Great spot for a German beer, boutique beer or even a wine or cocktail. We were here to watch a boxing match and they dealt with the crowd well. Plenty of food on the menu too, pretzels, burgers, schnitzels and even make your own salads.
Food: 4/5 stars. Very tasty. Had the kielbasa sausages which tasted great and perfectly cooked, we loved it, one $20 plate came with three medium sized sausages and pickled sides. Buffalo Chicken wings were decent/ok, I liked the spicy sauce and side of carrots/celery, but some pieces had broken bones which were sharp so be careful when biting into it, also the wing pieces had little meat with mostly skin, but the flavors were great and chicken was cooked well. Mac and cheese balls for entree were good, nice and hot in temperature with melted cheese when biting into it, but balls were a little too small. The light beer made with half lemonade was delicious and perfect.
Unfortunately we didn’t like the apple strudel (1/5 stars), it was soggy and tasted too saucy, and the side ice cream was very icy rather than creamy.
Vibe: beautiful decor and loved the friendly casual vibe, restaurant was big with high ceiling and very beautifully decorated, had an open flow floor plan which I loved. we had a fun dinner. Unfortunately I didn’t like how the music was too loud. The music consisted of live music and non-live music. Both were soooo loud which hurt my ears and also made it difficult to have a conversation without shouting.
Price: slightly expensive but they have lots of great happy hour deals for food/drinks so it makes the price affordable after the discounts. FYI: I saw their poster showing their Monday deal of 10cents buffalo wings when any drink is purchased, that sounds like an amazing deal!
Service: 4/5 stars. Excellent cuz Very friendly. but hard to flag down a server.....they seem under staffed on a Saturday night.
Conclusion: would love to come back , but am concern about the music being too loud.
I seem to come back here again and again. Nothing like a Schnitzel that tastes exactly like mum used to make! The sides were delicious. Highly recommend the dessert pretzel too. I was so full by the end of it all but I could not stop eating. Yummy!
My first time at Bavarian and it was so delicious! Loved the pork crackling, range of delicious German sausages and the sauces on the ribs and chicken wings were so good. From the dip board the pesto sauce was the best pesto I’ve ever had! I didn’t enjoy the pretzel - should’ve gotten more servings of the pork crackling baos instead (so good). Mango beer was not amazing as everyone hypes it up to be, I think normal beer might even taste better.

Super nice and chill place 👍🏻💥
Best pork knuckle ever! The mashed potato is awesome and you can share it with 2 other people. Sausage platter is tasty too, though the sausage is a bit too salty for me.
Pretzels are nice appetizer!
And ofc, the beer is a must here.
Food comes around 15-20 mins.
Made a booking here via dimmi, been to a german restaurant before but this one is surprisingly meat heaven! Ordered the All you can meat 'Wednesday Promo' platter for $35 each, Pork Schnitzel and Munich Platter. Fully loaded meat, Crispy pork belly and pork knuckle tastes amazingly cripsy, sausages are fantastic, the schnitzel are perfect, the red cabbage is a bit sour for me, but it was really fun and cosy.
The place is a bit loud, we had to scream to talk to each other, but why not blend in with the atmosphere. Sat there for 3 hours and had our tummy really full...
Customer service was awesome, everyone was friendly especially Miriam, a german girl who just worked there for 1 week. Amazing experience.
Great place to have beers and meat with mates! I always go for the tasting platter as I can have a little bit of all the amazing options available. The pork belly on its own is a good option as well.
I enjoy the Blonde beer they have, because it's not too heavy and goes down well with a big meal.
I was very surprised at the quality and authenticity of the food. Very picky about German food having spent a few years there, but the Bavarian Bier Cafe does a great job with their menu items. It's wursts and schnitzel, but well executed with good sides. The portions are huge, we split a single plate of the Bavarian sampler and were defeated by the magnitude of the food. It could have been easily shared by one or two more people so bring friends. The beer selection is good and they have Haufbrau Dunker on tap, so extra points for that. Recommend for a leisurely evening or afternoon of food and drink. Prost!
Good German place in Sydney city.
Nice selection of beers
Spacious place with a small outdoor seating
Good onion rings and squid
Nice staff.
Loud & busy - service was patchy but generally good for a busy Saturday evening.
Good range of food & drinks both German flavoured (naturally) and complimented with other varieties of food and drinks for the less adventurous. A little irritating that the first 3 items we tried to order were "no long on the menu" but with a lot to chose from it wasn't a show-stopper.
We chose to share the Mac & Cheese balls, the Pork Bao buns and the Hummus & Dip platter for starters - generous portions. For Mains, I had the sausage tasting platter - great mix of sausage types (portion was quite large & I didn't finish it all) and the sauerkraut was cooked to perfection.
This restaurant is located on York Street. We were here for a function so a set menu was in play. The service here was pretty good.
We begun with a Haus Made Pretzel. It was served lovely and warm. Nice, fluffy, and salted. Great with butter.
The mains alternated between Crispy 1/2 Pork Knuckle or Crispy Chicken Schnitzel. The pork had very crunchy crackling on it. It was on a bed of sauerkraut and mashed potato. Some apple was served with it. The chicken was a good portion and came with a potato salad. There was an option of Mozzarella Ravioli if you wanted a vegetarian option.
Classic Apple Strudel rounded off the meal. It was okay. Served with anglaise and whipped cream.

What can I say an amazing place really good food amazing pork dishes amazing Snitz really good shots amazing quality beers food is always up to scratch staff are really friendly and always quick to respond to what you want
Had an enjoyable experience at Bavarian Bier Cafe. Great for large groups! We got the platters to share and the servings were generous. Pork belly and crispy pork knuckle was amazing. Make sure you try the mango weissbier!
Pork knuckles and beer, nothing to compare! The deco is modern, the location is 5 mins from townhall station. They served really quick even there were a lot of people there.
We enjoyed our food here whilst staying in the city over the weekend.
The pretzel entree came out warm and was yum.
My pork belly had delicious crackling and good mash but the sauce wasn't so nice. Kinda tried to scrape it to the side but it was plentiful.
Husband enjoyed his tasting platter and said the sausages and everything was yum.
We got in on Sunday last min with no booking.
Service was attentive but a little frantic. Waitress told us they didn't expect it to be so busy.
Anyway. Big portions. Good hearty food. Look forward to another visit.
Love the new menu! The food is great and VERY filling. Such a great range of beverages to match. The staff are very efficient and friendly also, especially when it's super busy. Will definitely return
Went here on a crowded Friday at lunchtime.
Food - I had the cheeseburger ($10) and a side of chips ($5.50). The cheeseburger was delicious and great value for money. Hubby had the chilli sausages with mashed potato, which he said were delicious too.
Service - food came out in less than 10 mins, even when it was packed! Very impressed
Decor - lovely restaurant. We went with a baby in a stroller, and although it was fine I wouldn't recommend it - tables were close together & it was difficult to manoeuvre
Food was ok. Went there weekday lunch time with a group of colleagues, there were some confusion on the side dishes. Waiter told me they ran out of the side dish I ordered so I picked a new one. But then I ended up with two side dishes...don't know if it is a good or a bad thing...
Like the glasses used for beer, will go next time for drink.
Worst customer service. The waitress misunderstood my order - i wanted to substitute a side dish and was happy to pay the difference. They charged the full price for the extra side and not the difference. The manager was unapologetic and refused to correct the bill. Their error but wanted me to pay for it !! I will never go back.
UPDATE (9th May 2017) - after providing feedback to the restaurant management about the experience, they apologised for the incident and invited us back for an opportunity to redeem themselves. We agreed to return and true to their word, the service this time around was exceptional. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. It reflects well on management that they took our feedback seriously and addressed the problems. Given our very positive experience this time around, I will be happy to return. The food was good as always.
Three of us went for drinks on a rainy evening at this place. They have happy hours between 4-6 which was good news for our wallets. We ordered three different beers and all of them were house brewed, we also ordered the garlic aioli chips with our beers. Two beers were one litre and they also had a 500 ml option. The chips were tasty but were small for a large portion. We spent $20 each for all of that which I still feel is expensive, but with the location, crowd and vibe of the place it seems worth it. They also serve dinner and you can purchase drinks directly from the bar if you wish too.
Love kick starting the night off at Bavarian Bier Cafe. The food is hearty and it's the perfect to way to start a big night of heavy drinking! The beer are top notch, you'll only find better beer at Ocktoberfest. Schnitzel is a must!
Seriously good grub and beer to die for.
Came to Bavarian Bier Cafe on Australia day (seemed appropriate?) for an all-out breakfast-lunch-dinner. Ordered the Bavarian tasting platter, lemon herb marinated chicken, wedges, pretzels and beer (paulaner & franziskaner).
The Bavarian tasting platter was good - sauerkraut cabbage and mash pretty standard - but the pork belly was fantastic and the crackling divine. Really enjoyed the schnitzel too - cooked to crisp perfection. Sausages were nice (esp. nürnberger) but none were especially memorable. The lemon herb chicken had a very middle eastern aspect and was moist and flavour-packed... liked the dish very much. Loved the soft, hot pretzel and golden, crispy wedges too.
The beer though... I was in heaven. And it complemented the hearty, meaty food so perfectly. Definitely would go again. I feel like this place is best enjoyed on a very empty stomach, a high credit card limit and a mind set on lots and lots of beer.

undoubtedly one of the best brew pub in the CBD area and always filled with super crowd. Was here on the weekend with my friends. Place has good vibe and super ambiance .
We have took long trip on their variety of beers accompanied with the chicken burger. Tried their craft and German beers which are simply awesome. Mango Weissbier is something to mention which is making me to visit this place again and again.
Super quick service and kindly staffs here always make you feel better.Super chilled place to hangout with some really good chill.
Came here for a friends farewell party on a Friday night!
Firstly, the staff were so kind, despite it being so busy and loud, they were attentive and served us fast!
We started off the night with 1 Litre mango beers. And they were so delicious, I actually drank the whole thing so fast! Also we ordered some cocktails. The lychee express was probably my fav cocktail out of all of them!
We started off with the jalapeño and cheese pretzels, they were so good and bready. One huge disappointment was that the staff told us they were missing so many ingredients we didn't get to try half the food or alcohol on the menu.
The food that we did try was great though, salt and pepper squid & pretzels. I wish we could have ordered more from the menu instead of being let down... Want to come again, maybe to a different chain so I can be able to try some of the food!
10/10 love the vibe on a weekend night, love the alcohol, it's a good place to go and chill with people.
There's a sophisticated feel to the York Street Bavarian Bier Cafe which was a nice surprise to the more relaxed beer hall ambience of their other branches. The dimly lit establishment is very befitting of the office clientele where one litre steigls could still be enjoyed and the happy hour specials are generous in options and genuinely good value.
However, our mission to this fine establishment represented a more pressing matter in the name of the humble schnitzel. My friend had been cursed of late experiencing less than ideal schnitzel and chips which one could draw parallels to frozen dinners from the local supermarket. What better way to get a Schnitzel than at a German restaurant. We ordered two Swiss Schnittys which was distinguished by the smoked ham and cheese. The option of mash and fries was taken but erring on the side of caution, I thought it would be wise to remind the waiter to make sure the chips were hot. Despite our best attempts, the curse was not to be broken as it served up luke warm chips. Thankfully, our diligent waiter checked the temperature was and promptly replaced the chips with two serves instead of one, this time pipping hot. The schnitzel itself was of a good size and thickness but also could not avoid the jinx served lukewarm and confirmed by cold dried melted cheese. However, despite my pleasure the cursed one finished her meal and disaster was avoided.
We also ordered the Diablo Chicken Wings rated the hottest option of three and it has a decent kick to it balanced with yoghurt sauce. There was a serve of salt and pepper calamari also served complimentary due to booking on Dimmi which was a welcome surprise.
The seating was comfortable in the booth and the service was very attentive and friendly. Inspite of the warm ambience you are constantly reminded of its roots by the ring of cowbells and paddles with shots beings back that ole Bavarian spirit. I will stick to the more conservative full Pork Knuckle on future visits!
Service is friendly and food comes out fairly fast even though the place gets busy.
The food is tasty but pretty average. The stand out for this place is the portions are huge. I personally didn't try any beers but others I dined with enjoyed them.
Always a favourite go to place for a large group and when you are craving meat. We ordered the platter for 2 and everything was well flavoured and juicy. The BBQ wings were also good.
Bavarian Bier café is comfort food in my eyes... huge schnitzels and hot pretzels washed down with big mugs of beer... Who can complain! Love the pork schnitzels and I cant comment too much on anything else on menu as I refuse to order anything except schnitzels when I come.yum
I visited here on Anzac Day. It seemed not overly busy night. But it might be less number of staff at the venue because they were back n forwards kitchen, bar and customers, never chatted each other... Great working ethic!
The waiters were paying attention to us/customers making sure everything ok.
We waited for beer for 15-20mins, they were served at the same time as meals. It is their policy?
Pork knuckle had crunchy skin, but meat was less flavour. We went to hahndorf in Adelaide a couple of weeks ago, and their knuckle was moist and flavoursome even inside too.
The red cabbage (side dish) was really nice. Potato salad was ok for me, I expected more vinegary to cut off fat. But it is personal preference...
For two knuckles, two sausage dishes and 4 beers plus one dessert for $180, it was great value I thought.
As expected , the authentic Bavarian beer served at this cafe was very good . We ended up here after a hectic day at work. we tried different variety of beers ( lowenbrau - a crisp variety and Paulaner - a wheatish pale ) . For nibbles we ordered potted hummus and vegetable platter and Their signature " Trio of Fries with Dip".
Location is perfect - in downtown Sydney. Service was good but not exceptional . Ambience is just OK.
I haven't been here in years but with a craving for pork belly and needing to choose a venue in the heart of city, this was my first pick. I made a booking and requested a booth on the side which is comfortable and perfect when catching up with my friend. It feels private but your still part of the atmosphere.
Staff were friendly and even for Saturday lunch, it got pretty busy. To start we had the garlic bread then my friend and I both had the crackling pork belly which totally satisfied my cravings. The skin had a good crunch and it was a generous portion. My husband found his Bavarian tasting too filling and left most of their sausages which he found bland but he enjoyed the schnitzel and the pork belly. Good atmosphere and family friendly at lunch time as I saw many prams/kids dining as well.
Always a good place to spend the weekend. Good food, great beers, it's just the music is a bit too loud, making it hard to talk with your friends.
Doesn't carry all the usual German favourites but well cooked, big meals along with a great selection of German beers. Friendly efficient service.

Great space for a bier hall. Has a few levels for events etc.
The bar is front and center as you walk in. Lots of choices. Big hearty meals and very tasty. Have tried the schnitzel and the pork knuckle. Large servings too!
Service and staff was a plus too.

Always up for a trip to this place purely based on the serving size. When it comes value for money you can't go wrong.
Schnitzels are always cooked perfectly. Drinks are huge and selection is great
I went there for a work function and tried their pork knuckle and chicken schnitzel alongside a dark German beer. It was a very heavy meal and there was no way I could finish everything on my plate. Their servings are huge, best if you're someone with a big appetite, it will be worth your $. Service was slow, however it could be because we were a group of 70 people.
I've been a regular at the Bavarian Bier Cafe in the CBD for work functions and socials over the years and it's always given us a good time. There's a genuine atmosphere of the beer hall but it won't get so noisy that you can't hear the person next to you. Food wise the offerings are authentic - you can't go wrong with a wiener schnitzel or a sausage platter. Of course, wash it down with loads of beer! If you still have space... try their desserts - the apple strudel was quite a treat.
Had a huge awesome late lunch here with some friends. The waitress warned us we may be over ordering but we weren't inclined to listen.
Accompanying our stupidly large food order, the waitress impressively carried the biggest beers I have ever seen, just to tie us over till our meal came out. And when it did we conceded we may have slightly over done it.
Pork knuckle and sausages and schnitzel and chips and gravy to name a few. Awesome atmosphere and great service. Would definitely return when I come back to Sydney and recommend to anyone who is super hungry!
Did i say it was crowded? That should not be the word. It was mad! There was beer flowing all around, loud music and a crazy atmosphere. I quite liked their pretzels until i bit into a huge chunk of sea salt. Me and my husband shared a steak and despite being medium rare it was a bit chewy. I reckon the chef failed to give the proper love it needed due to the Saturday night crowd, but overall it was not too bad.
Awesome awesome awesome. I'm a big eater and I never leave hungry. The pork knuckle or tasting plate is the way to go. The selection of beers is good with something for all tastes.
The Bavarian Bier Cafe is a regular venue for social gatherings, birthdays and drink ups. The Bavarian Bier Cafe is particularly popular and known for their big steins of beer. If you're more interested in food; there are delicious options to choose from. The Bavarian Bier Cafe is known for their schitz. The Uber Schnitzel (above, $27) consists of a pan fried crumbed chicken topped with baby rocket, semi-dried tomato and a dash of parmesan. This Schitz sits on a bed of chips with a side of aioli. All the components were perfectly cooked and there is a generous serving of chips. This seems to be a very popular choice! For those who are less hungry, I'd definitely recommend the Roasted Pork Roll (below, $14). The roasted pork roll is topped with long thin strands of crackling, seasoned with spiced apple, slaw, baby crest with a few squiggles of lime aioli. The pork is warm and homely. The smaller side of chips with a side of gravy. This is still a filling meal but it's not quite as huge as the schnitz type meals. If you're looking for a large portion of meat and less of that salad then the Lowenschitzel might be more to your liking. It's basically a giant pork Schnitzel (Below, $29). Meat, Chips and a much smaller portion of salad-type ingredients. I'd probably recommend avoiding the Meaty BBQ Pork Ribs with chips (Half Rack, $19). They were tasty but go to Hurricanes if you are waiting Ribs! So if you haven't been before, come in for some big steins of Beer.. and enjoy the Schitz or the Pork Roll! It's a beautiful bier hall with good atmosphere. Prices: $30 per main Location: 24 York Street, Sydney, NSW 2000 Opening Hours: 11am to Midnight everyday Contact: 02 8297 4111
The Bavarian Bier Cafe on York Street is a bustling destination for many corporate Sydney siders.
Schnitzel and the pork belly are the best I like the crisp skin on the pork belly, sausages are ok but not a highlight of the dish.
Delicious food, a little pricey, not many options for vegetarians, great range of beer.. Every time i go the atmosphere is great, great for groups - families and friends alike, however sometimes the music can get pretty loud.
i've eaten here being a meat eater - its great, filling, large potions but a little expensive for my liking. ever time i visit i always have the pretzel with butter - always a little too salty for my liking but i guess that's where i the beer comes in handy.
today being a vegetarian it was quite difficult with the limited options with only the salads, the sides (salads of potato or greens etc) and a few starters like the pretzel. i ordered the cesear salad for $20 removing the speck which tasted good but i do regret buying the salad as it was what it was - a great tasting cesear salad but nothing memorable. my friend got the chop salad with prawns - which could do great without the sprouts and the honey mustard dressing just tasted creamy no kick or spice. we also got two lady biers - one with banana and the other with lychee which was rather weak tasting in fruit flavour but nice. $80 bill. service can always be a hit and miss - sometimes rather attentive.
This place had amazing pork belly and beer cocktails, awesome ambience a must try
Busy night, one dish came out cold. Waitress very apologetic, took plate back and replaced in record time, and also took off the bill. Food generally ok, but when a place handles issues well you know its good service and worth going back.
Didn't ever have problems with service over the several times i've eaten here. Pretty pricey food but worth your money.
