An increasingly popular brunch spot in Sydney is Paramount Coffee Project, and as you can imagine, people speak very highly of the coffee here. I decided to try out the quirky restaurant while meeting my dear friend. Paramount Coffee Project actually has a really special place in my heart, because it was here that my friend told me about him planning to propose to his girlfriend - my best friend. It was such a memorable morning, and even though the conversation would have happened anywhere, this cafe now brings a really wonderful experience to mind.

Went on a Sunday at around 11am and waited half an hour for a table, it was really busy. The coffee here is perfect and the food is also delicious.

🍞CRUMBED EGGS ON TOAST ($17.5) A very popular dish here and I can understand why. It was full of so much flavour.

🍳SOFT BAKED EGGS w/ PORK SAUSAGE ($21.5) This was a very tasty and hearty meal!

The crumbed eggs on toast had immediately leapt forth from the menu to catch my eye but the inclusion of ham hock had me umm’ing and err’ing. And while there was no vego option (or alternative dishes that I really, really wanted), I figured I could cast the meat aside if I really didn’t like it, which is usually the case with thick meat cuts. But as it turns out, the smoky saltiness of the ham hock combined with the earthiness of the kale was a delicious, moreish flavour combination that worked really well with the eggs.

I was deciding whether to try their EOD but I really don’t do well with black coffee so.... but this white coffee is still insanely good!! and I got the Bibi which might look plain here but once you add the sauce and mix it altogether, it’s really tasty. Healthy too 👌

Aesthetically pleasing cafe sitting in an artistic district with creative, eclectic brunch items that are surprisingly good. As soon as you walk in, the warm friendly staff and chill Sunday vibes will greet and welcome you into the spacious room filled with faded botanical lush. Menu included jambalaya, gumbo, miso ramen, and eggs on toast. While I really wanted to try the jambalaya, it was not available for vegetarians / pescatarians. I had the coconut chowder instead and it was absolutely amazing, even though the portion was quite small. I would never have thought that “coconut” and “chowder” would go together, but the dish was at once savoury with a hint of freshness and sweetness from the coconut. Tasted a little like Thai curry, but I haven’t really had anything like it. Comes with fried potatoes and prawns. Unfortunately there were only 2-3 pieces on prawns in it, which was not enough for me to feel the gratifying satisfaction that I was looking for in Sunday brunch, which admittedly could be quite an overindulgence. The pastry items honestly looked quite average, and I didn’t go with them even though I could probably have used just a little more food.

Since my original post, I’ve visited twice and and really enjoyed both times.

First time round I ordered the creole jambalaya, it was my first jambalaya and I’m a fan. It’s made up of black rice and a chorizo based chunky sauce which is then topped with veggies. It was really hearty and tasty.

The second visit brought more gastronomic adventures of the Ramen and Baked Eggs. The Ramen was miso based and relatively light. Nice and tasty. The baked eggs were nice and light with a good little crunch from the kale.

We got some sweets takeaway and the almond croissant was an absolute standout! Yum!

**Original Review**
The Paramount precinct has got it all. Hotel, cafe, health club and cinema.

I’m going through all of them step by step and have to say they are all hitting the mark.

Today I sampled a few of their coffees.

The Magic has a good intensity and the milk was nice a creamy.

Had the single origin filter which which had a good punch to it.

The piccolo was good too, but I got it take away and it was a bit milky.

Shared the chicken waffle and japanese burger with a friend and it was very filling! Service was great and portions were perfect. The chicken waffle was definitely the more interesting of the two. The waffle was sweet and crunch which worked perfectly with the sweet bacon sauce and fried chicken.

This cafe has a really nice interior, looks very natural and simplistic. The workers are friendly and prices are average. Their milkshakes are always good! Their pastries are pretty good as well! It definitely tastes better than it looks! Their banana bread was soft and the toppings actually went very well with the textures. Their avocado toast was fresh and the bread was crunchy. The french toast was soft and filling. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Overall, a pretty good cafe to try out.

Can be very busy and waited a while to order but waitresses were very nice. Had the Japanese chicken burger which was very tasty. The grapefruit soda was ok but wouldn't recommend if you like sweet drinks. My friend had the coconut chowder and really enjoyed the prawns and potatoes and the soup was tasty.

Had a craving for fried chicken with waffles after watching Masterchef but found there are not that many place that serve it! Luckily Paramount is an exception. I had the buttermilk with crispy chats which was very filling. Also discovered a yummy Vegan milkshake made with almond milk, chocolate and coconut ice cream, couldn't get enough of it.

The atmosphere was amazing - it was busy, yet the staff nurtured us nicely and explained the menus to us in details.! The place is well decorated as well - simple yet with details. The food was amazing as well, cannot really remember the names, but they were nice! The ginger and turmeric was nice, it would be perfect if they have coconut milk.

This place is so spacious and constantly full of people. We shared some desserts - even the banana bread itself was a meal! Thickly sliced, perfectly toasted and just the right sweetness. I love that they also experiment with different flavoured shakes. The apple pie should definitely make another appearance.

The ambience of the PCP was lovely, great music taste, beautiful decor, such awesome staff and even though there was a wait for a table, staff were very accommodating. We ordered the BKE Roll, the bread was soft and sweet, the bacon was juicy, the sauce had a nice tang and kick to it and the kale provided a nice crispy texture. Lovely roll to start of the day!

Loved this place! We were visiting from Melbourne and wanted to check out Sydney’s cafe scene and this place did not disappoint. The coffee was delicious! The best we had in Sydney. The food was equally awesome! I had the crumbed eggs on toast and my partner had the baked eggs. The service was quick, professional and relaxed. The venue was also really lovely to look it. Wish this was in Melbs!

Whilst PCP may be hard to find in the winding roads of Newtown, it is definitely worth a visit. I was greeted with adequate airconditioning in a high rise Melbournesque style cafe - though the bit of construction ensured we were still in Sydney.

I started with the coconut lime watermelon crush. The coconut was the main flavor of the drink, but it was refreshing and nicely sweet. I ordered the gumbo, a dish I had heard about from american youtubers but never actually seen offered. It was amazing! Althought I thought the fried chicken was a bit salty, it was cut through when eaten with the veggies included. Each mouthful was a delicious mix of well balanced flavours and textures. The buttered corn bread also deserves a shout out for being rich and moist. Thus, whilst not the most picturesque, the gumbo was worth it!

PCP boasts a unique menu that will satisfy those that prefer the lunch aspect of brunch moreso than breakfast. So if you're tired of avosmash/breakfast board/bacon+egg roll cafes, then defs give PCP a visit!

Phenomenal experience at Paramount Coffee Project.

We came on a Saturday afternoon around 1:30 pm. It was a busy day but we managed to squeeze a corner at the table outside. We don't mind sharing spaces so this did not bother the three of us.

Service is very thorough and a couple of the ladies who served us were willing to make conversation and talk about the menu with us. Drinks and food came quickly.

We had two teas and the Golden Gaytime milkshake. The teas were barista-brewed and not astringent at all, amazing. The milkshake was also very good, very rich but not too sweet.

I've had their coffee a couple times before. All times were good!

All of us were extremely pleased with our meals. The Crumbed Eggs were as good as ever. The Miso Ramen was insatiable, very nice broth and the pork belly was truly delightful, and the Japanese Chicken Burger was amazing as well.

$80 - $90 for three people. Decently priced for the level of quality we got. Thanks, guys!

Paramount Coffee Project is a third wave coffee spot within a close proximity of Holiday Inn where we stayed. On top of caffeine rich drinks, this place also offers creatively done all day breakfast and desserts.

Out of curiosity, my friend Jenny and I got quite a lot of dishes and beverage here. The lack of visual photos paired with an elaborate list of ingredients was the culprit really. Not all we had however turned out pleasant. One was even a mistake to have.

Their Biscuit and Gravy was a disappointment. Its smoked white pudding sausage was too sweet, sauce way too salted and biscuit crumbly and nothing special. I only liked its tad sour flavored cauliflower, fresh okra, and runny eggs.

I did enjoy their customized plate for my pescatarian friend. They put together wonderfully smoked barramundi, shrimps, and potatoes. This was protein rich, balanced with soft carbs, seasoned on point.

My favorite here was their well-curated and colorful dessert, Peanut Butter Jelly Time Sago. It was something I've never seen or ate before. It has chewy raspberry flavored tapioca, sour fermented raspberries, crunchy candied peanuts and lightly sweetened peanut milk. It was a joy having it in my mouth, given its series of contrasting flavors and textures. Must have.

For drinks, we all liked what we had from their specialized coffee to their refreshing Mango Crush, a delightful mixture of mango nectar, coconut water, sorbet, and mint.

If you are in the area, I suggest giving this place a chance, just skip their biscuit and gravy.

This is one of my favourite cafes and I've been here twice on separate occasions. The ambience here is nice with the high ceilings and resembles a cafe in an art gallery.

The menu selection is quite small compared to other cafes but the chicken waffles are their signature and I also liked the crumbed eggs with kale. I would recommend both dishes and a sneaky side of avo or bacon but it was too salty for me adding the bacon.

Lobby cafes tend to do a roaring trade from office workers too lazy to venture out outside the building for their caffeine fix. The Paramount Coffee Project however relies on no such lazy tactics. Located in the lobby of Paramount House, the former Paramount Pictures building in Surry Hills, Paramount Coffee Project has become a standard venue for brunch lovers looking for a good feed.

My friend wanted to come to this café, so I agreed to meet up here. It was large, open café with many types of greenery inside. The atmosphere felt eerily still but the waiters were nice and welcoming.

I ordered the sweet waffle. It looked very visually appealing and decorated beautifully. It looked much better than it tastes, it lacked impact and tasted like any other waffle. I tasted my friend’s buttermilk fried chicken waffle and it more underwhelming than mine. I personally didn’t like the waffles here and felt too overrated. The lattĂ© was good though. Would recommend to check it out if you’re close by or looking for those good Instagram photos.

This place is simply phenomenal! Our apartment was a stones throw away and we walked in and out in the space of about 20 minutes before heading to Bondi!

A beautiful interior, funky ornaments all around the place & some amazing looking sweets stare at you all over the place. The waitress who served us had exceptional customer service skills & proceeded to have a chat with us on how they turned this old Paramount Cinema into the place it is today.

We ordered the Avo Toast w/ salsa and crumbed egg & the Bacon, Scram & Kale roll and no kidding it came out in about 6 minutes. You'd think it'd be have to be dead quiet for it to turnaround that quickly and with such a quality product, but it was super busy! Food was simply delicious, well-presented & great value whilst enjoying a wonderful atmosphere and design!

Heard some great things about this place and heard they have amazing coffee. So friends and I decided to come here for brunch. Coffee lived up to their reputation. Rich, dark with enough crema. Food wise, I found a little hard to decide. It offered something different to other cafes I have been to. I finally decided on the Crole Jambalaya and my friend opted for their famous crumbed eggs on toast. My jambalaya had a fresh citrusy flavour. It was light but filling. Great for warm days. My friend was a little disappointed with his crumbed eggs. I think he had a high expectation and it didn't meet it. The place is trendy and has a great ambience although you can't get too comfortable as after your meal, you can feel that they are trying to move you along. I think the place is nice but I was not too enthusiastic about the menu or the service.

Intriguing menu items, delicious coffee and a spacious set up are all part of the appeal of this venue.

The wait time is the only key downside I can think of. I'm sure there must be a reason for it, but they have so much free space that is unoccupied by tables, that seems wasted. Perhaps they're constrained by a permit, as they do share the space with some other businesses.

Normally speaking we drive by and gasp at the queue to get in. Today, on a wet post Mardi Gras morning we slide into a table without delay.

Menu has changed since our last visit awhile ago (2 years?). We opt for the Gumbo of fried chicken to share and a croissant for afters.

The gumbo is great, generous and some spicy punch. Croissant is a rarity it seems these days, crispy buttery and large. Coffee good.

Solid effort and service very fast. That's a half mark right there.

Location:
Ten minute walk from central station, very nice venue with high ceilings. A lot of shared tables but they worked well together.

Service:
Friendly waiters knew the menu well, and one of them talked us through the aeropress as he was doing it in front of us, so sit at the meatless benches if you want a view of that!

Food:
- Buttermilk fried chicken waffle ($21.00): the chicken wasn't crunchy but the crushed hazel nuts with the sauce were very nicely paired. However the portions were quite small
- Mango crush ($8.00): a little watery but a very nice refreshing flavour
- Flat white: 4.5/5 however regrets not trying aeropress!
- Cold brew ($5.00): very watery. Would have preferred concentrated quality even if it meant drinking less.
- Tonic ($6.00): tasted a little generic and bitter as expected however the orange slice was a nice addition.

Overall:
Service, location and venue set a very nice atmosphere. Food is very interesting and definitely worth a try!

One of my favourite cafes, I go quite a lot so it's strange i've never reviewed it. Sitting below Paramount pictures where you can see some old school movies is this trendy cafe and roaster. On this occasion I got a park right out the front and found a table easily, all set up ready for customers. It wasn't too busy, but it is on weekends. They have quite interesting food choices and I in particular love the crumbed eggs. Today I got the bimibab which is a bowl of black rice with shredded carrot, bean sprouts, crispy kale, enoki mushrooms and a fried egg with kimchi (I asked for none on mine)
and a tangy sauce. It is absolutely delicious. I had been to the gym and was so hungry that I forgot to take a photo of it!! They serve a good coffee and cold brew. It was an extremely hot day so I got the house made soda with passionfruit and elderflower - perfectly refreshing. Staff are efficient and the ambience is vibrant, people enjoying their cafe experience. The music is modern and fitting for this trendy cafe.

If your taste buds desire a coffee adventure, PCP is the place to be. Beautiful pour over is available on weekends, along with a great mix of menu items, inspired by the American South and Europe.
If you're in a rush, coffee can be ordered at the door, as well as pastry treats, but dining in is worth the wait, allowing you to check out the Golden Age Cinema and memorabilia left over from the Paramount Studios HQ.

When considering the powerhouses who took out some of the SMH Good Food awards this year, expectations sit high for CafĂ© of the Year. The fit-out and in turn your first impressions ring true to these. Cool, collected service sat us quickly, and were attentive in approach. You’re surrounded by never ending ceilings, tall entrances, bright light and lots of air. Cabinets of quality coffee paraphernalia support the impression the coffee will be good, and after you’re first one it’s well and truly confirmed. I couldn’t stop myself, and I've never ordered so much in an early morning sitting.

We were stumped when we looked at the menu. It was a warm morning, and I was aching for fresh, bright, healthy foods and sadly found none appealing. Most options came with egg and read heavy. Fried crumbed eggs, baked eggs, burritos, waffles. All the versions of eggs alongside indulgent and overly sweet and scary options. I settled for avocado on toast whilst I also sampled some neighbouring crumbed eggs.

Avo on toast was basic, and I really expected something spectacular, after all, it’s not difficult to do beautiful things with avo and a good quality bread. It was lacking. There was no textural element and it just felt like guac. I missed the indicator on what makes salsa ‘fermented’ as salsa itself already has the tang and couldn’t identify anything overly different. What I found most interesting was the vegemite sesame cashew butter as usually, not many understand the partnership with avo and vegemite. It works, so I was intrigued on the cashew and sesame. I loved this, so it was sad to see so little on the plate.

The crumbed eggs aren’t so much crumbed, yet are crispy on the outer and have a beautiful golden brown, translucent glow. The yolk was a little over mid-range, yet being unfamiliar with the technique with ‘crumbed eggs’ I don’t know if a runny yolk is even achievable. The cooked mix of pork hock and kale was delicious and rounded and I would consider ordering this if a little later in the day, as it is a heavy dish.

The food presents well but the options are honestly limited. I’d love to visit again after a menu change as there is indicator of skill in the kitchen here. Some better planning and consideration for those with different tastes would go a very long way. I want options.

The decor is very stylish and minimalist and seat comfortable. Our server was extremely friendly and helped us with our orders immediately. Food came out promptly and plated nicely. We ordered the soft baked eggs w/ habanero salsa with labneh and chorizo grits and the buttermilk fried chicken waffle with patatas bravas. The soft baked eggs were delicious with tiny hit of spice. The waffle with the fried chicken was a bit too sweet for my tastes but the potatas bravas was amazing! The patatas bravas was probably my favourite part of the meal. The milkshakes looked delicious, will most definitely try next time!

Your typical suburban hipster brunch cafe. Went as a group of 4 and got the PCP Bibi, chicken waffles and a burger of some sort. Unusual combination of ingredients in all meals but they all worked quite well together. The waiting time wasn't too long either for a Sunday morning which was nice (about 10 min). Service was pretty good as well.

Visited the cafĂ© for the first time. There’s seating inside and out. Paid street parking available directly outside the cafĂ©. Inside is nicely decorated and has a good atmosphere. Ordered a BK roll with American cheese and avocado toast with fried egg. Food was good. Total came to $55 for the four items.

Excellent coffee ☕, excellent service and great food đŸ„— in a cleverly designed space of the foyer at the Art Deco chic Paramount House Hotel. A slow coffee bar and a working coffee bar adds depth and interest to the space. Melbourne vibes definitely felt here 😁

Friendly staff and good menu for brunch - had the bacon and egg roll and avocado on toast. Good coffee too. Only downsides to call out are that it’s a) a little expensive and b) it does get busy, so best to get there early.

Went to PCP for brunch during June long weekend - the place is busy as not many cafes open on public holiday. The menu is fusion of Asian/American style cafe styled food, deco is industrial chic style with high ceiling. We ordered the Fried Chicken Waffles and BKE Roll plus couple of coffees. Food was delicious and service was adequate. Beware of their 20% surcharge on public holiday.

Ordered 3 items, All three were delicious. Mushroom toastie - great flavour , perfect with coffee. Crumbed Eggs on Toast- seems like a popular item. Pulled pork was juicy. Filling altogether. Banana and Walnut Bread - great side and perfectly sweet and crunchy coz of the walnuts. Highly recommend. Coffee was not too bad either. Expected better since it’s a “coffee project”

According to an article published by the Financial Times in February this year, the Paramount Coffee Project in Sydney is one of the best independent coffee shops in the world. That is a good reason to pay them a visit. The cafĂ© is in a heritage-listed building formerly home to Paramount Pictures in the inner-city district of Surry Hills. On my way from the CBD to Surry Hills I literally passed hundreds of cafĂ©s, as stated in the FT article. Of course, I had very high expectations, as I do not visit one of the best cafĂ©s in the world. So, how good was my experience? I truly enjoyed the building itself, the architecture, and the interior design. I especially liked the exposed concrete in combination with the untreated bricks in the walls, the white tiles and the simple metal chairs and wooden tables inside and the concrete table on the outside. Sleek, simple, and giving space to the coffee and food offering. Yet, the coolest object was the vending machine in the lobby, called the lobby boy. I ordered their single origin espresso as a double from Honduras and a batch brew from Colombia. I started with the tasty looking espresso: it was well balanced with flavors of blood oranges, dark stone fruits and spices in the finish. The body was bold, the texture dense and the finish long-lasting sweet like nectarines. The filter coffee from Colombia came with a crisp, citric acidity, the cup was clean and sweet, with citrus flavors of orange and grapefruits and a lingering aftertaste. The cup and the range server were very cute. I liked the 4x4 truck with the gigantic banana in the back. It would have been great to taste a coffee with a banana flavour. That would have been a great match to elevate the multi-sensory experience. The vessel worked perfectly with the concrete table. I could not resist and ordered scrambled eggs on sourdough bread. That is a very Aussie thing, and filter coffee works very well with warm scrambled eggs and crispy bread. Thank you for the nice tip FT! It was a great experience. When you go an visit this place, also look out for the great wall paintings (e.g. “Return to Sender” and enjoy the Vanessa Megan Blood Orange Foaming Soap when you wash your hands in the toilet. It is all about the details, and it is definitely not only about coffee. And maybe you find my signed book, that I have been hiding in the cafĂ©. Live is too short to not have some fun.

One of the most popular cafe in Sydney! There were a lot of people although I visited here on a weekday. Ordered flatwhite, almond croissant, BKE roll, all of them were amazing!
