previous reviews, it's a lovely decorated restaurant with very good food, deserve to be rated higher. Came for luncheon on a weekday, my toddler who is a very fussy eater ate all my buckwheat crepe and then moved on to his croque monsieur. As for service, the poor waiter looked apprehensive faced with 2 active toddlers, but would probably be great to everyone else.

Fourth visit on Saturday night and we will be sure to visit again. Great atmosphere, service and food. Beautiful Chicken ProvenƧal was the highlight. And rounded off with Robyn's delicious degustation plate of desserts. Fantastic value too.

5 of us had a fantastic birthday dinner here. Excellent value and the fish was to die for!! Great service and we were blown away by the dessert which was a tiered stand with a selection of mini sweets, something for everyone. I was also pleasantly surprised and delighted by the cheese course, which we weren't expecting.

Lovely French bistro with vintage posters and maps of Paris , instrumental music, white rattan chairs and cozy cushion seats by the window. Had the smoked salmon baguette and it was beautiful! Coupled with a cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows, a very lovely brunch experience indeed!
