Review Jack & Knife - Sydney

Donna Gow
As a local resident of postcode 2010 Jack & Knife has been recommended to me many times by various people and I am so glad I finally made it there. Located in bustling Stanley St the food, service and wine offerings make this a place not to miss. We tried the chefs tasting menu and it did not disappoint. We were there fairly early for dinner (6pm) so we were lucky enough to have the Chef explain each dish on the menu before it was served. The service was exemplary and the serves of matching wine were perfect and of a decent size. I can’t recommend it enough. If you’re in search of a delicious meal with a chilled out, relaxed atmosphere head on in to Jack and Knife - you won’t be. My favourite is the steak tartare on 3 cheese toasted sandwich with the tom tam cheesecake! Divine 💕

Looking for good food? Search no further. At Jack & Knife the food are so flavourful, you just find yourself eating and eating away. A prefect place for small to large group gathering as dishes are designed to share with family and friends. The service is wonderful and staff are attentive to your needs. My personal favourite is the Beef tartare, 3 Cheese toastie, Dijon. Must try.

Amazing food, service and experience. Made a booking for 30 people and were fully accommodated for and given a beautifully tailored menu. They make an amazing Tim Tam Cheesecake and a drink called the Blue Unicorn, it has popping candy allover the edge of the glass, it's magical!

Highly recommend coming to this recently opened bar / restaurant. My favourite was the Duck Confit and the cocktail Lemon Grass Coconut 😍 Great place to come for after work or dinner with mates, casual place but staff are super friendly attentive. The only negative for tonight was they didn't have paywave, I mean this is 2018 and it's a must for business especially in the F&B sector. But other than seriously guys get yourself there for drinks food & chill

I ordered for starters: Kingfish tiradito with chili, sweet potato & citrus. It was fresh and delicious, although it was a little too much lime for me but still lovely. For entrée I had Duck confit with lentils & pumpkin salad. I was concerned of overeating (and wanting to have a dessert), and Head chef Chris made sure that I had the best time by customizing it with a yummy pumpkin salad. The duck itself was tender and full of flavour. Finally for dessert I had Tim Tam “no bake” Cheesecake. It had the appearance of a Tiramisu but taste of a cheesecake. And you can never get it wrong with Tim Tams. This was a sweet end to a brilliant 3 course meal.

Walked in without a wait. The food and wine in this place would trump 1 hat restaurants, and match many 2 hatters. An undiscovered gem. Will def be back...

You need to go to this restaurant! The food was delicious and their cocktail list is killer. Try the aubergine, I am not typically a fan but the way it was prepared was amazing! They have a great space for private functions as well.

Update: Came here again the tried different dishes and the dessert. Loved the pumpkin with the honey pecans! The beef rib was pretty good; cornbread madeleines, not so much. The confit duck was nicely flavoured! I really liked the Oreo no bake cheesecake! The portions don’t seem to be consistent for the dishes overall though...(checked out pics on IG)

Awesome restaurant serving up some of the best chicken wings! The chef was awesome, he came over and talked us through the menu because we had major trouble deciding what to get. We got the popcorn, gin cured salmon, ocean trout and steak with dashi butter. The ocean trout was wrapped in bacon so that was definitely interesting, but the trout itself was pretty bland. The steak was very well done and the beetroot chips served with it were amazing!

Came here with friends for dinner after an earlier booking at another place fell through! By the end of the meal definitely felt this was the right choice. The chef was kind enough to chat to us about the meal and he was passionate about the produce in season and how he used them to create the dishes. It was a lovely touch.

The menu is divided into small, medium, and large dishes as well as sweet. As there were 4 of us we got a bit off each section which is great to avoid fomo and the menu is designed exactly for that. All the dishes are designed to share and the flavour is delivered in spades.

We had Popcorn & Roasted Brussel Sprouts to start. The popcorn had a slight spicy kick with the jalapeño butter. Not usually a fan of brussel sprouts but these were served with cheddar and bacon. Bacon makes everything better!

The Gin-Cured Salmon was presented beautifully and went down a treat. The Mac ‘N Cheese was creamy and comforting. All the good stuff in one dish.

The large plates were definitely the highlights of the evening. The chef recommended the Roast Half Chicken. So glad we took him up on it as the 42 hour sugar brine allows the meat to stay succulent and flavours that develop during the cooking of it were amazing. One of most tender pieces of chicken I’ve had for ages. The Eight-Hour Beef Short Rib was falling from the bone and very delicious pieces of meat. Cornbread madeleines might be slightly dry if eaten on own when combined with the blue cheese sauce it was great.

Finished with desserts served in jars. We had the Jack Daniels Chocolate Mousse and Cookies & Cream “No Bake” Cheesecake. The table was divided which was their favourite. Evenly split and the Mousse was light and not too heavy with a hint of the alcohol in it. Cheesecake was equally light and had a good flavour to it.

Service is friendly and helpful although not as polished as expected. Menus were left on our tables for a while after ordering.

Overall great addition to the Sydney dining scene and love the seasonal produce showcased.

Try this new bar . Try their favourite dishes such as slow cooked ribs for 42 hours and madeleine with blue cheese sauce and whole rainbow trout with whiskey and bacon wrap.
The fish is cooked really good goes as well the ribs. But the Madeleine not really my favourite. It’s better if they choosed other creative sides with the ribs.
The dessert that we choose is the jack Daniels chocolate mousse. Their favourite time dessert. The liquor quite strong and I like it. But the texture not too smooth like mouse. Really hope if the mouse more smooth and they put some fresh fruit as decorations :)
Overall really good place and the services the best!!
The service is 4/5
