Review Satang Thai Takeway - Sydney

Kim Nguy
This is our first time back at this Thai restaurant for a while. This is a small Thai takeaway place in Chinatown catered mainly for students. The quality of the food seems to have dropped slightly and seem to have very little meat in the dishes.

Paid $12.90 for Ginger Chicken stir fry. Was a decent size meal. Not a fan of the baby corn vegetable but overall the meal was ok.

Walked pass today and grabbed pad Siew. Their always packed so it is good to be able to sit down and eat. Food is what U expected homely and hearty. The pad Siew is 12$

Great place to eat and takeaway Thai food. The food here are delicious and ngl huge in portion. Staff is very friendly and the price is kinda cheaper than most restaurants.

Best Thai food we've had outside Thailand. Run by Thai owners for many years and our go to for Thai food when in town!

I’ve heard so much about this place and I’ve been meaning to try it for ages. I definitely wasn’t disappointed. I’m still shocked by the value. Both of the dishes we ordered were big enough for two, and for only $12 each! The food itself was superb and the staff was so sweet. We ordered takeaway and it was ready quickly. This is my new go-to spot for Thai takeaway!

Very medicore food, wanted to charge me 0.50c for a small slice of lemon when it should be included in the meal. Not much chicken just heaps of rice. Very dry. Very rude. Do not recommend.

Best chicken Pad Thai I've had in years ! Large portions! Fresh and nice customer service. Well done

Ordered a meal before anyone let me know that they are closed.
If you are closed then you can't serve anyone whether it's dine in or takeaway.
I paid and then they wouldn't let me sit down as they said they are closed, but the point is why the hell did you take my order if you are closed.
Asked for a refund and I got it.
But I am still upset on how unprofessional the staffs are.
They shouldn't have taken any order if they are closed.

I had Spicy Fried Rice takeaway! And I totally love the flavours!!! Their food have wholesome flavours! So drop by, and order something! I guaranteed you that your tastebuds will be asking for more!

Even though they recently increased price by 2 dollars, the portions are still huge for the price and I can only eat maybe half of it. I like their pad kee mao, but I think their pad thai is a bit on the sweet side. It is definitely value for money, however their take away containers are more expensive than most other places. The space can also be very stuffy and crowded, as it is often very busy.
Culinary Artist
Value for money, that’s for sure.
Drunken noodles or well known as Pad Kee Mao, well might be nit as authentic as the original dish, however for sure it yummy.
$9.90 with chicken or you are paying extra for seafood.
This dish can easily share for 2 people or might just finished your self if you are hungry. 😁

The attitude of the staff was terrible and the staff even tried to make unreasonable extra charge. Definitely would not recommend this place to anyone. Would never come to such terrible restaurant again.
Grace
As a huge fan of thai cuisine, Literally they made the best pad thai I’ve ever had! Perfect garnish-and-noodle ratio!

My go to Thai place, especially as a student.
Delicious, affordable and large portions. So large that I feel guilty for not finishing it, and I normally decent appetite. If I was to nitpick at the place, it would be limited number of chairs and space to eat, and that its cash only. But it doesn't stop me from coming back! :)

Tiny place that's always busy. Visited on a Sunday afternoon it wasn't as busy as the weekdays but still continously buzzing with customers. The food is total value for money. The portion size is generous. The food quality is good the place is neat and tidy what more can one ask for!
Pad Thai here is fab. The red curry rice was okay. The chicken in basil and chillies was a lil too dryish.. But good on flavours.. Overall it's good for the price u pay..
Mandy
Pad thai is okay. I also ordered beef noodle soup. The soup has no flavour but msg. I would recommend to eat here if you want quick cheap meals.
Aimee.
I love coming here for a quick Thai meal. I love the classic pad Thai with chicken because the noodles are thick and chewy and the dish is full of flavour.

Wow! The portion is absolutely huge! Ordered the prawn pad Thai, and couldn't finish it! The taste was great as well. The fish ball noodles soup was delicious too and neither had msg, for sure because I didn't feel thirsty afterwards. Great choice!
Porkbelly
Affordable and amazing! Very large serving portions. Sadly they don’t have many seating areas but that’s because they specialise in takeaway. Overall one of the best Thai restaurants I have been to in terms of food quality.

Do yourself a favour and go eat there. Fast food hot wok sweet spicy tangy...everything you can ask from Thai cuisine. They recently renovated too more seats inside for higher turnover and less waiting time.

I have been to Satang Thai in Chinatown many times. The taste is beautiful, the portion is very big and very consistent. It is very authentic. Definitely will come here again. Very recommended place for you who like Thai food.

Love this place for the amazing Thai food they offer. This outlet is similar to the original one but popular for takeaway. They also have dine-in option though the seating is very limited.
The curries and the spicy fried rice are my favorite dishes. Very budget friendly with some excellent service.

The place is relatively small but was packed with customers when I was there. Just walking distance from Central station. I ordered their tofu pad see ew for take away. It was generously portioned and tasted okay.
Satang Thai take away is a great and cheap place to eat.It has a dining area restaurant just opposite, in case you want to dine in. Try the chili jam Chicken fried rice.
Everything on the menu is good.

The best Thai food in town.....food is fresh, staff are always smiling, there a lot of places for Thai food in Sydney city area but their food is just amazing.....cheers
Leon
A simple Thai takeaway opposite UTS in Chinatown, Satang Thai offers probably one of the cheapest and most affordable food you can get in Sydney.

My typical Spicy Fried Rice ($8.50) is extremely value for money because I cannot finish them. However, the fried rice could taste better if every grain is distinct and separate. No complaints at $8.50 though.
Grace
Not bad at all. Staffs are friendly, the food made really quick and delicious. Kinda good restaurant when you have no money but wanted something to eat! 👍🏻
Jin
The food is quite good especially considering its price. I haven't tried many Thai restaurants but this one is not bad at all. Fried rice is full of sauce and the portion is big.

'Good quick option for on-the-go thai dish' Taste: We ordered the Pad See Ew (Vegetarian - Tofu/Veggies). Good noodle to veggie ratio, however the taste was lacking. We added a chilli sauce because the noodles didn't hold too much flavour. Cheaper tofu used.
Cost: $8.50
Time: 3 mins. (As soon as we ordered it got delivered to us) Not peak time (5pm)

Penang Chicken........Worst meal ever! and I mean WORST MEAL EVER! There was no chicken - there were pieces of offal. And there was nothing 'Penang" about it...it was more a red curry. What a fraud !

Avoid by all means !

Doesn't even deserve half a star.
Pam
My absolute favourite affordable Thai place in all of Sydney. $8.5 for chicken pad see ew (with no vegetables). The portion is so large, that I have to half one portion with a friend every time i go. Once I tried to eat a portion by myself and I was too sickly full 🤓😭 Overall good place for hungry students.
Ellylovestoeat
For such a tight place they know how to make an authentic Thai meal. Only seats around 12 people but most people are happy to wait for what I must say is amazing Thai food. And also the prices are very good. Stop by when in Chinatown. So worth it, will be back!! YUM

When you eat a macaroni with too much pepper seed it's really worst taste dude!
I hope the chef can do better
Please think before you re put the pepper seed inside.
Thanks

I have dined at the newer Satang Thai which is literally across the road.

Ordered the pork pad see ew. I think they went a bit too heavy on the sweet sou sauce, it was doused it in & had an almost bitter/salty flavour to it. Not really pleasant to eat.

I would rather get it from the newer place, if your dining in it is more nicer & I think the food is better there even with takeaway, plus they do lunch specials for some dishes under $10.

Only came here as my friend said it was good & cheaper but it isn't.
FoodieYim
This is the "go-to" takeaway Thai in China Town. All of their dishes are freshly cooked by order. It gets a bit busier during lunch and dinner time, but generally they are pretty quick in getting their dish on the plate or ready for takeout. The food is tend to be a little sweet, but tasty enough to keep me going back for cheap and quality, also big portion of food!
RBkN
Been there so many times after work to pick up dinner or just dine in there at one of the small tables. Value for money is great! Taste is good too and the menu offers lots of choices too. Overall it is a very successful little thai place for such a small space.

The only criticism though is both the taste and quantity of even the same dish are quite inconsistent coming from different cooks... On a good day it tastes like rating of 4 and u get a full box/ plate of food... On some other days the taste is so average and the quantity is skimpy...out of 10 times we were let down three or four times. Takeaway owner - if u r reading this, pls do something abt it!! Coz once we had our routine basil and chilli stir fry and were so disappointed with it we didnt go back for months!

I remember being the broke Uni kid, scouting Chinatown and the CBD for cheap and interesting places to eat at during my (+2 hour) breaks. Years gone by and I can't seem to shake off my old habits.

Satang Thai is a simple restaurant to satisfy lunch time cravings.
The menu is basic with Thai influenced stir fry's and noodles- catered for most palettes, but not so authentic.
Service is fast and friendly- definitely a go to place for a casual lunch or during your break.
Poorval Dhotre
One of the best thai food takeaway options in Chinatown. The green curry is particularly good and you can't go wrong with any of the fried rice at this place. Even though the name suggests otherwise, there is a dine-in option available. However, just one cramped table is not going to give the best dining experience.

I stopped by here before trying the Satang exclusive! Its super small and compact but the staff are friendly and get your order out fast! I spent about $10 and got a huge portion of food! If Satang exclusive looks packed and you need a quick eat just cross the road and visit this sister store!

If you have ever been a student in Sydney, I am sure you must have been here atleast once. Please note this is a cash only place. The food is prepared fresh in a tiny kitchen. If you are lucky, you might get a place to sit inside. Every time I have been there, I have had to sit outside on the road and gobble up the super delicious pad thai, chilli basil noodle and stir fried chicken with cashew. They used to be open late into the night. Recommended only for take aways.

There's only 10 seats here, so people prefer to take away their orders. Although their service is average, their foods are tasty. Especially try their Tom yum soup, you won't regret it.

I've walked past this place many times enroute to other things but never tried it. Tried it today - should have come here earlier. Great little hole in the wall. Generous servings, great value for money, and delicious Thai food- wait staff really friendly too!

Where do you go if your craving Thai food late at night? Satang Thai takeaway which was open at 930pm. Could only order take away because of the time but I didn't mind as I was starving and was going to eat out anyways. And at $8.50 to get a chicken pad Thai who am I to complain for a quick and cheap meal, obviously the atmosphere and setting isn't as good as the satang Thai exclusive but if you want quick food on the go then this is the place to go as it has a smaller menu of the satang Thai exclusive but still recommended to go and eat.
Amelia
Literally a hole in the wall Thai place that doesn't look like much from the outside, but the food is fantastic. I came here on my lunch break and ordered a pad see ew with chicken for around $8, and it came out within 5 minutes. That toasty noodle flavour was spot on. Such speedy service and cheap, delicious Thai - perfect for lunch breaks!

I thought it's just a takeaway shop but actually
can eat in but not many seats. I had chicken pad thai $8.5 and it was yummy.
It's always busy and the shop is cleaned.
The serving was quite large so I brought some back. ($0.5 for the box)
Defs come back.!

Farah Huq
This feels like a family run Thai restaurant tucked in the heart of the city of Sydney. Even though the shop is congested and you hear the clatter of the pans in the kitchen, the ambience makes it very authentic. And did i mention the food is super cheap? For $8.5 you get so much food that it can literally serve 2 people. Tried their chicken pad thai and beef fried rice heaps of times and i was not disappointed a single time.

I stumbled accidentally upon this restaurant but I'm very glad I did.

One of the best Pad Thai's I've had (and I've had a few).

Service was very fast and I liked the modern interior as it was unusual for a cheap and cheerful restaurant.
CK
This was inedible rubbish. The food was so filled with msg overload that I couldn't eat more than 2 mouthfuls. Avoid at all costs! Their sit down restaurant across the road is packed maybe this has hope!

Aside from the issue with getting our order taken, it pretty much rocked! And it’s cheap. Awesome.

Beef balls with noodle soup: There wasn't as much flavouring in this dish as some of their other dishes but it wasn't bad. I wasn't too fond of the garlic but I did enjoy my meal =)

There’s this one dish at Satang Thai I urge you to have instantly. Gai sam rod Deep fried chicken breasts strips, err on the dry side but makes up for it being in a sweet and fishy sauce. Pineapple, red capsicums and cashews are a mouth-watering combination and so comforting. The portion is excellent and I’ve had this dish 3 times now, probably should try other ones but I cannot get past how good it is. Ash has ordered this dish without me a couple of times and he’s reported on how the chicken is hit-and-miss, that it was chewy and not irresistibly crunchy like other times.

Satang Thai is the closest Thai restaurant to our university so we often come here for lunch. The setup is a bit interesting as there are two restaurants with the same name (really just the same restaurant) across the road from each other, one seems to specialise in takeaway, the other dine in.
Irene
I love Satang Thai's food. I love the pad thai and the chicken laksa. And they are not expensive either. So far, Satang Thai's pad thai is the best pad thai I've ever eaten. Pad thai is thin rice noodles stir fried with special sweet sauce, egg, and you preferred meat, served with piles of crushed peanuts, bean sprouts, and a wedge of lemon. I'd love the pad thai too be a little bit less sweet, but it is already great anyway.

Not so good. My chicken curry meal was served near frozen in centre. Obviously just heated in microwave and not prepared fresh. Not sure how this restaurant has such a high like score.
They reheated it and returned same meal. No applogy. Seemed normal to them.

Nice food, busy atmoshpere, and great service.... Dropped in on a busy week night for some takeaway... fast and very helpful service, great Chilli Calamari with rice. Note - cash only.

Yum!. Amazing food,great value!

Simply delicious. Went here with a mate the other day around lunch time and boy was it busy! The wait time was not that long though and the waitress gave excellent service. The food came out within 5-10mins which was surprisingly fast considering the amount of people dining in. I ordered the Chicken Pad Peanut sauce. The food itself was plenty in quantity, I'm a big eater and had trouble finishing the whole dish. The food was nice, chicken was cooked well and the sauce was yum! Overall, very cheap yet beautifully cooked food and very large portions. Definitely recommend those who are are on a budget and are in for some nice thai food! :D

Been coming here for close to a decade. Big portions, tasty stir fries. Generally very quick.

Can never go wrong with Satang Thai. Fresh, authentic and cheap food, place is always packed! The food is so delicious that the squishy ambience doesn't matter
Jim
Not quite liking their customer service, take ages to notice someone wanting to order, overall, 2 out of 5

Quick, authentic and delicious hawker style Thai food!!
Marlo Gardiner
Was cheap easy and would recommend to others. Trying to order can be a bit cramped but that doesn't subtract from the food. 8/10

Fried rice basil chicken is my favourite. Pad Thai is not that great.
Ben 001
Pad Thai was too sweet and drunky noodles were too salty....meh

Very popular spot delivers good, fast, and fresh-flavoured Thai. A second location opened just across the street with more indoor seating and the same quality food
