Review Gelato Blue - Sydney

Rachael Martin
Such amazing vegan ice cream! Even though it is made from coconut milk, my friend who hates the taste of coconuts and coconut milk loves this place. There is a great range of flavours and the texture in each is incredible! Highly recommend coming here

Wow damn fabulous!! Everything is vegan , the selection is so huge than other ones around newtown. It’s a bit pricey but surely it worths. The staff always gives very fully cone!! Vegan ice cream ‘s heaven I love it so much!! 1 scoop for $6 2 for $8 3 for $9.5( selection is huge though))

A quaint family run establishment in Newtown. Gelato Blue had been there since the Messina invasion that saw the end of gelatomassi and ...I can't remember... the other one. One card up its sleeve is that its fully plant based. It won't beat a full fat planet destroying cow and moon pistachio but it's not bad. Its only real competition is mapo way up the road but they have a lot more flavours.
Rinaa
Honestly best vegan icecream i've tried, the sundaes especially are amazing with the most delicious vegan brownies!
George Forgan-Smith
Great gelato. Some fun flavours with the ice cream made from coconut milk. The choices are vegan. They also have a coffee stand however this wasn't open when we stopped by at 6 in the evening. Super friendly service.

You would never know that it's vegan! The flavours are so true to their listed names that you'll be blown away by the taste. So creamy. Such a silky smooth texture. You can taste two flavours before you buy and that's definitely worth taking them up on. The fruity flavours are great but the nutty flavours are better! Peanut butter and chocolate are amazing. Also, get banana split. Its exactly what you'd imagine.

I absolutely love this place. Friendly staff. There are no plastic cups or spoons. And the ice cream has a soft and creamy texture with an amazing flavour.
Kiki
Generous portion and very friendly staff, loved the great selections they have too! However every scoop we tried just tasted sugary and nothing else. :(
Nozaira Sultana
Was too busy enjoying the gelato so forgot to take photos ! Ok so me being an avid lover of all things sugar and dairy , gelato blue was a revelation!! How can sugarless chocolate vegan gelato taste sooo gooood!!!! Like howwwww????? It actually tasted better than the regular ones. Hats off to these guys for creating this & here’s to many more revisits. If vegan or sugarless makes you cringe, gives you nightmares I suggest a trip to Gelato Blue for cure ✌️✌️✌️

3.5/5 The final stop of the Sydney Vegan tour is dessert at Gelato Blue. Have you seen Part 1-3 of Sydney Vegan Tours? Gelato Blue is located nearby Newtown Station. It's often quite busy even on colder days. All the gelato flavours at Gelato Blue are vegan and are made with coconut milk. You will see shades of blue as you enter (which makes sense given the name).

Every time I go past this family-owned gelateria, it’s always busy and finally tonight I was able to pop in despite the queues. I love that all their gelatos are made with coconut milk. If there gelaterias like Gelato Blue. I am looking forward to trying other flavours and they seemed to have a wonderful variety of flavours. #gelatoblue

As they say it is a Family-owned Gelateria offering creative gelato flavours made in-house with coconut milk.

Well every word holds true about above sentence, they are pretty creative and flavourful
The staff is cordial and you get lovely and warm welcome every-time you visit them.

They have amazing collection of vegan ice-creams, perhaps a boon for lactose intolerants.I have been here many times(lost the count), and it is now sort of a ritual, that we always end-up having our dessert here post our dinners at Newtown. They have refreshing fruit flavours if you are fans of berry flavours this place is great.

Interestingly they have sugar free collection too (very limited though but you won’t be disappointed on the flavour), which is helpful, if you with someone diabetic, they can join with you and feast.

Overall experience is fun.

Final verdict:
-------------------
Ice-creams-5*
Ambience-5*
Wait-time-5*
Price-5*

Everything about this place is good. I've been there plenty of times and never been disappointed. Easily my favourite place to eat creamy stuff.

I had the salted chocolate and it was absolutely delicious. So smooth and rich without being sickly. I definitely want to go back and try the other flavours! I loved that the gelato comes in paper tubs with wooden spoons

Ice cream is DELICIOUS! Better than Messina which is less that 50m away. So many flavours for the plant based or enviro conscious person.

Staff were efficient & kind but didn’t appear happy to be working.

My family and friends said that this ice cream was better than the milk based ones they’d had.
Grace
Salted Belgium Chocolate : 😍 Amazing
Mint Chocolate : 😊 Good
Yoghurt w/ Balsamic & Strawberry : 😁 Great
Coffee Gelato : 😊 Good

There’s a wide variety of flavours to choose from here. My favourite being the Salted Belgium Chocolate (can’t go wrong with chocolate). Mint chocolate wasn’t as strong as I normally like it but still good. Yoghurt w/ Balsamic & Strawberry was definitely something different and I did quite enjoy that one. The coffee gelato was okay. It was quite mild in flavour and sweet as well. Good place to go if you wanted to try flavours but not quality.
Susan
Good service with various flavours.
The ice cream is nice and soft and flavours are quite tasty. The coffee flavour is fragrant, but a little sweet. The mint choc ice cream was nice, but the choc pieces inside were not. The chocolate doesn’t taste like good quality chocolate.
The Greek yogurt with balsamic vinegar and strawberry was weird and wonderful along with the salted Belgium chocolate.
Jen Yen
Super creamy with each bite bursting with flavour! My mother introduced this place to me and all the people that I’ve brought here never suspect that it’s vegan!

Staff are super friendly and ice cream is affordable. Definitely recommend the peanut butter brownie and chocolate hazelnut crunch.
Kristen Chan
My favourite place for dairy-free gelato in Sydney; you can barely tell there's no milk. Perfect for lactose intolerant people like me! The gelato flavours are also constantly changing so there's always something new to try
Rakelg
One of the best dairy-free ice cream places in Sydney! They have sooo many nice flavours to choose from. The consistency is also extremely creamy and thick for what most people would expect of a dairy-free ice cream. I got the pumpkin pie halloween special flavour which was so nice! It had a nice sweet aftertaste too.
Sully
Wow A Vegan Gelato. I didn't know it existed and tasted so good. This place is right close to Newtown station. Staff was very friendly and smiling. I wish they had more more flavor choice though :)
Isabella Vee
👍🏼- Great artisan plant based gelato! I’ve been on multiple occasions and have always enjoyed the flavours I’ve chosen. Their gelatos are always changing, so you’re bound to find a flavour you enjoy. The presentation is an A+. This place is definitely not for everyone, I’ve been with many vegan and non vegan friends whom either loved or hated it, you’d have to try it for yourself and see! It’s not bad by any means however it does not necessarily replicate normal ice cream. I have to say, I do appreciate the effort that goes into the business with their new ideas and the love that goes into the process of making the gelato.

👎🏻- The downfalls would be the staff , and I’d hate to be THAT person but I’m just being honest. On multiple occasions the staff have been unhelpful and cold, which definitely stands out to me.

Food: 5/5
Presentation: 5/5
Service: 3/5
Location: 3/5

The flavours I chose normally have a lot of cream and butterfat and I really noticed the difference - Gelato Blue's vegan mix has a much heavier texture with a fair bit of graininess, so it couldn't get the delicate smooth taste than I want from good gelato. Maybe the sorbets would be a better choice.
HANGRYHUNGRY
Lovely gelato place that sells vegan gelato and desserts! Prices are standard for a gelato place. The workers are friendly and they have a pretty decent range of flavours and desserts to choose from.
Muntaha Khan
Best diary free ice cream in Sydney. Still have rich flavours and delicious. It's very busy at the night though so it would be a wait. Would return for sure.
Ali Lam
Absolutely thrilled to find a gelato place that was all non-dairy!!! So over the limited sorbet options you get at other places, was excited to have the chance finally to indulge in the chocolaty, caramel, coffee flavours that I usually would avoid because of allergy reasons. Staff are very friendly. Gelato is standard gelato pricing for a place near the CBD, even if they raised the prices I would still return because places like this are very rare and everything was delicious!!!
The Miniature Life
We were actually so surprised that everything here is vegan! And so delicious too! We tried a few different flavors - including the 2 yogurt varieties, peanut butter, and tiramisu. The yogurt with berry and balsamic is a little intense with the sweet and sour notes all through the wonderfully creamy ice cream. We didn't enjoy the yogurt with salted caramel as much, but if you like a more classic flavouring, then go for this from the two. I found the peanut butter incredibly strong - a shoe in for peanut butter lovers. The tiramisu is really quite exceptional, and I loved it. At 6 dollars I think the ice cream is a little costlier than most places, but the serving size is massive - I actually couldn't finish my ice cream cone and that NEVER happens. Service here is incredibly friendly and the place has a very old school ice cream parlour vibe which is really nice. The nook does get very crowded, around the ice creams, but otherwise it's a really great place :D

The owner pays employees about $8.00/hr less than minimum wage -- legally required to pay $25.10/hr, usually pays about $17.00/hr instead. Don't support business that break the law to rip off employees.
Frankiieshungrytummy
So good this place is now fully vegan!
The ice creams were so good. Definitely one to try especially if you're vegetarian and considering going vegan.
Prices weren't too bad and service was good.
The dessert came out pretty quick and it was surprisingly quite filling!
H2FOODIE
This place is sells wonderful vegan ice-cream. As someone who is not vegan I wouldn't mind going back because the ice-cream was truly delicious. Average service and decor.
AmandaV
ABSOLUTELY LOVEE THIS PLACE! All the vegan ice cream options are to die for. They have a large variety to choose from and they're the first gelato shop dedicated to a plant-based diet. A little bit expensive but worth it 👌🏽 Highly recommend all vegans and non-vegans to try this place!
Michelle
Love how their gelato is plant based by substituting coconut instead of milk but the gelatos are way too sweet for my liking. I did find that mango was tad less sweet than others that I've tried
Neena
Love how this place is 100% plant-based! Prices are a little more expensive than other places but you do get such creamy icecream you can't find anywhere else. None of that sorbet stuff haha

Some flavours I really don't like much and some are a touch too too sweet but my favourite has to be the Expresso and the cornetto one! It's great how much ice cream they give you to test though! Definitely would recommend!! Perfect after dinner at Newtown :)
VL
Expected the gelato to be amazing because everyone was raving about in the sydney veg community but it was actually just okay, nothing really special. Sorry.
I_like_pickles
So much variety! So hard to choose! Only one tummy! The place feels so heavenly lol.
I went for the roasted pistachio and it was decadently smooth and melty-in-your-mouthy.
Athena
It's great that vegans can enjoy gelato without the fuss unlike other gelaterias. Gelato Blue is a popular place to visit after dinner or lunch around buzzing Newtown. There are all the standard flavours such as mango, coconut and chocolate plus a couple more gourmet or unique flavours. I opted for the classic vanilla bean which was okay but if I'm completely honest, I didn't love it as much as I wanted to. The flavour wasn't very pronounced and it tasted quite dull, I wish I tried either the cookies and cream or the mango which seemed to be a big hit.
Latika Sharma
Really good gelatos.
Must try the salted caramel flavour.
Really quick service ..

Definitely a must try for gelato hunters 😊😊..........
Peace2u4eva
FREAKING RIDICULOUSLY AMAZING! THE BEST GELATO EVER- THE INSANE RANGE OF FLAVOURS ARE SO CRAZY AND CREATIVE. THE TASTE IS SO CREAMY AND IT HAS PERFECT SWEETNESS TO IT. WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND- 11/10.
P.S- the 3 scoop sundae with a cone and Belgian chocolate and crushed nuts is TO DIE FOR!
Shubham Kedia
Gelato Blue was one hell of an experience. I did not notice that the ice creams here were dairy free, I randomly started tasting flavours and had the mint one first which was not made for me. I stuck to the chocolate flavour while my friend had the coconut one. Apparently all the ice creams were substituted with coconut instead of milk, which made them less creamy but more appealing. The scoop size was huge and it was just a few block away from the train station.
FoodieinChippendale
One of the best ice cream in town. I love the organic and non-milky flavours. My favourite flavours coconut and pistachio. Try them, they are really good.
Anon Customer
Loved the gelato and the staff were all super friendly!

Unfortunately one of my friends used to work here and she mentioned that she was getting paid less than $20 an hour. Under the Fast Food Industry Award 2010, the minimum wage for adult casual workers is $24.30 an hour, with increasing rates on evenings, weekends, and public holidays.

I can't in good conscience support a business that breaks the law to exploit its workers, so I won't recommend GB when there are many more ethical gelato shops in Newtown. I love that GB cares about animals and the environment, but I wish they would care about their employees too.

Again, the gelato is really good and I want GB to succeed but I'm worried that if they don't update their policies and repay their employees lost wages the ATO will shut them down.

Gelato Blue is one of the most underrated gelato in Sydney. It has neither exciting flavours like Messina nor a chic cafe interior like Cow & the Moon. Flavours at Gelato Blue are conventional but the ice-cream is fresh and less milky because they are made in-house and milk is not added.
Laiken
I've been here three times, tried four different flavours (choc hazelnut, peanut corn-ot-o, milk chocolate cookie and hokey pokey) and they can do no wrong!
The gelato is soft, sweet and very flavoursome. It's a must try!!
Hareem Ⓥ
My friend bribes me to do things by promising to buy me gelato here afterwards, so that probably says enough about how much I love this place. I'm always excited to try a new flavour each time I go. I guess the only downside would be that eating in is almost impossible; it's cramped and almost always packed. But honestly walking around Newtown on a sunny day with a cone of Gelato Blue in hand is very nice anyway.
Marika
There is "good for vegans" and purely "good".
This place checks all the boxes for perfect gelato and being vegan is just a bonus. Smooth texture, classic and new flavors and lovely staff. Why would you ever want baby calves' food in your ice cream again?
Monty Freeman
It's ok but warning it's a non dairy gelato so it doesn't quite taste right ! Not awful just not what it should be. The Turkish delight was nice with crisp chocolate bits. The hazelnut was good too, but the issue is that you get a great early flavour but the after taste is not quite right and not entirely pleasant. Not sure what problem they are trying to solve here other than appeal to the strident vegan nutters in Newtown.
Francesca Dreas
I always passed by this shop but never stopped, I was a little bit skeptical about the non dairy base for an icecream... but I was totally wrong!
I tried the pistachio flavour and it was the best that I ever had in Sydney. I didn't expect it!
Kevin Kwok
Very good, their coconut based gelato is creamy, dairy free and delicious. I had the pistachio and tiramisu which were two of the best flavours from what I tried. They also had some more exotic flavours like durian although they didn't all quite work. Gelato has a slight coconut taste which probably doesn't suit all flavours. $8 for 2 scoops is a bit steep though.
Melissa Whitwell
Amazing vegan gelato place, in such a convenient location! Keen to try more of their dessert options because they look delicious. Will be back!
Rachael Brookes
Gelato Blue takes dairy free ice-cream to a whole new level! Seriously amazing ice-cream, I am a regular customer but i've decided to review this time.
I had Pavlova and Roasted Hazelnut, the pav took me back to my childhood where we'd eat it after Christmas lunch. Unfortunately i'll be missing it this year but I've lived vicariously through this flavour. The roasted hazelnut was better than any hazelnut flavour i'd ever tasted.
My friend had Dulce de Leche and Passionfruit Cheesecake. The caramel was so amazing, a little sweet for me but I still appreciated the flavour, and the passionfruit was just brilliant.
Highly recommend to cap off an amazing dinner or to stop in on a hot day. I wouldn't even bother with other artisan gelatos, for me: Gelato Blue does it better.
Cynthia
I get butterflies thinking about Gelato Blue. I will never get sick of this place, there are something like twenty different flavours of gelato here every day, all homemade! They all taste even better than the So Delicious cashew milk ice creams, so it's my kind of heaven 🤗 my favourites are the hazelnut, green tea and pistachio ice creams 💖 the only cons would be that you can't takeaway more flavours in the containers
Doitforthefood
the coffee taste in the affogato was a bit too strong for my liking, but the lamington was nicely presented and tasted even better. convenient location near Newtown train station even though the lamington was $11.50 and the affogato was roughly $8.50 (from my memory).
Anna Banana
I came to Gelato Blue as a non-vegan and came there solely because my friend had recommended it to me. So I went there and I ordered a brownie sundae. I chose the avocado, lime and salted caramel flavour for the ice cream. The flavours in the ice cream did not work well together and did not compliment each other. Also in the brownie sundae, there was obviously a brownie and it was topped off with chocolate fudge sauce. For me, this combination was way too sweet for my liking and kind of overpowered the dish with chocolate.

The service there was great as the staff was really nice and friendly and the place felt welcoming and happy.

The price of the brownie sundae I ordered was $15! I don't get this as the price 1 scoop of ice cream costs $6 there and if you want a brownie it costs around $6. If you add those prices together you would get $12 and the brownie sundae did mainly just have those two components but cost me $15. Does this mean that the cone and the chocolate fudge sauce cost me $3!! This was really not worth it and I feel ripped off for this.
Elmocookie
Did not realise it was a vegan gelato till we entered! Had a lot of flavours with a large seating area upstairs. Fairly pricey but I guess that's the cost of using coconut milk! Gelato was good but way too sweet for our liking unfortunately.
Alexandra Brett
Gelato Blue is a great little place on King Street in Newtown that is 100% vegan. I tried the syrupwaffle and chai gelato and the choc mint gelato, both were very decadent and super creamy they can definetly rival any other gelato or ice cream you could find, it's almost hard to beleive they're vegan. Bit expensive but totally worth it, I would definetly recommend going there for dessert, maybe after going to one of King Street's many great vegan places for dinner.
Sally Moncrieff
Amazing vegan gelato! I had a scoop of pavlova flavoured gelato that tasted delicious. I couldn't get over the fact that it had little pieces of crunchy meringue in it, but it was still completely vegan.
Julie N
Yasssssssssssssss is all I can say about gelato blue. The brownie slider is my go to because they use the best vegan brownies ever and it complements every gelato option they offer. I would recommend not-ella and green tea!!
Issac_eatsalot
Not usually a big advocate of dairy free or vegan products but this gelato was actually really nice. Peanut butter, Belgian waffle and milk choc cookies were a good choice 👌
KIMMIE
This place has been making its rounds on Instagram thanks to its delicious vegan gelato and this bright dragon fruit, lime & coconut one in particular! The flavours are awesome and even though its expensive, Gelato Blue clearly take a lot of pride in their creations!
ItstartswithaC
A beautiful FULLY plant-based vegan gelato place! All the gelato' are treated with love and car you can tell. I ended up grabbing the hazelnut and taking home the Nutella and pandan flavour. I'm in love. 😍💕
Anna
All vegan gelato so already I was going in with heart shaped eyes. And I was overjoyed the gelato actually tasted amazing. They have friendly staff letting you try as much as you’d like (but I always feel bad so stop after a couple of taste tests).

We didn’t end up choosing the passionfruit cheesecake but it was really delicious. The not-ella one was nice enough with chunky choc bits, but could not beat the matcha green tea which was amazing and tasted better than any regular dairy based one.

Only a minute’s walk from Newtown station, Gelato Blue is definitely worth a visit! Just wish there were more plant based dessert stores around, or that GB would branch out to somewhere closer to home!
NaturallyTani
Not only are the staff super friendly, flavours incredibly delicious and the scoops super big but this 100% plant based ice-creamery has finally put on offer a product that is edible and catering to a range of dietary requirements. Flavours change seasonally and before you commit they let you taste test as many as you want. They also offer delicious vegan cakes which are hand made locally and cheap hot chocolates as well as chai lattes. They have a seating are up stairs which is perfect to relax in whilst enjoying your dessert! This ice creamery is suitable for everyone and anyone!
Eatwithmyfoodsafari
Had high expectations for this place after reading the reviews on here. The shop advertises as 'Sydney's Plant Based Gelato Shop'. Basically vegan gelato. The service was very friendly and offered tastings to everyone. I decided to go with a Gelato Sundae which had 3 scoops of gelato with melted Belgian chocolate, nuts and a waffle cone. The flavours I chose were Peanut Butter Corn-Not-O, Dutch Waffles With Salted Caramel & Chai, and Roasted Hazelnut. The presentation was really good. The gelato while tasting nice didn't really have as much flavour as other gelato shops like my favourite Gelatomassi down the road. This could be due to being plant based. The one with most flavour was the hazelnut one. I could also taste chai in the waffle one.
Bottomlesspit
Bang on! It's so good to have an option for vegan ice cream lovers. I'm telling you, if you brought a non vegan there, they wouldn't even know. They have such a great range of flavours. The only thing I wonder is why they don't actually advertise that it is all vegan. You wouldn't know because it doesn't really say. The staff are friendly. I will definitely be coming back here regularly.
Zoe Golding
I was overwhelmed in a good way by how much choice there was in vegan gelato that it took a while for me to order, I got the Belgium chocolate and peanut butter one YUM!!
Prices are more expensive than other gelato places but its still very reasonable for the quality of the product
Helen & Michelle
Gelato-blue is one of our number one, go-to dessert places in Newtown. We've been here several times and it has never disappointed. The service is very friendly and also fast. Really recommend the gelato bowls which were around $9.
Edit: Upon our most recent visit we ordered the brownie sundae which was $15 and it was essentially a brownie and scoop of ice-cream. The brownie, unfortunately, was not up to the usual standards of Gelato Blue and the gelato was quite average. Also, to our disappointment on all our recent visits to Gelato Blue they no longer offered their dessert sliders.
Allie
Came past as soon as I read they went all vegan and it's definitely the best vegan ice cream/gelato/sorbet I've had out. Loved it. My non vegan partner said he couldn't taste the difference at all.
Christine
Great assortment of vegan-friendly gelato flavours. Upstairs has some great additional seating to the wall-facing seats downstairs. Gelato bowls ($9) had a generous serving of ice-cream with dark chocolate, cream and nuts. The chocolate hazelnut and mango flavours were pretty good.
Getinmybelly
•Lots of indoor seating, perfect hangout on a hot day or craving that sugar rush after an epic meal
•Recently gone majority vegan orientated flavours
•Choc mint - lacking the mint punch, but just enough for the non mint lovers
•Nutella swirl - this was quite good, only thing could be better if there was more Nutella!
Nsk
Vegan desserts?! A whoooooole lot nicer than regular desserts with animal products!!! Like whoever said vegan food is gross can get stuffed!!!!! I loved this 😍 I got coconut flavour 👌🏻
_simplypeckish
Vegan desserts! Sydney needs more places like this. Many flavor choices to choose from. Satisfied with the mint gelato I had. Price were reasonable as well.
Ellen M
Absolutely incredible vegan ice cream! It is so hard to find good vegan ice cream let alone ice cream sundaes, so It was great to come in to Gelato Blue and get such awesome service as well as awesome ice cream. I ordered the Oreo ice cream with a cinnamon roll and my partner got Oreo with a chocolate brownie (all vegan). This place was great - will definitely be coming back again soon.
Mukie
A great amount of choices for vegans! From Gelatos, sorbets to raw cakes. Some of the gelato I found too sweet which takes away from the flavour. The chocolate sorbet is great, so is the choc mint. The Gelatos have the creamy consistency and is super smooth.
Staff are not all that welcoming however and could improve on customer service.
Corinne Liu
Vegan ice cream? Yes please! Gelato Blue has upped their array of vegan options, which I applaud them tremendously for. Add on the use of coconut cream as the base, amping up the creaminess without the need to use dairy. This joint serves gelato tornadoes, brownie slams, donut ice-cream, etc etc! With vegan options for all of them. Their flavours are freaking delicious, and they allow you to test try them. Below is the Nutella (dairy) one scoop in a cup for my friend ($5), and a Argentinian Caramel one scoop in a waffle cone for myself ($5). They have an upstairs too for chilling with your ice cream! Definitely recommend this place.
Eden
If you die and go to heaven, you'll find yourself at Gelato Blue. What makes place this place amazing is the variety of vegan deserts they offer. 15 gelato flavours, donuts, cakes, milkshakes, so much more. There is nowhere else that offers anything like it. 100% cruelty free. Everything tastes amazing. The cream 'n cookies and the hokey pokey are standouts. Well done to gelato blue, excellent service and the most lovely people behind the counter. Great work
Gingerandcoconut
Vegan friendly gelati - the way it should be! Just like in Italy! They recently have extended their vegan friendly gelati and added some new flavours such as dulce de leche ? We got the brownie and gelato combination, all vegan of course. Very yummy, will be back!
Shaney
Best gelato icecream i ever had, srsly Try the dark chocolate and pistacho together. The bayest. Flavours were great, especially the dark chocolate.
Belle
Best vegan desserts! The vegan ice cream actually tastes like ice cream and the vegan cakes are great too. The only problem I have is the staff have a stuck-up attitude, minus the curly haired girl who's really nice.
Sahar
This place is great and underrated. They are competing with at least 2 others on the same strip in hipsterville Newtown. Yummy, friendly, and they have an Anzac biscuit ice cream taco now?!? This is where you die and go to heaven when you've died and gone to heaven.
Navya Navvu
Best gelato ice cream ever! 😍
If you like to try out different types of food, you should visit this place more often!

Location : new town !
Samantha
Went around 6:30 at night and the Gelato Taco's and Gelato Sundae's were sold out which was disappointing so instead I opted for a 2 Scoop Gelato. I had the Fig, Hazelnut & Salted Caramel and Pavlova Ice Cream. The Fig, Hazelnut & Salted Caramel Ice Cream was not appetising to me at all and I found the flavour combination not working with the fig. The Pavlova was better but not exactly special, would've liked more meringue in the ice cream. Overall the vegan options are extensive which is impressive. I feel like I chose the wrong flavours and will come back for a second try.
Danoz Direlect
Probably the best gelato spot in Sydney. The inside looks boring and the staff look equally as boring, but dear jebus their icecream is amazing. It beats Messina and N2 anyday, minus all the funky music attracting hipsters like bees and honey. Also plenty of vegan flavour options which are surprisingly good. Highly Recommend 🇦🇺
Nicole
Best coconut gelato ever. Good price. Nice service. Always tasty, lots of good flavour choices!! Best on the Newtown strip! I have never been disappointed!!
Aneesa Shah
Absolutely amazing vegan ice cream! The range of vegan options are great and cater to a variety of people. Staff were generally friendly (especially the young man with glasses). Just wish the cannoli was vegan!
62totheworld
Been here couple months ago.its delicious but not that wow.the staff are very nice,it took me long time yo decide wht should i have but they are fine.
Brooke Fraser
Delicious vegan icecream. With a huge selection of flavours. I did not feel my normal limited self having to pick the only vegan option on the menu, oh no! Because most of the options were vegan. We had peanut butter icecream and caramelised fig. Both creamy and sweet, the perfect way to end your night.
Nora Ng–Na
While by no means cheap or good value, Gelato Blue seems to offer a wider variety of flavours compared to Gelatissimo and the customer service here seems to be a notch better at their competitors in Newtown (perhaps with exception to Cow & The Moon, but that's in Enmore, isn't it?). In terms of the ice cream, sorbet and gelato themselves, the ones we ordered seemed to taste pretty good but we can't say how they compare with other ice creameries or gelaterie.
To its credit, Gelato Blue has a groovy upper-floor seating area, where you can enjoy conversation, coffee and ice cream while looking out to King Street (though we have no idea why you would want to do that; you simply can).
On balance, we would consider coming back to Gelato Blue and could recommend this to our friends.
Fiona
Loved the place! The service was so good even at 11pm at night. I didn't feel like having dairy that late and the vegan gelatos were so so good!
Occasional Foodie
Vegan gelato. Love the selection of vegan gelato here. Keep up the good work!
Fishfood
Gelato Blue is around 5mins walk from Newtown station and has a wide variety of gelato flavours including Vegan sorbets, nutella swirl, all your desirable fruit flavours, salted caramel
House In Tillford
Gelato Blue has a large range of flavours, including some more unusual ones like sweet potato and pavlova. They also had some other tempting sweets like chocolate baklava, chocolates and waffles. But since it was gelato that bought me there, I ordered myself a scoop of white coconut and almond gelato. It was nice and wasn't too heavy, which was exactly what I needed, but my mum's hokey pokey gelato did give some order envy,as it was tastier. What I really liked about Gelato Blue was the seating area upstairs, which was a nice space to sit and eat your ice cream while you catch up with friends and family. As for flavour and price, I would say its on par with Gelatissmo (although they didn't have some of my favourite berry flavours) so if you are looking to broaden your gelato horizons, I would recommend Gelato Blue.
Kristy McCombie
Best gelato in Sydney. And no line ups :). I've been going here for years and have never once been disappointed. I've tried many others and always wished I'd just gone back to Newtown Blu instead.

The vegan options are amazing for the lactose intolerant desert lovers like myself, you can't go past the banana and after dinner mint.

If you prefer non vegan you have to try the Nutella, licorace, and Apple pie!!!!

OH AND THE NUTELLA CRONUTS... Don't try if you don't want a new addiction.
Kaitpr
Tiramisu and Salted Caramel Yogurt. Fluffy tiramisu gelato with coffee soaked sponge finger and cocoa dusting, and a salted caramel drizzle over tart greek yogurt gelato. Yum!

They say that Disneyland is the happiest place on earth....cleary they have not yet been too Gelato Blue. It is dessert heaven. Being lactose intolerant, I love the vegan selection of ice creams.

Always delicious!. Absolutely love Gelato Blue. Every flavour I have tried has been amazing, never disappointed. Massive range, lots of vegan friendly options and always experimenting with new flavours (always delicious). Whenever we have friends staying from out of town and we go out for dinner we always skip dessert at the restaurant and take them to see the lovely staff at Gelato Blue for the best gelato around and they love it. Take home packs are my guilty pleasure (but I usually eat the whole thing in one go!).

P.S. Try the Banana Pancake! *insert Homer drooling noise*

Yum!. Gelato Blue has the best gelato ever! We always stop by when we're in Newtown. The fact that they're always friendly and helpful, plus have an amazing variety of gelato is what won us over. Being lactose intolerant I love that there are always amazing vegan options to choose from that taste great. Banana pancake is a favourite of my daughter's :)

Gelato Blue-The Best of all!!!. The name already sounds refreshing, clean, pure and delicious!!
We say "Not quantity but quality!", what about when a place have both?!!! Yes, Gelato Blue has it all.
The quantity of flavors drives me nuts because I can not make my mind, so every visit I get a three scoops on a cone and a 1.5lt tube to go.
All the flavors are divine, and catered to all, vegans, non vegans, the refined boutique critics or to the conservative ones that just want the best of Chocolate or Lemon Sorbet.
And I love seeing a family business, that runs like a family. Some Greek words in between them that we know it isn't say :-), some great smiles across the counter from the father and/or Fotini(the daughter) making the gelatos, her mother serving gold to the clients and love expressed through the gelatos!!!
See you there tomorrow
Danilo Santana David

Where do I even start... It doesn't get any better than Gelato Blue.
As you walk in you are hit by the most amazing smell and greeted by the loveliest staff members. They have everything from cakes and coffee, to hand made chocolates, freshly roasted nuts, warm waffles and of course a huge range of Gelato and Sorbet.
They are often coming up with wonderful new flavours and always cater to your dietry needs. Whether it be gluten free, vegan or nut free.
As someone that does not eat dairy it is so wonderful to walk into a store with such a huge range of exciting dairy free options.
I can never say no to the Vegan Roche. Yum.

This place is ok and their ice cream has a fine taste.
it seem to be their catching up with the ice cream place around is a bit behind.
not so many choice and topping for their ice cream.
but when you want a decent ice cream and have a good taste.. this place is.

A disappointing wait. I spotted this place in March, but only just made the excuse to try what looked like amazing gelato. Being lactose intolerant, I was really impressed by the wide range of sorbets, opting for the pear and cinnamon and peanut butter and chocolate. At $7 for two small scoops, this place isn't cheap. And unfortunately, the sorbet was icy (as if repeatedly re-frozen) and quite bland. The extent of the peanut butter was a few frozen hunks of cheap salty smooth peanut-butter. The Gelatissimo chocolate sorbet is ten times better. So disappointing.

Just go there and you'll be alright.. Forget Messina! They're rubbish compared to Gelato blue!
