So... Sydney and Prime Steak Restaurant was the place to go to enjoy my - probably - best beef ever. Pure class!
Cool atmosphere, great service, excellent food. Not to mention the wine.
Do not miss this place when in Sydney - definitely worth a visit.
Was lucky enough to be treated to a late birthday dinner at Prime by my wonderful girlfriend. Incredible experience from start to finish. Food, service and atmosphere were as good as it gets. And the staff were just flawless in everything they did. Cannot recommend Prime highly enough.
Outstanding steaks and super friendly staff from start to finish. This place has it all. Some of the best steaks I have had.
Best steak I have eaten in my life! Highly recommend the venue, the food and the service.
I can never fault this place. My husband and I come here almost yearly for our anniversary, and our experience just gets better and better. Hats off to the chef an Nick our waiter for his impeccable service. Highly recommended.
We had the wagyu-holstein chateaubriand - easily the best steak I'd ever had. The enree of the wagyu tartare was amazing as well and the service seamless - staff went over and above to make sure we had a perfect evening. Will definitely be back.
Absolutely outstanding steaks and service. I couldn’t fault it. The food was Devine, wine list was HUGE and staff were all very helpful. Can’t wait to go back again.
We had an amazing dinner tonight - the food was fantastic and Will, the maitre d' (unsure of true official title), was extremely sociable and engaged us in delightful conversation. We would definitely recommend the Prime Restaurant for anyone who is looking to have a wonderful meal with accompanying service!
Great steaks. I am not a steak eater, however this one was amazing. Tucked underground, great ambience, well worth it. Cheers
We had dinner at Prime and the steaks and other accomplishments were excellent including the wine. Will enjoy going back to Prime sometime soon.
We had the 3 steak tasting plate...all 3 steaks were cooked to perfection...and the vegetables were ideal accompaniment. We had the chocolate tart and Baba for our deserts..both were exceptional, however the Baba was a standout...the service was very high quality...a memorable night out.
Cozy, great services and excellent beef ! This is the perfect location for a 5 star restaurant located inside the infamous Westin Hotel and adjacent to the iconic Martin Place, what more can you for !

Rates 4.25/5 on multiple visits with long intervals in between. Pics on last visit after 2020 NY.
Yearling rib eye on the bone, med rare, grain fed, depends on the actual cut, this rates 4/5, as some similar cuts can yield more tendon. That said, hats off to the chefs.
Black angus sirloin, med, grain fed, 4.5/5, my personal fav of all times. Well.. without going to wagyu MBS 9+. That was out of this world. Especially with the skills of Prime’s chefs.
Yearling tenderloin, grain fed, med, 4/5, only because of our choice as this has not much fat. But for lovers of tender meat, go for it, you wont regret it.
Black angus scotch, grass fed, med rare, 4/5, most flavoursome, a balanced cut but done med rare, it gets a wee chewy. God damn it in a good way.
Sommelier was knowledgeable, intuitive who knew close to perfect pairing (according to our dining wine wanna be connoisseur companion). I aint a wine drinker.
Aside from probably ‘Black’, the rest of steak houses pale in comparison.

Too many wines to choose from! Steaks are amazing.. only complaints the wines are overpriced for that are. Way to many waiters that interchanged through the night. (Ask for a window seat)
Came here twice and had 2 happy steak meal. Love the basement atmosphere and waiters are so handsome!! They were also very friendly and professional. Service was a bit slow but worth waiting for the perfect steak. Desserts were amazing too! The restaurant manager recognises me for my second visit, and had our desserts on the house! So happy and impressed! Will be back for our anniversary.
My husband and I have been here multiple times and absolutely love their steak which is cooked to perfection. I love having it with their truffle sauce. Staff are professional and prompt.
I had come here for an anniversary with my partner. Service was lovely, all the staff were great. They had given us a mini complimentary dessert platter which was a nice touch. The highlight of the meal was the dry aged grain fed rib eye steak, one of the better steaks I've had in Australia. We paired it with the blue cheese sauce which I found to overpower the steak a little unless you used it sparingly but it was delicious nonetheless. The confit salmon was decent and surprisingly very filling. Presentation of the mains was a little uninspiring but overall a very good experience.
Sydney and Australia's Best Steak Fine Dining Restaurant offering a first-class dining experience. Prime is the world’s most innovative grill room and steakhouse. This steak restaurant is known for serving the best steaks in Sydney CBD. Prime Steak Restaurant has pioneered many changes for the steak restaurants industry since opening in 1999. • Prime Restaurant - The first steak restaurant in Sydney to introduce dry-aged beef to its menu in 1999 • Prime Restaurant - The first steak restaurant in Sydney to offer wagyu in 2002 • Prime Restaurant - The first steakhouse to only offer the “centre” and most consistent part of our selected premium cuts in 2004 • Prime Restaurant - The first steak restaurant…
We had lunch with a client at Prime and the service and meal was top notch. We had a table for 4 in a private dining area. We’d ordered the rib-eye on the bone which was cooked to perfection, with potato purée and broccolini for sides. The waiters were prompt, informative and kind. Will definitely return!
Fantastic restaurant with a great ambiance. The food was incredible and the service was even better.
The store manager is kind and humble, with a welcoming vibe. He pretty much picked mine and my partners meals with confidence and we loved every last bite.
The atmosphere is nice and welcoming with a elegant vibe. Great for date night !
The food was outstanding and one of the best steaks I’ve ever had, cooked to perfection.
I love how the chefs deliver the food, it shows pride in their work and I valued it a lot. Compliments to them all.
Very, very satisfied with our experience. We will definitely be back !
Prime is one of my favourite steak restaurants. I was recommended to try Prime by a friend who was a steak connoisseur, and ever since I’ve had many great dining experiences there.
The best thing about this restraunt is that you can get a really tasty and good amount of indian food in a very reasonable price. Their staff is very friendly and their diseases are mouthwatering and their sitting area is settled in the basement which makes its quite and a very good place to spend some time.
I was dining on 28 Aug with my wife. It was super grate dinner because Manager William was so nice and BEST hospitality. I never get that service before any where. So we want to say Thank you so much and see you soon. 100% We will back !
My partner and I have dined at Prime many times as it is one of his favourite restaurants. We came here again right before the end of August but unfortunately, we were told we had missed out on the truffle menu.
We ordered the mixed olives, cornichons and sourdough to start, one dozen oysters and the wagyu tartare with quail yolk, crispy shallots and toasted baguette. It was the first time we tried the wagyu tartare, we normally order the seared scallops with leek, but decided we would try something new. I didn’t enjoy the wagyu tartare that much and felt as though it lacked in flavour. Everything else as always tasted great.
For the mains, we ordered the confit duck leg Parmentier and the dry aged, rib eye (400g) with prawns and spinach on the side, and the Potato puree with truffle jus. We also ordered a few drinks to go with our meal.
The confit duck leg was a bit salty but I liked how the duck didn’t overpower the whole dish, I found it to be quite delicious. I loved how the potato puree was light and airy. The dry aged rib eye was cooked until perfection. The steaks here are incredible and for anyone who loves meat, I definitely recommend visiting Prime.
The atmosphere is pleasant and intimate, the restaurant is dimly lit and I almost felt annoying turning on my flash for my photos. Service as always is impeccable.
Our meal came to approximately $320 for two people which I found to be reasonable considering the quality of the food and the service.
super friendly staff and delicious steak had an Angus fillet medium rare, it was cooked just right. The oyster is fresh and tasty as well. Little bit noisy to talk though.
Came with my friend for my birthday, the staff Fabio is very friendly and helpful. He recommended the passion fruit desert which is amazing. The steak is very delicious, Particularly the Angus beef.
staff: polite and amazing
food: was okay for the wagyu 9+ and the sauce is amazing. would definitely comeback
vibes: good for couple and first date
Best steak in town.
The subterranean sandstone with ambient mood lighting is terrific. Discrete, stylish, intimate. The waitstaff are refined and polite.
First, freshly baked bread and glorious butter. My absolute weakness.
We choose from the very extensive wine list a lovely hermitage from the Rhone valley. It is superb.
Entrees didn’t grab me - I must not have been particularly hungry. And you do need some space for the mains.
I order an Angus 120 day aged fillet with blue cheese sauce, with a side of puréed potato. OMG. The purée is THE reason for living. So rich, smooth and buttery - magnificent.
The beef is caramelised, mouth watering and soft as a pillow. Medium rare is the go - zero blood, only loveliness. We also order a side salad, but as life is too short to eat fruit, it goes untouched. Who said blokes are stereotyped.
A couple of Macchiatos and we’re done.
I do love the salt pots.
This place would be a 5, but it can lack atmosphere. No music and on an average day, there’s little chatter. Otherwise superb.
Took my husband for his birthday, he is a steak fanatic. He walked away with a smile on his face. Steak was cooked to perfection, it took about 40 mins after ordering but that’s due to the slow cooking method they use (well worth the wait) I had the snapper and it was also really good. The fish had a bedding of a fish soup, great combination . Service was 5star!
Pata negra serrano, great Argentinian Malbec, beautiful medium rare aged rib eye, terrine, parfait, great service and location made our night memorable and indeed enjoyable, well done!
First time to visit here, with client from interstate. Excellent ambiance, we were lucky to get in as almost full at around 7.20pm. Seems booking ahead would be a good idea. The steak was fantastic and the service very friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend this place which is at basement level.
The most amazing steak I have never tried. The environment is cozy. We got a tiny soup when we are waiting for the steak. It is so warm and fantastic. I believe I will bring my family to here again!
Spent our anniversary here. I liked how each table had its own space and privacy.
Food - the most $$ steak we've had. $140 for 200g for marble score 9+ wagyu 😍 it was so tender and fatty. Highly recommend to try at least once! But that wagyu steak tartare is a MUST. One of the top steak tartare I've had!!!
Service - we had a lovely waiter named Minh. He noticed I didn't want any alcohol and offered a custom mocktail drink that was off the menu which I really appreciate. He also offered to take a photo for us, gave us a lot of attention.
Exceptional dining experience! Great casual atmosphere and environment, we also received amazing service tonight, as we were also very late to our booking, the manager did not hesitate at all to hold our table for an extra hour.
We started the night with oysters, seared scallops and also Wagyu tartare - which was AMAZING and is a must try.
For mains the girls and I each got steak, the grass fed black Angus steak filet was the most tender, then the wagyu 6+ marble and black Angus scotch was just to die for, so soft and tender and literally melts in your mouth - truffle jus to accompany your steak is a MUST!!
Overall, this has been such an amazing experience and one of the best steak I've ever tried in Sydney.
Hands down the best steakhouse! Perfectly cooked perfect cut. Make sure you order their Wagyu 9+ marbled
The highlight of my night here at Prime was the exceptional service my family received. The staff were attentive, friendly and helpful. The food was great and the meat was cooked perfectly. Despite not many vegetarian options (as you would expect), the tomato and mozzarella salad and the ratatouille of summer vegetables was delicious!
Hands down the best truffle mash potato and wagyu I've ever had in my entire life !!!
Service was friendly and efficient. Food was not pretentious and it was simply amazing.
This place sets the bench mark when it comes to steak. Been there numerous of time and never have I've been disappointed. If you're a steak lover, do not miss out on trying their aged angus steak. Yum!
The heritage listed Sandstone room beneath the GPO Grand set’s the scene for a serious steakhouse. The domed entrance is romantically lit with many awards adorning the walls to one side you feel as if you are walking into a mysterious wine cellar in Bordeaux. The New York style interior is smart and elegant and we were seated in a private room equally charming.
From the outset the service was swift and professional where everything just fell into place. The sommelier assisted with recommendations on the style of wines we leaned towards and masterfully brought out each of the four bottles from light advancing to full bodied reds as the evening progressed. The menu is extensive although not confusing with six well selected entrée’s, five non steak mains and a detailed list of sides that are interesting as you can get for sides including truffle potato puree to Brussel sprouts that sound grand.
The prices of the steaks start from $57 and for these prices you are getting the best bred cattle in the land aged to perfection with a detailed description to explain what exactly you will be getting. We opted for several Grilled Beef Fillet Tasting Plates ($120) which included three 90g fillets of Yearling, Black Angus and Wagyu 9+ full blood. Each plate ordered was to varying degrees of rareness and all were done perfectly. The sides so casually described as seasonal baby vegetables were presented nothing short of fine dining standards. The Full Blood Wagyu Marble Score 9+ $125 was the most expensive 180 grams of steak I have ever devoured but sadly, I could not distinguish the trademark buttery richness from the marbling that Wagyu is known for. In fact I looked at the steak very closely and even questioned the waiter who confirm with the chef that the fat had been rendered away through the cooking process which I still do not accept as it resembled a very good eye fillet but not Wagyu. I have had a Wagyu at Black and that was an experience to be remembered, however this was not even close. The accompanying mushroom with oregano and nut crumble however, was probably the best mushroom I have ever had so that sort of made up for it. The pepper sauce was refined and intense, another standout.
The desserts were mostly French inspired, equally as well presented and taken as seriously as the steak. The Chestnut Crème Brulee with braised chestnuts, mandarin cream, confit mandarin and small domes of meringue was very refined and had all the elements you’d expect. The prices of the desserts given the quality were in fact very well priced and very smartly priced because most people would struggle to have dessert after a full meat meal.
The service was exceptional for the evening where waiters always appeared at right moment and their knowledge was excellent for wine and food without being rehearsed. Besides another time in a French restaurant in Melbourne, this is the second time a $100 tip was warranted despite some reservations about the steak.
Walking into the the restaurant on a Saturday night with Jen, the first thing we noticed was the ambience of the restaurant – intimate and welcoming. We felt like celebrities walking into our very own secluded dining space escaping from the hustle of Sydney just outside. Unlike going to your local pub for a steak, Prime evokes an aura of elegance and professionalism – the perfect vibe for some serious steak devouring. Ushered to our booth, the room opens up with New York City inspired decor and large sandstone walls, we were feeling a million bucks! It was almost reminiscent of a scene from The Godfather, naturally I was playing the role of Al Pacino.
Date night Saturday night. Most amazing steak I've had in my life 😍 service - spectacular, wine list - spectacular. Ambience is spectacular. Very pricey but good for indulgence. Positive criticism, Steak tartare was good but nothing amazing. Butternut pumpkin soup was amazing 😍 oh their blue cheese sauce is divine! 😋 highly recommended and will definitely go back!
Fantastic service and environment. The dry aged angus rib eye is really really fabulous. And two desserts as recommended are pretty good as well.
Marinate your taste buds with one of the best steaks in Sydney! Season with the 1.5kg tomahawk, an impressive serving, cooked to perfection and so damn juicy. Continue with the flavoursome grilled barramundi fillet or another deliciously tender cut of steak (below). Finally, drizzle your taste buds with the spectacular chocolate fondant or their refreshing pina colada, leaving the biggest smiles on your way out.
A steakhouse with ambiance. Ideal for a romantic dinner or a family/friends get together. Tried a number of dishes here and from the steaks, my favourites were the 1.5kg tomahawk (delicious flavours in the beef with a good amount of deliciously charred fat) and the Châteaubriand (which again, had amazing flavour in the beef and was incredibly tender). With the desserts, definitely the chocolate fondant and the pina colada. They have an excellent selection of wines, so be sure to partake in a little red! Last but not least, the service was friendly and attentive. Loved it here.
Great steakhouse! One of the best steak places in Sydney! Great location, feels like you're in an underground vault! Which i'm told the original vault for the bank is not too far away from here. Tried some of the Waguy +9, The dry aged tomahawk steak, Chateaubriand and Barramundi. All delicious. Great layout, wonderful food and great customer service. Well worth a visit.
One of the best restaurants for steak! Their wall of awards at the front entrance proves you're in for the best quality. An intimate and relaxed atmosphere is exactly what to expect. They have a wide range on their menu with steaks of all sizes. I tried out the huge tomahawk and it was absolutely divine. It didn't even require much additional sauce since it was cooked and marinated to hit the spot. Their desserts are also amazing - loved their chocolate fondant and pina colada!
Beautiful restaurant and excellent customer service. The place looks immaculate and is is a great space for special occasions and celebrations. The menu has variety with lots of carnivorous options. I highly recommend the Tomahawk and the chateaubriand!
What a premium venue. I found out tonight that Prime was the first steakhouse in Australia, opening in 1999. The venue truly transcends you into into a cultured, fine dining experience.
The waiters are knowledgeable and swift with their service, and the meals are beyond impressive. I've never been a massive fan of steaks, however I can definitely appreciate quality steak when I taste it. The tomahawk is literally like a dinosaur bone, a must order for those dining with 2 or 3 people.
All sides perfectly compliment the hearty meals with the truffle mash being simply divine. The fish is a dish from the new menu and it definitely a must order.
The dessert range is definitely one to be shared amongst friends. They're rich, delicate, and presented impeccably. I cannot wait to come back here.
Best steakhouse I've ever been to!!
Was taken out for my birthday and I loved it, every single bit of it.
Serving size was immaculate for the price, this place is my favourite steakhouse!!
Definitely coming back !!
Well paid $250.
Amazing location, amazing venue, nothing I can hate on this place.
Great mushroom sauce, great steak and the truffle potatoes are heavenly for the tastebuds.
The goats cheese mushrooms were interesting but still extremely amazing.
Great staff, even came up with a little plate in the end with the happy birthday sign.
❤️
Let's just say: the best streak and three course meal of my life. Service impeccable. You get exactly what you pay for.
Had the steak tartare to begin and it was fresh, zingy, and perfectly seasoned. A great start to the night's proceedings.
The star of the show was the black Angus scotch which was melt in the mouth soft, with perfectly rendered fat, and a delicious accompanying truffle jus. It was exactly as a steak should be. No leaky juices. A beautiful pink on the middle. Just perfect. (The accompanying potato gratin was well cooked and subtly seasoned—not heavy at all).
To cap it off was a beautifully constructed Mont Blanc, a chocolate mousse atop a dense cake. Excellent chocolate work and a great range of flavours and textures to work through.
Prime is great and thoroughly deserves its reputation. In reality, what you pay for really isn't that much more of a premium to any other steakhouse but the difference is noticeable. If you're in search of a great dining experience, could not recommend this more highly!
... Prime is tucked away in one of the corners on the lower ground level of the historical Sydney’s GPO. It’s hard to miss it with the stacks of prestigious awards proudly presented in front of the restaurant. As we entered the restaurant, I could feel the warmness and coziness as the light was dim. The place is covered with sandstones and has a very strong New York influenced in the interior ...
Intimately tucked away in the GPO Sydney building (like at the bottom of your heart) is Prime Steak Restaurant. Dimly lit, its doors offering but a glimmer of insight into its interior, with awards adorning its sandstone walls not different to the mounted trophies of the old world showcasing its prowess, I’m intrigued and allured. Inside, the sound of jazz and the blues serenaded to my ears as we were being seated by our duteous waiter. Gracefully, the menus were handed over for us to make our selections. From the moment I laid my eyes on it, there’s no doubt that their passion is steak . Extensive yet helpful, its menu reads more like an introductory guide to beef, describing the difference between each breed, its diet, the pastures it was raised on, and the importance of marbling. An ‘ express ’ option is available for the impatient, pretentious, cashed-up philistine who’d rather catch a soulless performance than appreciate a full-bodied hunk of bovine goodness. In other words, it’s
The tomato & chorizo butter is one I have not come across before. The taste of the chorizo comes across in the aftertaste and the olfactory sense of the cream, it’s like you’ve always just eaten some actual chorizo and are savouring its after-tastes. The tomato flavour is more evident, and makes the butter kind of like a tomato-ey cream.
The dumpling kitchen had large windows to peer through while you waited. This however didn’t make for good viewing. Watching uncoordinated staff scrape away and stab with wooden spatulas at oversized mounds of raw mince doesn’t get my appetite going.
Best meal I have ever had!. December 10th, 2014. Had dinner at Prime last night with my husband, son and daughter in law. The best meal I have ever had in my life!
The scallop entree is to die for! And everything after that was perfection!
Even the desserts were amazing.
Service was exceptional. We were served by a delightful Italian waiter!
I highly recommend Prime.
Best Steak ever. Best steak I've ever tasted - I ordered the wagyu steak which melts in the mouth.
Not cheap but you dont feel you were ripped off in any way.
Quality is second to none and service is unbelievable good.
Highly recommended
Spot on... Polished, friend.... Spot on...
Polished, friendly and attentive service and amazing food and wine. The scallops with pork belly for entree was sublime and the rib eye and potato gratinee for main was some of the best I've ever had. This place is now even better than the last time I was here a few years ago.
I'm a major steak enthusiast, and it's no exaggeration to say this was the best steak I've had in Syndey. Full blood scotch med-rare, phenomenal. Atmosphere was excellent and the service was really friendly.
Be prepared to pay though. My wife and I racked up $270 including a bottle of wine, but it was worth it: my birthday present!
Prime is worth every dollar for its steak. The steak just melts in your mouth. I have been here several times for different types of steak and it has never disappointed me. Their selection of wine is really good too. Would recommend it!!!
Excellent service - delicious food - def go back :)
Fantastic Experience. Nothing is too much trouble, excellent service and food to die for,
So good it should be illegal.
8/10. Found the place a bit hard to find at first. I expected a little bit more from their menu but was happy with the steaks that we had. Amazing wine list. The Châteauneuf-du-Pape was delightful and well recommended with our meals. Staff were very knowledgeable and hospitable. I did feel that the decor was a bit old but nothing to daunting on the eyes. Will be back.
Beyond excellence. Favourite: wagyu marble 6+ scotch fillet; sauté mushroom; 07' Runholder pinot noir, nz
Great steak in the heart of Sydney, extensive wine list with great service. 5*
Great steaks. Sadly the staff count was a little low.
Some of the best steaks you will find anywhere in the world. Well worth the visit.
