Good quality and we'll priced Japanese food, with the option to have mixed lunchboxes that allow you to try several dishes. None of it was mind blowing, but instead, consistently good. There was an error with our tablet and half of our order didn't go through and they picked it up quite quickly, and the food made it from the order to the table quite quickly. No vibe was ok as well, your typical small restaurant in a second floor, like many in the CBD.

Average food. Super slow service I used to love this place for it’s good value Japanese food but sadly standards have dropped recently. Food took really long to arrive with my partners food arriving first and mine arriving about half an hour later. We noticed that other tables had the same problems with one person receiving their food a lot earlier than the others. There was also a big gust of cold wind that kept sweeping the restaurant. When you stand up you feel the heating but it just doesn’t warm the room especially once you sit down. Everyone was putting their jackets and beanies on as it was getting so cold.

Excellent selection of set dishes. The curry is quite good. The random music in the background includes weird, aggro rap songs and laidback Japanese music (e.g. Ayumi Hamazaki, Kenzo etc). It is gets a bit naughty (e.g. songs with eff words) just ask the restaurant staff to switch to the polite Japanese songs.

I love this eatery, it's easily one of my favourite go-tos in the city for Japanese for the past five years. The food had never disappointed. Delicious ramen and incredibly considerate to separate the karage from the ramen bowl :) highly recommend! I don't think they allow split bills.

Kura Kura is a cute Japanese restaurant tucked away in Haymarket. Technically one location, split into two parts. Upstairs has a dining room, whereas the street level part is a smaller, authentic looking dining room and takeaway kitchen that you would typically see in Japan. Because of this, I chose the downstairs area to dine in. It appears that solo diners are seated at the bar area, whereas couples/small groups are at the tables and I understand that the menus do differ between the upstairs and downstairs locations. For the downstairs dining room area, you select what you want to order and order and pay at the front. The menu has a good variety of food choices and the prices are very reasonable for what you get. The food received was of excellent quality, prepared fast and tasted delicious. Overall I really enjoyed dining here and will make this my regular when I am after a quality Japanese meal.

Been coming to this place since early 2000 and I always come back when in Chinatown because staff are friendly, food is good and prices are decent. The small restaurant downstairs is great when you are dining alone, but if going with friends it can get very crowded because of the small space. Better try upstairs.

Nice little restaurant that’s tucked away near Paddy’s market. It was pretty busy when we arrived, but the food came relatively quickly. The staff were friendly and all the food was fresh and tasted good. We got the: - fried vegetables (pretty good) - prawn gyoza (great texture and taste) - salmon aburi (one of my favourites) - scallop aburi (amazing!!) - scallops (pretty nice too) Would highly recommend, particularly for the aburi!

Ive been here for couple times and it was good all the time but i just had it today with friends after a while, and its really disappointing about the food quality. Its not just as good as i normally had. The salmon wasnt fresh at all, the namban sauce wasnt like it supposed to be, also the karage quite dry and not tasty. Not gonna go back for a while i guess.

My hubby never go to this small dining restaurant at the corner haymarket near across market city. This Japanese restaurant provide wide of japanese classic from sushi, sashimi, bento and udon with affordable price.<br/><br/>My hubby ask me what is the best to oder in this place. I told him normally, i love their namban and i have been there for long time so I was not sure that they will be same taste after 8 years later. He decided to order his bento :<br/>Bento chicken namban with choice either agedashi tofu or salmon sashimi with Miso soup plus takoyaki and gyoza.<br/>My hubby loved sauce of chicken namban and they have fresh sashimi however, the portion is small for him so,He mentioned to staff that He thinks the bento will be small and not enoygh for him so staff giving another choice about half noodle and half donburi.<br/><br/>I told to staff then i will ordered vegetable udon.<br/>The udon is combined tofu and fried tofu plus seaweed. The portion is good enough but i feel the soup a bit sweet so i put chilli flake on top of my noodle and taste better than before.<br/><br/>The other half my hubby chose donburi chicken karaage with ontama and mayonaise.he mixed ontama with rice and eat with karaage. He said the taste is not bad but if they can make more crispy will be better.<br/><br/>Overall, the place is too small and waiting period is not too long. However, sitting place is not comfortable for both of us. Food was not bad but does not mean really great based on price can say affrodable price.
The Next Rush
It’s great here, it’s quick, its friendly, its sort of no-frills but not, but more importantly it’s literally next to the overpass that takes you from the fringe of Chinatown into Darling Harbour – a regular trail that’s walked by the team. For the health conscious, the Salmon and Avocado salad is reminiscent of the same filled classic sushi roll, however if you’re visiting after a post training session this may not be enough.

Tiny hole in the wall joint that punches above its weight (in size) Decent sized, resentable meals served quickly. I had the chicken kariage bento which came with salad, miso soup, agedashi tofu and some takoyaki. Be prepared to keep your elbows in and have someone bumping into your back but for a quick, yummy meal, it was pretty good.

Service not as good as it used to be - food comes out haphazardly and frequently takes way too long. Sake is pricey and alcoholic beverages limiting so, this tends to be a soft drink or water experience except when they offer sake as a special and you can wait for it to arrive to your table as you are about to leave. Chicken nanban bento set is pretty good for a quick dinner or even take away. The space is pretty small though so i wouldn't recommend for huge group. Good take away restaurant or dine in if possible. With the meal set, you will get salmon sashimi, small takoyaki, and a piece of gyoza.

My 1st try at Japanese food and my friend took me to Kura, she used to come here 10yrs back and she says the taste is just the same. Small eatery, quiet busy, fresh food and subtle taste! Definitely worth a visit! Lots of option to try, I’m defo going there again!

Such a cute gem we found while walking around Sydney. Me and my partner both chose our half and half meals which was such a cool concept. Everything tasted fresh and the meal was filling. It's such a cute cosy restaurant, one of those more cramped restaurants that you actually don't mind because it feels so homely. I will definitely come back if when I visit Sydney again.

Pleas get the old menu back. I have been eating in this place for yrs. love the old lunch menu. reasonable price and amount of food. Now they change the lunch menu to a set menu, which including the sasimi,salad and udon (I don’t like need any of these!!) I just want a simple cheap lunch with simple and nice protein+carb. Not having a fine dining here and paying $20 for the lunch set. Keep doing this and you will loose all ur regular customer

Late night dinner after Xihuahua 🐶 's performance. Lovely noodles! I especially enjoyed their clam and pork udon. Service is friendly and fast. It deserves a 5 but the sashimi plate had stinky pickle that had seemingly gone bad. Hence the score. Such a pity.

A hop, skip and jump from Paddy's Market you will find Kura. You will need to walk up 2 flights of stairs to get to the restaurant.  A well set out restaurant that was full with a lunch time crowd and I can see why. Reasonably priced Japanese fare served in reasonable time and by friendly staff. The food and quantity is good for the price. Something of a must have when I visit a Japanese restaurant is Kara-age chicken. Kura's dish certainly did not disappoint.

I enjoyed eating at Kura, they make exquisite Bento dishes that makes you hunger for more. I took a while eating at Kura, bite after bite of that delicious food. I had the Bento Box Karate with Agedashi tofu and boneto flakes. Thinking about it makes me feel hungry. I also got the gyoza which was great but not amazing. The place looks old but cozy, it's clean and it's affordable.<br/><br/>Would recommend for lunch or dinner.

The food is tasty. The only tricky thing is first time I took away food and the takwaway container not even fill in a half. Second time I ordered something to eat in and take away, this time is totally different. They gave me a lot which was enough for me to survive to dinner. And the takeaway container was heavy. Wired!

I always come here to eat my favorite teriyaki beef with my boyfriend. Sadly today they cant make my order properly, i wanted to get rid of the onion and shallot and they said all the vege had been mixed all together. I come here quite often. We were argue with the lady (indian background) who served us. I also didnt get the slice orange that they normally served until I asked. Little things that makes me dont want to come back anymore. Such an annoying day.

This place started out as a hole in the wall with a tiny space for seating but has now expanded to have an upper floor with more menu options. It is an authentic place is run by Japanese.  As we were in a hurry, we just went in to the downstairs area. There's a good variety of menu options there with set meals on rice or noodles. Prices are really cheap  - you can get a rice meal with deep friend chicken and salad and miso soup for $11.50. It's good value for what you get, but at the same time it's not the best quality Japanese food, in that things are done quickly and there's not much presentation to speak of. The food still tastes good, but execution is not great.

So how did Kura fare? To be honest, I wasn’t a fan. With the exception of the occasional highlight, the meal sat somewhere between below average and mediocre. To be fair, I probably can’t expect more given the prices (cheap) and location (central and convenient), but I would’ve gladly forsaken the very extensive menu for fewer, but more well-made options.

Kura is an established outlet which we hvnt been. Probably best to stick with their bento/don or any of their simple cooked food (read no fancy scampi soup n the likes, no fancy wagyu whatevs), see pics below on what to avoid. With the exception of the karaage don n tako balls.

Kura Kura has been around forever, starting off as a small takeaway joint opposite Market City. It now covers two floors, with more seating on the top level and a nifty iPad ordering system. The menu is cheap with most set meals (bento) falling below the $20 mark. Having said that, you certainly get what you pay for. We weren't impressed by the quality of the food and would prefer to spend a few more dollars for tastier options elsewhere. Food was served quickly but was disappointing in terms of flavour and for the sashimi especially, freshness. Decent option for a no-frills, cheap feed before catching a show at the Capitol Theatre but otherwise, would not go back.

I remember the first time coming to Kura Kura was after the K-Pop Music Festival in 2011 (yes I saw DBSK, SNSD, 2AM, 4Minute, CNBLUE, KARA, Miss A and SHINee live 🤣!!!). They were a tiny shop back then and still are now. Inside seating capacity has not changed with maximum 15 pax so it can get super cramped.<br/><br/>My first ever #okonomiyaki was eaten here, and it's still one of my favourites 😋! I adore the contrast between golden crispy bottom and soft fluffy filling. The batter is thick and moist, spongy yet firm enough to hold its shape, filled with just the right amount of cabbage, drizzled with the yummiest sauces and is the most delicious thing to eat on a cold night. After 7 years this okonomiyaki still has a special place in my heart and stomach 💝, even though I have eaten many many more throughout Japan. It's not just a silly "first" though, it's actually really good! 😘💞

We had the Asari & Pork Udon which was highly recommended and the Kuromaru Chashu Ramen which came with a black sesame broth. Both were really good! The first had a clear and flavorsome broth while the second a thick black broth. They warmed the stomach on this cold weather season!<br/><br/>Order is self service with a computer pad found at the table. Very convenient!

A great hole-in the wall Japanese place - just what I needed on a cold winter's night at 10pm after a long, frantic assignment session. It's very small with limited seating so don't bring all your friends and expect to find room! Very convenient location. I had the prawn gyoza chilli udon - great hearty (but not heavy) flavours and a good kick to it. The udon has both chilli and non-chilli options<br/>Be prepared for a good swift kick in your throat, it's probably not suitable for those sitting on the proverbial 'can-handle/can't-handle' fence.

If I’m needing a basic but tasty Japanese fix then this is a good option, their menu has a range of options so it reminds me a little of an izakaya style menu. Food is always tasty and it’s always good to have Japanese made by Japanese

This is actually a great Japanese restaurant for a nice inexpensive and filling meal. They offer a variety of bento boxes and I liked how they have a half rice and half ramen option for when you can’t decide which one to get! I ordered the unagi rice bowl and ramen bento box which was really nice. <br/><br/>I also love cheese so I was super excited to try the chicken with cheese and the takoyaki with cheese dishes both of which were really yummy!!

What a lovely tiny restaurant! Love the ambience of the restaurant. Food are super duper cheap. Ordered Beef Udon for myself and Chicken Ramen for my boyfriend. The beef udon is okay, but I expected richer and saltier soup broth. The service is good as well!

It's a super tiny restaurant which locates opposite to Market City. I went there very late at night for quick dinner and I was the last customer on that day.<br/><br/>Ordered {Teriyaki Chicken Bento}, which is all in a box and looks pretty nice. There're chicken, salmon, salad and balls. The price is fixed for all bentos $14.3, which is reasonable. Average quality, while chicken is a bit charring.<br/>{Egg Udon} is much cheaper. It's suitable if you're not feeling very hungry.<br/><br/>The staff are very friendly.

Cheap, quick and tasty Japanese food! The quality is average but obviously you get what you pay for. The place is very small and busy but you are there for the food.
Food Is Really Great
The tonkotsu soup is quite sweet (I got the kakuni pork ramen) but it was still good! Also I recently found a love for eggs in ramen, and this one definitely met expectations. Service is quick and friendly. The only thing is that the downstairs eating area is quite small and there’s lots of foot traffic outside so it can be quite loud. There are seating options for both group and solo dining.

Very small restaurant at ground floor but there is a large roomy, bright Restuarant on the second floor. <br/><br/>4/5 The tonkotsu ramen is actually really yummy, noddles with deep fried chicken breast, crispy outside and tender inside, and jelly yolk. It’s fantastic! <br/><br/>4.5/5The sushi rolls, four pieces spicy tempura prawn roll is really nice, with crispy prawn 🍤 and soft butter avocado 🥑 inside, little roes on the top. <br/><br/><br/><br/>

Really not good,I am not a critic,we asked for the Zomato and it looks ok when we are so hungry.but the beef is too soft,the truth is it tastes like a paper,I just can’t find anything like meat,the taste or smell.what is worse,we found one hair in the beef???the sauce flavor is too heavy to hide the meat whole taste.the salmon is very ordinary even below it.but after these,the service is good!the waiters and waitresses here are nice!and solve the hair problem as soon as possible! After trying the Kura on Dixon Street and being thoroughly impressed, decided to try out the Kura opposite market city. <br/><br/>We went upstairs. Ordered the half ramen half curry, cockle sashimi and also black sesame ramen with chashu rice. I’m crazy for half ramen half curry and the black sesame ramen was an interesting twist. The atmosphere is also very vibrant and busy. <br/><br/>Overall positive experience but I am more of a fan for the Kura on Dixon Street, as I enjoy the more intimate setting, and find there to be more options on the menu at a more affordable price.

Love love love this place!  They have a tiny little restaurant on street level (which is open all day long) and a bigger restaurant upstairs where alcohol is served.  Both are great but the restaurant upstairs has much bigger menu.  I highly recommend trying one of their Japanese wine tasting trios (the mango wine is so good I want to buy a bottle to take home).They have a huge entree menu (5 pages!) and lots of things that cannot be found in other Japanese restaurants.  Some of my favourite items on the menu there are the spicy chicken skewer,   Service is great and very fast, even when the restaurant is busy.<br/>I cannot believe not a lot of people know about this place.  Next time you're in the area (it's across from Paddy's Market), give it a go!

Kura is a staple for me when it comes to casual Japanese dining. The original seating area is a little reminiscent of one of those hole-in-the-wall or mom-and-pop establishments due to its limited seating. Once you ARE seated, you're literally no more than 3m away from the kitchen! They have expanded to an upstairs dining area but I haven't been there personally. The place does many Japanese classics really well and at affordable prices (my guess would be ~ from $9-$15). They also have half and half options where you choose a noodle/rice dish. <br/>Pictured below are: unagi (eel) rice bowl (~$13) and chicken katsu with rice (~$12) with salmon sashimi on the side) (+$3).

With Authentic Japanese cooks , Kura has always delivered my Japanese food craving. Menu is pretty humble and every dish that comes out taste like a nice home made meal. Sashimi wasn't the freshest though and was slimy and disintegrated in my mouth, I find that their salmon and sushis arent fresh here and must be made earlier and kept in fridge.<br/>Love ordering off the iPad, so many items to choose off the menu.

Have wanted to try out Kura for a while now, and recently headed down late one friday night just before they closed. They were still more than happy to serve us and the service was friendly, food was delicious and it came out so quickly! We ordered the chicken katsu nanban bao buns (I personally wasn't a fan of these unfortunately), the agedashi tofu (absolutely LOVED this dish... it was personally my favourite), teriyaki beef (absolutely delicious, I wish we ordered more), the katsu chicken (really enjoyed this dish) and the wagyu beef sushi roll (wasn't too bad, but I wasn't aware that the beef would be raw which I personally wasn't a massive fan of, but I would still recommend trying it because it definitely was nice). The seating in here is very minimal and very close together, not a very comfortable atmopshere, but the food is good.

Bento Boxes are awesome as very big and filling. A bit on the pricey side though and couls go somewhere else for same price but better quality bento box.<br/><br/>Sushi was very mediocre. Felt like there was a lot of rice and sauce drenching and overpowering everything else. The size of the roll was too big.<br/><br/>A cool feature they do have are the half and half meals (rice dish x 2, noodle dish x 2 or a mix). Grab one of these and a few entrees and you have yourself a cheaper meal to share between two!<br/><br/>*****<br/>Take note that this is of course all based on my unqualified opinion!<br/><br/>My considerations: 1. I came here to try the Bento boxes and I was satisfied but it definitely wasn't memorable. The udon is very basic and seems to be assembled "2 minute noodle" style. Great variety of drinks - a cool place to chill for a few drinks with friends and have sushi!

Came back for the third time to try a half n half chicken cutlet nambaan donburi and tonkotsu ramen. Service is always friendly and on time as usual and the waiting time for my mean was around 10 minutes which was fair. <br/><br/>The tonkutsu broth itself was very creamy and rich in pork flavour while the noodles sucked in all the flavour before dissolving the goodness into my mouth. Egg came out well boiled with the gooey yolk. Could've put at least a slice of meat esp pork into the ramen as there was literally no meat in the ramen except for bare mince pieces but overall a good ramen.<br/><br/>The chicken cutlet nambaan donburi: the chicken itself is pretty crunchy on the outside while being nice and succulent on the inside but going into actual flavour: it came from the coating itself which was made fresh by the cooks but it could've been better if there were more spices in the chicken rather than in the nambaan sauce provided on top of it (nambaan tastes like aioli but Japanese style). The rice I could tell they used sushi rice due to its soft beady texture in the mouth which was quite nice. <br/><br/>Overall a solid dinner for the night and also recommended for the big stomachs out there and Kura you will most likely see me here again!

Best place for those who like to try rice, noodle and sashimi together... with its awesome half to half combo. <br/>I try the karaage and ramen set and it was a good option for me who like big portion food (maybe consider as large for an Asian portion)!!! <br/>The taste is okay only for me but better than most places I try before. Had the soymilk hotpot, sashimi and chips with cheese. Hotpot was very filling for two people and was also delicious, sashimi was nice and fresh. Chips and cheese were quite standard. Overall great meal and really good service. Was really nice and warm on a cold rainy Sydney day :)

Love this place! Hard to get in sometimes with the tiny space & limited places, also not the most comfortable setting being so squash for space. However all that is forgiven when the food come out... you can see my chicken karaage tonkotsu ramen is a winner. The soup broth thick & creamy colour, not salty & the half egg with the soft googy yolk. The noodle was the right texture, I like them a little softer. The karaage chicken was juicy, but not oily. Love it!

You can't beat the terayki salmon from this place. We often have it for a takeaway lunch. They have opened a larger kura restaurant next door where you cant sit down for a bigger meal. <br/><br/>

Went for lunch over the Easter weekend. Service was quick, order arrive almost immediately once we keyed in onto the iPad. Had the unagi rice and ramen set. Kids had sushi and the missus the salmon and udon set. Friendly service and accomodating, helped when requesting a baby seat. Portions are not huge but I figured that's what you get in the city.

Kura is an extremely small and cozy restaurant next to Market City. It's so small that you will definitely bump onto anybody who is walking in or out the restaurant, no matter where you sit. 😁<br/><br/>Food wise, the half ramen and unagi rice set was just very below average. The ramen is soggy and the broth was salty. The unagi was stale too.

Finally I got a chance to try this popular Japanese restaurant in Haymarket. I went here with my friends and they have nice interior with Japanese touch into it. If you wanna check out this place alone don't worry they have individual seats available. Chicken Cutlet Namban - $11. I ordered this menu after all of the hype I got from the people and yes! this is definitely a winner dish. The katsu was crispy outside and tender inside. The sour cream sauce was perfect without overpowering the dish. It's definitely a perfect combination. I really recommended this dish to the first timer out there.

Staff very friendly and service quite fast for a take away<br/><br/>It was good value and the sushis (spicy tuna roll and salmon were pretty good)<br/>Big disappointment for the chicken teriyaki as a menu set, the quantity of chicken was pretty small and it wasn't really teriyaki sauce.<br/><br/>I would recommend it for the yakisoba and the sushis tho, overall a pretty good experience !

I believe the menu has been updated by seeing the menu is different to the one I saw in store.<br/>We ordered edamame, takoyaki balls with roe and cheese ( new item on menu), teriyaki chicken udon and regular unagi don.<br/>Edamame was very salty but was still enjoyable!!<br/>Taoyaki balls well lovely, the cheese and roe made the texture more chewy and nice <br/>The udon soup for ungai don was delicious! The salmon was fresh and the rice was lovely with the unagi<br/>The chicken teriyaki was delicious as well! <br/>A nice place to eat with a friends to eat for lunch <br/>But not ideal for big group because it is a bit small and uncomfortable<br/>Staff were lovely and nice

Walking past Padee market and reading great reviews on here, I figured "When in Sydney" I might as well try out the local Ramen places and compare them to back home in Melbourne.<br/><br/>In terms of authenticity this place can't be beat, compared to back home stand-alone restaurants are far and few between with most being international chains who have set up shop in Australia.<br/><br/>The waiting staff themselves were Japanese which is virtually unheard of back home in Melbourne, it's the little things which add to authenticity for me. <br/><br/>I had taken a quick peek on this page prior to entering to see the somewhat standard fare when it came to what was on the menu. When I entered however I noticed a distinct item was lacking, an item which is generally offered wherever you go, the house Tonkotosu ramen which is generally a staple Ramen for most establishments.<br/><br/>The pieces themselves were laid out, with the standard broth and accompaniments on top separating each one from the other with moderate and well priced bowls given portion sizing.  So much so I was actually surprised at the end of my meal that I had no yet reached the minimum $20 eftpos transaction, admittedly as I was on company card I wasn't paying very much attention to what the total cost of the meal ended up being.<br/><br/>I had settled on the Chicken Katsu ramen, which was in a miso broth. The egg was not seasoned, rather just a semi soft-hard boiled egg half was placed in the bowl, atop the noodles. A generous portion of Nori was placed on the far end, next to an equally generous portion of Chicken Katsu which was breaded in panko.<br/><br/>Accompanying my ramen was two sticks of the house Kushiage, which was fairly rustic in nature as in essence it was exactly as it sounded on paper. Meatballs on a skewer dipped in Teriyaki before serving. Traditionally if done properly would be done on a Konro BBQ to give a seared and charred coating to the outside of the meatballs, but this was evidently lacking. The Teriyaki sauce itself was standard fair, being somewhere halfway between salty and sweet leaning more so towards sweet.

This place looks quite nice and authentic however wasn't overly impressed with the food. The best parts were the soup in my sukiyaki beef udon but it did look vastly different to the photo shown. The half half option is quite cool as well- great for us food lovers that wanna try it all! <br/><br/>Tables were way too squishy- it was hard to get out of the booth and tables were quite sticky as well so that got a down rating. <br/><br/>Come here for a cheap eat either alone or with a couple of friends- not a group of pals !

This corner restaurant is small and cute. It doesn't seat many people so go early or order takeaway. The teriyaki chicken and fish are both delicious. Good quality ingredients and friendly staff.

A week or so ago, I went to Kura for dinner with my friends in the evening. Whilst I have had good experiences in previous sessions there, there were many problems this time around. The main issue is the amount of time it took to get all the food out; 10 dishes for 10 people shouldn't have been difficult, but instead it took an hour or so to get everyone served. A person who ordered rice on our table also was forced to wait almost 30 minutes for it. For rice!<br/><br/>Additionally, there is very little value for money especially for the ramen they have on offer - best to travel up to Town Hall for cheaper and faster service.

Kura was the first Japanese restaurant i had dined at, that was a very very long time ago. I used to go eat in their little shop downstairs having no idea there was a much larger restaurant upstairs where you could order food off of iPads. <br/>It's been a while since i last came here however i will always fondly remember eating here. I want to go back again sometime in the near future. Im hoping its as good as i remember it.

Food was fresh, very good portion size if you really hungry. Great value with high quality food. <br/>We had the curry omelette summer special with fried chicken, which had all I wanted in one dish; fried egg, curry, rice and fried chicken YUMMY! <br/>We also ordered eel on rice, and it was superb. The flavours were well balanced and just right. The food wasn't overly salty like other Japanese restaurants.

At a corner is this restaurant with downstairs and upstairs. We went to the upstairs one, Kura Kura, and there were tablets on the table with an electronic menu for us to choose our food. This reminded me of another Japanese place I've previously reviewed that is in Melbourne's Chinatown.<br/><br/>I like how you can choose what you want to order from the menu and it would get sent straight to them to prepare. A downfall was they were laggy and one of the iPads on our table messed up, so we had to ask for replacement ones before choosing our meals.The place was nice, with a lot of wooden textures used in order for it to feel more like an oriental Japanese restaurant. I went here with 7 other people, so we ordered heaps an filled up the table (view photos).<br/>My cousin said the place is known for its ramen dishes, so I got a 'new' one. It's a creamy salmon ramen dish that came out looking like pasta. Hahaha. I couldn't finish it as it was a bit too rich for me, I should've chose something else. But it was average, wouldn't say it was good.The side dishes my cousins ordered were okay as well, not exceptional, there were a few that werent even hot and were almost room temperature, so that sort of concerned me a bit, were they cooked ages ago then served just now without being reheated? Maybe. I tried a bit of a yakisoba and that was really tasty, I should have ordered that instead. From what I recall, the food was decent priced, but didn't really wow me.<br/>The staff all seemed very friendly and nice and helpful and were definitely Japanese. <br/><br/>TLDR: I went to the upstairs restaurant, they had electronic ordering menus on tablets - some lagged or messed up, food was very average and price was ok, staff were friendly and definitely Japanese. Would only recommend if you want to go somewhere with an extensive menu, if I was to come back to Sydney I would go elsewhere for Japanese cuisine.

Really great place to eat Japanese food! The foods came out fast. I ordered nanban chicken and it was so good! The chicken was crispy and the sour cream sauce was a perfect companion. The spicy chicken was also good and ofc the karaage is also good. Overall will come back to this place to order other menus. And if you're alone don't worry they have individual seats available.

Kura is a little Japanese place in haymarket opposite Paddy's markets. Such a tiny place with tiny chairs but it is super cute and the food is delicious, and cheap and reminded me of the izakaya in Japan. They have little bento boxes and other small plates. We got the okonomiyaki which is hard to find in Sydney - a small hot plate with a cabbage okonomiyaki and a nice cabbage and sauce on top. It was delicious. Also got the salmon wings - crispy tempura skinned wings! Cool! I also got a dessert/drink - a blue lemonade icy pole in a glass of lemonade. I will definitely go back to try more things. I loved it.

I love the snack food in the restaurant such as roasted beef and sashimi. Scallop sashimi is my absolute Favourite. We ordered two different flavours of fried udon and the one with beef is better than the seafood one.

Upstairs eatery with ipad ordering was a bit of a miss. Choosing the option of a waitress to come to you on the ipad is pointless since you have to wave your arm anyway for attention. The mentaiko and cheese chips is not good. Used cheap kraft cheese slice and not enough cod roe sauce, priced at $6.90. The karaage chicken was good but needed more mayonnaise, priced at $7.90. Location is good but they should work on their service.

If you ever have trouble deciding between a rice dish and noodles then this might be the place for you! <br/>It was $13.90 for one rice dish and one noodle (both half portions) I chose karaage chicken with rice and an egg and beef udon, the food itself was pretty good, the udon was a bit soft for my liking but still enjoyable. The reason for my rating of 3 was because my chicken was raw on the inside and if it wasn't for their kind staff and prompt replacement of my dish it would have been much lower. Granted I do think that raw chicken is one of the worst things that you could receive at a restaurant I still think that this place is worth a chance.

Wednesday night went upstair restaurant and ordered karage udon last night, end up eating the toppings only as the udon were literally not cooked at all. I asked the staff if they could kindly re-cook the udon noodle as it was uncooked, after 8mins later they brought my udon bowl back and its gone worse. All they did was microwave my bowl and re severed, this time the udon was literally dried and uncooked still. I wont be returning nor recommend this restaurant

Delicious ramen in chinatown of Sydney! The flavours are all there and the price is very reasonable. The service is great too. Very polite waitress. Definitely coming back when I am next in town.

Not too bad Japanese food. Sashimi was fresh and tasted great. Fried chicken was good, could be a little less oily. Takoyaki was a little lacking with octopus. The ice cream dessert is served right out of the little tub. Matcha latte with cream isnt really my thing wasnt a big fan of it. <br/><br/>Space is very tight.

A tiny Japanese restaurant (with Japanese employees) opposite haymarket - limited seatings. They're very welcoming. Provided great food for the price. <br/><br/>Ordered:<br/>Half Chicken curry and half Chicken cutlet udon. Both dishes were very tasty and comes in a generous portion for $13.90. Recommend doing the half and half dishes. Takoyaki were standard. Also ordered the Salmon salad which didn't arrive but that was okay as I was getting food coma! <br/><br/>Definitely will be coming back if I'm up in Sydney again.
