Such a cute restaurant! Love how the menu changes often, and all of the produce are seasonal. Food was delicious, v homely. Definitely a must try!
Only reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 is because I’m a cocktail girl, and they only had wines and beers on offer. Also could’ve done with some cushions on the outside seats.

Wonderful concept and execution. You get menu of the day, or nothing (some dietary exceptions). Unlike many highfalutin eateries, you get plenty to eat. Wine list Ok but doesn’t quite match the standard of the kitchen.

Great honest and sophisticated food. They offer a set meal at a very reasonable price. It included a few appetizers, a nice piece of fish, a large meat entree and a succulent dessert. The price for this whole meal was $60 which is super reasonable for Sydney. They deserve their #1 place. We will return!

This delightful venue located in kingscross has an air of rustic charm. There is only enough seating at the trestle table for about 20 people so make sure you book in advance - the limited number of seats available I think really gives the feeling of a personal experience.

Great little restaurant. Really enjoyed the wine choices, the service and general vibe. The food was a compulsory set menu, which we enjoyed but i can see how certain people may prefer choices. I would recommend eating here, make sure to book ahead!

One of Sydney's best places to eat. The whole dining experience was excellent, mood and food spot on. The cosy venue offers communal dining on a long table that flips up for a person to squeeze into. However it is the food that speaks volumes! I was hesitant to book in for a menu that is entirely chosen course by course by someone else, but you have to trust the chefs know what they are doing with this fixed menu. Safe to say that they do in fact know because we want to go back ASAP. The attention to detail and flavour matching was spot on with high quality food. The menu is built on a mix of home-style food but with a modern high quality twist. The portions are huge but there isn't a downside to the quantity as staff offer to box up your leftovers so no guilt for wasting tasty food. Highly recommend Farmhouse for a date night, to night out with friends.

Farmhouse was a wonderful recommendation that we tried out - a farm to table concept, with a menu that changes month-to-month. We were greeted by friendly staff and seated right in the center of the long wooden barn table. We started with a really delicious plate of baguettes and tiny cob loaf, with a pork filling and a spinach and cheese filling.  These were accompanied by delicious manchego croquettes.
The next dish was gorgeous spanner crab, native lime, roe and broth. The vegetarian option was made with mushrooms instead. This was a really light and flavoursome bowl, and a perfect palate cleanser to be honest.
Next up for me was the roast lamb shoulder, onions, a pea and mint condiment, roasted vegetables, and potato mash. The vegetarian option featured charred broccoli which was the only disappointment of the night. The lamb was incredibly tender and flavoursome, and this is coming from someone that normally doesn't enjoy lamb. The vegetables were well seasoned and paired wonderfully with the condiment, mash and lamb.
The two desserts were wonderful starting with Chocolate, hazelnut and beetroot which was such a delicious, slightly bitter and a little sweet. The beetroot is such an interesting addition to the dessert and definitely not to everyones taste. The final meal was the apple tart which tasted like an elevated apple pie with delicious cinnamon and warm spices.
Overall the experience was really wonderful! I definitely recommend it, but I think it's a great experience if you don't have any dietary requirements - that way you can enjoy the menu as is!

Booked earlier today and was told that the only table available was outside: was initially hesitant but we are so pleased we went.
Mike/Michael was such an amazing host: open minded, seeking feedback and he explained the menu in such detail (tonight was the 1st time it was being served: changed every fortnight) and guided us throughout the evening as courses were served......helped us carefully choose our wine too.
Food was incredible. We have eaten in some very good places (here and at home in UK): this would compare with any of them based on the whole experience.
Even when it came to deciding on which “dessert” wine to have with the puds, Michael was so good in helping us make the right decision.
This restaurant is truly one of Sydney’s best kept secrets: so pleased we have discovered it.

The massive mountain of mash was so delicious and the tangy taboulleh was a heavenly complement with the lamb. The mustard apricot also helped to cut the richness of the lamb

Reservations are made via text (responded to very quickly). Half the menu is changed every fortnight and can be found on Instagram.

Seating is communal on a long table however you are seated far enough that you don't need to talk to them if you don't want to!!

The food was seriously great. The cured scallops, beef cheek and blood orange dessert were the stand outs for me (the starter and second dessert were still very good!!). Portion sizes were very generous and there were left overs. Definetly try this place!!!

Consistently delicious home-style food with a twist. Cosy atmosphere, warm staff and seasonal flavours that you just want more of!
Have been numerous times, once we booked out the entire restaurant for a 50th birthday and others just with smaller groups, and every time has been memorable.

A beautiful, cosy restaurant that has one long table for all of their guests! Farmhouse changes their set menu daily, ensuring that only the freshest produce/ingredients are used!

We came here with a party of 5 and we had a great time! It was a beautiful feast, with the food being served on stunning share plates.

The food was amazing, especially for the price!

They do 2 dining sessions per night and only seat about 20 people, so it's best to book in advance!

IF you want a change to test your tummy for a treat or a feast…

Then you can consider farm house. It's a mixture of communal mountain like dining in Europe...

It's not what you expect still with memories of
long ago brought to the 21st century balance.

Happy to say absolutely worth it; I wouldn't change anything about this place.
True to its era in a sensational uplifting way.

Taste the difference.

I was intrigued why the restaurant was called Farm House?  It ain't really any barn, haystack, or live chickens around in the heart of once-upon-a-time club percent Kings Cross.  On the contrary the venue was tiny, the industrial kitchen was smaller than the kitchen in our shoe box flat.  It was extraordinary that chef and his crew rustled up magical dishes in such a confined space night after night.  It was a set menu of 5 courses for $60 per head, a la carte option was not available.  That took the decision-making out of the way and the experience commenced as soon as you sat down along the one large communal table.  There were a few wines available by glass while most were available by bottle.  We chose a mid range French red at around $60, which wasn't too bad.

In plain English, the first course was bread with pumpkin dip and pickled vegetables.  It looked and tasted rustic. If you were hungry, the bread was good to line up your stomach and set you up for the rest of the meal.  To my surprise, the pumpkin dip (in a soup texture more or less) was served cold, quite cold?!  Maybe I prefer my soup piping hot, and this was a novelty to me.  In contrast the second course was exquisite visually and taste wise - blue swimmer crab, roe, asparagus and almond. It was delicate but once again it was served colder than room temperature.  It was probably a dish served better in high summer.

The main course (3rd course) was roast chicken with mashed potatoes and vegetables.  It came in four seperate plates, one for the chicken, one for the vegetables, one for eggplant especciale, and one dipping sauce of ginger and shallots(?).  It was certainly good value for money.  Just this dish alone was enough to feed two people without the bread at the start.  Only a few bits into it, I was already quite stuffed. In the hindsight, I probably shouldn't finish all the bread they served in the entree and save some room for the main; or maybe have so much bread as first course wasn't the best idea? Having said that, the chicken was succulent and juicy, it was as good as roast chicken gets.

After a ten minutes time out, we were ready for desserts.  The first dessert was Lychee and coconut tart.  Staff told me they bought the pastry ready-to-serve but made the sweet topping in the house, it was very nice and subtle in lychee flavour in case you are not a fan of lychee.  But I would prefer it was all made from scratch in the restaurant.  The second dessert was once again beautifully presented and tasted sensational. It was olive oil cake in orange and spiced rum. It was finishing the dinner on a high note.

For $60 pp (excluding drinks) it was definitely good value for quality food.  One thing that puzzled me was I couldn't quite put my finger on the genre of this establishment? Two out of the five courses were degustation portion and presentation which lured me to think it was fine dining. But the other three courses were rustic, generously sized, and hearty.  It was quite the opposite to fine dining.  Maybe it didn't matter as long as the food tasted good and customers enjoyed themselves.

I give extra half point for the friendliness of the staffs and the cosiness of the environment. A place that don't look much when you enter. The country style and creative table design are nice touches to the deco. If you are looking for a filling and homely-style food with friends or family, with a touched of "classiness", I will highly recommend this. Cost of the meal is slightly on the costly side, but you will definitely have a wonderful evening with them.

Visiting from Singapore and being a foodie at heart, I did my research on restaurants in Sydney and Farmhouse came up as one of the few must-try spots, and it more than exceeded my expectations! Farmhouse's ambiance was rustic chic and it served up a hearty 5 course meal at a very reasonable A$60 per person! I was stuffed by the main course (there was quite a substantial amount leftover which the restaurant kindly packed for us to take home) but soldiered on with the desserts - the pumpkin and maple tart was mindblowing. Overall a perfect dining experience. Thanks Farmhouse!

Need something like this in Melbourne too! Cosy little rustic restaurant serving fresh quality country produce in the city. You would've thought nanna was cooking. Seating is along a long wooden communal table with just a couple of seats available by the window front looking into the restaurant which I thought was pretty cool. We thoroughly enjoyed the well balanced flavours and textures albeit way too much food for a lunch. Everyone seemed to be taking their fair share of doggy bag of substantial leftovers. I was wondering whether the menu should instead go for a little less (currently $60/person) with reduced portions (we had 2 sweet dishes which we didn't think we needed...) and maybe have a +extra $ option for those who did need the extra feed. Service was great, loved the fact the chefs themselves came out to present the dishes as well. Thoroughly enjoyed the Chenin Blanc we had with our Tuscan feed. Bill came out handwritten ...made me think perhaps if their menu was handwritten too, it would add that nice rustic touch...just a thought! Have looked at other reviewers' takes on the previous menus - would definitely come back to see what other food creations these young chefs come up with!

Every once in a while, a restaurant just comes along and blows you away. Their execution is precise and yet they do it so effortlessly. Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to introduce you to Farmhouse, our favourite restaurant of 2016 thus far. I know we’re only early into 2016, but it would take a miracle to topple Farmhouse as our restaurant of the year.

When we recently went to Sydney, we made it our mission to not only revisit some of our favourite restaurants there, but to also expand our horizons in search of something fresh. When Helen told me excitedly she booked a restaurant called Farmhouse for my birthday, I was more than intrigued. She told me this mythical story about a place that brings the country to the city. Country style cooking using fresh produce and everyone sits on a large wooden communal table. That was all I needed to know, and I never looked up the menu or any photos as I wanted to be surprised by what they had to offer.

To my amazement, I found out they were located at Kings Cross! Not the sort of place I’d expect a restaurant with this theme to be located at, however once we got there, I realised that they blended in so seamlessly with their surroundings that I actually forgot where I was. A top notch restaurant should be able to take you on a journey, a place that makes you forget where you are, and their food capable of bringing back vivid past memories, this is what Farmhouse does so well.

When we arrived we were greeted with an earthy and wooden, rustic feel. Their Farmhouse name was actually etched on a wooden palate outside the entrance – how cool is that?! There were 3 seats available away from everyone else at the bar, that looks into the restaurant itself. However, our preference was always going to be the communal table! Once inside, more rustic wooden cabinets to the left and the exposed wooden beams really set the place off! Due to us being a little late for the 6:30PM session, we were a little bit behind with the first course. This wasn’t a problem at all, as they quickly brought the food out to us, and we soon caught up to the others with our lightning eating speeds!

Farmhouse hits that magical sweet spot of $60 AUD per person for their 5 course set menu. Even though Helen and I spend a lot of money eating out, it still feels a bit expensive when the food is $100 or above per person. This price is exceptional value for the quality of food you get here.

Whilst all the dishes were great, there were 3 dishes which really stood out. The spanner crab with a light corn soup, asparagus and radish, the whole baked Rainbow trout with mash, farmhouse tabbouleh, wasabi/sour cream condiment, zucchini & pine nut salad and the cold ‘apple pie’ were the cream of the crop! The texture and sweetness of the crab meat is boosted when combined with the light corn soup. The whole rainbow trout was really fresh, and I love it when fish is served whole! I think we tend to forget what fish looks like at times due to us eating so many fillets. Texture was soft and tender, the wasabi and sour cream condiment gave it a nice little kick. The colours of the whole carrots, the thin slices of zucchini and the rough scatter of dill shows that this is indeed country style cooking.

I was most skeptical with the cold ‘apple pie’, as I don’t generally like apple pies much. This turned out to be one of my favourite desserts of all time… this cold and deconstructed apple pie was very creative as it had granita on top. The combination of the crumble was crunchy and every bite sent chills up my spine! Delicious.

Our visit to Farmhouse has been an eye opening experience. By creating a set seasonal menu, the chef is working around the fresh produce. I don’t believe it should ever be the other way around as no chef could make bad produce taste good. By having a set menu it presents everyone with the same foods, therefore people don’t get to pick their own dishes. Whilst this may sound negative, I believe it opens up people to foods which they otherwise would not order. This is a form of food education and I like the fact that it takes people out of their comfort zone. For example, I would have never ordered a cold ‘apple pie’ if I saw it on the menu, but because I got it as part of this set menu, it became one of my favourite desserts of all time! Funny how sometimes having a choice can hinder your food experiences.

Chef and co-owner Mike Sung also came out to have a chat to us and even gave us free dessert wine for my birthday. Farmhouse really is the complete package and I’m so happy to have enjoyed this experience. I cannot wait to revisit next time I’m in Sydney. Until then we wish Mike and his team all the best!

Went there recently for one of my best friends' birthday, my birthday and then my husband's birthday. I love the cozy environment and the young and friendly atmosphere. I did not mind the noise level as it was never meant to be a fine dining sort of place and if you want a quiet place, obviously you would not be going to somewhere like Farmhouse where you sit around a long table with other fellow diners you've never met before.
The thing I enjoyed the most was how diligent and attentive the staff were. They were just so friendly and super professional. The chef and owner seemed to remember everything we chat about a month ago. Their outstanding service seems to boost the restaurant's reputation - and it is important yet so many restaurants fail at this.
Their food's great but generally taste similar for every fortnightly menu.
The food portion is huge - expect to be well fed for a mere $60 per person. The portion is ridiculously big for the price so it's definitely value for money.
Overall, we loved it and will be going back for every birthday.

I can't believe it has taken me so long to find here because WOW what amazing food, atmosphere and service. We sat at the bar not the share table and it was so much fun. The food was exceptional with that perfect mixture of home cooked and restaurant style food. To start, we had the cob loaf with French onion dip, pickled veg and crisps, it was heaven! Then we had the asparagus with cauliflower and jamon and it was sooo good and fresh. The main meal was the highlight, chicken cooked to perfection, juicy and perfectly season, the best mashed potato I've ever had paired with homemade stuffing and cranberry and sour cream. The desserts (yes there were two!) the granita was just perfect, not to frozen and the cream underneath was yummo and the prune tart was like a Christmas cake.

If you haven't been here yet, make a booking. Now. It's one of the best places to eat in Sydney!

The menu changes every 2 weeks and served sharing family style. Set menu of 5 courses for $55 - the dishes were very hearty and comforting, not to mention the more than generous portion. A slight issue may be the communal table seatings. Great if you dined as a group, maybe a tad awkward if there were only the 2 of you.

Each dish was executed beautifully and the flow of the set menu was seamless. Each dish complimented the next.

At the head of Farmhouse are Mike Mu Sung and Tristan Rosier who collectively have worked at est. , Sixpenny and Biota . The concept is somewhat different to other restaurants – there is only one long table seating 20. One nifty thing is that some sections of the table can open up like a flap, so you can still get out if you’re seated right in the middle of 10 people. There are two seatings: 6:30pm and 8:30pm sharp. It’s been a while since I’ve had a communal dinin

Amazing birthday dinner - MUST TRY!. I had my birthday dinner here last night with 15 people and it was incredible! Mike and Tristan created 4 courses that were not only delicious, but creative and original. The two stand out dishes were the cheese curds with tomatoes & herbs which were bursting with flavour and the main course of Pork Belly with peaches and Tuscan cabbage. Like a dinner party hosted by friends who can really, really cook. Read about Farmhouse in Vogue Living and booked after some friends raved about it - I wasn't disappointed! It's like a private dinner party hosted by friends who can really, really cook.

FOOD: The food is a set menu of 4 courses (+1 surprise course) that changes every 3 weeks. It's seasonal, uncomplicated and definitely filling. It was refreshing to be served complete meals with sides and there wasn't any tiny plates with foam or smears that represent a course that you need a teaspoon to eat. You're generally served a large plate to share (except for the desserts).

#1: We started with a plate of fresh bread (Pane di Lariano), prosciutto, garlic aioli and pickles.

#2: Chicken, corn, spinach, blackened onion - The boys have one dish each (#2 was Tristan's and #4 was Mike's) and the rest are done together. This was just beautiful. The skin was seasoned to perfection and the pureed spinach and blackened onion complemented it well. Some diners remarked on the amount of salt and garlic, but to me, this is seasoning. Definitely a highlight!

#3 - Roast pork, mash, apple, fennel, crackling - I was pretty much full by #2 but this dish arrived and it was a HUGE. A plate full of roast pork, carrots and mash and sides of fennel and dill (?!?) and an incredible chunky apple sauce. One of the best roasts I've ever had, especially the potatoes.

#4 - Salted caramel popcorn with Strawberries, vanilla & Champagne granita - This was Mike's dish and it was incredible. The salted caramel helped add texture and contrast the flavours. A very sophisticated dish.

#5 (not on the menu, and no photo as I ate it too quickly, but it does exist!) - Coconut cake with cream, macadamias and lime syrup (not too sure on the wording of this as it's not on the menu). Most people had this as take away but my friend and I found room. The cake was very moist and the cream went well. My only wish is that this came with tea/coffee (I didn't ask, but I didn't see it on the menu).

ATMOSPHERE: The restaurant is petite, but well designed. I wasn't sure how we'd get in/out of the communal table, but the table tops come off for easy access. They make great use of space and I didn't feel crowded. Communal dining wasn't a problem either and we had a great neighbours either side. They have great attention to detail and the cutlery and glassware were beautiful.

SERVICE: Our host Sophy was lovely, the service is very polished and seamless, glasses are filled and plates are taken away without even noticing. She was amazing! Tristan and Mike were also helpful in explaining the dishes.

VALUE: Surprisingly good. $55 for 4 courses is great value for food this good, let alone the surprise cake. The wines start from $11 a glass, the list is small but well thought out. We spent $125 for 2 + tip and left absolutely stuffed and with take away.

OVERALL: Delicious food and crazy good value ($55 for 4 courses + surprise extra cake), great music and polished service. Would definitely go back here regularly.

TIP: Visit for Sunday lunch if you want to take your time. They do double sittings except for Sunday lunch and you can take your time as there is no one booked after. We dined for Sunday dinner and we stayed past 9pm, but check this as website says they do two sittings for Sunday dinners.

Leftovers - My friend and I weren't able to finish everything and they happily offered take away for the left overs so we didn't waste the food and could share with our friends who missed out.

Sensational!. I hired out the Farmhouse for my 30th birthday this weekend, and what a night it was! The team at the Farmhouse were so helpful - allowing us to arrive early to make sure we had the most out of the time we had the restaurant. They catered for the dietary requirements of everyone including making me a lactose free cake!
The food was incredible, the atmosphere perfect, and the staff were attentive but not in your face. I couldn't fault the evening, and am so glad I chose to have my birthday here.
I would highly recommend going all out and getting 2 of your nearest and dearest for a dinner here, and go for the later seating so you can really enjoy having a restaurant to yourself!

Had a great time and meal here. We were in a group of 12 for a work function so had most of the inside long table. Excellent service from start to finish. Very accommodating with dietary requirements too. The starters of pickles and exceptional bread were nicely done. The eggplant with miso was perfectly done as were the hassleback potatoes, roast onions and super fresh salad. Also had two sweet dishes to finish which were amazing. Good drinks and wine list. Also thought the way the long table could open up to let guests sitting on the wall side to get out was very neat. Definitely worth a try.

Fine Dining is Back! We found this beautiful, intimate restaurant last night and wow, I am still hallucinating about the food today. The wine list was stunning to match the fixed 4 course meal. The meal included best pipi's I have ever had, amazing fish and a duck entree I am still enjoying in my mind. Thank you Mike and team -great restaurant for couples.

The menu here is deceptively simple. Everything which came out however was incredible fresh, fragrant and so tasty. Wine selection is very good as well. The price is on point and the service excellent. I can see why this small restaurant is the one everyone is raving about. As a side note re COVID, staff here were extremely cautious about proper distancing and actively monitoring who was sitting where and moving around. Very well managed (far better than many other places we’ve been to in Sydney lately).

My favourite restaurant in Sydney. We went twice for Birthdays and the staff is lovely, the food is divine, I love to discover their recipes which is always with a twist. I will come back that for sure, everytime we have some family or friends from Overseas
