The best sushi ever. Must try. For hotate lover, hotate nigiri is highly reccomended. Dont forget to spare some space for caramel custard!
Love the food. The staff is very friendly and great service.
So good! Really fresh and they have iPads for each seat so you can order quickly.
It was delicious and I will be back.
Had the sashimi deluxe cost about $20 which had the daily catch of the day. Food is fresh and delicious. Large portions. Value for money. Be prepared to queue during peak times!
Best sushi in Sydney - got to love this place. Looking forward to come back
Very ffresh and tasty. Great service. Very clean and tidy. We loved it.
Great food ! Very fresh and tasty.
Best Japanese in the city!

Sushi was really good and fresh. The grilled salmon was my favourite. Really fast service if you want something that isn't on the train, you can order through the iPad. Food prices were pretty average for sushi train.
Food was ok, not expensive and service was quick. I think they should stay open longer. We went there at 8:45pm because I couldn’t make it earlier and they close at 9:30pm, while it is still full of people outside. Clients came in asking to dine, but they had to leave.
One of the best sushi train places I've been to!! Could taste the freshness of the ingredients and love it. Will come back again next time
Exceptional sushi train restaraunt, a large variety of sushi option with extremely fresh fish! This place is usually always busy so prepare to wait to be seated
Nice sushi train which is definitely on the expensive side, so be mindful how many plates. The chuutoro was much better than the otoro, and cheaper. The seafood was fresh with quick service. You can definitely try a lot of different combinations that other sushi train places don’t have. Good experience but for a sushi train, I’d opt for a more cheaper one and go to a sushi bar for the expensive stuff.
Being here multiple times! Always good!
Our go to place for a sushi and sashimi!
Service is good and food always up to our expectation. Wish they had royalty card or similar, because we come here all the time. Sea urchin steamed egg is our favourite! But not always in the menu
Sushi always fresh here and delicious 🙂 we always come back here and it never disappoints.
Bit pricey but worth the quality and travel here!
There are many choices and the price is not very high
Great sushi, fish is very fresh, good customer service!
Everything is quite good here! Love the environment, love the sashimi! MUST TRY eel sushi, I love it!!! And please try the grilled cheese roll!
Good place to enjoy Japanese food! friendly atmosphere and good quality of sashimi. Will come back next time. Foods are fresh and good. The only demerit is small desk for two people.
Ordered sashimi and sushi. Sashimi is fresh, but it looked like the slice are a bit smaller than before. sushi tasted pretty good! Still recommend this restaurant !
Sushi here is amazingly fresh and is quite nice. Not a place you wanna come to in case you're hungry though, as the sushi here is ridiculously expensive (even if you're grabbing plates just off the train), as well.
this place was recommended by a friend of mine and it was amazing. everything was great and the fish taste fresh definitely going back here soon.
You’d be amazed by the service and food. Their sushi was made with fresh materials. I would always recommend their hand rolls and udon noodles. The noodle soup tastes soo good
Fresh and delicious. Place to find chutoro and hand rolls! Great dessert and service. Reliable quality and food, but pricy. Everything nice comes with a price
Great food, the sushis and sashimis are very fresh. My favorite is the soft shell crab roll, love the combination. The service here is very nice as well :)
Really friendly staff and the sushi is super fresh. Wide variety of choices and quick service. The nigiri selection were my favourite. Would definitely recommend if you’re craving sushi in the city.
It’s a place suitable for those just want a simple, quick but quality dinner after work, especially if you are not really hungry. Sushi’s are fresh, environment is relaxing. Will be perfect if they sell sake:)
Food was really nice and the place has a wide variety. However it’s definitely not appx. $40 as it’s shown here on Zomato. I would say $70-$90 for 2 ppl.
Hands down got to be one of the best sushi trains in cbd for the quality of the food. nice clean place to sit. only thing is it maybe expensive compared to other sushi train but a must try.
Most of the good Japanese restaurant, they are expensive. However, in this restaurant the food is good and the price is on par with it. The waiters are friendly and the food server very fast.
This is a long time establishment, and a place I always try to hit up whenever I'm in Sydney.
It's an established sushi train, which has been around for a while, and consistently churns out good sushi with good quality seafood.
Recommendations include lobster gunkan, salmon aburri, dragon roll, unagi nigiri and soft-shell crab roll.
Decided to also try out the sea urchin nigiri (uni), after watching Mark Weins for the past few weeks umm-ing and ahh-ing over his seafood experiences in Japan having sea urchin. My opinion is that it's ok, but it lacked the creamy seafood heavy flavour, that has been so orgasmically described by Mr Weins. I think I need to hop over to Japan and try it there =P
This is a solid establishment, always worth a visit, despite the pleathora of sushi trains in Sydney. Hope it stays around for a long time.
The food was served very quickly! It was an enjoyable meal. It’s good quality for the price. The waiter and staff are friendly and we were escorted to a quiet table. iPad interaction was also very thoughtful for indecisive people like me.
The sushi is very fresh and there are varieties to choose from. The price is reasonable and service is amazing. I would definitely recommend this place to my friend.
Such a little gem in World Square! We came after work craving sushi & cocktails and it was a lovely evening. The staff were so sweet & lively and the belt had a wide variety of treats.
The sushi at this place is exceptional. Love the concept of using IPad to order items if it’s not there or you prefer to try something interesting. The quality is brilliant and quality is always better than quantity as they say. I was expecting to pay around $125 for 15 dishes but at the end it was much cheaper at $86.20 and was very full at the end. Well done
Makoto is my “always go to” sushi-train restaurant in Sydney. The restaurant had been there for a long time, appearance changed but the quality of food didn’t change!
From simple sushi roll to delicious hot food and noodle soup, Makoto uses fresh ingredients and provide very good service under quite reasonable price. Nowadays, they use iPad to take orders at the table, which is really convenient.
I loved their fish sashimi, and seared nigiri sushi (no matter which seafood they use). The hot udon soup is really good for sharing or simply enjoy by yourself. One thing about sushi training is that you can enjoy so many different types of sushi/appetisers passing in front of you. Give a little bit patience, you might find something new putting on the sushi train:)
The best sushi in town.
Fresh, cut and assemble right in front of your eyes.
Hot dishes were good.
Agedeshi tofu was delicate, with a touch of soy dressing.
Takoyaki was the star, crunchy outside and gooey inside, two different texture, perfection!
Karage was on point, lightly battered and deep fried, clean oil resulting in crisp batter chicken, and combine with the Japanese mayo... it was sensational!
I would say this restaurant is my favorite sushi land in CBD! The food is delicious and absolutely fresh. Lobster gunkan、eel nigiri 、abalone gunkan ,my top 3 recommendations! Spicy tuna is really spicy ! Try!
It’s always busy during lunch time, but better in afternoons or after 8pm, so try to come at non-peak hours to avoid waiting. The fishes are consistently fresh and delicious. I like the big rolls they have, which are 100% hand-made in front of customers. They are so much better than those machine-made ones. You don’t need to wait for the waiting staffs to take your orders as you can order from the ipad on your table.
I love this place personally I feel it is the best sushi in Sydney everything is so fresh.
The sashimi menu is awesome and I always find things I cannot get elsewhere like kingfish etc
Always busy take a number and wait type deal but well worth it.
my favorite was the sashimi, which was so fresh and yum and thick. lots of other choices as well, the restaurant was recently renovated, quite authentic japanese. really enjoyed it.
A small, friendly sushi train restaurant with ordering screens and a great selection. The salmon belly nigiri is incredible! I had to get more than just one plate.
A little bit more expensive than your average sushi train but definitely worth it for the quality!
The place is consistently clean and the fishes are fresh all times. Like the sushi rice there. You can actually feel the individual grains with you tongue. Scampi sashimi is my favorite. The price is slightly higher than normal sushi trains, but the price is well justified by the top quality.
Love this sushi train place in the city. Totally friendly, no frills, just grab a seat, sit down and eat as much as you want. The sushi is always fresh and the cleanliness of the place is great. I love the different varieties of sushi you get here and also love that you sit around the chefs so you can see them in action.
I love this place. They did a huge renovation since I was there last but the food is still fresh and really delicious.
We got seven plates which was less than $35. Not badly priced.
Friendly environment and nice food but the price is expensive when you tried to eat something nice you need to pay more. But the ingredients is alright some are fresh
Came here for lunch around 1pm. This place has always been busy every time we walked past and today was no exception. There was a small wait and we had to write down our names. The system is good and we were seated relatively quickly. The sushi train had a lot of variety and we could also order hand rolls as well as other bigger dishes from the iPad.
The salmon sushi was fresh and sweet. Another highlight would be the Karaage chicken hand roll.
This place is commonly busy. They offer traditional sashimi and sushi and ramen options. The food tastes consistently fresh and delicious. If you are looking for good Japanese sushi’s, Makoto is not a bad choice.
Went here for lunch with my sister today cos you can never go wrong with jap food. I ordered the teriyaki udon and the grilled crab stick sushi whilst my sister ate her fill from the sushi train. Udon was nice but a mistake to order on a hot day. The grilled crab stick sushi however, was SO GOOD. My sister loved all her sushi.
Staff were friendly and service was fairly prompt, only downside is that we had to keep asking for table water.
Overall, a pretty neat place.
This is one of my most favourite sushi places in the city since the early 2000's. The nigiri sushi is always fresh and i always ask for the aburi scallop nigiri and the paradise prawn because its the best ever. The sushi train is always full and its easy distance from town hall.
Fresh food, friendly service and lovely. The udon and salmon sashimi were particularly good. Average of around $20/person. Affordable sushi, would recommend.
The first time I tried the sushi here, it was the grilled platter which was really good and shared evenly between a group of 5 people. I finally dined at the restaurant and the sushi is really good. I recommend the grilled salmon and grilled scallops. My favourite though was the karage chicken hand roll (spicy or non-spicy version) which was overflowing with sauce, so good!!!
The soft shell crab karaage dish itself was okay, so better to just order it in a hand roll or something.
Visited Sydney for business and tried this wonderful sushi restaurant. The food was amazing and the staffs were very helpful and friendly. The lovelyJapanese waitress reminded me that there is hook under the bench that can hold my bag. liked the the ipads they use for ordering, which is quick and easy. Salmon and scampi sashimi were very fresh and yummmmmy! The fisherman soup was tasty!! Will definitely come back next time and try some other dishes.
My favourites were the salmon platter and the soft shell crab. It's a bit expensive though, and they don't have an iPad that you can order dishes from so you just have to wait for what you want to come around
Amazing amazing sushi. I truly madly deeply love sushi but not all places return the same love to me. Makato is so near to where I work yet I don't know why I never came here! Fresh , yummy and quite interesting mix. It is a sushi train and so much more. Coming back for sure.
I was excited to try Makoto. I thought it would be more of a cheap eat, but the menu on here is outdated so the prices and options were different. The minimum plate was actually $3.00 and up and most of the options that circulated were $4.80 and $5.80 or specialty items. We enjoyed the freshness of the ingredients and the food. The options felt limited unless you stay for a longer time, then you start to see more variety. I ordered a kimchi udon bowl which took a long time to come out, but felt like a better value than the sushi.
Favourite sushi train in Sydney!
The size of the nigiris are considerably larger than other places but not only that, the salmon belly here is legit perfection
Makoto is pretty reliable when it comes to sushi. I always enjoy the meals here, and take away platters seemed to also do the trick. Good assortment, customizable, and apart from the mixed eel sushi roll (I didn’t get to try just the eel) which was a bit funky, everything was nice and fresh. I can imagine it would get quite busy during lunch times, so pre-ordering and taking away may be a better option if you work nearby.
The place was my favourite sushi place before (2 years ago). We were used to use 4 times a week, but now i have to say the place is going down a lot. There were a lot of stuff we can choose, now just a few. Hope they will be back on the track soon.
It's hard to get in, with queues throughout the lunch period, then it shut at 2:30 and I decided to go shortly after it reopened at 5:30. The train perhaps doesn't have enough variety but it does have interesting things like abalone and lobster along with good quality salmon and tuna. The gyoza doesn't stay fresh for long and isn't suited to a train. The fancy dishes cost a lot and add up. I got to $34 but I went hard at the expensive dishes, plus this includes $3 for the powdered green tea that you get for free in Japan. I guess there was little to complain about apart from the price though.

I love sushi and their sushi is one of my fav in Sydney. It's priced based on the color of the plates. It was really good. Me and my friends spend about 50k each for a lunch here. Quite expensive but worth the price.
The greentea cheesecake and the tiramisu was okay.
Looking for a quick dinner in the city after work, this was a convenient choice!
There was no queue as got in early. Service was friendly and efficient. Offered to take drink order as soon as I settled in my seat.
Lots of choices on offer, you can easily want one of everything from the sushi train. All the food looks fresh with the sushi chefs constantly making new items for the train and food to order.
I went with a Teriyaki Chicken Udon. It was quite tasty. I especially enjoyed the mushrooms in it as it had quite a sweet taste to it. I also had the Teriyaki Chicken and Karage Chicken Hand Rolls. Both were nice and flavoursome.

Makoto is probably one of the most renowned sushi train places you will find in Sydney.
The food is extremely fresh and delicious. It's a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. It can also get extremely crowded during peak times so I suggest you get there early or just take away.
Hands down this sushi train is the best in Sydney. Their food is always fresh and consistent along with thier friendly service. If you happen to know a better sushi train, please recommend.
This place is the closest you're gonna get to indulging in the type of nigiri and sashimi typically found in Japan. And at modest prices too!
Makoto put simply stands for value for money and is an institute that will give you one of the most genuine sushi/nigiri/sashimi experiences you'll ever have in Sydney. With an array of produce ranging from your standard Kingfish and Salmon to the more common ones found in Japan such as Chu-Toro ('mediun fatty tuna') nigiri, you'll be hard pressed to find something that comes close in quality and variety.
I HIGHLY reccomend you order the Chu-Toro if it's on offer. Beware as this stuff can be a little hard to come by, you'll be paying market prices for a place of this bad boy.
The branch at World Square is pretty small, so best to head there in the early hours of dinner or lunch if you can. Itadakimasu!!!
Best sushi here!! It's literally my favorite place for sushi. Pretty much everything is nicely done in here. But sometimes can't wait to line up just to dine here. Too many people who love this restaurant.
I used to come to this place when it first open years ago and I have been meaning to re-visit. We ordered quite a few dishes, one thing that is notable to mention is that everything was ultra fresh and with impressive array of sushi, sashimi and other cooked creative dishes.
My favorite dishes were fresh sea urchin ships, raw prawn nigiri, scampi nigiri and I loved the steamed spicy scallop with noodles. It was so good I ended up having three of those!
However I found un-nerving sign on the train, which was " BLUE FIN TUNA SASHIMI" these tuna is supposedly critically endangered species. Very concerning, I would think these can not be purchased at Sydney seafood markets?
I am compelled to investigate this further how this place is able to sell this tuna.
I used to go every single week to this sushi train for at least 3-4 years! Then over time the quality drops, I still went last month and I realised over these years their quality of food had gone down dramatically! There no new dishes! Service standards has gone down so much as well! So I say good bye to my fav sushi train. T.T
One of the best sushi places in central Sydney. The quality of the produce is excellent, its fresh and it’s always a treat to eat here. Most sushi places won’t have more obscure nigiri like cuttlefish but this place offers a wide selection that other places don’t and they do it right. The touch screen ordering system is also convenient to use.
Makoto Sushi Bar used to be our favourite go-to sushi place and, even though the food quality seems to have decreased a bit, the sushi are still good! We loved their salmon platters. They are a bit pricey ($88 for this one), but great to satisfy your salmon sushi craving :)
Love their platters. I love the sakura platter more than sashimi platter. Both very fresh and always delicious!
Highly recommend their take away platters.
Dine in - recommend cawanmushi its great 😊 👍
The best sushi train in the Sydney city period.
Clean, good food practices and excellent staff service.
Seafood is prepared and stored correctly, offers a variety of choices that actually look like the pictures on the tablet.
Even other item orders like the tempura taste fantastic.
staff are so polite and attentive as well.
I've been coming here because of seasonal dishes like the Uni sushi which is super delicious! and even saw scampi today.
a must try in my humble opinion.
Top fresh food quality and service with a relaxing atmosphere. Very clean restaurant with friendly staff.
