I love the location and the decor, definitely a point of difference to the other bars out there. The taco sushi was different and definitely a combination of the two cultures. I love the tunes, upbeat and making me want to dance in every song.

Been here a couple times and it’s always quite full even on weekdays, but if you try the karaage (fried chicken) you’d probably understand why. They have a different promo going on every day, and the $1 dumplings on Tues/Weds (can’t remember exactly) were pretty great. Nice ambience with a karaoke room hidden inside, very Japanese backstreet feel.

Go on a week day to experience Goros at its best. No crowds and a very relaxed atmosphere. We ordered the chicken gyozas, prawn gyozas, chips with curry gravy, wagyu beef skewers, and pork belly skewers. All the food was exceptional. We also ordered the green tea sake which tasted amazing.

Also another bonus was the free karaoke!

Came here for the cool vibes on a Friday night at 730 and it was completely packed. Had to wait for 5 minutes for a table/booth to clear but not an issue.

The chicken karaage was nice as were the gyoza. My friend really enjoyed his fried chicken burger and I had a taste of the fries which were also yum.

Great food, from their crispy Karaage fried chicken to their burgers, top notch on the taste level.

Smooth Japanese beer (slightly on the pricey side) is definitely almost worth the buck. Clean taps and a large variety of Sake for those that want.

Great ambience.

Melbournian here 🙋🏻‍♀️
Can I just say Goros really did a great job with the atmosphere, food and entertainment! It was such a great experience, the beef burger is a must try! The replica of a krabby patty! Burger was so juicy, fresh and tasty! Along with the curry dipping sauce for the chips was outstanding!
Tried both of the gyoza, was pretty poor in our opinion, it’s missing something.
Karrage chicken was delicious!
Drinks were awesome.
Love that they have a free karaoke room.
Service really needs improving, the fact that you are required to order at the bar, not enough staff to take orders. I think it’s better and faster if there was a waiter on the floor taking orders and the bartenders at the bar taking orders for drinks.. just cause it took awhile to get our order and for the food to come out.
Love the Garfield!!
Definitely returning if I’m ever back in Sydney!
Take your lover, friends and family here for a great time!

Great food, drinks and atmosphere. Cocktail/spirit drinks were affordable and enjoyable, the bubble tea cocktails are amazing! Food was on the spicier side, but it was still delicious.

Looking for a place to hangout & kick off a Sat night that also offer nice food. A friend recommended this place. Have only previously walked passed this during day time, and it always seemed pretty quiet. Got there about 7pm, still pretty quiet & we got a table easily. First impression was that I was transported back to uni days, in a good way ☺️. Funky bar, air hockey, karaoke, cocktails, music. Great chillax vibe, casual, people are there to chill & have fun. The food were also a rank above the average bar food. The Izakaya style yakitori were great, along with the crispy chicken burger & zucchini fries, but absolutely love the shoestring fried with the curry ketchup! Will definitely come back again on another night out!

Sometimes I just feel like I’m on a reconnaisance mission. I’ll have just a drink or a coffee to see if the place tempts me back for a meal. Or I’ll have a meal to see if it tempts me back for more meals, possibly at different times of the day. In this way, Goros succeeded. I’ve been curious about such a non-descript shopfront that nevertheless gets a line up of folks on the weekend. Entering on a Monday after work, it’s surprisingly busy, and it’s a bizarre mash-up. There’s a karaoke area off on one side. Pinball machines. A bar. Booths as if in a Japanese restaurant… or a food court. There’s a neon fish skeleton on one wall next to the neon Pokies sign. The toilets are marked Geishas and Ninjas.

Goros is like an 'underground hippie bar' that you find on the streets of Japan. The interiors and decor are very cool and suits the Japanese theme very well. It's also got like a mini arcade inside and the whole vibe is rather quirky.

In terms of food, the karaage chicken, edamame, gyoza and pork yakisoba were all super delicious, so definitely give those a try!

For drinks, we tried:

1. Goros Shochu Infusion 'Peach & Yuzu' - quite a nice taste when served with lemonade, but can barely taste the alcohol
2. Goros Shochu Infusion 'Strawberry & Blueberry' - really nice as well, sweeter than the peach & yuzu one
3. Yoshinogawa 'Gensen' Umeshu - not that nice, taste a little like chinese medicine
4. Kunizakari 'Tanrei' Yuzushu - tastes very refreshing, one of the best!
5. Hombo 'Green Tea' - tastes exactly like a mix of green tea and alcohol
6. Hombo 'Brown Sugar' - expect a sweeter taste to this one than the ones above
7. Sake Sonic - do not order unless you love the taste of bitter alcohol
8. Moshi Moshi #2 - LOVE this one in particular because of the popping pearls and it's got more of a sweeter/fruitier taste to it

Feel free to follow me on instagram @pignic_ for more foodie adventures.

A little bit of modern Japan in the Surry Hills. This is such a fun and funky place - great for group events.
The food (especially the chicken and burgers) is seriously good and the service was very quick. The price is a bit steep but comparable to other gourmet burgers.
The menu isn't huge but there is enough variety for most people. Worth a visit of you like Japanese inspired pub food.

A super fun place for a drink and fusion-style Japanese with friends. The food was alright - tasty but not fabulous. The karaoke is definitely a highlight! Be sure to put your name down as these rooms fill up quickly!

The booth-style seating works really well if you're with a group of 6 or so, but any more and its hard to find a seat.

A nice little place which was busy on a Friday night. Had to wait a bit to get in but the atmosphere is chilled and funky. The food is average but alright. Not the best I've tasted. The crispy chicken burger was our pick together with edamame, which makes for good bar food with Sapporo beer. There's Karaoke and other activities as well.

Such a fun bar. Good first impression when I walked in and saw the giant Garfield, air hockey table and point blanc. The food was excellent. Loved the fried chicken. Super crunchy and so juicy. The shoestring fries are your standard fries but the sauce they served it with (it was Japanese curry like) made it different. Yakitori (beef rib, pork belly and chicken) was devine. Beef and pork ones just melted in my mouth and they were served with some wasabi like condiment (but much milder) which helped cut through the fat and sweetness. Sushi set was fine, nothing bad to say about it. Ordered a mushroom salad too which had a really nice dressing. Really liked the pepitas in it. Ate all this while in one of the karaoke rooms. Such a great chilled out place for drinks, food and entertainment.

A lot of fun, unpretentious, well done Japanese Izakaya Street food in a bar/restaurant/games/karaoke house in Surry Hills. Goro's is a cool little place in Surry Hills that has a lot of personality and brings something new to Sydney with surprisingly good food. There are a mix of booths, long tables and sectioned off dining areas that flows into an open bar with high tables, a small dance floor (even a DJ on the night I went) as well as an air hockey table, pool table, arcade games and a few karaoke rooms. You order at the bar and we chose a mix of dishes to share. A short menu with all your classic Japanese street food with a few small modernised twists. The grilled skewers were good the pork belly was probably my favourite, smokey and fatty. Karaage chicken was crispy and juicy, chips were a bit lame fat chunky chips would have soaked up the curry sauce better which was a nice twist. The standout was the pork schnitzel sandwhiches, perfectly cooked, crispy and worked well with the soft bread, coleslaw and Jap Mayo. Takoyaki was also done well in a typical style. Gyoza were crispy but could have been juicer and filled more. Sushi of the day was not good. The chicken and avo were too mashed up and not seasoned enough. Plain rice would be good to have on the menu. Presentation overall looked good, service was excellent and the bar staff are friendly and having a good time. Dance floor was happening, drinks were flowing and the free Karaoke had people singing their hearts out. Just make sure to book for Karaoke as it is popular and you get 2 hours. Love this place it's versatile, refreshing and doesn't seem too try-hard or disrespectful to Japanese culture.

A super cool bar, with KARAOKE. The food was delish. We grabbed the burger special, loved the spicy seasoning on the fries, the Bento box was good, I am not a fan of the octopus balls and they could not be subbed out. The mango beer is the perfect thirst quencher on a hot day.

Stuck for dinner ideas we were wandering this arm of Surry Hills and were drawn in as we went to walk past. Goros is an inviting Jap-style bar, complete with bamboo bordered booths, a giant garfield, and Asahi on tap. There's karaoke alongside a good mix of seating arrangements, from an open, informal dining area, cosy booths, long shared bar tables and two-seater high tables dotted around the place. Its highly themed, and highly enjoyable, with fit-out tastefully constructed.

There's quite alot on offer, so we opt for one of the $30 Set Menus and a few extras in to share, leaving more than enough for two people. Across nine of Goros' options there was only one which fell flat - pork gyoza. I found this too oily and lacking crisp on the pan-fried edges. Upside, the spicy edamame is well-infused with wasabi throughout. The Agedashi tofu was one of the best I have tasted with a beautiful light dashi, and tofu topped with mixed mushrooms.  Miso-glazed salmon yakitori was moist and tender, with a generous buttery miso. Beef short rib & shiitake yakitori both enjoyed the same. Tender, meaty flavours in the beef, and served with this interesting bitter-like relish.

I loved the sesame mayo in the Karaage and found the chicken juicy and flavourful, whilst still maintaining crunch. The snow pea and avocado salad was an interesting mix but nonetheless enjoyed. The radish amongst the dressing softens the tang leaving some refreshing flavours on the plate. Sushi set comes with real wasabi and the tuna maki was creamy and delicious.

Staff are really friendly and obliging. They have only a few options with wines (4x) however why would anyone looking past sake and beer? Asahi Black is well recommended and I loved the fact these guys do a Matso's Mango beer from Broome.

Goros is a great Japanese Isakaya style joint. Feels like Japan when you go in, little booths, high benches and stools and interior Decorated with Japanese prints, whisky and sake signs. There's arcade games, air hockey, a pool table and a DJ. When I've been late at night, there's a dance floor happening too. The best part is the free karaoke - just make sure you book. I've done this on a nuns do of occasions and it has a great range of song choices, you can take your food and drinks in too. For the food, you can get yakitori, gyoza or Japanese inspired burgers. Not a huge range of food but it's pretty good nonetheless. I have had the gyozas many times and they're very delicious. It was a bit slow to come out. Lots of whiskeys (but quite expensive), sake and whiskey based cocktails. Cool place to eat, drink and hang out.

Goros would be a good place for a few drinks with friends. My boyfriend and I went there for the Tuesday night $15 kaarage chicken. It was pretty quiet for a Tuesday night, and was definitely more of a pub/bar vibe than we expected. Regardless, the chicken was really delicious. The batter was seasoned perfectly and the outside was deliciously crispy with the moist soft inside - the antithesis for which I always seek out in fried chicken! I ordered the agodashi tofu which was cheap (only $12) and a good serving for the price but I was still pretty hungry. It was okay, certainly not the best agodashi tofu I've ever had, being a little bit flavourless. I would love to try some of their chip options, like tougarashi fries that are unfortunately only available after 10pm Thursday to Saturday. I also ordered a shochu infusion drink which was fun, as I had never tried a shochu drink. Overall, Goros wasn't bad, with the fried chicken definitely the highlight. I would go back with friends for a few drinks and the chicken, but wouldn't go back just for dinner.

Came here for farewell drinks not long ago. Unexpectedly cool interiors and certainly will be full during weekends, Goro's is another funky place to visit, browse or simply having a good catch up with friends. Clean and Decent. Their Gyoza and Fried Chicken were tasty and good companions for beers/sake/plum wine. Haven't tried their burgers and their Wednesday Specials yet, but keen to go back :)

Walk through the doors. Major "otaku" vibe. Air hockey, Point Blank and Street Fighter arcade machines sit nearby the Karaoke room. A massive Garfield sits on the couch near the pool table. Turn tables pump hip beats. Posters of retro anime and samurai films plaster the walls. There's Japanese geek paraphernalia everywhere. Love it.

Tuesday evening. Chillaxed vibe. Walk over to the bar, super wide. Not too busy. We order Sapporo's and Asahi's. They're poured fresh from the tap. The best way to drink these beers. Fresh. Sip. Aaaaahhhhh. So fresh. Look at the menu. Everything's deep fried, fried, grilled, barbecued, charred. You're in an izakaya. F*ck your salad.

We sit down in our monster sized izakaya booth. Love the roominess, the size is a Japanese dream. Nothing like this in Tokyo.

Food arrives.

First, Goro's fried chicken with Wasabi mayo ($17.00). The plate is massive. Pick up a piece of karaage. Piping hot. Crunch, crunch, crunch. Awesome flavour, bites crunchily. Is that a word? Who cares. The chicken's been marinated properly. Good. That's all I care about. And the crunch. Did I say it's crunchy? Yep.

Second. Pork gyozas ($14.00). Steamed. Should balance out the deep fried goodness of the chicken. Pick it up and pop it in the mouth. Nice and tender skins. Flavoursome pork filling. Sprinkled with shichimi. Nice little spicy kick but not over-the-top. I like it.

Thirdly. Piece de resistance. Teriyaki wagyu beef cheeseburger with crispy bacon and a plate load of fries ($18.00). Too much food. Cut it in half. Sharing is caring. Bite into it. Fantastic smoky char on the wagyu meat patty. Teriyaki sauce, tomato sauce, Japanese mayo all mixing together in my mouth. Cheese, Bacon. It's a heart attack waiting to happen. Life's short. Enjoy. Eat.

Goros. It's a good time. Only two people the other night. Next time, bringing a small army. Next time, drinking buckets of sake and downing Japanese highball whiskies.

NB - On a Wednesday night after 5pm, arcade games, air hockey, pool and karaoke are all free. Games UNLIMITED. Thursday nights, there's a double Teriyaki wagyu beef cheeseburger. It's called a GODZILLA burger. How cool is that?

I love the level of detail there is at Goros with its Japanese decor - from it's cute kawaii figurines, to the paper lanterns, manga wallpaper, karaoke rooms, neon arcade area.. Even if you go here for a visit and not for food, you'd still be in for a treat.

I went here with a group of 4 so we sat at one of the booths in the middle of the room. The colours of this place really transports you to another world & the down-to-earth-ness of the staff make you right at home. We also went here on a Wednesday evening which was the $15 curry special with kirin beer.. My god the serving of this was huge for $15!! And it tasted pretty good as well, I recommend their curry!

After a few drinks and food, we tried out their karaoke room (free!) which was a load of fun, especially with their wig selection that you can wear while jamming out.

Just a note that the food here is good, as long as you know what to order.. The Beef Short Rib Show Down sounded promising however did come out quite small and also not satisfying enough for $12..
The perfect atmosphere to hang out with friends, and make sure to take the time to wander around the place, I'll be back again for sure!

A woman walks into a bar, and two minutes later, she’s got her favourite Japanese beer in a can – Yona Yona Pale Ale ($11) - in hand, watching B-grade film clips, while casually eyeing off a diverse crowd venturing behind back-lit rice paper screens. She makes quick work of a classy, ceramic flask of Houraisen ‘Bi’ Junmai Daiginjo Sake ($36/180ml) whilst wondering idly if ‘private room karaoke’ is a euphemism

Goro’s

A nice addition to this end of town. It’s kind of in an odd spot for a bar, but we need a lot more bars in odd spots, in the fairly quiet areas of town if we have any hope of catching up to Melbourne’s epicly saturated bar culture. Within a stone’s throw of Central Station, it’s a super convenient location.

Less than a 5 min walk from the likes of The Wild Rover and Tio’s. It’s impossible to miss with the cool neon signage.

Goro’s reminds me of your average cheap and cheerful Tokyo Izakaya, with a few small differences.

It’s larger than any Tokyo Izakaya, but it doesn’t feel too big for it’s own good.

You keep your shoes on.

And there is no all you can drink/eat options which is a shame, but this is Australia.

This is a place I’ll keep coming back to,

I haven’t tried the Karaoke yet, but that’s definitely on the cards...and I’ve since been told a little secret about the Karaoke I might just keep to myself

They’ve got a cool selection of drinks, some Japanese Whisky’s like Nikka and Suntory, a decent selection of Japanese Draft, Orion, Sapporo, Asahi, Kirin. Would love to see some Hokkaido Ale or the ever elusive Yebisu in the future. Became a fan of the “Unusual Negroni” which adds some Umeshu into the mix...Umeshu is a sweet (although can be sour) Japanese sake fruit mix.

The booth seating is a winner, reminds me of many a nights in Tokyo getting smashed with friends out in Shibuya, playing drinking games, crowding everyone into a tiny booth and then more, smashing our way through epic Nomihoadi sessions

The foods not bad, love the sweet potato fries, I hit the wasabi stick on the roulette wheel. which took a little bit to get over. But it wasn’t crazy hot like my first wasabi experience; sticking a spoon full of the stuff in my mouth.

The foods very simple, nothing crazy over the top, it’s what you get in pretty much most Izakayas in Tokyo. Would love to see some Okonomiyaki at some stage in the future. its just easy quick finger food, tasty as all hell...the slider was pretty impressive. totally forgot to take a photo of it as I demolished it in seconds.

I’m really impressed with what they’ve done at Goro’s. It’d be so easy to try and go over the top in trying to make a Japanese themed joint. This really captures the simplicity of a Tokyo Izakaya so well. They’re not the most amazing bars, they’re just fun, friendly, cheap and cheerful places to catch up with friends. Except this is the 1st one I’ve been to that has a Karaoke room...probably because in Tokyo the Izakayas would be within mic swinging distance of a karaoke; there is no real need to add one.

The only real complaint I have with Goro’s is that they don’t have a couple of Street Fighter II Hyper/Super/Champion Ed. to relive the good old days.

Greeted by bouncers and entering a sea of hipsters, I was relieved to have pre-booked a booth. The food needed to be awkwardly ordered at the beer-drenched bar by yelling over people but when it came out, it was delicious. Great flavours in everything we ordered and we enjoyed the yakitori roulette with one jam-packed with wasabi. The goros fried chicken was a hit and the wasabi sauce was addictive. It was far too loud to have a conversation but the vibe was fun (air hockey and the like) and I enjoyed getting away from the suits but staying in the CBD.

Before yesterday, we feel ashamed to say that we didn't even know this place existed. However, it will now be one of our local visits after our experience the other night. Goros is a twist between your traditional bar and a Japanese restaurant of some sorts. It blends both the traditional Japanese culture with the western influence. They were even showing Sumo Wrestlers playing basketball on TV! Hah! We were invited by Renae Smith from The Atticism   to dine as their guest.  We are already thinking of going back just for the fried crab sandwich, wakame, tobiko! Another reason for going back would be as a result of the impeccable service we received. The staff were very friendly, great to offer recommendations and we never had an awkward moment. They definitely made the experience much more enjoyable!  Big shout out to Lloyd for your hospitality and recommendations on the Sake, Chicken and Crab Sandwich, and to Ben  for your excellent service at our table.  Made us feel special! Goros opening hours are surprising.  You're telling me I can wake up in the middle of the night when I'm dreaming about the crab sandwich and wake up at Goros?!  Monday to Wednesday - 11:30am - 12am  Thursday - 11:30am - 1am Friday - 11:30am - 3am  Saturday 4pm - 3am. The moment we stepped foot inside Goros, we felt like we were already in Japan. The next couple of pictures show the difference between Goros and your normal stand-alone pub. Let us know if you can't notice the Japanese/western fusion and we can show you. Perhaps go have a look for yourself, you will not regret it. Their table numbers are either the cutest or the freakiest experience I have had all week. I m still trying to decide whether or not my nightmares the last couple of nights were as a result of this table number that was watching us throughout our whole meal.  It definitely is something different...  Cute or Freaky? Christie thinks it's cute.  Matt on the other hand thinks that it is out to get him.  Experiences come i

Karaage chicken is one of my favourite traditional Japanese dishes, nothing beats a piece of exceptionally crispy fried chicken especially when it’s done well as it is here. The wasabi mayo was quite popular with the others but I’ve never been a huge fan of wasabi so I only tried a small amount.

Great place for group dinner/drinks. We decided to hold a staff dinner at Goro's soon after they opened. The booking process was so smooth and helpful as was the service on the night.
We had great cocktails and the banquet to follow. Everyone loved the food. We had a few vegetarians who were well catered for.
The buns were one of my favourites. The ribs were a hit too!
Great night. Will do it again.

The bar is really busy, but fun. They have nice food, karaoke, arcade games and nice drinks. We got appletini and pirate beer (sour beer) which was nice. We ordered salmon, squid and pork belly skewers, they were all tasty. However, price was quite expensive. We had 3 dishes but not really full yet. Quite loud music so needed to talk loudly.

After finishing up at The Beresford, we then headed over to Goros. This is one of my personal favourite places to go for a night out. The security are all really nice there and the crowd is great. They play really great music, the genres are always so different and they don’t play the usual club songs you tend to here all the time at sydney bars and clubs. The layout and decor / overall vibe of the venue is awesome and I love the anime walls. There’s so many ways to be entertained with karaoke rooms, arcade games, food, drinks, outdoor area and VIP lounge area. Every time I’ve been, I’ve had the best night. Definitely recommend coming here for your next night out.
