From the moment we went there we felt welcomed. Got a table outside within few mins. Asked for a baby chair it was set up immediately. The staff we very friendly and our baby boy also got on well with the staff. Great breakfast menu, good prices. The order was taken promptly. Great coffee to start with. The food was great quality and yum. Mushroom on toast with grilled tomatoes n crushed avacados. Also ordered a yummy milkshake. Not just the food, the ambience is perfect by the rocks. Ideal place to have brekky between harbour and the rocks. Well done guys we will come back and recommend everyone to try!
We have been to Sydney many times as we are from Melbourne and I would highly recommend this cafe we had breakfast here which was delicious plenty on plate for what you pay and the most important too was the staff were amazingly freindly and greeted you very nicely I would highly recommend it and go back again when in Sydney
On Sunday evening we were searching for somewhere serving Gnocchi in The Rocks and came upon this place. Although it was the first place we came upon we were won over by the friendly, personable waitress. We were not disappointed and we both reckon it was the best Gnocchi we've ever had, best service too.
We'll be back. Apparently the Soups are great as well.
The best pancakes I have eaten in a VERY long time. Service was fast and polite. Great location to sit and watch Sydney pass you by over breakfast or lunch.
Service was great, staff very friendly and food was spot on, would definitely recommend!

Delicious breakfast.....eggs benny was spot on and the blueberry pancakes with mascarpone was out of this world. Definitely worth a visit for breakfast!
Amazing menu! I had a late breakfast, I’m vegetarian and (for a change) there was plenty for me to choose from. The food and coffee were prepared nicely and served with a smile by attentive and patient staff. Tiny niggle is the garnish sprig was a little tired, makes you wonder if it was the day before’s leftovers, shame because everything else was perfect. Thank you!
The food, coffee, desserts and service all excellent. A must do when in The Rocks
Lovely staff and yummy food and the portions are really good too.
Love this cafe ..friendly staff and always good food
Delicious food in lovely surroundings with great friendly staff.
Soup of the Day: 😍 Amazing
Steak Sandwich : 😁 Great
Omelette : 😁 Great
Coffee : 😍 Amazing
Great cafe with an awesome old school vibe. Service was great and food was fantastic. The Soup of the Day was a potato, pea and basil soup. It was absolutely delicious and perfect to have on a rainy day. The omelette was also good. It had the saltiness from the ham and a slight sweetness from the tomatoes which paired well with the toasted bread. The steak Sandwich was really good too. The steak wasn’t chewy and the bread was nice and rustic. The chips on the side were super crispy that no one could resist but have one. Coffee was strong and creamy. Would definitely come again.
I had crocodile burgers for the first time in my life. Easy to eat, taste like chicken. Good experience.
We were seated upstairs and it was great. Service was excellent. Food was very good. The vegetarian burger was fab. Fettuccine bolognese was excellent. Upstairs was quiet and pleasant. Good value.
I ate brunch here on a recent trip to Sydney. Both the food and service were excellent and I thought the value was good. I ate outside. It is an attractive neighborhood of stores. My only advice is if you're going to eat outside, make sure you sit under an umbrella. It was hot the day I was there.
This place holds a special place in my heart for personal reasons, it is cute like a button and has comfortable booths you can snug in for hours with a beautiful Italian coffee and lovely retro feel. I love the cakes there, particularly the lemon meringue tart which is storeys high (who can say no to this ! ). A bit on the pricey side but open till late in charming surroundings.
The Rocks Cafe is an amazing combination of Amazing Italian food, friendly staff and reasonably priced Comfort food at a great location. Just do what the street from the Opera House, there is outside seating. We had the Fish & Chips, King prawn & chorizo risotto, Napolitano Spaghetti and Chicken & Mushrooms with spaghetti. Every dish was delicious and so fresh.
We had the cheesecake of the day with a serve of vanilla ice cream and 3 home made lemon and mint iced tea. Highly recommend the tea as it was really refreshing. The vanilla ice cream was rich in texture and was packed with vanilla beans which was visible. The cheesecake itself was nice, creamy and smooth but it was a bit too eggy for my liking. Although it is pricy, ~$35 for small portions, it was worth it due to the great customer service, location and ambience.
Great food, well prepared and served with a friendly smile from our waitress. A welcome change from the overpriced Sydney restaurants providing mediocre food.
Whilst visiting from interstate we dined here on Saturday morning for breakfast before heading to The Rocks market. I enjoyed the ham & cheese croissant and hubby enjoyed avocado on toast. Both meals were tasty and our female server was very friendly and welcoming. We sat outside which was nice. A great little place for breakfast.
Great experience from what I've had. My female server was an absolute delight, she was extremely open and friendly which made me feel very welcomed. The cakes are lovely, go for the tiramisu. LOVE the Homemade lemon&mint ice tea, do recommend that.
Excellent. Very attentive and courteous staff who not only look after you but know their menu and happy to assist in choice. Very enjoyable experience and food top grade. A must visit when in the rocks
Nestled in the heart of the Rocks this place caters for all appetites, from a coffee and cake to a full meal. We have been on three occasions now and have never been disappointed, the range of desserts is a standout. Recommended
Tried the kangaroo Burger here! Came with chips as well but for the price, wasn't too worth it. At least I got try try kangaroo while in Australia though! However the service is great and is situated near the Harbour area!
Been there a few times! It's a nice place for an outing... I actually had an incident... The glass that I was drinking in turned out to be faulty... And when I told the manager he changed it right away and got me another drink... Really friendly staff and their food is really good...
I came here following a lead from last year's Sydney Aroma Festival booklet that mentioned The Rocks Café use signature, premium coffee beans. They were also finalists in last years' event so I had to give them a shot. I must say the coffee was amazing, it's been a long time since I've had a strong Piccolo Latte that wasn't over-extracted, bitter, lukewarm or using last week's stale beans. I rated this coffee amongst my all-time top 10, bear in mind this includes the heavy weights such as the one I had at the Piazza San Marco in Venice. Anyway, back to The Rocks Café, I also decided to try their delicious Apple Crumble which that was filled with fresh crunchy apples and the exact mix of cinnamon. My partner also had a skim latte (which is rather difficult to ensure it remains creamy) and a Blueberry Cheesecake, again, well done.
Great desserts and coffee! I came here with a group of around 12 people, we were desperate for some post-dinner dessert and despite its small capacity, the staff were incredibly welcoming and accommodating.
Enjoyed this place! Great staff and service. Went out of there way to be accommodating. Weather was dicey, and they said we could sit outside and they would move us in if it rained, which they did. Had the kangaroo burger which was tasty, and my fiance had the all day breakie, which was great! The desserts were all on display in a case by the door and looked amazing, so we had some.... Excellent blueberry cheesecake! Yes, a bit pricey, but we expected that.
Having breakfast here before a work function up the road. A nice change from the regular haunts in Potts Point / Elizabeth Bay.
The two wait staff were professional and welcoming.
I do not mind the traffic and noise when sitting outside - being in the shade is more important as i like the breeze and the cool - but that may not to be eveyones taste.
I was a little surprised at the costs....more than what I am used to paying for a coffee and eggs royale (on the menu as Salmon Benedict).
But an early breakfast at The Rocks was an enjoyable experience.
Cosy atmosphere and efficient, friendly service. The food was tasty. We had fish and chips and the gnocchi (which was very flavoursome!). There is a wonderful selection of desserts including a banoffee pie which is to die for. Glad we came here for dinner. If you can't decide on a place to eat when visiting The Rocks come here.
Love this little cafe which is built in a Heritage site ! They've preserved it so well and they've maintained the decor to give you the old world charm feel ! We had the beef which was nice , soft and tender . It was topped off with a hat of pastry which was nice and flaky with a good crunch ! My better half had the pasta which he enjoyed ! Plussssss amazing service ! Very kind and patient waitress ! Thank you! ❤️
This is a sweet little cafe in the touristy THE ROCKS area with a street seating option . I had dinner last night here with my colleague and enjoyed every moment spent there . service was efficient and friendly . good vegetarian options for people like me . With Paroni beer , for starters I ordered cold eggplant ( roasted ) sprinkled with nuts and bread strips nd well presented . it was delicious . for main course I ordered Home Made Gnocchi. it was good but not great . We gave a pass to dessert. With excellent Sydney weather to enjoy , street seating just added to the pleasure . reminded me of Europe. Go for this place - you will enjoy ....
This is a perfect little place to stop by for a dessert and coffee in the afternoon. The cakes in the window have always been enticing so we stopped by to take a break from sight-seeing in the Rocks. I shared a Chocolate Meringue slice and had an iced long black. The Chocolate Meringue was pretty good, although may have looked better than it tasted. Great presentation, great ambiance, and great service. The quality may need a bit of improvement. I have not had the chance to try the entrees so I may have to stop by again to form an opinion.
For a quick brekky before meeting a friend, I decided to drop by The Rocks Cafe, which is located, surprisingly, in The Rocks! As I walked down George Street, the friendly Sydney sunshine was creating a lovely atmosphere, and I sat in the outdoor seating full of excitement and hope. For breakfast, I ordered the Bacon & Eggs, which consisted of scrambled eggs, bacon, grilled tomato and toast, alongside an extra side of avocado. Overall, I was very impressed with the meal – the bacon was amazing, the avocado tasted fresh and the grilled tomato was incredibly tasty! The standout for me however was the toast, which complemented the meal as a whole quite spectacularly and left me wanting so much more. The quantity was also very solid and filling which is an important concern for the most important meal of the day. My only complaint was that the scrambled eggs tasted somewhat flavourless, and not up to the standard of the rest of the meal.
Came here this afternoon for some space after feeling very sick. Parked myself in the corner and ordered a large black coffee.
Very happy to see they use Campos! One of my favorites! It was made perfectly with a thin layer of froth on the top 👌
Came during their lunch rush so it was quite busy but service was quick and staff very friendly.
I will definitely come back to try the food next time.
Have to give this 4 stars for the amazing home made lemon meringue pies they serve here. Have never seen such a huge meringue ever not even on my Grandmas efforts! Was just wow & tasted divine
Loved it. The cakes were delicious. My family and I ordered a lemon meringue pie, Oreo cake, blueberry cheesecake and a chocolate mud cake. They were so good and quite large sizes so we shared four desserts between five people. The waiters were very friendly and managed to take our orders quickly. Would definitely go back there again. It was a bit too expensive but we found everything in Sydney expensive.
The Rocks Café is at 99 George Street, The Rocks. It's a nice mix of ancient and modern with its brown leather-upholstered booths and retro gold and green paintwork; there's a splendid collection of cakes, including an eye-catching, bountiful lemon mering
...A bowl of toasted oats, mixed nuts and seeds arrived a few minutes later. Topped with strawberries, the toasted granola was crunchy with a hint of maple syrup
After walking all the streets around the The Rocks on Monday 29 Dec looking for some place to eat, it was a relief to find an outside table at this casual eatery. We tried at least 12 places prior as a "walk in" with no luck. It's not fine dining with pubs in the area offering better quality, but the waitresses where very nice & attentative, the manager always making sure we were looked after and the way some places around the area charge, it was well priced.
Really attractive looking desserts by the shop front. Tried the crumble and it was good but really pricey for what it is. Was there for dinner. Had the pork belly and fish & chips which were both really good. Service took a while but it was generally a nice experience.
Fantastic eggs benedict. Will be back.
Great service and food - good price too! Got in here late Sunday just before closing and they we're cool about putting some much needed food on the table and were very friendly to boot!
Oreo Cake!. We were wandering home from the rocks market last night and saw the luscious desserts on display. Despite being very busy on a Friday night, the service was great! We shared a delicious chocolately piece of oreo cake (the crust was oreo) the filling was chocolate smooth and rich torte. Our cappuccinos were very delicious as well. We definitely recommend for dessert and coffee!
Hands down best coffee I've had in Sydney, been several times..
Good food and pretty okay service. Was quite happy/slightly confused that the waitress seemed to know more about what was supposed to be in the big breakfast, as opposed to the chef itself. BUT highly overpriced.
Fantastic service in a friendly environment. Food great and coffee tasty. Good selection of cakes. A pleasurable break from the rocks markets on a Sunday.
Great Coffee, Average Food. Up until now i have been searching for a late night cafe serving a decent coffee and I finally found one. When I took a seat, I wasn't really expecting much. There's nothing special about the design, the atmosphere or the food, but the buzz of George street on a Friday night and the coffee more than compensated.
Serving a Vittoria roast was initially a turn off, but I was pleasantly surprised when I tasted my first coffee. My Latte was smooth, full-flavoured and consistent from my first sip till my last. The aroma was comforting, milk and grind were just right. I enjoyed it so much I felt the need to thank their barista.
This definitely has to be the best late night coffee I have ever had. I highly recommend trying this place out.
We had the Salmon Benedict and the Zuccini and Corn fritters. The service and coffees were brilliant. It is a lovely cozy cafe with a lovely section upstairs. The fritters were amazing. The salmon Benedict was good. It is great value for money. I will be back.
Great for breakfast. Great coffee and granola for breakfast
Simple tasty brekkies, ok coffee, a little pricey, a bit of a wait on food, but very helpful staff.
Great food great service. I went there on NYE and was able to see a bit of fireworks from my window seat upstairs. This is certainly worth of the $3.5 service charge.
After nearly 40 min wait for my tiramisu, I was disappointed to hear they forgot to get it from Guylian and when they went there it was already closed. So I ordered a chocolate meringue instead. It turned out to be so yummy that I even thought it would probably be better than tiramisu. Chai latte is fantastic also.
I was very happy with the food. But I was even more amazed when the manager decided not to charge us on the cake because he thought it's their fault that we didn't get what we originally wanted. But honestly we don't mind at all and we are so happy with the chocolate cake.
What a great experience! Now this is my No. 1 choice everytime I go to the Rocks.
My favourite café experiences tend to involve weekend brunch. I love café breakfasts and I especially enjoy stuffing my face knowing that most people in the room are also relishing their day out of the rat race. When I walk into a café the first two things that hit me are the smell (of fresh coffee and whatever deliciousness might be going on in the kitchen), and the atmosphere. If a café is too quiet it can be a little disconcerting, but of course you don't want it to be so busy that you can't find a seat or that your order takes its sweet time getting to your table.
That's one of the great things about The Rocks café, it's always packed with people but I've never been stranded without a table, and no matter how busy it gets they're always quick to deliver my coffee and my meal. As a bonus the staff are polite and friendly, the food options are varied and delicious, and they are quick to clear the table after you've finished eating.
Late night favourite. Always brisk service, great coffee and breakfast in the morning. If busy, kitchen stays open late, so good for dinner when the others are closed.
Friendly atmosphere, speedy service and quality food. The gnocci was to die for! Can't wait for dessert. 8/10
Was after a late breakfast and this place serves breakfast until 11:30am. With a 4.4 star rating it was worth a visit to sample their breakfast burger and banana bread.
Totally lived up to the reputation and only draw back was the waiter took 15 minutes to take my order as he went to another table that arrived after me but an apology was given.
Nice atmosphere and great food. I like the layout and design.
We were there about 9am on Sunday. It was almost full.
The food tasted great but slightly small portion.
The rocks cafe is a nice eatery along a busy part of George st.
There are a few seating options to choose from depending on availability. The outside area is nice, but make sure you get a table underneath an umbrella if it is a sunny day. The other dining areas are inside on the main floor, and upstairs. The upstairs area is much more quiet than on the street level and is a good place to enjoy your meal if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of George st.
The food is good. I go for the steak sandwich with caramalised onion. While the food is delicious and presented well, the portion size is a little on the small side considering the cost.
The servers are friendly and provide no frills, efficient service.
Great location, beautiful coffee, average to decent food, surrounded by great atmosphere. Always love the rocks and its beautiful culture. Awesome Christmas decorations for everyone to explore once you are done with your breakfast/lunch. Staff are friendly and when sitting outside make sure you pick a table under the umbrella as it can get quite hot under the sun. Recommended for all.
The Rocks Cafe, Constructed in 1867. Crispy Pastry Chicken Pie with Chips.
Fusion of European and Modern Australian cuisine, using the freshest local produce. Love the deco, nice and cosy cafe! Coffee not so great.
One of the few places that we kept coming back to for breakfast while we were in Sydney, as their food was just soo good!
On our first visit, we ordered the following:
- Grilled Halloumi (Grilled halloumi cheese, soft poached eggs, roasted tomato, harissa, rocket leaves served with grilled za’atar bread).
- Salmon Royale (Soft poached eggs, wilted spinach, baby capers, Tasmanian smoked salmon & hollandaise sauce on Sourdough).
Both were perfectly cooked, served quickly and in the right temperate.
I highly recommend it.
Been here a few times for breakfast now, the food and service has been great both times so we’ll definitely be back again.
