Really nice decor and awesome cowboy vibes and music.
The bartenders here are awesome - super friendly and easy to talk to, and always up to make you the perfect drink. I love their freshly squeezed apple juice mixer. Interior is super cool with awesome vibes.
A place with a friendly and professional staff and a beautiful ambience.
The services are really really great and the variety in food is extraordinary.
Welcome to the Wild West! You wouldn’t think twice about bumping into a Texan cowboy in this much-loved, American-themed, underground drinking den.
Fronted by another unmarked alleyway door, once inside you’ll need to adjust your eyes to the low light and amount of taxidermy. Hopefully you don’t mind drinking your specialty whiskey or craft beer with a Texan longhorn bull head looming over you. You also probably need to like country and western music to feel at home here.
Dark and kitsch decor with stuffed animals from the Americas. After my eyes adjusted and we found a table, I have to admit that the style of this hidden gem of a bar really began to grow on me. The music (was there music?) was not noticeable enough to detract from the conversation and it was reasonably easy to order from the bar. There's a drink there where they take fresh apples and mix it into some kind of cider right in front of you for $10. That was definitely my favorite drink of the evening. Though the other drinks were a light pour. We had about four drinks each that evening and didn't even feel a light buzz, and a couple of the drinks just tasted bad. But other than the couple unpalatable drinks on the menu, the place is pretty cool and I might go there again.
Very hidden entrance, it is as if you were back to 16th century(?) america once you enter the place.
It has live country music and a generally cool vibe.
Got the Junglebird cocktail and shady pines whisky on the rocks. The cocktail is nice and has a tang of bitter. Shame it wasn’t made from scratch. The whisky was smooth and easy to drink.
The music was very pleasant and the reason why I giving it a 5 star :)
If it wasn’t for a friend who led us to this bar, there is no way I would have found it myself. But following his lead, we followed him down the stairs to a new world!
Cool interior with friendly service and free peanuts to have with your drinks. Definitely check it out!
I had been advised to visit the saloon upon visiting Sydney by a few friends. When I was walking down the street, I actually walked past the entry, guarded by a lone security guard. Unsure what to expect, I went down the stairs and I was transferred to another dimension. This was a world of its own, it felt like something out of westworld. Dimly lit, lots of seating options and whiskey almost by the barrel, I loved it. The band was playing some country classics and were absolutely pumping the harmonica. So nice to hear something completely different to music we are subjected to on commercial radio. If you only have one drink here you must have the fresh apple and spiced rum. Juiced literally as you rode its so tasty and fresh. I wish I could visit here more often.
This place is so well hidden that I struggled to find it, then as I was walking in, realised I had actually been here before ages ago! Doesn't mean it doesn't get any business though. There was never a quiet moment and the place was buzzing with people the whole time.
The wait for drinks was quite lengthy, mainly because the bartender took his time, like reaaaally took his time just cruising along. I suppose it comes with the vibe of the place, as everybody is quite chill and relaxed.
Wasn't too bad of a place to chat actually. You didn't have to shout too much. And the drinks were quite pleasant. Worth checking out.
Good luck finding this place cause it took me a good 10min of walking up and down the street! But it's well worth it when you do. I love the way this bar takes all of the amazing elements of the wild west of America.
They offer free peanuts which we nibbled on and I ordered a mojito which was damn good, the service was really quick and lovely. I highly recommend this place for a nice drink after a long week.
Hadn't heard about this place until going with a group of girlfriends and we were all incredibly impressed. Cool vibe, decor on point with the theme even through to the bathrooms. Free peanuts are a great touch and plenty of room for groups! We arrived about 5pm and it was quickly filled. Cocktails are expensive but you're paying for the experience. Would recommend
This place is great for escaping the bustle of Oxford st, with a cool Canadian type of vibe that makes you forget you're only 5 minutes from Sydney's CBD! I'm still not sure if that yak on the wall is legit taxidermy or fake! Looks great either way!
One of my favourite bars in Sydney. Always a great time! Great vibe and fantastic interiors. Staff are fun and make amazing espresso martinis but the Whisky Apple is definitely my favourite!
The most fun you can have with peanuts and beer. This is a good bar when you feel like kicking up your heels and being a bit raucous. Infectiously cheerful staff and crowd.
Stumbled across this place while staying in Surrey Hills. Ended up parked at the bar till close. Eclectic Americana. Whiskey and fresh apple juice was local favourite. Bar staff and patrons really friendly. Highly recommend.
Probably my favorite bar in the city and not because I'm American. Great country/speak easy feel with a killer playlist (just gets pretty loud). Love that they serve peanuts on the bar. Also always better to drink beer with an 800lb moose hanging over your head.
Love this place! The decor is warm and inviting, the staff friendly and they give you free peanuts- what's not to love! The beers aren't the cheapest but you rarely find craft beer under $10 anyway. This place fills up quickly so get here before 7 if you want a good spot
Aaron Forte and Jason Scott sure know how to make a good bar – they are not only the brains behind Shady Pines Saloon, but also The Baxter Inn and Frankie’s Pizza.
256 Crown St Shop 4, not that that address means much. Shady Pines; even if you know where it is, is hard to find; somedays, there’s nobody out front and you can’t even tell where it is. Most times however, its the presence of the big hulking bouncer and/or queues that will reveal where the entrance is. It is a black door painted in that laneway. Once you enter, Shady Pines is a themed small bar/speak easy. The joint has a western themed with animals everywhere and a buckeroo hillbilly sensibility. Quite fun. The back counterbehind the mixologists is a shelf filled with taxidermied animals and the most amazingly comprehensive selection of booze. Like stars in the sky – speaking of stars, yup, they love their fairy lights here too stuffed animals, fishes on the walls. some sort of grapefruit cocktail. Bitter and refreshing. Good. saloonesque aesthetics. Chairs. timber panelling. lights. Its a western themed smallbar. Tom collins. Maraschino cherry/ OJ / Whiskey. Good. American flag. T
Once the door is opened, it's like stepping onto a Texas movie set with animal heads peering from the walls, mismatching furniture, beer, bowls of raw peanuts and loud bursts of laughter
Luckily, there's a place that will keep you warm, dry and cool. We arrive at the dodgy laneway just off Oxford St and out of the misty rain we see a bulked up guy standing next to a seriously scratched out door, yep that's it, welcome
As soon as the door swings open, we're greeted by a pioneer-style bar with crazy stuff everywhere. I love bars like this! There's carved American Indians around the room, the stuffed heads of animals, and other random bits and pieces everywhere. There's
Imagine a bar called Shady Pines Saloon. What would it look like? Well I wouldn’t be surprised if the Shady Pines of your imagination comes close to the real thing. We’re talking a sub-terranean space with lots of wood and candle light.
Very much an ‘it’ place at the moment, head early on Friday or Saturday nights to join the cool kids at Shady Pines Saloon.
At Shady Pines Saloon, we were greeted by steers. This place is an amazing slice of Texas situated in central-ish Sydney. We ordered a House Special, before we wrapped up our night:
10/10. Cannot rate this place highly enough. It's like stepping into a western in the middle of the city! A cosy basement bar with all the cowboy trimmings- moose heads on the walls, oak panelling, empty liqueur bottles lining the shelves, and a soundtrack to match! What a great concept.
Simple yet clever cocktail menu, extensive craft beer range and surprisingly tasty wine list, with friendly, helpful staff to guide you through should you need a hand. You can tell these guys enjoy working here and the whole atmosphere is light and relaxed!
Near impossible to find, our friends stumbled upon this place by accident and subsequently told us to meet them there. We wandered up and down dark alleyways for about half an hour, staring confused at Google maps which indicated we were actually inside the bar. Eventually we found a small and unassuming doorway with some stairs, and from there it was like stepping into the TARDIS and going back in time to the wild west. I can find no fault in Shady Pines! If you only visit one bar in Sydney, head to this one.
Hidden gem. Great hidden bar! Awesome theme and ambience. Love its dark, mysterious feel! Drinks are good and staff were efficient, but it did take a while to get a drink. Get in early to secure a seat- its a great bar for a chilled out Saturday night if you can get a seat early.
Amazing decor, menu, staff & vibe!! A must for anyone looking for an interesting place for a drink. One of Sydney's best secrets
Could walk past this place without realising it was there. Cool theme, found the bar staff friendly, really liked the drink, but way too overcrowded. Struggled to order with people sitting and standing around the bar, and struggled to find somewhere to stand without being in the way, and there were only two of us. I still reccomend the place, and i'll go there again but definetly not on a Saturday night.
Love this bar! Great bar staff with extensive knowledge. It's better earlier in the week when it's less packed, but the vibe when it is packed is nice as well. My fave drinks are: old pal and vodka fresh apple
My friends and I had a great night until the bar called last drinks and a glassy with a Jimi Hendrix tattoo spit drinks all over me and two of my colleagues. He then wiped the table, covering five of us in dirty liquid and peanut shells. Extremely disappointed with an otherwise great night.
Awesom looking setting. They really got into the american style, gotta like it tho... Excellent bar service. Tables always clean. It's good that they keep the place not too crowded but it's not the right bar to have s conversation...
Yee ha!. If its late... try their Apple juice & Bourban (and until my SP night i didnt like bourban).
A really quirky American Western bar! Great intimate place with great staff and drinks menu. Get there early to avoid the queue! A little hard to find on the alley....but thats part of the experience
