I had heard many good things about Madame Shanghai and I was eager to try so we went on Tuesday night and we were not disappointed. The service is excellent, we ordered a bottle of wine from Santorini which was superb. The food was excellent and the highlight was the soft shell crab (pictured). The dish comes with fluffy toasted white bread (pictured) which you dip into the spicy tomato sauce from the soft shell crab dish. Highly recommended! #madameshanghai
Great ambience and excellent customer service. Terrace great to sit and enjoy a wine. Scallop dumplings were delicious.
We enjoyed a Sunday lunch reservation on a beautiful, sunny winter day. The setting and decor are really lovely. Service was attentive. Food was very good. The general crowd favourite for our group was the soft shell crab.
Great & friendly service immediately on entering. Lovely decor and pleasant location. The dumplings are my favourite dish, but everything is incredibly tasty and delicious! Definitely some great options for vegetarians here.
Fantastic food and good service. Dumplings were juicy and fragrant, grilled meats were tender and the marination superb. I really enjoyed the Great Imperial cocktail as well.
Will be back - Classbento.com.au is running a workshop where you can learn to draw some of the dishes here in watercolour (before devouring them), which should be heaps of fun
Amazing atmosphere and design inside. Didn't stop taking photos!
Modern fusion Cantonese menu, great wine list. Definitely recommend the calamari, short ribs and the Riesling by the glass. Service was lovely and knowledgeable in helping me order with a dairy & egg allergy. It would have been great to have this marked in their menu. They had a great vegan dessert option (the coconut yuzu cake)
Metered parking is in the side streets.
It's a great restaurant. Every dish is very special. It tastes very delicious and delicious, and the environment is very suitable for dating. On the whole, it's very satisfactory.
My first impression was the room WOW stunning. Service great. Food amazing have recommended it a few times everyone was impressed like me. Can’t wait to go again.
To start with, Madame Shanghai is simply a very beautiful space to dine in. Gorgeous lighting and decor, I did feel transported elsewhere. Neither of us could decide what to choose so went with the chef’s choice… Each dish was tasty and interesting and consistently good. We started out with cocktails, and these definitely have a twist here with inventive Asian ingredients and themes, and moved on to a tasty glass of wine.

Continuing with the birthday adventures from last month…S, DS and I checked out MADAME SHANGHAI for my second birthday dinner. The address says it’s in Darlinghurst, but really it’s on the edge of Hyde Park so that’s pretty much the city to me. The restaurant is opened by the same people who do LOTUS so we definitely had high expectations of the food! However I didn’t quite understand what made it different to LOTUS…let’s take a look and see if you think the food has a Shanghainese spin to it!
Amazing food and deco. service are very friendly, lots of gluten free option. Have to try the cumin lamb rack and tomato chili soft shell crab. Will come back very soon
I regret we arrived 15 minutes the kitchen closed, because everything I tasted was fantastic.
I ordered the specials:
- Duck pancakes
- Kingfish sashimi
- Sallops & chives
The food was fresh, service was excellent and I had a great time. I'll come back.
Such an awesome restaurant! Fascinating decor, wonderful service, really reasonable price, and most food we ordered was quite tasty, definitely gonna come back next time. Two thumbs up!
This chinese restaurant opposite Hyde park is a real gem. The food is terrific, everything is really tasty and fresh. Their service is beyond good, their staff are so accommodating without being too intrusive... and the ambience in the restaurant is beautiful, not too loud or too dark. Seriously a fabulous place I would go back to again and again!
Awesome fine dining pan Asian tapas style restaurant - my wife and I went to celebrate her birthday with our friends and it was a night to remember! The host and hostess and sommelier looked after us really well! Standout dishes were spicy chicken with nuts, pipis, steamed fish, eggplant and egg (and all others!).
Madame Shanghai is located in Darlinghurst and is now serving Shanghai street food & yum cha. Upon entering the restaurant one is greeted by an old school elegance and Chinoiserie décor combined with a touch of blue and pink tones emulating the 1930's Shanghai. The 90 seater is open six days for dinner and a bar menu as well as yum cha lunch and dinner!
My partner and I had the pleasure of dining with two other friends over a hearty serving of yum cha, grilled main dishes & desserts - what a night it was to say the least. Madame Shanghai is not your typical Chinese restaurant as this is quite a modern take on the cuisine.
The highlight of the yum cha dishes was the BBQ duck and spinach dumplings! The main course included a variety of Asian dishes some of which included the soft shell crab and grilled milk bread, wok fried-sizzling king prawns, sticky pork hock, fried cauliflower with chickpea, chilli halves and aged vinegar and my favourite winner of the night was the oven baked red oxtail with shitake mushrooms, sorghum and barley pie!
To end of the extensive dinner menu we had mango pudding and coconut match wagon wheels. I found the latter quite sweet - and would highly suggest going with the mango pudding if you do not have a sweet tooth. I would highly recommend coming here for dinner and can't wait to be back with relatives!
