Great food, great beer, did I mention how good the food was? Had a double....wow! Still hungry...had a single. Do the single with bacon. The crunch was perfect on every bite. Great staff too. Super friendly with my booking. Keep it up guys. Great location. Bueno!
This is no doubt the best burger joint I've ever been to, everything is fresh and tastes amazing - not to mention the sick weekly specials!!.

On my lunch break was going to my usual spot in top ryde but walked past this place and quickly double backed when I saw the name.
This is one of those boutique burger joints, prices look good and burgers sound nice.
Got a single, wagyu awesome, bun awesome, sauce awesome, sweet gherkins awesome, cheese awesome, tomato and lettuce a little on the light side(personal preference a bit more) but didn't matter as everything else was championed.
Great atmosphere, great crew.
Would love to try the sides and add a few options but always eat light at work, so this place works in so many levels and is passionate about the burg.

Went to the new Down n out in Ryde and had the double, it was amazing. Absolutely loved it. Given how busy it was, the service was great too. Highly recommend it!!!

Have eaten here at peak hour lunch time and now on a weekend and the food is fantastic and always consistent. Always go the double with bacon and they do really good poppers as well. Best burgs in the CBD and I consider myself a connoisseur.

Every Friday, me and my girlfriend have our ritual of "Date Night", and we decided to go to the Down 'n' Out in Top Ryde. We walk in (ladies first, obviously. Gentleman skills on LOCK) to be greeted by a smile and a "How can I help you?". We order, we take a seat and do the obvious lovey dovey thing of taking our phones out and staring at them (you can tell we're romantic). Out of my peripheral hearing, I catch the faint sound of something I swear can't be what it is, and to my surprise, Everybody Dies by J. Cole starts playing, followed by Electric Relaxation by A Tribe Called Quest, Legendary by Joey Badass, The Bird by Anderson .paak, just a myriad of amazing tracks that I seldom hear other than from family and my Spotify (Google them hits if you never heard any of those tracks before!). I have to say, the burger was dope, but the music is what's captivated me. Not only have they created an environment where the culture is great with the food, they've made it nostalgic to the point of being at home, late at night, just vibing to tracks while you do your thing. Down 'n' Out, I'm coming back for more!
One of the best burger joints on the eastern seaboard of Australia , the burgers are always cooked to perfection and their weekly specials are something you dont want to miss. Big shout out to the guy at the counter who always has a smile on his face and greets everyone like an excited child
The specials here rock! especially when they are fried chicken! seriously, one of the best places to get fried chicken burgers in in town!

1) Ape Style (added mushroom) - the quality of the beef is what you expect from a good burger and the portebello mushroom was soo thick and fried to perfection
The cheese patty was a bit too much for me and I never understood fries in a burger because they just get soggy
2) Onion Rings - Still crunchy after a really long time but I do find that after a while onion rings become very greasy but that's in general with most places I've come across
After eating my share of burgers over the years, I find myself gravitating back to a more simple sandwich. All the enormous burgers filled with crazy ingredients may be good fun for a bit, but I find that all they really do for me is detract from the simple pleasure of meat and cheese between two buns. Down N’ Out goes back to basics in the best way possible, with a focus on doing the classics just right. Mind you, they do have a more adventurous weekly special, but if you’re finding yourself a bit jaded by the surplus of gimmicky burgers on the market, Down N’ Out feels like a return to nature (in the greasiest way possible).

Ight hold out, legit when you get to the entrance of down n out legit it look so sketchy and dodgy. But once you go up the flight of stairs, the vibe is most definitely not a let down. Its between a pub like vibe and like a little secret restaurant. with primary group of mates, workers from the cbd and a variety of other groups. The atmosphere is dimly lit but just enough to make everything out, with retro TV shows playing and classic comic strips and news around the brown wall its definitely open to a variety of identities. The burgers are pricey but the size is not a let down as it is extremely good for value and taste, from order to burgers on the table it is extremely quick, service from the bar is very friendly and conversation-able its not the bland how are you what would you like today.
Enough about the place onto the food, for starters i suggest single burger or double as flavors are basic but extremely packing with its fresh lettuce, beautiful sweet bun, just the right amount of its signature sauce and god damn juicy meat paddy, honestly you cant go wrong with it.
but if you wanna go big or go home they have weekly specials which is extremely messy and packing so much content in it, enough though there is a lot of content flavor is just right and balancing out each other. if you are staying for a short time in sydney or just pasting by i suggest you give its weekly special burgers, cause god knows they will come back.
honestly this is a place i would not mind going to week and week again, specially before or after events or simply just after work its not too loud not to quiet just right. love it
BBQ Shapes
Loved the DnO Shapes series and what a fitting way to end it with the popular BBQ flavour. This had everything you’d want in a chicken burger, onion rings, cheese, bacon and a mayo with some kick to it.
Fried chicken had that wicked BBQ shapes flavour and was so tender with each bite, cheese gradually melted deeper into the burger which just made the chicken that much better. Bacon was plentiful and crisp and the onion rings were huge, they had to be with the chicken, was a nice soft texture to compensate the firmer texture of the chicken.
Won a free shot of fireball via their scratchie which topped off another great DnO chicken burger.
Environment: Small bar with dimmed lights, the only bad thing I’d say about this place is it’s not very pram friendly as you need to go up a lot of stairs however the staff are super friendly. They went out of their way to boil water to heat up my daughters milk so I’m sure they’d give you a helping hand if you need.
Food:
Single burger: The patties were cooked perfectly, nice and pink.
Chick’n: The chicken breast was cooked just right, not dry with a nice crispy coating that is not too thick. The sauce was amazing!
Tiger fries: Didn’t really stand out for me but something different rather than just normal fries.
First visit here to grab one of the specials that grabbed my eye on Instagram. Unfortunately it missed the mark for me. Chicken was a bit overcooked leading to a dry coating that has a somewhat chalky mouth feel. Sauce was good but there wasn't enough and the bun was a little dry too. I eat a lot of burgers so I'll be sure to come back and try one of their more popular burgers. Keen to see what else these guys can do.
Dark little bar with fancy cocktails. They got cheesy burgers and crispy wings with tangy buffalo sauce. No.2 burger in Syd. Xihuahua 🐶 ate too much there.
Great craft beer selection, just what I needed with my burger. Hearty burger with delicious meat. Wings could have maybe been a bit hotter for my taste and the blue cheese sauce was tasty. This is the place you go for a dirty burger and a nice beer, like a cooler version of in n out.
Wow!! Don’t be fooled by the grungy bar vibes, Down N Out aren’t playing around when it comes to their burgers. These beauties are extremely well thought out and put together. Firstly the presentation is immaculate. In terms of taste; the sauces were extremely complimenting to the meat without being overbearing. The meat in particular the beef, was incredibly flavoursome and juicy. All the components were fresh. All in all you can’t ask for much more. The single cheeseburger with bacon and jalapeños is up there with the best burgers we’ve had! Do yourself a favour and pay them a visit if you take your burgers seriously!!

Met up with some friends here for dinner one night. Great place to meet up to eat and drink! The burgers here are quite nice and the hot and spicy wings were well made. The wings were not spicy though. I ordered the single beef burger and the special sauce they had in the burger reminded me of the same mayo they use in a whopper at Hungry Jack's! Loved it. Fried chips were ok, just your standard thin cut chips with seasoning nothing out of the ordinary. Overall not bad at all!

I go to DNO at least once a week, always to try their weekly special. They never fail to let me down on quality or presentation. The beef is always cooked beautifully, leaving it juicy and full of flavour. Their chicken is usually coated in something different for each special which mixes up the flavour of standard chicken so that taste doesn’t get boring.
I’d highly recommend going to try their specials. I feel their standard menu burgers don’t offer much to me personally, but they could work for you.
These guys seem to thrive off their instagram worthy burgs, which is fine. It attracts an audience through the door. I had their basic burg with bacon and it was pretty good. Fresh, filling, nice patty, tasty bun. Its a bar setting inside, grungy but not gross. Next time im in syd n they have a limited edition burg that i can stomach, I'm so coming back.
Home to some of the best burgers I’ve ever tasted!! Would definitely recommend this place to others. The staff are nice and the wait time isn’t that long! They also have cool interior. The burgers are constructed so well and are full of flavour and are totally satisfying and filling. Every bite will have you in awe. Would for sure come again :)
Popped by this place to have lunch. We had the special burger and the chicken burger. The burgers here are pretty good, not oust and in amazing. The buns were abit dry, the burger needed a bit more sauce to cover for the chicken. The chicken overfilled the burger - which was not bad, but it just needed more sauce. The fries were really good though. Would definitely come back to try more of the filthier burgers! ;)
Good burgers, but a little pricey, Convenient location inside a bar so you can grab a beer with your burger. Got the “hot mess”, just be aware, the chips are part of (inside) the burger, and not on the side as I expected. However it is quite nice, and to be honest I don’t need the extra carbs. Friendly service
First time visiting this venue and on this particular visit I tried their ‘Chick’n’ Burger. It was quite good but not amazing. Might try their other burgers next time.
Pretty much walked in and had second thoughts on somewhere else so we walked out, but then a few minutes came back cause we wanted to try a new burger place. So we came, was greeted by the cashier/waiter (he was praying that we would come back after walking in as he told us), asked whats good on the menu, i forgot the name of the burger but ordered the burger of the day/week? coming with fries and i realised why did i even bother walking out of the joint? Would recommend this place if in the city if close to World Square or Event Cinemas.
Had the chance to try down n out at their pop up in canberra. Extremely impressive. Got the double beef and the beef w/ chicken. Theres a reason there is a lot of hype about these guys in sydney because there burgers were delicious. Looking forward to my next sydney visit.

Last time I came here was way back when they were serving the Pokemon burgers. Haven’t had a chance to go back since, but I was craving a burger today. Ordered the double and it was ready pretty quick. Beef was great, cheese melted well, bun was super soft and held together well, and it had just enough salad! Only downside is I wish they had wrapped it in another layer of paper before it went in the bag, because the juices soaked through the bag in a couple of minutes! Other than that, no complaints. Solid good feed
This place was raved about by a lot of people on instagram. Sam has been to down and out before and he loved it, he gets the mushroom burger, the only vegetarian option and he said it's one of the best veggie burger. I ordered their standard 'single' cheeseburger, it was alright but it definitely wasn't the best.. it was missing that chargrilled flavour. The sides were expensive, 4jalapeño poppers for $8 and tiger fried with a bit of sauce for $6. Sam loved it, I didn't like it that much so we agreed on a 3.5/5. Just FYI, the bar is just next to the burger seats so if you want to get drinks you can get it from the bar, down n out doesn't have their own drinks which was disappointing.

Waiting in line for 10mins and another 10mins till you hear the sweet sound of your buzzer ringing to receiving your burger. WORTH IT!

OMG! Best burgers ever! Haven't been in store, got the Double & Single delivered to our apartment block TWICE!! Next time I'm back in Sydney that's my first stop.

I got the vegetarian burger and damn was it surprisingly good!
I was actually holding my breath waiting for it to taste horrid but it was completely the opposite.
Not sure why i thought it would be but maybe because most veggo burgers don't really taste that great.
Anyway, this was definitely rated high on my list!
Good service too and the prices weren't bad.
Located off of George St. it's not hard to get to although I think they only open during certain times.

Pretty decent burger, the chicken is so crispy! The bun has an interesting airiness to it that is very different to your typical bun. Overall good sauce, lettuce and chicken ratio 👌🏼 Their staff are very friendly and accommodating as well :)
Whilst in Sydney I was able to visit another burger place I’d heard good things about and was super keen to check out. Down N’ Out is located in the Sir John Young Hotel right in the middle of the Sydney CBD. Which is fantastic as you can have a beer with your burger. Burgers and beers, beers and burgers, what more could you ask for?!
Another team lunch found us getting burgers from Down N Out. We ordered the weekly special of the noodle burger with a Korean style sauce, along with their classic chicken burger too. This is certainly one of the better burgers I have had, and everyone really enjoyed the special too - which is saying something! I am pretty keen on trying a few more burgers from here too :) The service was so friendly too, though the burgers did take some time. To be fair, these burgers reach us piping hot and the chicken is honestly just so freaking tender... oily fatty deliciousness all put together :D

Gosh I love this place. It's a grungy old corner pub but their burgs and creativity are on point.
The first time I went was for a crazy ass Mac n cheese burger swimming in crunchy cheesy Mac.
And the second time I went was when the place was hypetown on the Pokeburgs which sent Sydneysiders into a tailspin.
I had the zomburg Halloween special creation and they were tasty. Vibrant buns form the Pikachu burgers which are stacked with meat, cheese and an unknown zingy green sauce.
Of course a side of loaded fries are a must - think fries loaded with cheese sauce, special sauce and sautéed onions. Hell yeah!
Need to get back here asap!
It's my first review on Zomato, because I seriously believe this place is underrated. My partner and I have been here so many times, and they never cease to amaze us. Buns are soft and sweet (but definitely not soggy!), fried chicken is tender and not greasy, and the side dishes!!! We didn't even have time to take pictures, because we really couldn't wait to dig in. Well done, Down-N-Out!
We had lunch during the week at Down-n-out burger in Penrith. There was no queue and ample seating with buzzers and self service water. We ordered beef burgers, onion rings, tiger fries and peanut butter milkshakes. The burgers were delicious with a soft bun, lettuce, tomato, melted cheese, a juice beef patty, special sauce & condiments. It was so flavourful and one of my favourite burgers I've had lately. The onion rings were light and crisp without the batter overload you can sometimes get. The tiger fries were ok but too much special sauce making the entire item quite salty. With caramelised onion distributed in one little clump, I didn't even taste until we got to the bottom.
The peanut butter shakes are new & great if you have a sweet tooth but put us over the edge with everything else we ordered.
Great pram access and high chairs available. Seating inside and out with booths and tables. Modern decor and very neat. System to pick up orders was a bit clunky but didn't put us out.
Southern Fried Chicken - was very delicious. Not the best chicken burger but definitely one of the top ones. Chicken itself is large, crispy and very tender inside. Other parts of the burger lacked flavour.
Wagyu Single Burger - patty was medium cooked. Very saucy. I say it was very delicious.
Chips - the sauce is sweet and actually goes well with the chips.
Overall, average. Thought the poke burgers were around but unfortunately not.
Customer service was eh...

Welcome to the latest hipster burger magnet located out the back of the crusty Sir John Young Hotel. It was pleasing to see a sign stating that the 'Pokeburgers' were sold out for the day. Good, less hipsters for my visit. The 'tiger style' fries (a knockoff of In-N-Out's 'animal style' fries) were deliciously unhealthy. Burger price was a total rort but they were decent quality.

I saw all the hype on Instagram over the pokeburgers and made sure to get there right on 11:30 when it opened. The line was fairly large. Took about 15 minutes to order and I was disappointed that you got the Pokemon you were given and couldn't select it. They were $15 and you could also buy sides like jalepeno poppers and tempura onion rings - though I gave those a miss. I ordered double meat and bacon on my burger and waited for it to arrive. Made friends with some people next to me who got chamanader and pikachu. Pikachu was super cute and had little corn chips for ears. They thought their burger was delicious with a tangy Sauce. I got mine about 20 minutes later (they used the buzzer system for collection) and my Pokemon was balbusaur with brocolli on top. It was a dyed green burger with lettuce, onion, cheese, a really nice meat patty and crispy bacon. Basically a fancier version of a hamburger. But I loved it - tasted delicious. I recommend getting yourself down there (It's in the Sir John Young hotel) and catching yourself some Pokemon.
These guys just dropped the biggest hit since Britney accidently did it again! POKEBURGERS!!! 😍 I got the charmander which is kind of nachos inspired. Can't wait to try em all lol

If you want a great burger, this is the place to come. not much variety, and not a lot of frills. but they taste awesome. Great quality ingredients.

Down-N-Out has to be one of the cheekiest pop-ups to hit Sydney. Euphemistically labelling itself as a tribute to American fast food cult In-N-Out, there's an unabashed synchronicity between both menus, including a "secret menu" that is a distinct trademark of the original. When the real In-N-Out popped up in Sydney (twice), locals started queueing at 6am for the midday opening.
