Love the food, wide range to choose from, super affordable and fresh. Dont know how can they do it in such a centre location, but it is awesome!!!
Ordered the kimchi wagyu bowl!! The wagyu was so yummy & the rice was well cooked. Just wished there was a bit more kimchi! Super affordable & fast.
This place is perfect for a quick feed. You order at the counter, grab your tray and by the time you move down the aisle, your food is there and ready to go. I ordered rice with a gravy sauce and cheese which was nice but I wish there was more beef! Great value for money however :) Will definitely be back to try more!
I like the flavour of the teriyaki chicken rice bowl. The price is good for the portion too. Staff are nice and do a good job of cleaning the tables. Sometime my chicken is a bit too burnt for my liking which makes it dry. It does get busy and is hard to find seats. Take away is a good option too. Would recommend and come back.
Fast and prompt service at this place. Food is pretty good. It would have been better if the taste is less salty. Salad and miso soup is highly recommended to have. Overall, enjoyable experience.
Nice and affordable foods!
Right next to the extremely popular Mappen Udon Noodle Restaurant is the Oiden Rice Bowl Restaurant, in the odd little Skyview Shopping Plaza, just down from the George Street Cinemas and up from 3 Wise Monkeys bar. It’s simple, quick and tasty. Being completely indecisive, the option of three small bowls, for the same cost as one large bowl, was appealing.
While travelling in Sydney...... cheap, quality, tasty and promptly served rice bowls. The roast wagyu beef bowls were a clear stand out and nothing I have tried before. The beef was cooked perfectly, still blush and tender. Worth a visit!
They have the best Japanese curry I have ever had in Sydney! Menu range is wide and novel while covering the classic options. Meals come super fast and it was so good when you just need to eat well quickly. Xihuahua 🐶 finally showed some good taste haha!
A place I frequently visit. It's good value, fast, and tastes good too. Due to the fast pace of the restaurant, you just eat and get out. Not really somewhere to linger and chat with others.
😮 wow!
Fast 💨 plentiful 🍛 yummy 😋 convenient
Ontama now it’s my favourite way of presenting eggs! Ontama really goes with rice and beef! Yummy! Stirring the ontama, mixing it with beef and rice, combined with ginger slices, fantastic!
Now, it’s my first choice of grabbing one quick bite in the city!!!
a place i can’t help but always eat at! extremely kind to your wallet for a satisfying meal. it is rare to find meals that can cost less than $5 in sydney these days so my friends and i were pleasantly surprised.
the curries and plain beef rice bowls are very enjoyable for me.
the staff are nice enough and provide fast service so you never have to wait too long. also can take-away if that’s what you want.
Really affordable place to eat good Japanese food. The service is fast and the staff are friendly. There's seating inside and out and it's located in the plaza, surrounded by other similar eateries. Highly recommend it for those looking for a cheap feed that'll keep you full for long.
I’ve always been here since university days and their quality of rice bowls never disappoint. I ordered the new dish Ontama Teriyaki Chicken with half boiled egg in regular size $8.90. The chicken was so soft and tender and the rice is flavoured with some seaweed. The egg was served cold, I wished it was warm. Cheap and delicious feed is hard to come by in the city. Definitely recommend this place!
Cheap food at its best! Oiden offers a very cafeteria like atmosphere and is a great place to bring a group of friends. The food is simple and cheap and although it is not mind blowing Japanese food it is very basic and quick. I’d highly recommend coming here if you are after a quick cheap feed which doesn’t disappoint.
Cheap, Quick and Affordable.
This place is great to get cheap meals in CBD, they have other variaties of other kind of food including Matcha Milk tea. Unfortunately I didn't take a picture of the menu but I think the food is great for price.
Since we "stumbled" upon the gelato shop in SkyView shopping, I've always wanted to go back and try out some of the restaurants in the building. So resto pick is Oiden. It is that restaurant that greets you once you enter the building. Menu is extensive Japanese cuisine. Specializing in rice bowls. They have this promo where you can choose 3 mini bowls for the price of $9.90. Great deal! Plus I get to try almost all of what they serve. We had, the chili pork, chicken karage, pork katsu, curry, salmon and chicken teriyaki. I like the chicken karage the most. The servings are enough to make you feel full after finishing half of the second bowl. Ordering was not difficult, you get to point at the menu at the counter. Seating are available inside the shop as well as outside. It could get busy during lunch time.
Oh the grilled teriyaki chicken here is pretty yummy in my opinion. There’s the char taste that I’m always after with grilled teriyaki. Sides are a great addition too. Prices are reasonable. I will definitely be back to try out some wagyu.
Is a must to visit whenever we go to city. Husband’s MUST order is always the double wagyu beef bowl. But that was too much for me as I prefer more vege rather than meat. Overall, good price and great food!!!
Best Best Best! really one of the best restaurants in town. The price is reasonable (mostly below 10AUD). Some people may criticize insufficient space and a lack of vegetarian options, however, its food quality, serving speed, friendliness of the staff are marvelous.
We went there because it was close to Event Cinemas and we wanted a quick meal before the movies. This place doesn't look like much but it exceeded my expectations. The wagyu beef bowl for less than a tenner was incredible. The beef was very tender and marinated perfectly. It was delicious without being crazy salty or the marinade being too overpowering. And the beef wasn't overcooked as it can be at some Japanese places. Cheap and cheerful but the meal didn't taste cheap. I'll be going back!
One of the best japaness food in the city. I like it so much because they provide wide range of japaness food with some cheap price, definitely will be recommended
Had the Premium BBQ Wagyu Beef Bowl, shrimp tempura and matcha milk tea. Everything was very satisfying and affordable! Good food for the whole family. Kids can order the small stewed beef or teriyaki chicken bowl at $3.90.
Oiden is one of my favorite places in the city because of its cheap and delicious food.
***
Location:
It’s walking distance from Town Hall station, right beside Meriton Kent Street.
Food:
Their $9.90 plain BBQ wagyu beef is the best! When I’m really hungry, I order the Double BBQ Wagyu beef, or I throw in a side of the shrimp sticks or their takoyaki.
Service:
The line’s always long during rush hour but it’s a quick wait. There are a lot of seats should you choose to dine in.
***
I’m giving Oiden a full 5 rating because it’s spot on for value-for-money quick-service Japanese food.
So far so good. Cheap price and staff explains menu friendly. It will be so cool if you work nearby and grab their bowl for lunch. I had teriyaki but will try another one next time.
By far my favorite Jap resto in CBD! I love the plain beef bowl. The regular bowl has a generous serving that I was already struggling to finish.
The beef curry was delish too. I always eat here whenever I’m in CBD
A great place for cheap and quick eats. The staff are always polite and friendly and I've been visiting for years now. I love their cheese beef bowl
I’ve been coming here for years and the staff is always polite and friendly, always welcoming! Food is very cheap and most of all delicious! I love their ontama salmon and it’s paired well with their potato salad and fried fish!
This is a really nice place for a quick meal. There a large number of rice bowls available which makes choosing rather hard. I really like how you can choose sides as well like taoyaki and karage chicken. I had the teriyaki chicken rice bowl with the ontama egg which was really nice. The egg is definitely a must order!!
Really enjoyed the potato salad and curry croquette from here. Tartar dressing was alright, though a tad too salty. The meal was pretty nice and filling overall.
Decent place for cheap Japanese eats if you’re by yourself or with a friend. Very fast-paced kind of dining environment so not ideal for a medium to large group.
Good for a quick lunch.
So tasty and cheap. Love their wagyu beef bowl. It’s grilled to perfection. Other yummy menu items include the beef hayashi and the raw salmon rice.
Came back to this place after numerous times during my uni days. It's still cheap and tasty. Went for the ontama beef bowl this time, the egg is perfectly runny, The beef and sauce has not changed and goes with the rice excellently. Regular is definitely enough if you're not especially hungry.
The shrimp stick is surprisngly good. Great atmosphere and value.
Sometimes I forget Oiden is there because more often than not I go to Mappen next door. this place is pretty good too, though the service is a tad slower than its noodle counterpart. You get to pick your main dish and then load up on your choice of sides Like takoyaki or a pork cutlet. The prices are roughly the same as Mappen and the food quality is good. Definitely worth coming for a quick meal if you love rice based dishes.
Quick. Casual. Cheap. We had the ontama salmon and plain terriyaki chicken with separate side dishes including takoyaki, potato and fried tofu. Good value and chilled environment to hang out. Wendy Wang
Ordered large teriyaki chicken, but is is not very large.
The pork loin and takoyaki are quite cheap.
The pork loin is crispy though have been cold.
Cheap, fast and quick meal 🍛 !! Came here after a long day in the city, I was STARVING, but the portions here filled me up quickly ☺️ My friends and I all ordered large meals with one side, and we struggled to finish it !!
🍛 the mood here is very relaxed and chill, playing Korean music in the background
🍛 the service was done in an assembly line, so you can always add extra to your meal
Overall, a great place to eat if you're looking for something cheap.
Great Value. Speedy service self service. Wouldn't recommend it for a "Dine out" experience however it is perfect for anyone in a rush. I really enjoyed their special deals where you can try a few dishes for around 10 dollars.
Firstly I don't think their salmon was fresh
But
I always get the 3 dishes for $9.90, and for that price, AND for being in the CBD I was completely satisfied. I actually couldn't finish my food and just gave it to my brother to finish. Very delicious, fast service, friendly japanese staff
They also have self serve extremely cold water 👍👍👍
Nice small & cute cozy place for a quick lunch 😊
-Very cheap, authentic & tasty Japanese
-Impressively fast service
-Lots of options
-Yummy teriyaki chicken & curry
-Nice & cheap sides like crab claw & prawn stick
The service was really quick and nice. Three small dishes for 9.9 is really good for first timer to find out what you like. Half boiled egg was softer than I thought, but the egg yolk was perfect. Rice was good quality.
so i ate like 3 servings of ice cream before this bowl of katsu udon and it literally brought me back to life. i needed more soup tbh... i had more than half the noodles leftover, the side of kimchi ws :-/ and the katsu obv got soggy bt whatever, it ws still good.
This place has quick service and a decent variety of rice dishes and side dishes. Their menu is cheap and super affordable for a restaurant in the city, making it a great place to eat at any time during the day or night.
Out of all the times my group and I visited, the venue was busy and full but waiting time in line and waiting for a table to clear up worked out well so we always had a spot to eat at inside.
I enjoy testing out each menu item and I mainly get either the beef or chicken rice dishes since the quality of some of the other dishes (like the sashimi one) aren't as good.
Overall, this Japanese restaurant is definitely fitting for small groups of people or individuals, but may be tough to find seats for large groups who want to sit together. (*^▽^*)
One of the most price-worthy Japanese fast food shop. Really cheap price(almost the cheapest I have ever seen).
If you spent $5 you get a bowl of rice, which is suitable for dinner if you don't feel like starving but still want to eat something.
The restaurant is small with limited seats, however, I didn't wait too long for a seat. Because they made food quickly and people just eat hurriedly as well.
[Ontama Kara-Age]
Rice as base, salad in the middle, and fried chicken at the top. I love their half-cooked egg. It tastes perfect to mix with rices.
[PLAIN Curry]
Nothing but curry and rice. I would recommend you to add $1~2 for beef, chicken and so on.
Located within a plaza between to PepperLunch and Lord of the Fries, this place is great for cheap quick tasty meals. You can get 3 mini bowls, hence try different things for 9.90. Might be hard to find a table for large groups but great for individuals.
Wanted to go to another place in the SkyView Shopping Plaza, but it was shut due to renovations so chose to go to Oiden instead.
Read that someone had taken the Ontama Vegetarian bowl ($7.90) with a side of takoyaki ($2), which sounded good, but also was one of the few vegetarian options (I usually ask whether the meat is free range, but wasn't game enough to ask that here). Normally wouldn't go for unsustainably caught fish either, but the takoyaki looked tempting so I tried anyway.
This was definitely enough for lunch for me and for a reasonable price. The Vegetarian bowl contained way too much rice compared to actual ingredients though, so no surprise they can make it so cheap. When I ate all the goodies at the top, there was just dry rice left in the bowl. It filled me up, but it was heavy on the stomach.
Found it quite an exciting lunch, since I had never had something like this before, but I wouldn't go again.
Great cheap and yummy japanese restaurant! It tastes authentically japanese. I had plain karage, the chicken on rice and it was fantastic only $7.50 for large size. Admittedly large size isnt so big but it is enough to fill the stomach.
I find it is hard to find cheap food in sydney cbd and glad to have found this one. I am coming back to this place again for sure. I recommend trying meat based rice dishes and not salmon (it was just some weird kind of grinded salmon paste, not fresh salmon) and sitting out side benches of the restaurant in summer as there is no air conditioning.
*Special thanks to Washoku Lovers for inviting me to this event and to Kayla for being such a lovely host. Special mentions to @forknchopsticks and @kimmiebites, it was lovely to meet you. . Located centrally within the city is a small little food haven of Japanese cuisine. There are three small restaurants that each have a unique take on their menu and food style.
one of my personal favorite place to get some rice dishes. it super cheap but the quality of the food is not too bad. They make it super quick so you dont have to wait, it's like a fast food japanese style. Alway my top choice when hanging out with friend.
Oiden is a convenient and affordable Japanese restaurant that offers decent food at an amazing price. We ordered the regular Ontama Terriyaki bowl ($6.90) and the regular Ontama Vegetarian bowl ($7.90) with a side of takoyaki ($2). All were filling and tastes good. The only downside is that all food is preprepared and so with the sides especially, they tend to dry out a bit. Other than that, at less than $10 for a meal, this place is a great treasure in terms of dining in the city.
Services : 3.0 staff members sometimes are rude sometimes unfriendly
Payment : 2.0 Cash Only
Food Choices : 5.0
Price : 4.5 quite cheap
Cleanliness : 2.5 sometimes little bit dirty including the cutlery
Quality of food : 5.0 mostly the ingredient are made in Japan
There are lots of options at Skyview food court but it's Japanese for me! Oiden specializes in rice bowls - we sampled the double BBQ wagyu beef bowl, salmon & ontama egg and the garlic butter teriyaki chicken. All the meats were of good quality and the dishes came out quickly. For a rice lover this place is heaven. For something different try the matcha milk drinks. We tried the mochi balls filled with red bean for dessert and they were very nice. I especially liked the black mochi balls - which are covered in sesame. This place is exactly what you are looking for when you walk into this food court - good quality, fresh and tasty meals at a reasonable price
The Epic BEEF TOWER: thinly sliced ribbons of Roasted Beef with Japanese Mayonnaise, Mustard, Cabbage and Rice🍗🍛🍖

This is a new addition to Oiden's menu, soo new in fact it's off the menu!😉 The roast beef is deliciously tender and juicy. The mustard adds a zingy tang and the whole egg mayonnaise is creamy adding extra flavour to the roast beef. Served ontop of rice it makes a hearty meal but not too heavy. Get your beef tower on👉🏽 @oidencbd 💖👏🏽💖 big Arigatō gozaimasu to @washokulovers for inviting us for a Japanese feast
Located on George Street near the cinemas, I came here before I was meeting some friends for drinks.
I would nearly always go to Menya Mappen next door as I love eating their udon but this time round I tried something different. Like next door, it is self service so order at the counter and make sure you pick up a black tray to collect your food on. Pick up any drinks you want before ordering your food as well. You can then select from their hot food station to add any extras if a bit more ravenous. Service is polite and efficient.
I went with Ontama Teriyaki Chicken Bowl, and Curry Croquette. You can choose between having a regular and large bowl as well. The chicken was tasty and had a nice flavour to it. Rice was well seasoned with the sauce. The egg could've been cooked slightly longer as very runny. The croquette had a nice crunch and nice potato filling.

We were lucky to be invited to try this outlet again and we were not disappointed. A wonderful evening to try a range of food. The highlight was the Double BBQ Wagyu Beef Bowl. Lovely slices of marinated beef over a bowl of rice. So simple but so tasty! The Garlic Butter Teriyaki Chicken was tender and flavoursome.
The Next Rush Thewhereto Coffeebrunchanddinner Krit
Seeing the poster: '3 bowls for $9.90'- Definitely triggered every gluttonous nerve in my body. We already had dinner plans, but found ourselves being lured in by this inexpensive deal.
The food was definitely satisfying and flavourful, however made in bulk. I found my chicken katsu very tough and dry, like it's been under the food warmer for a while. Aside from that, everything else was great. Unfortunately, i wasn't familiar with the cafeteria-like organization of the place- i found myself (and Dean ) holding up the line, and having no cash on hand (CASH ONLY!!!). On the contrary, the staff were definitely patient and helpful- so we'll definitely be back.
One of my favourite Japanese restaurant in the city.
Reasonable prices and pretty friendly staff.
Their soft boiled eggs are amazing, love their curry and hash beef XO
One of my most trusted places to head for a quick feed after a late night work at the client. This cafiteria styled Jap restaurant boasts some of the best ratios for quality to price. The regular plain karaage chicken rice bowl for $6.9 is one of the best value for money ratio I have come across for Jap food. The curry dishes are also recommended for about $10ish.
Definitely recommended for work people who need a burst of food energy, for a quick price and extremely efficient speed of delivery of food. Look no further than Oiden (coming from eating there at least 20 times)!
Popped in for a quick bite before a screening of the shark movie the shallows. A Japanese diner set up similar to mappen, just as cheap and no alcohol. I ordered the wagyu beef bowl with ontama egg a cheap simple and tasty meal. It had a few nice slices of Wagyu, some pickles on top of rice with teriyaki sauce on the side. I also had a takoyaki skewer which had 3 fried octopus croquet/dumplings. I some times refer to these as lava balls. Be cautious when eating straight out of the fryer, as I found out in Japan. Thankfully they were not that hot this time. Perfect for a quick and cheap meal.
Eat here all the time. I love the "Healthy Bowls". I usually grab the takoyaki and curry croquette but the only problem with the takoyaki is that it's soft, not with that nice takoyaki crunch.
The curry is amazing and the katsu is good.
It's very well priced and good quality considering how cheap it is
We love Oiden's mini sized bowls! It means you can try lots of the menu items and flavours without getting too full. The cheap prices keep us coming back for more, and the fast service system means it's perfect for when you're in a rush. Can't go past grabbing some cute mochi for dessert either, one of the best places in Sydney to get it!
Decent food for a good price considering it is on George St. The sauce and the side of ginger were delicious. However, there was very little beef in my portion. The rice was also not well made, quite dry and unsticky compared to the usual Japanese rice.

The food is excellent and very affordable. Simple and easy to follow menu. Please take into account that since this a a Japanesse restaurant, they do not offer knives nor forks. I went at 1:30 pm and it was full, so I'd suggest to go either earlier or later.
A small little Japanese eatery with cheap meals and quick service. Great range of menu options catering to all tastes at very affordable prices. Food is great in quality and flavour too! Would definitely recommend. We chose the 3 options for $9.90:. Everything tastes better on a skewer! Generous with the sauce and bonito flakes. Would’ve liked more octopus inside but great flavour and texture. 7.5/10
Pick and choose rice bowls. So good! Very fresh. The Waugh beef double is the bomb! Will come back for sure next time! It's inside a shopping complex but it's busy as.
Rice bowl Ninja!!!
Quick simple lunch at Oiden which specialise in Rice bowls (donburi) ranging from meat, fried, seafood and curry. Each rice bowl will suit all taste buds.
Get a poach egg with your rice and have some fried sides for good measure haha #eggporn 😂😂😂
Until next time .... Keep eating !!!

I have been going to Oiden almost every month for the last few years. It never disappoints. Fresh, authentic and moderately priced. I never tend to stray too much from my fave which is the Ontama Salmon bowl, with a couple of pieces of Kara age, Seaweed Salad and Japanese Potato salad. That will fill me up for a whole afternoon and the price for all of that is just around $20. I have tried similar dishes in Japan and Oiden is just as good as the real thing. The staff are always friendly, the restaurant is clean, but the only (minor) downside is in the summer time it can get very warm in there from the Kitchen and not much air conditioning.
Great poor man's food. Very cheap and satisfying. The grilled teriyaki chicken bowl plus ontama is always a goto. The gyudon also tastes very right.

The thing is I love karaage. And this place has the most beautiful karaage I've ever tasted. I've yet to try the others so I'll be back soon!! Shoutout for being affordable for uni students!!!!
Looking for a quick service, cheap and cheerful restaurant in the CBD? Look no further than Oiden Bowl Bar. As the restaurant names suggests the base of the dishes are rice topped with choices like BBQ wagyu beef, stewed or hashed beef, chicken kara-age, curries and, salmon. You can mix it up and top your bowl with kimchi or my all time favourite, an ontama (a soft gooey boiled egg).
Ordered the karaage chicken bowl and one stick of takoyaki, both for $8.90 - bargain! Often my go to place for a quick feed in the cbd. Would definitely recommend.
Also had regular sized tartare karaage for $8.9. Potato salad at a buck each. Nothing to fault. Come once theyr open to guarantee yourself fresh food.
Cheap, fast and good. What's not to love?! The noodle place next door is probably better but that's only because I prefer noodle. If you have no money and you find yourself stuck in the city with a few hungry mates - drag them here and save yourself the misery of wailing into a flat wallet after a night out.
I love how speedy the service here at Oiden is. They always have sensational deals for lunch and my favourite would be the $9.9 deal that comes with 3 dishes of your choice. The only downside is that the shop is quite small and I often find myself waiting for a table while holding my tray of food. Nonetheless, this is my go to place when I want to satisfy my cravings for Japanese curry.
