Review The Rusty Rabbit - Sydney

Trey Saunders
Good food in a nice atmosphere tucked away in a Darlinghurst side street. Visited on a Sunday during peak brunch time. There was a bit of a crowd out the front waiting for takeaway orders and for tables. When I visited, a very efficient staff member took my name and added me to the waiting list, which wasn't too long. He took our coffee order as well so we got to have that while waiting. Food and drink menus are a double sided, laminated sheet and there is a good variety of food to choose from. Our service was quick and efficient, though I did notice that the table next to us had to flag a waitperson down to have their order taken and then had to flag someone down again as a side dish was missing. Food was good quality and decent portion. I ordered the "Feeling Rusty" dish. Not sure that I liked the beans being served in a single use disposable cup however. Overall, a good brunch spot off the main drag of Darlinghurst. Worth a visit.

Great vibe, nice and bright, friendly staff, good coffee, snappy service. Lots of nice stuff on the menu and really reasonably priced breakfast food. The brekkie burger was wonderful. Speedy WiFi to top it off.

If you want to come to a cafe full of charm and character, this is it! I love the concept and comic-inspired art driving Rusty Rabbit; the menus are colourful and quirky, the food is delicious and the coffees hot and artistic. I enjoyed the breakfast wrap (swapped out bacon for halloumi), and my company enjoyed the pancakes with a side of bacon, and the smashed avo. There was an incredible buzz in the cafe. My favourite part of the entire experience was my coffee with the latte art (pictured!) ☕️🍳🖤🥞🐇

Been coming here for years - food and service are amazing. Staff take pride in what they do and this evident from the moment you sit down. Highly recommended.

The Rusty Rabbit is up there as one of my favourite cafes. What immediately stands out is the unique personality of the brand. It’s playful, fun, approachable, just like all the staff. Many of the same faces have worked there for years. The food is just as tasty as it is quirky and I can never resist a cheeky hash brown.

Stopped in for coffee. Friendly barista and excellent coffee. The iced latte with almond milk was primo, great flavour and blended well 👍 super cute place across the road from the National Arts School

Cute little cafe - welcoming ambience, great service and very yummy pancakes. Coffee was made with passion - crowded on a Sunday mid morning. It didn’t get my 5-star because they use plastic straws.
CURIous Wombats
The pancake was pretty nice and I had a nice mug to drink a matcha latte out of. The rest of the menu looked decent with a selection of burgers and breakfast goodies

This cafe is the Bomb! I love this little upbeat funky cafe. Honestly they make one of the best coffees in Sydney city and their brunch is to die for. I live locally and it's definitely my fav coffee. Also the staff are always so friendly and bubbly and up for a chat while also Providing good customer service even when it's flat out. It's a funky, chilled cafe you can go to when your in need for your morning caffeine fix or even treat yourself while studying and great to invite your friends or gf/bf for a breakie/lunch or coffee date. If you haven't been definitely worth your time. So drop in when you have a chance because it won't disappoint! :)

We only found out about this place as a recommendation on FB so went there this morning for breakfast. Helpful staff, had a great breakfast. Now we know why it comes so well reviewed. Would definitely return if we get back to Sydney on our next holiday to Oz.

Omg the energy at this place is unbelievable. The owner who kind of looks like young Jesus brings his own sense of quirkiness and enthusiasm to an already vibing cafe. Try the pancakes. But beware they’re huge. More cake than pancake. You will need extra maple...
Norma Derbas
My GO TO coffee shop. Not only is the coffee amazing they make delicious food. Never disappoint. Love it.

Just had an impromptu breakfast at Rusty Rabbit, Darlinghurst. Friendly staff, great atmosphere and tasty food. Enjoyed it so much I even bought a t shirt!
Nectarios Livisianos
Great coffee. One of the tastiest Eggs Benedict I’ve had and the service was faultless. Hope my tip went to all the hard working staff.

So the food is great but takes awhile to come. But in the end it's all worth it. Very beautiful presentation and great staff!

Just had a cup of tea but staff friendly and there were a lot of people having food and eats. Can only be a good sign if there are lots of customers 👍😊

Great food, excellent coffee and even better , i had just picked up a friend from the airport and we had a few hours to kill until she got her connecting flight and they were more than happy to let us sit in the corner and catch up, it was mid week and a rainy day so therefore no one chasing our table

In my travels I get to try a lot of local cafes around Australia, today I think I found one of my all time favourites, the Rusty Rabbit. How good is this, the food, the coffee, the service, the atmos, sensational. Next time in Sydney do yourself a favour and go here, you will not be disappointed.

Fabulous food ,fun staff and a great atmosphere. A favourite of mine and that's something with the choice of cafes in the area.

I love The Rusty Rabbit. The staff are the friendliest in Sydney. Their food and drinks are always tasty. I always feel very welcome here. Thanks boys

Relaxing, wholesome and rustic feel, that's how I would describe the restaurant. Staff were super friendly and would recommend to dine in this cafe.

A quaint, rustic cafe located on a street corner in Darlinghurst. The Rusty Rabbit is perfect for afternoon brunch or a cup of coffee in the relaxing and warm family atmosphere. Although the interior isn't much from the outside, the food presentation and taste itself speaks otherwise.

🍽 DISHES SAMPLED
⭕️ GINGER NINJA | The presentation of this dish was amazing despite it essentially being salmon on toast. I could really taste the ginger seasoning, however the dish in some sections went overboard on the honey sesame. This unfortunately overpowered the taste of salmon, avocado and feta and upset the balance of flavour.

⭕️ CHEESECAKE PANCAKE | This dessert is a must try if you ever stop by The Rusty Rabbit. The pancake texture was so incredibly fluffy and the presentation was immaculate just as advertised. It literally felt like I was tasting a cheesecake in the form of a pancake (a perfect match for the name!) and the serving was surprisingly generous and filling. The maple syrup, blueberries and strawberries really complimented the pancake batter and I really couldn't fault the dish overall.

Instagram: @sydneyfoodreviewer

What a creative, cute and delicious cafe to come to. Their eggs benedict was so nicely presented with the sauce carefully placed instead of usually just poured over random. Their green juice was fresh and refreshing.

The key thing with Rusty Rabbit is that it's reliable, I'll always take guests from out of town here as they're impressed with the food styling, the atmosphere, and the friendliness of the staff

When I first ordered the Corny Melon Cornfritters, i automatically fell in love with it!!! The watermelon made the whole dish so refreshing! And the poached eggs was cooked to perfection!! Definitely would come back to this cafe again 😋😋😋
Food Baaraati
They have huge varieties of coffee shakes snacks anything you want at not so high prices you can visit the place if you are looking for any of these the staff is really friendly and supportive

Couldn't fault my visit to The Rusty Rabbit. Good service the moment I walked into the cafe. The smashed avo dish was fresh and tasty. Coffee was perfect! Will be visiting very often now

Arrived to the Rusty Rabbit one Saturday when on the F45 8 Week Challenge & still enjoyed the meal. It was good to know they partnered up with Woolloomooloo so the dishes could be trusted. I missed out on a piccolo though... had to opt for the green tea.
Wanderlust
Excellent flat white. Food was very good and fresh with good portion. Outside alfresco seating was lovely, relaxing, and corner unit of street. Service was perfect, super friendly. Only complaint is the price was a little pricey. We will definitely come back!!
C
Food was great accompanied by good coffee. We all had a savoury dish plus a drink but did not walk out feeling heavily bloated which was fantastic. Staff were very friendly.
The Next Rush
Hollandaise sauce, I think, is the single greatest thing a poached egg and smoked salmon can aspire to, yet the path to perfection is fraught with danger for the cook. Hollandaise isn't particularly difficult to make, like its steak-friendly cousin béarnaise, it's really just a hot egg and butter sauce. BUT it's all about getting that oozing sauce at the right thickness without making the yolk proteins curdle into solid curd coagulates!
Narutard
Came here on a sunny Saturday and only have nice things to say - quirky superhero themed menus that I absolutely loved. Super chill and relaxed vibe and the staff are lovely and friendly. Flat white slightly too bitter and the pancakes looked amazing, just a bit too sweet for one person so grab a mate to share!
Feri Phang
the food looked great and was tasty - the pancacks were really thick and plenty of fruit and sauce - the pumpkin and avo mash was flavoursome and must be had with poached eggs and bacon - nice friendly staff

This place deserves some attention, always nice to see a cafe baby pop up from the hard work and dedication of its makers; rusty rabbit is just that. Love has been put into all aspects, from menu selection to a sweet fitout, and I honestly think they’ve got the nail on the head. Will be back 👍🏼

Great ambience, really good coffee, best pancakes in the district
and amazingly quick and friendly service. I can understand why this cafe is so full of happy customers whenever i visit.

Very rude wait staff that do not know how to manage turning over a table and seating people. We are patient people who have no problem waiting but when you combine rudeness with pretentiousness and make people deliberately wait when there are several tables available, I have to take my time and money elsewhere. Sydney has far better cafes.
Sydneyfrenchfoodie
This restaurant is located near my work so I went there several time already. It is quite hard to get a table so do not forget to book if you are more than 4. But the staff is very nice and make the waiting time more fun and they are very efficient and polite so that's perfect.
I tried their chai latte with was really good and not to sweet as often. Their juice are amazing, perfect to start the day with energy.
About the food I tried the pancakes with ricotta and fruits and they are really tasty and soft. And it is quite a big serving which is something I like !
I also tried their salads, the grilled chicken wit lentils and the roasted pumpkin, both were very good, they know how to do good seasoning but not too oily and with fresh products.
And I even tryed their cinnamon roll and their little nutella donut and I love them too!
I just have to say that it is a lovely place with tasty food !!
Sarah
Solid serving of smashed avo if you're in need of a hangover feed! This cafe is in amongst everything so sit inside if you're after a good chat.

Great breakfast and coffee. The rusty rabbit is an awesome cafe tucked away in Darlinghurst. It's always pumping on the weekends and generally takes a bit to get a seat.

The coffee is strong and creamy. The avocado on toast is quite standard. Overall, it's a great cafe with nice decor.

Rusty Rabbit..
The name is so cheeky .
Well we had breakfast on Sunday and not disappointed at all.
Place was very rusticity decor, and look different from usual coffee shop.
I did ordered "magic coffee" which was Ristretto, double size of caffeine wakes me up right away.
For food we did share couple of dishes.
Pancake came in large portion. Enjoy this dish so much.
Salmon Tartain also good, fresh and very enjoyable.
And also you can see lots of cute super hero figurine all over the wall behind coffee machine and some in display.
Liz
The decorations and atmosphere are lovely, and the presentation of the food was top notch! Tantalising as well, and the workers were very friendly!

Cool spot that was super busy on a Friday lunchtime. Friendly staff that seemed to be loving what they do. Food was great - smashed pumpkin w ago and poached eggs is a solid dish. Good vibe and great coffee

I went here for an easy weekday lunch and it was thriving with customers. The lovely waiter directed me to a table, gave me a menu and took my coffee order. I like that they offer breakfast foods all day and lunch options too. I was so keen for pancakes but trying to stay healthy so I got the chicken breast with brown rice, spinach and broccoli topped with sweet potato. Very healthy and nicely cooked. Could have done with a little more seasoning. They do a good chai latte too. A high rating because the man serving had extremely good customer service.

Since I tried their burwood location last year, my husband, son and I came to Darlinghurst for lunch. Staff are friendly and happily moved us to a table once there was one free as we were sitting on a bench near the window which was not ideal for my toddler.

Interesting menus inside comic books and lots of merchandise for sale displayed in the store. My so had scrambled eggs with raisin bread and I had their corn fritters with their cinnamon chai latte (50c more expensive than their chai latte) which was nice but its chai with more cinnamon sprinkled on top.

The only negative was the long wait for my husbands lamb bowl which we followed up on twice and they realised that they didn’t enter it in the system and the food took a while to come out. Other than that they had some interesting food items and I don’t mind coming back again.

Loved this place. Super busy on weekends so would recommend making a booking. Highly recommend the pancakes and lamb eggs. The coffee was great too and despite being busy the service was excellent.

Vibrant place in Darlinghurst, quite full on Saturday lunchtime. Definitely a great option for breakfast / brunch. I had the eggs benedict, which were tasty, while my partner ordered the brekky which happened to be average. Perhaps a bit overpriced. Friendly staff & excellent coffee though. We will probably give it another try soon.

Been here when it was Dov, then Forbes and Burton... now it's the Rusty Rabbit. Coffee is great, service really good. Talked into sharing (?) the Ricotta Pancakes by the food possie!! Watched as she devoured them with delight....we were supposed to share..... the bit I had was not bad at all.
Keep On Eating
So glad this gem opened up in Burwood in the newly developed residential/eatery side of Burwood plaza (Emerald Plaza). Ordered "Southern Fried Chicken Burger", "Green Eggs and Ham" (swap ham to bacon) and 2 refreshing, freshly made juices. The chicken filling in the burger was very generous and different to other chicken burgers, where it was not overpowered by breadding. As well, you can't go wrong with bacon/eggs/avocado on toast! The café definitely accomadates for anyone, with staff being attentive and friendly. The meal was overall satisfying, will definitely be back again!

The RR is a very cosy brunch cafe that offers a wide array of dishes at affordable prices.

I ordered the muesli fruit bowl which was only $12. It was very delicious and the plating was so elegant. It was even topped with edible flowers!

Staff were also very friendly and assisted me continually throughout my meal which was really awesome.

Highly recommended.

Funky marvel comics Western anime vibe going on at this hip Darlinghurst Cafe slash brunch joint. Good coffee plus I quite enjoyed the smashed avo on linseed toast with Danish feta - great clean flavours executed well on the plate. Green eggs and ham also tasty - playing off a similar theme. Excited to go back and try out some more of the menu.

Great coffee, yummy and tasty food and very attentive and friendly staff. The breakfast wraps were cheap and delicious! Will definitely come back

Food tasted fresh! The mushrooms, tomato, spinach, and all the bacon and eggs etc! Staff super friendly and they definitely add a cheerful vibe to this brunch eatery - food isn't the only thing that makes you smile here. I had the breakfast wrap and it was a great wrap for something not toooooo heavy. I had it with bbq sauce and definitely recommend this for $10 - bargain! Nothing special about it though. The big breakfast was a decent size. The bacon was crispy, mushrooms so tasty and soft, spinach was yummy but the scrambled eggs a little dry! Orange juice was fresh so that is always a plus, watermelonade is the perfect sour quencher so a hot summers day, and their coffee will definitely do the job on a lazy Sunday morning. I'd like to see more milky and soft eggs, choice of egg style in the wrap, and to remove spinach from the wrap and replace with anything else!

The cafe at the corner of Forbes and Burton has gone through a lot. I remember it when I first arrived in Sydney as the popular DOVe cafe, which then headed over to open up an equally popular location in Potts Point. Then it became Forbes & Burton. I am sure that I had coffee and a few lunches here. But the story goes that the Chinese owner wouldn’t hire a black barista, and after that broke, no one would go there. Karma?
Kevin Lodge
Nice vibe and others food was tasty but I ordered the nicoise after they confirmed it was fresh tuna - was fresh out of a can and nothing special. Why did they even say that?

I've been here before on tips to Sydney. Always reliably good! Chilled place to pass through or stay a while. Today was perfect . . had to share it
Best ever "morning muesli"!
Great coffee
Great staff.
#humpdaystarted :-)

The Rusty Rabbit is packed every Saturday and Sunday, and it easy to see why. The cafe looks terrific, and the staff are always so bubbly. There's nothing special about the menu but it's overprice ($17 for a simple salad is a bit much).
The coffee is good, and I'll definitely be back because the staff are so friendly.

Found this cute little cafe after a trip to the Black Eye Gallery just down the road. We ordered the lime milkshake, the smashed pumpkin on quinoa toast with feta, spinach, cherry tomatoes and balsamic (a special), and the smashed avo on toast with feta, tomato and olives. Both dishes were great, although the serving size could have been a bit bigger considering the price paid. The milkshake was good, but to be honest, I was expecting it to be a bit tastier. It was kind of bland.

The service staff were really friendly and welcoming. However, the food (and the milkshake) actually took a while to come out considering it was just toast.

In saying that, the decor is cute and the atmosphere was buzzing!

I had an amazing brunch here today with a friend. We received the best customer service I've had in a long time. The staff were super friendly, helpful and attentive without being over the top. I had the smashed avo and feta on toast and it was delightful! Perfect portion size and simple yet delicious. Super cozy atmosphere, delicious food, reasonable prices and the lovely smiling staff really made our experience and we will definitely be coming back and introducing it to other friends.

Ding ding ding. Chewsday cheeseburger time and I thought I'd give @therustyrabbit a go in Darlinghurst 🐰

Double Cheeseburger: double beef, lettuce, tomato, american mustard, cheddar cheese, dill pickle on a milk bun PLUS I added bacon (it comes with chippies) 🍔🍟

What a treat. I love a cafe that does a decent burger. Beef was lean - could use a little more fat - but the balance of the burger was good! Its a big double too. 170g patties easy! If you're in Darlinghurst or nearby give em a try 👊

It's winter in Sydney now, but I just found a place which make me feel in the summer time (except the wind outside the cafe, lol). In the intersection of Forbes street and Burton street you will find a cafe with a wink rabbit as logo, called The Rusty Rabbit. It located in Darlinghurst, Sydney near St Vincent's hospital. I always pass this place whenever I take a bus to Paddington from CBD and this place really caught my attention. I like the industrial and vintage look in the interior of the cafe and lucky me I got the perfect table near the window. The Rusty Rabbit serves all day breakfast and lunch (lunch will serve start 11.30 am)

The coffee used to be good when the brothers were making it. Now every time there is a different guy behind the coffee machine who makes it either boiling or lukewarm and most of the time can't even taste the coffee because it's too milky! Very disappointed considering how good the coffee used to be!

I wrote the same comment on one of their posts on Instagram twice and each time they deleted my comment and at the end removed me from their followers which I find very disrespectful. Obviously they just want to hear how awesome they are and can't take criticism!
Dom
Food is great! The owners and staff are always very hospitable, however the staff need to stop addressing customers as darling and hun! Especially when the customer is obviously older than the staff member! Very condescending. Apart from that great place!
Baz Juan Pablo Sanchez
The lads down at this establishment are more than welcoming, the atmosphere is always vibrant and people are smiling.

It helps when the food is good and priced well. Location is nestled amongst the back streets which makes this place a nice one to relax to

The staff were very friendly and the food was really good! We have to go back to try other things on the menu. It's in a great location, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street and the interior has been done up really nicely. A must visit!
Will
Friendly vibe, nice setting and great service. Went in when it was quite busy, but were seated quickly. Ordered the corn fritter with smashed Avo and Salmon - hnggg. Taste was amazing, avo smash was fresh and the texture of the fritters was splendid. Great spot for a Sunday brunch 👍
CoffeeSnob
One of our favourite cafes in the eastern suburbs. Contemporary, funky .... And lots of friendly personality. Jamesray, Joshua and Jiam are the three young owners and they run a great place and have an excellent team. The coffee is excellent (an absolute must) the food is great and we feel right at home. That's why we, like many others have become regulars. Well done guys!!!
Foodandfiction
Cute and quirky! Such a nice animated environment with a basic but well executed menu. The rustic concept is awesome - and collaborates well with the food. Juices are too good!
JemM
Descent coffee but that's where it ends- very limited breakfast menu and a huge wait for food. I usually don't mind waiting if i can see the restaurant is under the pump ( it was a Sunday after all), but the staff were pretty rude when I politely asked if there was a problem with my order after waiting nearly an hr. Such a good location- shame.
Liz_PottsPoint
Go Elsewhere. Tried this place for breakfast recently - will not be going back! Our food took forever to come out - at least 30 minutes just for the 2 of us, and the place wasn't that busy. When the meal finally came out not only were the eggs really runny (I'd requested twice for them to be cooked through), the corn fritter was so undercooked it was still batter on the inside. My partner's $18 meal was fine, but small for the price. I heard the diners next to us also complaining to a waiter that their servings were really small for how expensive it was. This place has potential, but the chef needs to get better if they're to compete with other decent cafes in the area. Until then, don't waste your time.
Ms_trouble_
Great spot. My friends and I decided to try the rusty rabbit and I ordered the egg Benedict. I love it. Food was good service was better. I'll definitely go back. Coffee was great as well.

Dreadful. I was keen to try this place when it reopened as "Rusty Rabbit" under new management. But little did I know what I was in for.
My friend and I went in for breakfast recently. Initially I was surprised by the lack of choices on the menu, but I settled on the Eggs Benedict. We waited what seemed like forever for the food! I asked the wait staff what the problem was and they said they only had one chef on that morning. Just a tip: If that happens, it's best to advise your customers that food's taking longer than expected. But the wait staff kept seating more and more people who grew angry at the situation. The people on either side of us were getting pretty p*ssed off too. After almost an hour our food arrived which was pretty much inedible. The sauce on the Eggs Benedict was revolting, served atop some cheap white bread. My friends breakfast was the same, bacon that looked like cardboard!
We were pretty over it by this stage, so we went in to pay for our overpriced food. I was waiting for the guy on the till to ask how everything was as I wanted to let him know. But alas, he couldn't care less, just grabbed the money.
As we walked out, we noticed the owner sitting with his friends/family having a great time, not quite realising that his cafe was falling apart around him.
This cafe is a serious avoid!

Amazing. While visiting a client in Surry Hills we decide to have breakfast and a coffee at the new place in town after hearing so much about it. The place is beautifully fitted out and the staff are very friendly and passionate. The coffee was perfect just what I needed to start my day and I had the Rusty's Benedict which is to die for. highly recommend this place.

Great!. Super friendly chaps, beautiful sandstone building, cute herb veggie fruit boxes, I love the art atmosphere, they have an ongoing silent auction supporting local artists! Food was great! Eggs benedict for $11.50! Yum. Highly recommend.

SUCCESS. Out and about on a sunny Sunday morning, I found myself in the backstreets of darlinghurst(as we all do...on occasion!). Dehydrated, hungry and in desperate need if a coffee, the doors to The Rusty Rabbit beckoned like the Gates of Heaven!

Come in, said the boys. Sit down, said the boys. Let us get you a coffee, said the boys. WRITE A FAKE REVIEW they said.Feeling obedient, I did as I was told and wrote the most inflated piece of utter crap that I could. Water appeared on the table, coffee order taken immediately and a menu presented. Heaven!!! Its like every other cafe that ive been to but im still amazed they can do these basic things so effortlessly! Who are these illuminati of coffee
I order a Long black and piccolo! It was perfect!!!!! the long black was 110 degrees.. Straight from the tea spout (just how i like it, i wont be able to taste breakfast now! Success!) its rich aroma of caustic soda and burnt beans filled my heart with lust for the piccolo to come. I activate my ESP and it glides to my table, how did they know it would take me 25 minutes to finish my seminal cup of lava. So clever! As if sipping pure ambrosia, the taste of the pic instantly transports me to a suburban westfield in 1997 where id binge on Michelle's patisserie and other fine coffee establishments with club in the name.
Verdict: Success!!! Deliciousness all round! Happy days!
Walked out of the Rusty Rabbit, a little better equipped to deal with the day!
What a great place!!!

Oh and they also hired that black guy...
