One of my favourite gelato shops. This was the first out of all the Sydney stores I've visited. The scoops are generous and the flavours are delicious
I've been here several times and walked from different parts of the CBD to go here specifically.
I was on a trip to Australia for almost 25 days and used to have everything possible in terms of desert. Have #FOMO on to these brilliant ice cream outlets. So we tend to had icecream from every possible outlet of the city and couldn’t be thankful enough for such oozing out melting in the mouth kinda desserts. So we ordered double scoop of Cioccolato and Caramello Salato (loved the bits of salted caramel in it ). OHH!! What an amazing texture and an incredible flavor. This was the best ice cream I ever had ever in my life. I will highly recommend any of the outlet of rivereno gelato in whole of Australia.
P.S :- Give a try to Mango heera as well..it will surely pull you back to alphonso season.
We went there on a Friday night. The gelato shop is very busy, so we don't have much time to decide what flavour to go for. As it's our first time there, we spent time reading the menu on the wall. BUT the characters are too small!
Anyway we made a quick and “secure" decision. The pistachio flavour we've picked up was OK, but not amazing.
Read some reviews about how this is the best gelato in Sydney, and whilst it certainly aint bad, it was wasn't as amazing as I was expecting and tasted a bit grainy. That aside, flavours were pretty nice.
Everyone goes on about the best gelato but this has to be up there, Great flavours and deep flavour in the gelato. If you've tried Cow n Moon and want to try somewhere else then I'd suggest RivaReno.
THE BEST GELATO IN SYDNEY. Absolutely incredible flavour and texture. The gelato is so creamy and thick. They store the gelato in stainless steel tubs called pozetti, which makes such a big difference to the consistency and taste. The gelato just melts in your mouth. Love the Baccio flavour (chocolate and hazelnut). Honestly gelato to die for.
Absolutely love the gelato here - it’s creamy and full of flavour. Definitely opt for the chocolate drizzle on top of your gelato! They downside is that their serving sizes aren’t very consistent...one staff would be very generous, another would give you a tiny scoop...
Has to be one of the best, most fragrant. hazelnut gelato I’ve ever tried! The texture is incredibly smooth and creamy, could possibly be too rich for some, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

The gelato was so creamy! We tried the mango heera, ricotta & fichi, contessa, carmello salato, Alice and nocciola piemonte.
I made the smart choice of ordering the mango heera with the carmello salato so mine weren't too sweet. The mango heera was the smoothest and I really liked how the there were bits of salted caramel in the carmello salato for texture.
My friends felt like after a while their flavours were too sweet and it was hard to distinguish them. So I would recommend to order a more decadent flavour at the bottom and fruit one for the top.
I felt the cup was a little small but maybe that was me wishing for more. At $7 for two scoops, I'm not sure I will be coming back.
Hands down the best gelato I’ve ever had!
So creamy and tasty. The flavours are so unique and creative, they like nothing else I’ve seen.
Absolutely incredible.

Gelato that is melt in your mouth super super yummy! Creamy, artisan gelato with few flavors that pack a punch. We loved the crepes as well but the pistachio gelato is the best 👍😝😝
Gelato Messina move on over! RivaReno Gelato is our favourite of the two! The ice cream is velvety and rich. The flavours are just spot on. It is hard to just choose one scoop to be honest. We like to get some Burnt FIg ice cream and some plain vanilla (although there is nothing plain about it) to serve with our choccolate brownies.
Wondering why we only give it 4 stars? They do an Alfonso Mango frozen yogurt - and for the Indian of us that is just plain blasphemy. He loves Alfonso Mango but hates yogurt - so a combination of the two is just not on. Or so he thinks. . . The German loves the flavour combination. So go and try it out when you see it on the menu.
$5.00 for a scoop!
This is what is called a real gelato! So creamy and thick~ i chose the crema rivareno. Really chocolate-y yet so 🤤 my friend recommend the pistacchio!
Chocolate sorbet is a must try if you love chocolate! So rich, dark, and deep. I'm not a chocolate lover myself but even I can agree this was some gooooood sorbet.
heaven in a cup. the consistency of their ice cream was so incredibly creamy and smooth it tasted delectable. you can taste the freshness in the ice cream. their flavours are so exquisite and sound so exotic! i got the cremino dark which tasted like heaven; it wasn’t too rich at all and tasted like nutella due to the lovely hazelnut flavour. the new york was also nice, with a creamy maple and pecan flavour. cant wait to try the whole menu oh myy.
Had my wisdom teeth out and severely limited on the food I could consume. Lucky for me gelato is one of them! Decided on a gelato day and this was the first stop. Located on Crown Street it wasn’t too busy at this time of day. The lady serving at the counter was bubbly and lovely. She offered samples before you bought. She suggested one her favourites which was the Cremino Rivareno which had white chocolate and hazelnut but that was even a tad too sweet even for me!
I went with a three scoop cup and had Cocco (coconut), Nocciola Piemonte (hazelnut), and Contessa (almond). They all had a nice creamy and smooth consistency. The flavours of each were distinctive and tasty. I saw they had a winter menu and the item that caught my eye on the counter was the Cioccolata Calda (dense italian hot chocolate). It fit with my current eating schedule so had that and very much enjoyed it. It was piping hot and very thick. Nice Valrhona chocolate used and a nice foil to the gelato.
I also got my sister a two scoop cup as she worked close by! She wanted Marena (vanilla with sour cherries) and Pistacchio Bronte (pistachio). She enjoyed it even thought it might’ve been slightly melted by the time she got it!
Well worth trying out.
This is a great spot for some delicious gelato. The texture is very smooth and rich. My top flavours are pistachio and hazelnut. The dark chocolate is very intense.
I love how simple and basic the flavours are, but they were exceptionally good. Cremino rivareno, pistacchio bronte and cioccolato extra fondente are a must-try. 😍😍 i will definitely visit again when I get back!
Great gelato but not amazing (for my liking).
When arrived at the venue we had to wait for the service for a while. The staff were there talking to one another (they saw us coming) while we waited to be served.
Tried the New York, New York flavour. Would be nice to get more of the caramelised pecans inside. Pricewise is more on the expensive side (tiny cup for $5).
Somehow the gelato melts so quickly within a few seconds.
Quite possibly the best ice-cream I’ve ever had! We ordered the vanilla and two hazelnut flavours (can’t remember the specific name). EXTREMELY creamy and delicious! Highly highly recommend this place to anyone who loves ice-cream.
Good quality icecream and granita. This time we got a cremina (white chocolate hazelnut) popsicle and also a grapefruit granita. Always keep an eye on the menu as they like to swap in/out flavours regularly which keeps it interesting.
RivaReno gelato is a really busy gelato store on Crown street. You can get gelato in cups or cones as well as
Granitas, shakes and cakes. We tried a few different flavours including coffee, pistachio and the caramel. It was extremely creamy. Staff were really polite and efficient.
The gelato is unbeatable but the thickshake is next level!! Amazing. Best ice cream in Sydney with delicious Italian flavours that are consistant and not too sugary
This place looked like an authentic gelataria, just its simplicity and no bs vibe of the place. I got a swirly chocolate ganache ice cream and friend got a lemon sorbet.
My one tasted more like a mouse, it wasn’t very cold and overly sweet. But the lemon sorbet was superb!! It was sourly, not sweet and offers a good refreshing kick which is what you want for dessert.
Very friendly staff and nice window seating.
Can't believe I had never heard of this gelato place until now! The gelato here was incredibly rich in flavour, combined with a very creamy and smooth texture 😍
This gelato shop is not at all stingy on their servings and are instead very generous - considering it was $5 for one scoop. It was a very indulging experience and I felt like I got the chance to have a taste of authentic Italian gelato in Sydney.
Gelato was so smooth and creamy, possibly the best I have had in Sydney. The flavour was rich and delicious. I had the New-York New-York and will definitely be back to try others!
The gelato is made fresh daily, and this is evident in the texture and taste. If you plan on going later at night, be aware that their more popular flavours may sell out.
Awesome traditional gelato with amazing rich flavours and texture that fondles your taste buds. I'd definitely recommend trying the crimero and ganache!
Our favourite ice cream and sorbetto in the world! Better than Messina.
Friendly service and gets the late afternoon sun so sitting in is very pleasant
I'll start off by saying that i'm not generally a fan of gelato... BUT this quickly changed when I was introduced to RivaReno. I honestly think this place was love at first site. They prepare their gelato using product imported from italy and it tastes like no gelato i've ever experienced before. Friendly service, OUTSTANDING gelato and overall, somewhere I am genuinely looking forward to heading back to. Their gelato melts in your mouth.... it is so creamy and velvety, and the flavours are perfect. I honestly just want to say "perfect, perfect, perfect'"! We tried their hazelnut gelato, their dark chocolate cremino flavour and one of their white chocolate cremino's as well. Honestly, it pretty much as smoothe as chocolate mousse. It melted in my mouth, didn't give me a brain freeze, and the flavours were superb. 5/5!!! You MUST check them out
Fantastic ice cream based on refined , gourmet ingredients. Quality and creativity! Some flavours surprising . My favourite one was with dar cherry
The texture of the gelato here is so smooth. Almost soft serve like. I had mango, yoghurt flavour and something with fig. The mango flavour was very prominent. Loved it! Fig one, on the average side for me.
The Tiny Fish says: "I broke my dairy fast for RivaReno, and not even my upset tummy had regrets."
Price: $4.90 for a single scoop.
Quality: CREAMY. I got the Cremino RivaReno which was hazelnut and white chocolate heaven. I also tasted many others, which were also beautiful.
Atmosphere: the venue is a great after dinner hangout, located just off Oxford Street. We came here after a lovely dinner at nearby Lucio's Pizzeria (check out my review on Zomato)

So obsessed with RivaReno Gelato! I think it's such an under appreciated venue! Can't go past a huge scoop of the dark chocolate then topped with more chocolate sauce. It's rich, filling and completely satisfying.
My second time here in as many weeks - this time tried the Darlinghurst outlet. It was just as good as Barangaroo. This place has perfected some sort of gelato making method that clearly is a level above everyone else.. except maybe cow and the moon - its touch and go.
Had the Bacio to try something different - basically a Nutella dance party inside your mouth. Brilliant.
Best gelato you can have in Sydney! Messina,..del Mamma,Cow and the Moon..sorry but RivaReno would sweep over all with its gelato texture, quality and taste! With that said I have never tried their milkshake, sorbet, ice cream cake..I only once tried their pre-made ice cream block and it was bland.. but their fresh gelato/ice creams so perfect that every flavour that I tried I can get the taste of every ingredient! Their most seller cremino rivareno but my personal one is cremino dark! Some days I crave for it:))
*update: Well, I had to get half point as not all the time their ice cream is as in the same texture or taste as other times, so there is a bit of lack in consistency!
Best Gelato in Sydney by far. As close as you will get to traditional Italian Gelato. Most people need exotic mixed flavours and that very creamy texture but that's not what great Gelato in Italy is like. The flavour you get out of their Gelato tastes so authentic and the texure is just so silky and smooth. As perfect as you're going to get in Australia.
Hands down the best gelato place I have tried in Sydney. The gelato here is very fresh, made daily, if you go there late they may run out of many popular flavors. It's very creamy and smooth, and you can taste the real ingredients. My favorite flavor is pistachio;)
So creamy and absolutely devine. Definitely coming back. Their gelato is top quality and their flavours are awesome. Lovely fit out to go chill out with friends (or even have some down time to yourself!). Calming and relaxing environment, nice staff.
I was craving some Gelato after dinner last night and remembered that this place was recommended to me by Thefoodbotherer so I decided to try! I ordered the Fragola (Strawberry) gelato. It was very good! The flavour was rich and not heavy at all. Although dismayed at the cost for a single scoop ($5!) it was quite delicious.!
long time no lick lover • hands down the best gelato in Sydney (personally think anywhere but to be fair I haven't tried every gelato in world although have tried plenty in Sydney • a scoop of sorbetto cioccolato extra bitter and a scoop of ricotta and fichi • the chocolate is basically extra dark chocolate sorbet and the other is sheeps milk ricotta with caramelised figs • Riva Reno store their gelato in metal containers and do not expose the product to the air until ready to scoop • their gelato is served warm as gelato should not give a cold sensation to the palate • they don't use any preservatives, additives or other chemical nasties, focussing on pure alpine milk and cream with natural fruits and flavours • perfecto • #rivareno #gelato #thebest #surryhills #birthdayweekend #sydneyfoodie #foodpics #zomatoaus #buzzfeedfood #huffposttaste #foodstagram #eeeeeats #nomnom #forgetthatothercrownstwannabe #hellolongweekend #sorbet #chocolate #ricotta #sheepsmilk #figs #cioccolato #fichi #perfecto
The best Gelato in town. Forget Messina or others. I am a Rivareno addicted from 2 yrs, always great and fresh gelato.
The best is the Pistacchio :D
I think it’s a cool thing that RivaReno Gelato built up a story about authenticity, and having ingredients imported from Italy, making their gelato in a traditional Italian style and even storing them in traditional cylinders. It would be easy to imagine that every ice cream store would fail in a competition against Gelato Messina, just because they are SO popular.
Went on a Saturday evening. It was very crowded and had to wait for a while for our turn. Tried 2 flavours and both were very good. The texture and taste was on point.
Best gelato I have ever had. You must try the White chocolate with ganache, it's simply the best flavour and melts in your mouth! Prices are reasonable as well, so no complaints!
Authentic Italian soft and creamy gelato. Tried the contessa and New York New York, both were tasty and not too sweet. Love how you can see the staff making gelato at the back and also looking forward to trying the Handmade gelato sticks in the display window next time. Def worth checking out . No eftpos cash only but wasn't a problem as the ATM is a stones throw away.
Beautiful soft and creamy icecream!! It was not too sweet and it tasted really refreshing and light. I got the extra bitter chocolate sorbet and the ricotta and fig gelato. It was super tasty and I highly recommend the extra bitter chocolate!!! It was amazing and surprisingly creamy.
The shop has a good location, a busy atmosphere and a nice setup. It was really clean and the staff were friendly. I will definitely be back soon!!
Its no Gelato Messina but this place has beautiful flavored gelato with a smooth creamy texture if you're up Oxford street in need of a cold treat 👌

RivaReno Gelato was recommended to me by a friend – they make their gelato fresh daily from scratch, and have a great range of flavours. I was very excited to see a sorbet section on the menu, which included two of my favourite flavours – raspberry and peach. I decided to go for the peach, as it’s the rarer flavour, and was surprised by the creamy texture of the sorbet. Definitely no icy nonsense here, this is the real deal. I was struck by how buttery the flavour tasted, with an almost nutty undertone, meaning that there was clearly no artifical peach flavouring going on. The flavour seemed to develop and become more peachy the more I ate, although it certainly wasn’t a particularly sweet sorbet. I really haven’t had any icecream/sorbet like this before – it was complex and authentic, with
Authentic gelato. Up there with the best - Messina is a different beast due to the combinations they run. RivaReno is traditional - simple, honest flavours that come through as named. Very creamy texture for the gelato, and a chunkier style for the sorbets
Don't Believe The Hype

They have a few flavours they do well but the rest aren't on the same lvel as the top few gelato stores in Sydney. This is good gelato but not extraordinary.
The dark chocolate is very well done
Love the creamy texture of these gelato but it melts way too fast to be savoured & enjoyed leisurely. One of the few places that serves gelato in their little metal buckets so you cant see it, there is an interesting & delicious range of flavours. If only I can take my time a little more.
Love the peach sorbet and how it tastes so creamy even though it's dairy-free. Also had the Cremino Rivareno, which consists of white ganache and hazelnut, and the texture is likened to eating whipped cream! The quality of the gelato here is exceptional and one to remember.
Easily some of the best gelato in Sydney due to its amazing texture and flavour. Less hype than Messina but flavour is amazing. Anyone can tip a cake eg salted caramel cheesecake into gelato and have good results. Rivareno doesn't do that - it creates standalone amazing flavours. Try CREMINO RIVARENO flavour - white chocolate and hazelnut sauce. Not as sickly sweet as it sounds but heaven.
The gelato is very nice and smooth, sorbetto could be a bit creamier even if water based ( there are places in Sydney that can do that). Good to have a place to sit while enjoying the cold sweet treat. I wish only the portions were slightly bigger
I had a triple scoop with Alice, Mango Heera and some really dark chocolate flavour which I forgot the name. But it was surprisingly awesome. And enjoyed myself more than I did at Messina. The lady at the counter poured chocolate syrup below of, and, on top of my three scoops.
The Italian classics are all there but then a few unique varieties using typical ingredients such as marsala, pine nuts and amaretti. Very creamy, smooth gelato. Girl behind the counter was absolutely lovely. Parking a hassle though.
My partner and I came here not knowing what to expect. This was the best ice cream we have ever had!!! Having said this, we frequent the two most well known ice cream chains and this is a 'scoop' above the rest both in taste, texture and unfortunately price. The extra dollars are well worth the experience😊
Walked past this place and saw a guy chocolate coating the gelato icecreams by hand and thought i really gotta try this place out. I was suprised the cost was only $4 for a hand made hand choc dipped icecream... so i got the chocolate pistachio. Yum yum yum. Texture was so smooth and velvety. The choc coating was nice and thin so it wasnt so sickly and it was just the right amount of sweetness. Oh it was so good I have to make another stop tomorrow
Came here for dessert today and had the Ganache bonet, which consisted of dark chocolate, arabica coffee and amaretti. I had this delicacy in a cup and it was delicious because all the elements went well together. The place also has a really nice decor. The staff were friendly and the dessert was delivered quickly. Located in the heart of Crown st - Surry Hills, this little gem should be experienced by all. I highly recommend this place to all.
This was a much appreciated find after the disappontment that was Cremeria de Luca. Texture was smooth and creamy, with some classic flavours. Pistachio was good - not too sweet and even a touch salty though I'm not sure if it was a post-dinner effect. I thought the mascarpone was too sweet but had a clean flavour. The chocolate was ridiculously sinful. Extremely dark and rich, like a cold dense chocolate mousse. Highly recommended for serious chocoholics. Rivareno definitely dishes up the goods but falls in two areas: the store is stark white and feels pretty sterile so not really a fun place to hang out (though that might be the point). It's also quite pricey with 1 scoop in a tiny cup costing $5.
Stumbled across this hidden gelato gem, and decided to get a double scoop with hazelnut and cremino for $6.90. Fine chocolatey creamy texture that hit the right spot! Will come back to try the gelato sticks.
Such thick and creamy gelato. My partner and I agree...the best we've ever had! We had the white chocolate gnash which was to die for. They don't take Eftpos so make sure to bring your cash along.
Bought their Gelato cakes (Gianduiotto RivaReno) for my colleague's 50th Birthday. B'day Boy loves it (because it is just right, tastes natural and not overly sweet) and my team were so excited. The cake fits for 20 ppl and it is a very good value compared to others. Rivareno just updated their website so it is easier to place an order or simply drop by! :)
I'm not much of an gelato person. In fact the only gelato I like anywhere is the Caffe flavour from Rivereno. The coffee flavour is stronger than usual, it's not too sweet, and full of hunks of dark chocolate.
It may sound odd to use coffee gelato in an affogato, but it's a great combo.
In the cabinet the gelato cakes look very sophisticated & adult, great dinner party desserts. They also have chocolate covered gelato sticks, if you're going straight home sometimes they have a box of 6 assorted mini ones, very cute!
Why did I write this? Now I'm craving for that coffee gelato ...
Really creamy and delicious gelato. A place where quality is their focus and not just relying on the presentation. Serving was a bit on the small side for the price but at least you don't feel so guilty afterwards.
So goooooood! An Italian friend showed me this place and said it has the best and most authentic gelato in town. I've never had gelato in Italy before so I guess the authentic gelato must have this super creamy, rich flavors and texture. Had Mascarpone mixed with Wine gelato. Staffs are super nice, bubbly, and all smiley. Definitely will go back for more flavors.
There's something quite magical about watching freshly made gelato being churned out in all its creamy gloriousness. The thick waves folding to and fro giving off the mouth watering aromas of their ingredients. We had the pleasure to experience this at RivaReno Gelato in Darlinghurst.
I was lucky to be asked to come into RivaReno Gelato and experience a unique and true Italian standard of Gelato. I was lucky in the sense that this was the day I was soon to taste the finest in quality of gelato available in Sydney to date.
RivaReno gelato contains no preservatives and is made fresh in the store each morning and afternoon. The sorbet is dairy free and made from real fruit, including the pulp for extra texture. The granita only contains fruit, water and sugar. The products are refrigerated in deep metal containers under the counter which is the traditional way to store gelato to keep the temperature and flavour fresh. The downfall to this is that tubs aren't on display so you can't make your decision by sight.
Okay, so this place has been here for a little while and I’ve always been a bit like “yeah, whatever” about it because I didn’t think anything could come close to Messina. However my friend (who always is spot on with restaurant recommendations) swore that RivaReno Gelato was actually really good and do traditional Italian gelato really well. Who am I to disregard him when he was so right about Blancharu and Nom ? And he was right. The gelato is smooth and creamy that is more about your traditional gelato flavours than the more experimental flavours of Messina.
Direct from Italy, Rivareno Gelato have recently opened a new flagship store in Darlinghurst, Sydney – the first outside of Italy where they have over 15 branches including in Milan, Florence and Rome. Miss K and I were invited by Maria Farmer PR for a tasting session where we were able to try nearly all the flavours and learn a bit about how the gelato is made and the ingredients used. The brand is doing extremely well in Italy and we were excited to see if this store would live up to the success. The first thing I noticed about the gelato was that I couldn’t see it! Instead Rivareno stores the gelato in cooled vats the same way that it is stored in Italy, a good touch of authenticity and definitely keeps the gelato cooler since gelato naturally melts quicker than ice cream. The second thing that caught my eye was the extensive choice, full of interesting and unique flavours which all sounded delicious. They don’t have any of the ‘basic’ stuff like Vanilla, Strawberry or Chocolate – i

Rivareno is Italian gelato at its best. In Italy they have won many awards for their gelato and Sydney is lucky to have secured the first Rivareno store outside Italy through the efforts of keen foodie and gelato entrepreneur Kieran Tosolini. You must go and try this stuff.
... try all the flavours and boy are they delicious! I can’t fault any of them – the creamy ones are sinfully smooth and rich, and the fruity ones are extremely refreshing and juicy. But 17 flavours are way too much to write about, so here are our top picks
Great spot for a quality gelato fix with interesting flavours to choose. I really enjoyed New York New York, Limone, Cocco ($7.90 3 flavours). Looking forward to trying more of the flavours.
Does My Bomb Look Big In This

Well it might be winter, but my craving for gelato continues unabated, so I headed back into RivaReno for another one-on-one with Kieran Tosolini. While the store’s colours have changed (it’s a bit less fluorescent) the pozzetti – those temperature-controlled cylinders that keep RivaReno’s gelato velvety in texture – remain.
Some people don't realise what they are missing out on. Once I tasted Gelato at this place I realised I had no idea what authentic gelato should have tasted like. The creamy texture is unlikely anything I've ever tasted in Australia. I can't remember the exact names of the gelatos but I liked the choc hazalnut, pistachio, ricotta cheese and a amaretti.
They use imported Apline milk. I asked if I could taste this milk as I've heard European milk is very different to Australian milk. The man behind the counter explained to me that the product that is imported is not straight milk. They mix raw milk with the other base ingredients then the whole mixture is pasturised once before it gets shipped. Most run of the mill gelato places used powdered milk.
The closet competitor would be N2 extreme where the ingredients are mixed and frozen as you wait. However this method can create inconsistencies.
Hooked.. RivaReno makes seriously GOOD gelato (had me licking the cup and perhaps even start to believe there's a gelato god out there) - Words cannot describe how much I love the rich, natural flavours and pure creaminess from its Classic range! I don't think I can have gelato anywhere else again...there's just no close contender in Sydney.
tl;dr review - In my friend's words: "omg this is like French kiss...but Italian style"
Best gelato in Sydney!. Just like Italy! Definitely the best in Sydney.
This place was referred to me by some visiting Italians who couldn't understand why people were queueing for Messina. It was so creamy and tasted like the gelato in Italy!!
This is The best best best Gelato in Australia!!! i feel like i am back in Bologna!!!! thanks Rivareno!!!!
Best Gelato in Sydney!. My wife told me about this place after a girlfriend of hers took her there. So I decided to try it and now I love absolutely love it! Nothing beats the smooth and creamy texture of the gelato here as they store it in ‘pozzetti’. I was really intrigued to learn from the staff that it keeps the ice cream at a slightly warmer temperature giving it a richness of flavour that you don’t get anywhere else – it’s really amazing gelato! And the choice of flavours is unbelievable, not the usual boring flavours you get everywhere else. My new favourite flavours are New York New York and Alice at my new favourite Gelateria – Rivareno!
AUTHENTIC GENUINE ITALIAN. Very authentic. very Italian taste! The gelato has a lovely light texture to it and fills you up just enough to make you want it again another time.
I used to go to Messina a lot but the queue drove me crazy. This place is worth a try. They are very clean , very authentic and they store their gelato in traditional italian canisters called POZZETI. The ingredients are very fresh and staff are very polite
Real Italian stuff. Popped in here for dessert - had the 2 scoop cup. Not a huge amount of gelato for $6.90 but it was tasty. Very Italian flavours. Clean place with seat outlooking onto Crown Street. You can't see the gelato as in other places but there is a list (with Italian names). Have to say the chocolate was very rich and not commercially flavoured at all.
Best gelato in Sydney. The flavours are delicious, the quality is always of the highest standard. My favourite is Nocciola (hazelnut) - yum!
Always attentive and friendly service - these people are passionate about quality gelato and granita. You won't find overfull tubs exposed to the air growing ice crystals here. They are fanatical about temperature and quality control - they make small batches kept in sealed canisters so you always get fresh, perfect gelato. The place is always spotlessly clean, too.
Rivareno is from Italy (their Darlinghurst bar is so far their only branch outside of Italy & Malta) and they have been awarded Italian prizes for food quality including "Slow Food" movement recognition.
Great quality ice cream!. Doesn't have the over hyped up queues of messina, nor do they have the variety of flavours that they do. What they do have however is your traditional great quality ice creams, you choose from the board, as all the ice creams are hidden under canisters. The serves though are generous, the place itself has some stools to sit around but i find the place kinda sterile in scientilist lab kind of way. A nice surprise was actually the lemon sorbet which is slightly creamy but refreshingly so, probably the best I've had.
The best mango gelato!!. Was walking down Crown st after dinner and found a new gelato place (where Nu + Nan used to be) and went in since Messina was way too busy. Saw the stainless canisters and instantly reminded me of the gelato in Italy.
Ordered lemon and mango and an espresso frappe. The mango gelato is simply the best gelato I've ever tasted. So delicious! Way better than Messina! Been twice already, will definitely be going back for more :-) yum yum x
Don't be fooled by the ugliness. It's very authentic and delicious. Gelato Messina has its place for fun flavours and whatnot but rivareno is great for something cleaner and lighter with brighter flavours. I can eat twice the amount from here than at GM. which is good because the scoop sizes are twice as big and hence better value.
Most Authentic Gelato This Side Of The Mediterranean. If it's quality you're after, then head to Rivareno immediately! Sydney's struck gold!
This is the real deal, ladies and gents! You don't have to fork out a small fortune for a trip to Italy to enjoy traditional flavour sensations. The intense pistacchio is enough to send your taste buds into a tizzy, not to mention the 'Alice'; mascarpone gelato with its sumptuous lashings of melted gianduja chocolate.
You can tell a great deal about the quality of a gelateria's hazelnut flavour - the verdict - it's superb!
Get in quick and tell your friends you found a new favourite gelateria before the masses catch on (and you're having to wait 30mins for your fix, like Messina fans down the road).
Gelato Messina serves its purpose - beautifully creative (although way too sugary for my taste). If its quality and an authentic experience you're craving - Rivareno takes the crown, hands down, every time.
Do go - thank me later.
September in Sydney. To all people have not been yet here.
Check it out is at the moment the best gelateria in Sydney.
Quality gelato minus the hype of Messina. Don't get me wrong, I love the kooky flavours at Messina but the simplicity and clarity of flavours at RivaReno combined with the devine silky texture make this gelato the clear winner!
Wow. I was a bit hesitant at first, as I always go to Messina down the road, but my oh my was I surprised when I tried their gelato! It's always the case - once you try something better, you never go back. I like how there is an emphasis on the ingredients, and you actually know what you are eating. You can taste each flavour in the gelato. It is so smooth and creamy, and really reminds me of some of the fantastic gelato I had in Italy. This is my new local!
These guys know what they're doing. It ain't frozen cream with caramel and chips and whatever else smashed in, its a pure artisan product. The service is friendly and helpful and the gelato milky, smooth, dense enough and not too sweet. The first taste floored us.
I'm over that other gelato joint down the road, theres no seats, full of hipsters, loaded with sugar and last time they got my order wrong. Head down to rivareno for the best gelato in sydney
WOW!! I had the dark chocolate flavored gelato and have never had such smooth glossy silky texture. The flavor is incredible and the rich high quality of the chocolate really comes through. Ill be back to try the other flavors!
This is by far the best gelato in Sydney. I love it here because they use the best quality ingredients and it's all made fresh on the day. Strongly recommend the Alice - yum!
Hands down THE BEST gelato in Sydney (I'm sure also australia). The flavours are sensational and the texture is so velvety smooth. Have never had gelato of this incredibly high standard before in my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Warning- you probably won't be able to stop at 1 scoop
My GOD!!! Finally some good gelato in Aus!!!! About time. Me and my partner have been craving gelato since our trip to Europe last year, WE FOUND IT!!
The Best Gelato I have ever had!!Well worth the drive.
Horrible staff, no service for five minutes. The guy was flirting with a friend and feeding her free gelato. Then a girl came out of the kitchen, scooped herself a cup of gelato and went straight back into eating it.
Best, Tastiest and authentic gelato in Sydney. After having a dissappointing breakfast at Bills cafe up the rd, me and my girlfriend went to rivareno to try out gelato, i got the coconut and new york flavour in a cone, not to sweet, perfect texture, doesn't melt too quickly too and flavours not too overpowering
So happy to find RivaReno in Australia!. I was recently visiting Australia on holidays from the UK, and I was so excited when I saw a RivaReno shop in Sydney because I am a huge fan of their gelato - I've been to many of their stores in Italy, and really believe they serve the most delicious, authentic Italian gelato!
I was in Sydney for a short while, and I kept returning regularly to get my 'hit' of gelato! It's the best gelato I've ever had - they use amazing quality ingredients. I also find the staff to be really friendly.
My favourite flavours would have to be passionfruit and raspberry sorbet, and I also love New York New York and Contessa gelato. The granita (especially the pink grapefruit) that I also tried was sensational! And the people watching outside the window is so interesting! Make sure you definitely pay a visit to RivaReno when you're in Sydney
Heavenly gelato now in sydney!!. I've been to RivaReno quite a few times now and I think the gelato is fantastic! They are gelato purists - you can tell that they use high quality ingredients and the gelato is very natural unlike most other places these days! And considering they import virtually all of the ingredients from Italy and make the gelato fresh daily, it's so reasonably priced!!
The best part is that they've painted the walls and the store has a lot of warmth now!!
Be sure to check out& try Sydney's best gelato !!
