Review Left Bower - Sutherland

I'm passionate about good coffee and so are the team here. Couldn't fault the espresso, batch brew and long black. This will become a regular place for me. Update 18/2/22 still coming here despite now living 2 suburbs away and still amazing coffee

The coffee is outstanding here and never disappoints, however had to stop coming here as the staff made me feel uncomfortable and made it seem like every visit was amusing when i was only going in, ordering and leaving.. like most customers. It's a typical cliquey 'Shire' cafe. At least the good coffee can offer some consolation.

Still great coffee. Haven't been since Matt days. One query. One barista maskless..not good these days and considering direct contact with public and breathing on and touching coffee and cup. If you have exemption maybe wise to advertise the fact?

They are premium priced but it’s a great product and service, quick as for a blend or hot choc but their large is more like medium in my opinion!!! For $5 u should get a nip of Bounty!!!!

Great coffee every day. I have barely missed a day since it opened. Friendly service and great people.

We were shopping in Sutherland for business and the delicious aroma of coffee emanating from this gorgeous cafe called to us. We enjoyed our coffee break here. Warm, friendly and efficient customer service. Next time we will stop for a bite to eat.

Ordered some gorgeous Acme cups from White Horse and I am SO impressed with the customer service and delivery. Everything was packaged incredibly well and very safe. When I ordered the wrong saucers they corrected this for me free of charge, and threw in some of their delicious coffee. I will definitely be purchasing some more cups from their online store, as well as their amazing coffee. How online shopping should be!

You can always count on the Whitehorse baristas to serve you amazing strong coffee. Just the way I love my Flat White. Friendly staff and consistent quality. They have a few baristas and it surprises me how they maintain consistent quality no matter who is making your coffee. Thank you Whitehorse, you make my day, every day :) Top notch!!

I keep going back because the food is so good. Tony and Mary are great hosts and the staff is so friendly. New winter menu is on - check out the sweet potato waffles and apple&fennel pork sausage.

Amazing Food & Coffee. Atmosphere on point A little hidden gem, Love it!

I'm a 'repeat offender' at Left Bower, a quirky, vintage style coffee shop. The reason is simple: amazingly tasty, honest food made from locally sourced organic produce, yummy home-made cakes, great tasting hot bevies (love their coffee!) and smoothies & juices made to order, all served up by cordial & welcoming staff. What a gem in the Sutherland Shire!

Absolutely amazing coffee maybe even the best I have ever tried. The boys who run the place are really lovely too. I always make a point of dropping in when I am close by even though I no longer live in the area.

Only used this venue for a couple if coffees. Coffees were great and the food looked great. I loved the concept of an old caravan both in and outside. Nice vibe and other customers were happy.

This is my go to place when I visit my mum in Sutherland .. Love the music, the wholesome food and the general quirky vibe .. Thank you x

Nice food and friendly staff. The eggs etc are scrumptious but the only toast option is sourdough which is tough on the teeth and gums. Another bread choice would be nice. Love the 60s caravan decor etc. but a very small cafe and seated in the middle you are often bumped or asked to move so others can get in and out which is annoying after about the 10th time. Outside tables aren't really an option in winter.

Looking for excellent hearty food with a twist along with a vintage atmosphere and great service then this place in Sutherland is the shires best kept secret. Thanks for our Mothers Day breakie we will be back to try lunch and those yummy cakes and oh the coffee is spot on!

Oh my goodness the French toast is to die for! The best I have ever tasted. Great friendly staff , love the fact that nothing matches, the plates remind me of what my mum used back in the day! 10/10
Corinne Nicole
Great coffee, friendly accommodating staff and the best mushrooms on toast going around.
Jonathan Elcombe
Best place in the Shire for a breaky, such well constructed dishes, the combination of tastes are fantastic

We were taken here by friends from Sydney, a nice hole in the wall cafe. Anita's porridge is the best porridge I've ever eaten! So creamy and so flavoursome. Perfect balance between sweet and savory. All my friends had a taste of it as well and all agree how delicious it is. Thank you for the great food and friendly service. We'll be back for more one day!

Popped in this morning for breakfast with a girlfriend and loved it! Beautiful fresh food, generous portion size and beautiful coffee. The staff were all lovely also. Looking forward to coming back

The most surprising find in Sutherland. Great service in an old style atmosphere that will transport you into the 1980s. The scrambled eggs are to die for, so you know it’s loaded with butter and cream - but it’s okay. Will be back!

Left Bower in Sutherland, a quirky café offering great coffee, home baked cakes, breakfast and lunch. Besides great coffee you will find freshly squeezed juices and good old fashioned creamy milkshakes. On approach, your mind automatically triggers that you are looking at something familiar. It’s not just the outside of a café. It’s subtle at first, you notice the smooth aluminium siding. Then the painted decorative retro orange design.

Cosy little cafe with a mismatch collection of plates, cutlery and more. Friendly service and they were efficient on the food.

Not an extensive menu, but a variety of choices to have something suitable. The flavours in the BLAT were excellent. They absolutely nailed it. Would have had another!

The coffee is great too, just really small serves.

The only let down for me is that it's an open kitchen within the cafe. So it's noisy. Mixed with the chatting of the patrons, it can be difficult to hear. And the place gets busy!

I would go for the food and coffee again, though. Yes!

Great food and attentive service, if only a tad expensive for cafe-styled meals. I had the salmon with bread & salad, the first item on the menu.

Delicious start to the morning and friendly staff! We were driving down to Wollongong from Sydney and randomly found this place on Google. Great taste and presentation.

Great food, great coffee, incredibly friendly service.
So consistent it begins to feel a lot like home.

Seasonal menus provide variety and great special options for when you feel like mixing it up. The classic menu options are also great.

Recommend for both takeaway coffee and a whole dine in experience !
I have never been so rudely, verbally attacked by a retailer. I walked in at about 12:30pm today and just asked if he had something I could take away. The old English "gentleman" (not!") bellowed at me: "We don't do take away love!!!" I was so shocked at his tone I simply said: "I can go next door then ..." thinking he'd realise how rude he'd been - calm down and just tell me politely if he couldn't help. But he exploded into a rage screaming that I'd better leave. I was crying by this time, as I was only getting something to take away over into Woronora Cemetery to see my Mum. I've had this ritual since she passed away four years ago. The nice young guys who started this coffee shop, were alway so sweet and kind. But when I told this new owner 'Ive come here for years and was going to visit my Mum.... he condescendingly screamed at me : "oh my heart break for you love!!!" I have never experienced anything like this before. A retailer being so hostile and abusive..,.. that's why I'm writing this. I don't usually, but this man has just made me so miserable. Next time I visit Mum I will find a different place to get our coffee ...
Picturesque Food
Nice little coffee shop near Sutherland station. Friendly and helpful staff. Today I ordered the bacon and eggs which was quite tasty with the side of avocado.

Amazing food, friendly and accomodating staff that are always happy to help out substitute menu items. Quirky and a true gem and favorite :)

Fantastic little cafe right next to Sutherland Station. I got the bacon and egg roll with tomato relish ($10) and soy chai latte ($5). The bacon and egg roll was well made with the bacon having a smoked taste, and presented with some leafy rocket leaves and a small amount of rocket puree. The chai blend is made onsite and came served in an antique rustic teapot with a cup and saucer - highly recommend!!! The food was delightful and the interior very funky, quirky being a mix of 60s (?) Relics with the chairs, tables, hipster favric coverings all fitting in with the theme. Friendly service too. I would definitely recommend a visit for a hip trip down memory lane!!

Stumbled in to Left Bower with friends for breakfast one morning in Sutherland. From the outside it doesn't look much, but inside it's full of quirky charm. Our dishes were priced reasonably, and tasted quite average. It is inclose proximity to the station, and is in a nice location, and likelihood is we probably won't return if in the area again.

Fabulous service, great food, friendly employees! Would recommend the Left Bower to people that like healthy but filling meals. They also do a great coffee. Amazing chocolate milkshakes and I always go for the Harry's Famous Scrambled Eggs for around $15. Large meal and worth dining in. I usually go here for breakfast, and is mildly busy. They change the menu according to season currently it is the Summer menu and it is amazing!! - TF

Came here a few months ago for breakfast and the coffee was quite memorable. Originally ordered a sandwich to share but I remember it was too good that we decided to order something else on the menu. I enjoyed the interior vintage ish setting as well. Very humble yet enjoyable cafe. Staff were friendly too.

Last weekend I caught up with my friend Natalie (check out her holistic nutrition website) to talk about life, placement, diet experiments and her latest exciting project: The Holistic Nutritionists podcast. I was meant to go to her neck of the woods (Cronulla), which I was excited about given the vast array of healthy cafes down there, but there were trackworks going on. Instead, I got off the train in Sutherland and we had brunch in a nearby cafe which is apparently popular among local cyclists.

Have eaten here a number of times for breaky, not too bad just wish the menu was simpler. Unfortunately not a lot of room to sit inside but the chai tea is amazing! Nice to pop in and have a bite to eat.

This is the first time I've travelled this far out. I was originally here to meet a friend just after lunch only to find that they were starting to close up for the day. Since I had a while to wait, I decided to have a quick coffee and cake.

All the variety of cakes and other sweets on display was just drool worthy. I decided on the orange & pistachio cake which was amazing!!

The staff was so friendly at the cafe. I would love to visit again for a proper meal next time. I keep hearing from my friend who lives in the area that Left Bower is great for lunch!

Great relaxed place to go for a coffee and breakfast or brunch. Limited menu but food is very good and from local sources. New management with a friendly hands on approach. Would certainly recommend.

Convenient location, awesome coffee but if your wanting a meal... There's not a whole lot on the menu. I had the zucchini waffles with a fried egg (not many lunch options, mostly breakfast) I like runny eggs, but this egg was pretty much raw

This place looks cute & the food offer sounds appealing but I'm yet to try any of it because they've closed before their advertised closing time two out of two of my last visits. Disappointing.

Absolutely amazing food, coffee and people. The staff is so friendly and you can actually talk to the chef who is so lovely. Highly recommend

Great coffee, home made treats, local produce and amazing decor. This family run cafe is a welcomed treat to Sutherland. Super cute decor make it feel like you're on a visit to your grandmas!

Best food, service and coffee! My favourite cafe in the Shire by far. Love their passion for real food. Kids love their pumpkin spiced waffles. Highly recommend Left Bower

Its decor, facade and ambiance can be unique. Except for the coffee equipment, I am thrown back to the 70s or early eighties. It does not over emphasise coffee, though it is the main product. You walk into a lifestyle. You can delve into intimate details of coffee and learn much as to where the origin of all this used in this place. It can be an unassuming place, but hey why are there headlights at the front of the shop? You can take your coffee through a ice cream van-like counter. You could be at a beach or camping ground, but no, you are in the Shire. I find the coffee slick, mellow and stimulating. I am offered a choice of whether I want my brew hard and strong, or smooth and easy. The coffee beans come from two places in Australia, one near Byron Bay and the other from Mount Warning. The barista can be the same person as the roaster. What's so good about home grown coffee beans? The breakky and lunch menus support Shire providers and suppliers. Left Bower is open on Saturd

Love the coffee but wish they had a larger takeaway. Also wished they used skim milk rather than lite.

Fresh, delicious food!. I eat breakfast or lunch at the Left Bower several times a week and am never disappointed. The food is always fresh, beautifully cooked and presented well. Best coffee in Sydney! The staff there are exceptional, friendly and efficient and always prepared to go the extra mile to make the experience enjoyable. Love the ambience. Highly recommended!

Fabulous. Varied menu and tasty food.

THE REAL DEAL. What a fantastic find! This place is the real deal! All the food and cakes are made with passion. The coffees are incredible and are made in a very unique looking press style machine. I had a fantastic breakfast with amazing eggs and fabulous sourdough breads. Thank you so much!

If you find better food Ill eat my hat. Had lunch today ordered the beef tacos to say I was impressed is an understatement. Best food you will find in a cafe in Sydney for sure.
Mary Widdicombe
Good coffee, substantial fruit toast , wholemeal, delicious, but the 2 coffees we ordered came out at different times. We ordered a second round and again had to wait for the second coffee. Fix this and you've got a decent breakfast experience.

Lovely cafe in supburban sutho.. but coffee making is not there strong point.

Sloppy. Quirky little cafe with so much potential. Coffee was lovely, but almost cold. Food was awful. They are trying so hard but just getting it so wrong. Obviously using top notch ingredients, but what is the point when everything tastes like grease?
Fred Chaplin
Beautiful food and a very trendy atmosphere. It's cheap and I'd definitely recommend this Cafe.

This place has good coffee but the food is surprisingly terrible. Ordered a simple bacon and eggs, bacon was undercooked and about 75% fat, eggs were overcooked. Left most of it on the plate.

I like the concept and the decor, but until they get the basics right I won't be going back again which is a shame as I enjoyed my first few visits here.

The first time I ate here on a quite Saturday morning, I was suitably impressed by the baked Nixon eggs and lovely coffee. The decor is stunning and quirky. The second time I wasn't so lucky.. I wanted to try the big breakfast as they talk about all the ingredients being local. I paid 30 dollars for a large coffee and the big breakfast. I've noticed both times many people sitting at tables confused about why there order hasn't been taken. It's only by luck that people realise this before 8 other people have ordered infront of them. Almost everything is help yourself but here are heaps of staff members floating around doing not much. While I appreciate the decor the huge indoor table is not conductive to business. No one wants to enjoy breakfast sitting next to people they don't know.

So after 15 minutes of waiting I got my coffee which had thrown them as I'd asked for it in a takeaway cup. My breakfast was then delivered to the wrong table because I had moved when a space became available.

I don't know.. This place has a lot of potential but they need to develop a system that works. Table numbers and a sign saying "please order at the counter" would be a huge help.

Until then, I won't be back which is sad because there coffee is great.
Lee
Waited 15min for an in house coffee. Disappointed to see takeaways walk in and out while I continue to wait. Coffee was ok but not worth the wait. Won't be going back.
