Came in for breakfast on the fourth day. Tried the large latte, sausage roll nad mushrooms on toast. The sausage roll had a side of kumara crisps and those were so delicious. You should honestly just order the sausage roll for the crisps. Even the mushrooms on toast were fancy. There were a few different high quality mushrooms on the toast served with a variety of delicious greens. The only fault I reckon, was the ciabatta toast. Toast was real hard but became soggy from all the sauce. Not sure if it would've tasted better hard or soggy with sauce.
Your coffee game better be strong if you’re in Surry Hills and I’m glad to report that Toast puts up a fine Campos coffee. Considering the early morning takeaway coffee queue, there wasn’t much of a wait at all for my dine-in cappuccino. The spacious cafe also has a nice vibe, with attentive and friendly service.
I accidentally found this cafe. Due to another famous cafe (across the road) was fully booked. But this is very surprising me...It’s such a nice vibe. With various of brekky dishes menu and also lunch too. They’d got a very good coffee beans from Campos. Which is very aromatic tasty. Price is on an average and reasonable. Food quality was so great too. I definitely be back here again for sure.
Coffee powered by campos, a good name for quality coffee.
Well, $3.50 was the damages for a cup of Piccolo, and I think the price is very competitive around this area.
It was busy when I came, then again it’s around lunch time.
Menu Altogether is very modern and lots of healthy options, such as poached chicken and tuna as option for your protein on your salad.
Visually you can see the pre made salad on the counter cold display windows, so you know what you gettin.
Muffin flavour is also very interesting, and they are freshly baked.
I had a meetup happening in the NSW Teachers Federation Building, which is pretty much the same building and above Toast Cafe. We had left home early in the morning, with toddler in tow, and after getting into town, we hunted for somewhere to find breakfast.
Since Toast Cafe was convenient to the location, we thought we'd give it a try.
The staff were friendly in bringing out cups of water for us as soon as we had seated, along with the menu. After a quick look, my wife and I both chose to have the Toast Breakfast, but my wife had a Green juice and myself an iced coffee. While they didn't have a babycino listed, we asked and they said they did make them, and brought one out for us too.
Drinks came out first, my ice coffee sadly had icecream in it as they had run out of whipped cream (a little strange I thought since it wasn't that late in the day (10am) and you would ave thought it wasn't something you'd normally want to run out of either at a cafe serving iced drinks during summer... right? Other than that, it was not too bad, reasonable amount of icecream, some icecubes, and the shot of coffee was still swirling around. I didn't try the green juice but my wife didn't seem to say anything negative about it, and our daughter enjoyed the babycino immensely, ending up with chocolate powder all over her face.
When the breakfasts came out, I was very impressed. A great sized dish, well presented, and the dishes were warm. Two slices of crusty bread with a good triangle of butter. A good sized half chizoro sliced, a very generous serving of mushrooms, a whole grilled tomato, two rashers of bacon, two slices of haloumi, two eggs (mine scrambled, wife's sunny side up), a good portion of spinach complemented the rest of the dish. The eggs were a little firmer than I have had elsewhere, could have been fluffier but I could not fault them really. The spinach cooked well, soft but not sloppy, and the haloumi grilled excellently so the outside was browned but the inside still soft, without the hard dried overcooked squeak. The mushrooms were still firm with bounce and very juicey, which complimented the springy bacon.
Everything came with a smile, and the quality and quantity was superb for the price. In regards to the loss of the half-point, it was a split of not having whipped cream, and also the eggs being a bit on the flat side, but definitely excellent value. Would definitely come here for breakfast again if I was in the area.
Friendly staff. Modern decorations and furniture. Lovely food. Love Halumi cheese in the big breakfast. Great coffee. Definitely will come back later.

My favorite place for coffee in Surrey Hills. The staff are lovely - friendly and very attentive. Fantastic service every day, and consistently good coffee. The lunch menu is pretty tasty too.
Been here for a Saturday breakfast. The place is quite spacious and the staff are very friendly and attentive. I do find the menu is a bit limited with choices. Wanted to try the burger but we were in before 11am and can't have that ordered. So,we ended up having the morrocan breakfast with add on bacon and a fresh toast ? which is on the special menu. The morrocan breakfast is pretty good especially the lemon garlic potato. Love the taste of the seasoning on the well roasted fluffy potatoes. The fresh on toast which came with smoke salmon ,cottage cheese, avo and eggs is a bit ordinary despite the nice presentation. Toast is certainly a good cafe that worth coming for.
Great little spot in Surrey Hills.
Popped in for breakfast and tired their Mexican breakfast & Brekky Roll, all of which were delicious. Service was quick, with a smile and I'd love to go back for a bite.
Great cafe in the heart of Surry Hills on Resevoir St. The menu has all the favorites but with some nice twists & they use Campos beans here.
I had the avocado, labneh & sumac on sourdough ($10.50) and a soy cappuccino ($4.50). The service was great & the staff really friendly.the food was well made & presented & coffee decent! I would reccomend this place for sure!
This place is very congenial. There's lots of competition on this corner and they are all good in their own way. For mine the Moroccan is the best breakfast going.
Beef brisket, special offer of the day. $9
•Toasted milk bun is really soft, light and fluffy. But the bad thing is sometime u can't even feel there are buns.
•The beef is brilliant indeed, for me. It gets a bit of spicy in it which makes it tastes less fatty cause there are a good amount of fat. And it has a rich flavour and good texture. Well done!
•The lettuces are just normal lettuces but they do help the burger taste fresher and not heavy as it could be.
Good dining environment but the chairs are bit wiggly hh
Overall, not bad.
Toast cafe! Nice name! I was pretty hungry that afternoon, and the name prompted me to head in!
This is a pretty large place, with a good ambiance and lot of seating. It also has a sophisticated look and feel to it. I was attended to be a friendly waiter, who patiently explained the available vegetarian options to me (since the menu did not specifically mark them as vegetarian). I ended up ordering the Roast Pumpkin sandwich, with panini bread.
The sandwich looked small, but boy, was it filling! And not to mention, totally DELICIOUS! I'll go as far as saying that this is among the best sandwiches I have had in Sydney! At $11.50, it may seem slightly overpriced, but considering the quality and the general ambiance of the place, the pricing is just right!
I would love to come back here again!

A little go getter in my opinion, slides under the radar and does quite well in the food department.
Well presented and executed food with a service and staff to go with it.
Probably one of the best cafes in Surry Hills. Great menu, fast service, excellent customer service, waiters are friendly but not annoying, very consistent. Moroccan breakfast is the bomb. So many other places miss the mark with being either too wanker-hipster, terrible service, overpriced and stingy. Toast is NOT one of them.
30/4/16 I have no idea why it's so hard for other cafes in Sydney to provide good service, totally tasty food with lots of options for different diets, at a reasonable price, but for some reason they find it impossible. They need to come down to Toast and learn a lesson.
I'm happy to find this lovely cafe in Surry Hills by chance. It's light and airy. I do love the ambience and cute deco. We don't have like this in Japan!
(at least I haven't seen like this cute cafe)
I had brekkie here. It was tasty. I like the coffee here too. Iced latte surved with cutie glass!haha
Had a Ricotta Muffin for dessert.haha Not too sweet and lots of berries inside! Yumyum.
Lovely home made soy chai latte.. The waiter was vey friendly and helpful. The homemade biscotti for $1 ... Will be back for more. Thanks!!!!!
Consistently enjoyable experience. Great service and an interesting variety of breakfast options. Lunches range from healthy salads to winter-warning pies. Good selection of sweets to complement smooth, rich coffees. A popular spot which could benefit from having one extra staff member in the floor at busy periods.
Great service, great coffee, great food, I was looking for another restaurant and happened upon this little gem, lucky me. Generous portions and complementary flavours. I had corn fritters with haloumi and avocado. Thank you!
Just another relaxing day. We stopped by at Toast Cafe at Surry Hills before the Man went to check out the Herringbone warehouse. I remember passing by this place several times but never had a chance to try it out til now. It's located close to Central station, across from Single Origin Roasters. The secret garden-like interior makes this place a haven among the urban jungle. The windows are open from one wall to the other, letting in cool breezes and fresh air. It also provides an open space for you to enjoy your meal and coffee. Menu. Little details like this makes the difference.
YUM. Best bircher muesli I have ever tasted no joke. Great service also.
I keep coming back. Toast can get pretty busy and that's a good sign. This cafe is one of my favourites. I often order a green juice and goats cheese and red pepper tart which comes with a good sized salad and sweet potato chips. Good coffee too.
Pretty good food + coffee here, I ordered the last muffin available which seemed to be an issue with one of the waitresses there. Relaxing and quiet vibe too.
I had breakfast here this morning and couldn't really fault it. Service was attentive without being full on. My dish of Corn Fritters etc was amazing. Definitely will visit again!
Great service. Nice & quick. Green eggs & ham was nice.
The coffee is great and the green eggs . and ham terrific. happy friendly staff, always stop here when I'm Sydney
Superb GF brekkie. Coming from the Sunny Coast we were in a rush to find a decent cafe that does free range eggs-not only do these guys do great eggs but they had a gluten free brekkie all by itself on the menu-and it was divine! Really enjoyed not having to ask for GF toast or quiz them on their egg buying morals :) The Moroccan breakfast was also excellent, Coffee was v tasty and waiter friendly-a super cafe with a kick ass menu!
Great food, friendly staff. Have been to Toast many times. The food's great, with a mix of standard fare and unusual items. Simple things like the bircher are done extremely well, with cinnamon-cooked rhubarb adding some zing. The staff have always been friendly with us; the worst that could be said is they've occasionally been a bit slow when they were short staffed.
Great for breakfast, but coffee is expensive. I had a good breakfast here, the croque madame, but i found the ham in the middle was a bit greyish and looked old. My eggs were overcooked, but still edible (I like poached eggs runny, but not everyone does). It was passable and still tasted good. the coffee was overpriced ($4.30 for soy latte - I normally pay less than $4, but Sydney is more expensive for everything). I would probably not come back here next time, and try another place as there seemed to be lots of options.
Perfectly Poached. This morning finds me in the wonderful city of Sydney. I just love it here. I love living in big cities and Sydney is just that. My fist attempt at reviewing poached eggs hit a little snag. Bill Granger's restaurant Bills is downstairs from my hotel. Perfect I thought. Eggs ahoy. Guess what? No poached eggs to be found. Only soft boiled. I was very disappointed as you could imagine.
Given our busy work schedule, today was the first day I managed to get out for a review. Toast Cafe in Surrey Hills was recommended by our wonderful PR agent, Barbara Messer.
The toast was delicious. It had a wonderful nuttiness to it. Crunchy and chewy all at the same time. The eggs were poached well, fresh and organic, but a little flavourless in my opinion. There was a wonderful sweet chili jam on the side that tasted a little like toffee. Not good with the eggs, but great on my second slice of toast.
Good value for $9.90. All up it was good, but not great. I wouldn't make a special trip just for the eggs.
GF friendly decent food. Went to Toast for Sunday brunch. The place had a really good electric feel to it. The stuff was friendly. The menu does a very good job catering for people who are gluten intolerant, as it clearly marks the gluten free dishes. I had the sweet corn and kaffir fritters served with poached egg, grilled halloumi, avocado & chilli jam (gluten free). It was very satisfying. The fritters were very fresh and light. The chilli jam really accentuated the sweetness of the corn. I personally found the jam to be a little overpowering. As a result, the halloumi was lost in the dish. I would also prefer my fritters to be more crispy and the avocado to be served in a chunky form with a little texture rather than all mashed up. I ordered an extra side of crispy bacon, which provided a nice savory contrast. However, I would order chorizo next time. Overall, the brunch was very enjoyable and I will come back again.
Please sir can i have some more?. I stumbled across the Toast Cafe on a recent trip to Sydney . The first thing to impress me was the attentive , friendly service ,giving the space a relaxed atmosphere ,a pleasant reprieve from the bustle on the street.
The second ; the coffee ! As with all coffee addicts , I need good coffee and am hard to please . You know that first sip ? when you know this coffee is going to satisfy , then you can sit back and enjoy .......Toasts coffee had this....
This would have been enough for me to return .....but wait ...there's more !
I ordered the fritters for breakfast and found the mixture of flavours , kaffir lime and the chilli jam , to be exquisite . The portions were filling and the presentation professional.
I will definitely return
Yummmy. I had late lunch yesterday at toast ,
That beef baguette was divine , and my mum had daily mixed salad she said very fresh and tasty , and coffee was BEST since i have been there , and i had to order take away after my lunch , That new lady barista make amazing coffee,
But service was little bit slow, but well if you go to any busy cafe i think it wasn't too bad,
yumyumyum!
Ollie is a doofus. Dear ollie,
Your review has made me irate... no we do not make specific dishes for idiots that want poached egg "whites"... i would like to hear if you can actually get that any where... actually we charge $9.90 for perfectly poached organic free range eggs (thats 2 ummm whole eggs) served with buttered sonoma toast and home made chilli jam with basil....have you eaten out before you normally order things that are on the menu???
The buttered toast incident: you need to refine your taste buds better complaining that the toast was buttered with salty butter is also incredibly odd as we do not use salted butter and the menu clearly states that the toast comes buttered. this is a request we do take "no butter on the toast" however we do not mind read... as for the jam we use Hanks jam one of Sydney's most popular suppliers so i am afraid wrong again.
Now for the banana bread. this is made in house with organic eggs and the finest ingredients, it is extraordinarily popular selling over 2 loaves a day. If you felt it was old (which it wasn't) then perhaps telling our staff rather than ranting obscenity on the internet would have been more appropriate... please never come back to our cafe as people like you need there head read!!!!!!
Since they changed barista,. I normally go to single for coffee but i had meeting on last wed or T*&* at Toast
i had coffee with muffin
BUT it was really good coffee , and those mandarine muffin s delicious
and better service than before , good !
Great brunch. Tucked down Reservoir Street amongst all those cool little designer shops is this little gem. The Toby's Estate coffee is well-made, service is very good and attentive and the poached egg on the Sweet Corn & Kaffir Lime Fritters was perfection.
If this place was closer I'd probably go more often
Gotta love a place that offers all-day brekky on weekends. Good mix of old favourites like porridge and French toast plus a few more unusual choices like Moroccan and Mexican breakkies. Food was fresh, simple and delicious. Nice place for a Sunday brunch with a couple of friends.
Came gee for Saturday brunch. Nice breakfast. Menu includes all the staples plus some interesting options like Moroccan or Mexican eggs. Great layout; Kota if plants, vines twining up the walls. Nice spot.
Excellent breakfast, organic eggs, freshly sqeezed orange... and a very HOT waiter!
Good coffee and a hot waiter. All you ever really demand from a cafe, delivered.
