Great place for affordable but food quality sushi! They’ve got a wide variety on the menu and they don’t skimp out on the ingredients despite the lower cost.
Superb quality sushi, fresh & tasty! A trip here has brought us back to japan. Thank you for the trip!
Sushi Hotaru is by far the BEST sushi in Sydney! I have been coming here for years and it never fails to amaze me. The food is always fresh and tastes incredible, especially the soft shell crab hand roll! Always been and will be my go-to location for lunch and dinners. Good price, good food and good service, highly suggested location to visit!
You get Scampi for $3.80! Can't go wrong with that!
I’ve visited here before but not for a while. Located on the upper floor of The Galeries. I was in the city with niece and nephews and we had a full day of shopping earlier and hungry! We ended up here and there was a small wait for seats at the sushi train. Once we were seated, it was an easy way to choose your food. Select from the tablet in front of you or just grab off the sushi train. All plates are $3.80 except for the gold plates as well as some selected dishes. If you know exactly what you want you’ll find it quicker selecting off the tablet as you won’t have to wait for your favourite plate to pass you on the train. The service is good.
We had selections of sushi, nigiri, inari, and hand rolls. All very tasty. I did enjoy using the tablet and quite an easy for them to centralise everything.
One of the best sushi trains I have tried. Despite the Hotaru chain; there is still excellent quality food. There are new dishes on the train every couple of hours so you must pick your dining time wisely. The pricing is reasonable for a sushi train. One of my best experience with Sushi soo farr!
Staffs were very friendly and all the foods were clean and delicious. And the atmosphere was nice too. definitely will visit again:)
One of the best Japanese restaurant in CBD.The main chef named Mr Rio is freaking awesome, he definitely know how to do sushi not like other fake "wanna-be chef"Spending 100-200 bucks is not a problem at this place.Worth it!!!Can't wait to see their lovely staffs and dishes at this Friday!!!

Overall average service. Had to get up to get my water and I also ordered stuff in the iPad that never came. Thankfully we didn't have to pay for it.
The food was decent and they are constantly making sushi. I really enjoyed the seared salmon!
Really good sushi train. Wide selection of plates, and because there are so many patrons the food is constantly being made, so you know that everything here is real fresh. Recommended.
Sushi Hotaru is a popular Japanese restaurant and sushi train located in The Galeries in Sydney’s CBD.
Orders are placed through ipads built into each table’s area, which is a quick and efficient way of ordering. There was a decent variety of sushi flavours available on the sushi train. The salmon, kingfish and prawn nigiris were very tasty and had a nice, seared taste. The service is friendly and efficient. This place can get very busy during dinnertime, with customers having to wait outside for tables to clear up. Luckily, our group of 10 was able to be seated easily without any wait at all. Highly recommend this place when visiting Sydney CBD.
This place is very popular especially at dinner time so be prepared for a queue! I made the mistake of going on an empty stomach and had to wait a while before being seated. The wait was worth it though considering the variety sashimi they offer and the price as well! Would definitely go back to try more :)
Been here many times and am never disappointed! Fresh sushi at a reasonable price of $3.80 per plate. The queue is always quite long for dinner and the popular dishes can sell out quickly on busy nights but if you can get in early it’s worth it! Highly recommend any of the spicy nigiri and the gunkan!
Waiting for half an hour until this placed is open. A long queue waiting for us when we get back to this place after eating at Grill’d burger.
Try some of their mouthwatering looks sushi! Highlight that torch tamago sushi and salmon volcano roll, taste great! Love it! Price wise. Will be back to try other sushi ❤️
Sushi Hotaru exhibits the quality of a modern and sophisticated Japanese restaraunt/ sushi train; with their touch screen menus and mod Japanese interior. Their menu is somewhat more variegated than a lot more sushi joints in Sydney, such as the extenssive range of hand rolls and side dishes. I defintely suggest trying their sashimi and wagyu yakiniku nigiri! and for $3.80 a plate, who can say no??
Decided to try this place on a whim because we were at the city and it was too late to have dinner back in our area. There was a wait when we arrived but it went by very quickly. The staff were very friendly and efficient. The food was delicious - fresh and of high quality. I would definitely come here again. :)
PS. would recommend the salmon with onion and wasabi mayo - my taste buds exploded when I first ate it. It was so good! The seared fish were also quite nice.
Could not fault this restaurant. Good prices, polite and fast service. Food was amazing. The restaurant is clean and well presented. Highly Recommended
The food was served very quickly! It was an enjoyable meal. It’s good quality for the price.I would definitely recommend this place to my friend.
This sushi train joint is modern, unique and fresh. You order via a screen which is cool because you can take your time and browse all the menu items. The sushi comes out super fast and fresh. There is a huge selection of all kinds of seafood and sushi to be chosen from which is refreshing.
I love that this spot is just around the corner from work. Love the extensive menu. Everything we ate, we really enjoyed. Will definitely be going back! #sushitrain #sushitrain
The food was mind-blowing
Drinks were bomb
Fried food wasn’t too oily
Fish was fresh
Sauces were spot on
Highlight : the ikura & green tea iced latte
Can’t wait to come back again
Great place to go for decent priced sushi! Its a sushi train that also has an ipad where u can order from which is great so you get more options. Service is quick although prepare for long waiting times at peak hours.
Everything (incl some hot food) are the same price with exception of some items such as sashimi or udon.
Some highlights are the wagyu udon hotpot, scallop and salmon nigiri, soft shell crab nigiri.
Food: 7/10
Service: 7/10
Ambience: 7/10
By far one of my favorite sushi trains !! Portions are well sized and delicious, service is fast and tech is very convenient!! Not to mention the price 👏👏 everything always tastes excellent
Love this place. Sushi train with heaps of variety and can order fresh using the touch screens. Flat rate sushi plates and higher cost for sashimi and noodle soup.
One of the best and cheapest duck in-duck out sushi trains. Located in the galleries, this place is convenient to get to. We normally tend to pass by here for a light lunch or light dinner. When you order on the tablet, the food will come to your table within 1-2mins. Sometimes it can be a bit busy during rush hour times, so you may have to put your name down.
Sushi Hotaru is a sushi train styled restaurant located at the Galeries. They have electronic menus for you to browse and order from, which I like as this ensures there are no mistakes with the order. Most sushi plates are $3.80 each, which is great because my record is 9 plates! Pictured are scallop sashimi (my absolute fav!), oysters & iced matcha latte.
Hands down my favourite sushi train! Was devastated when they underwent renovation cause the sushi and the pricing is just simply good. Is mainly busy but always manage to find a spot
Probably the best sushi train I have encountered in Sydney. All the best selections and unique styles of nigiri, sushi, gunkan and more. Personally I like their wagyu, salmon, tuna and kingfish nigiri with egg omelette. You can't go wrong with those 5 items. Along with fishing fish roe, seaweed salad, and salmon roe gunkan. Should always come here for the best sushi train experience.
Probably the best sushi train in Sydney. It's affordable and has a great extensive sushi selection all at $3.5 (apart from sashimi). It's relatively fresh but the only problem I would see is that they do have large lines usually in peak times.
The upside also are that the handrolls are also $3.5 with the same good quality. A lot of other sushi trains charge the handrolls at $5 + but Hotaru keeps it at the same price which is awesome.
Much shorter lines and efficient service than the Melbourne branch 🍣
Sushi Hotaru is hard to beat in terms of variety, price (flat $3.80 for all plates including scampi) and being able to order off a tablet for convenience. Raw dishes were fresh but could be better cleaned and not rushed. Ask the staff for fresh wasabi.
Love stopping here for a light lunch! Not too expensive, considering it's a sushi train in the CBD, but portions have definitely become smaller over the last few years. The food is always great though - very fresh and tasty!
This place is awesome! Though it’s packed during weekends and holidays, we managed to get seats. The seats are kinda small and narrow, so if you’re a big group you may not be able to sit together. There are many choices for both raw and cooked sushi so there’s something for everyone! The price is just right and we found it to be budget-friendly. Don’t forget to try the takoyaki!
When it comes to sushi train style restaurants, sushi hotaru has always been my gold standard. Unrivalled range, very affordable at $3.80 per plate (excluding alacarte) and also quick service. Favourites are the fresh and grilled scampi, the salmon roe gunkan, seared salmon nigiri and yakitori chicken. The touch screen menu and constant conveyer belt of sushi make it very easy to over order, so some restraint is recommended!
Have never questioned the quality of the food here. On today’s visit though we did find the seaweed to not be as crisp as usual; and the flying fish roe was a different flavour, without the usual bursting-in-the-mouth goodness.
Decent food, pretty fresh, fast service.
All plates are same price except for golden plates and side dishes.
Small seats, not suitable for large groups.
Hands down one of my favourite places for sushi train, not too overly priced and lots of choice! The fish is always very fresh and the rolls you may order come out hot and with crispy seaweed. Their desserts are also delicious with the matcha ice cream being my favourite. Service is always quick and friendly even with the high volume of customers coming in and out.
It is a good place to eat definitely, but it’s getting expensive by the time! For me, when the sushi comes, it’s kinda small. What a shame! They divided 1 sushi to half and they serve you with that size! Instead of it, still a good sushi place to hang.
Appearing as a samurai in shining armour Sushi Hotaru once again rekindled my love of Japanese cuisine after yesterday's horrendous experience at Sushi Street. Sushi Hotaru has everything that you would expect from a modern sushi train. The booths are comfortable, the touchpads responsive, the staff gracious and accommodating, and of course the food delicious. There are not many places that you can sit down have a delicious lunch and be out of the restaurant in 20 to 30 minutes completely sated. Alas but for my crapulence I would remain to this day stacking plates higher than is structurally sound. Perfect.
This place is always packed, and for good reason. Most of the sushi is $3.50 per plate so it's very reasonable and I love how much variety there is. I really enjoyed all the sushi I had, and although I'm naming most of what I ate, the soft shell crab, eel roll and LOL roll (prawn katsu) were my favourites. I also really loved the okonomiyaki and takoyaki.
We ordered most of the sushi from the iPad menus in front of us, which was an easy and quick process and ensured our sushi was fresh. I can’t think of any other sushi trains I’ve been to in the city, but I still feel confident enough to say that Sushi Hotaru is worthy of being my go to place.
At only $3.50 a plate, this sushi train is one of my go-to places when I'm in the city craving some 🍣!! Sushi is always fresh as place is always busy. Faves are the grilled salmon and grilled scallop nigiri.
Sushi agitation will not disappoint if you’re after a good sushi restaurant. A range of different sushi’s with quick and friendly service. There are touch screen menus which allow you to order quickly and sushis get delivered promptly.
My favourite sushi train I've been to so far. Haven't been to many but this really makes me want to try more and at the same time deters me from trying more in case they don't live up to the Sushi Hotaru standard. There is a wide selection of sushi and at a low price of $3.50 (or was it $3.90) per dish you don't really need to worry about how many plates you eat.
The staff were very friendly and the whole "train" process went really smoothly.
A good place for cheap kaitenzushi. The standard pricing makes you not stress about the different plate colours and price ranges. You have the computer screens to order exactly what you want if you can't see it on the conveyor belt. You can never go wrong with the grilled salmon or grilled scallop.
Good quality and fresh sushi, one complaint is the table seating for two people. Its extremely cramped and hard to move around but you get used to it
Sushi Hotaru in The Galeries Victoria was good enough for me to visit twice in one weekend recently. Let me take you through the key factors to consider when eating sushi train:
1. Freshness: no one likes eating old sushi, particularly old sashimi or raw seafood. It’s also a bit risky if you’re eating at a sushi train that isn’t busy such that the food has been on the train for hours. Hotaru was packed both on the Friday night and Sunday lunch that I visited. The sashimi was decent (not the most amazing, but fresh enough) as were the raw octopus and scallops. I did have a beautiful spicy seared scallops sushi on the Sunday there though.
2. Variety: going to a sushi train without variety is like going to a yum cha without variety – #epicfail. Hotaru is great – there may not be tonnes of variety on the train itself but you can order off the large menu on the handy tablet in front you. The staff are also really efficient with preparing the dishes including non-sushi / hot dishes. The agedashi tofu at Hotaru is topnotch and super crispy.

My favourite sushi train in sydney. Although busy and sometimes a long wait (they take no reservations), it is well worth it. There are a range of dishes at $3.50 which are both tasty and filling. Good to come here with 1 to 3 people as they don't take groups larger than 4.
The sushi/sashimi are always fresh. Service is average. Varieties are good. Always busy during lunch/dinner time. Economical as the prices are fixed.

Great cheap sushi train place in the CBD that does a variety of fresh seafood sushi and also made to order dishes, my favourite was the sashimi, though the seared salmon and scallop was delicious too!
Delicious !! Excellent sushi train that is so busy and so fresh !! Here line up but shows the quality of the produce. Love the iPad order system - so cool and daughter loved ordering her own things. Can't wait to come back
Hotaru has to have the best price of all sushi trains in Sydney. it also has a large variety of sushi. Always order the soft shell crab and the seared salmon sushi. The iPad ordering system also makes it super easy to get whatever sushi you are craving.
Food was great, one of the best sushi in Sydney. The handrolls were amazing and service was fast. Definitely a place to go in Sydney and I will come back again.
HMMMM Takumi is bomb. All fish are fresh and made in front of you. Great standard price of $3.50 each. Favs are the aburi salmon & scallop nigiri, soft shell crab roll, and king fish nigiri 🍣 🚂 Recommended ~
This is my favourite sushi train ever in Sydney! It is very popular as there are often always queues inside and out. I love all their dishes and I always order their green tea latte when I come here.
This is probably my favourite sushi train in Sydney! Conveniently located inside the Galeries Victoria, they offer a wide range of sushi as well as various other Japanese dishes such as udon or karaage. Special shoutouts to the scallop nigiri and green tea mochi 😍

CRISPY SOFT SHELL CRAB!
I'm all about anything sushi with crispy soft shell crab topped with mayonaise. They serve one of the best one so far in Sydney! Tried it for the first time and I ordered the Crispy Soft Shell Crab Hand Roll and Soft Shell Crab Salad. My friend ordered her usual tuna avocado roll and wagyu nigiri.
LOVE ALL OF OUR FOOD everything was perfect and outstanding. Soft shell was crispy and crunchy, the meat was juicy, and the sushi rice was perfectly cooked as well.
The only problem was how small our table & sit were. It was too small, making it very uncomfortable to enjoy our food. It is even difficult with having lots of shopping bags on our hands. They also fill out our cup half empty, making us have to keep on asking for a refill.

Would I come back? Yes, for the food!
I wanted a quick and cheap lunch. Where I ended up was Sushi Hotaro. The small male human wanted sushi. I have a pathology against buying sushi for foot courts. It was OK though we ended up spending more than I want to on lunch.
It was all the cheaper options on the conveyor belt. I didn't see any of the more uncommon ones. Probably would go back but not with the child. He only wanted cooked tuna and prawns.
I'm surprised I haven't written a review for this place yet! I have been coming here for years to get my sushi train fix. Great place to go with just you & your partner or come with friends & get a table further down the restaurant. There is a bit of a wait during peak times but you don't normally have to wait too long. You write your name down & take a number & wait until your number or name is called out.
Sushi is a bargain at $3.5 a plate except for sashimi & a few other menu items that are made to order. As others have mentioned, you can also order other items on the ipad. Items are the same price unless otherwise stated. My favourite items to order are the spicy grilled salmon & spicy grilled scallop, soft shell crab hand roll, salmon skin, salmon sashimi & the croquettes.
Service is attentive & if you order things from the ipad they generally are made & delivered to you within no time.
This is a great place to grab some sushi & eat as fast or as slow as you want, go at your own pace.
Delicious Japanese food, prompt and friendly service. Came here for lunch on a Friday. Slightlyly expensive being the only down side. I'd come here again.
I'm never disappointed when I visit this sushi train. $3.50 dishes and lots of variety to choose from. The food is fresh and made constantly. The customer service is quick and fast. I love the renkon chips and cheese chicken roll.
Always been a regular at this joint. Excellent customer service and can easily order the sushi from tablet device or just pick from the conveyor belt. Good size portion and fresh. My favourites are the spicy grilled salmon, spicy grilled scallop, and spicy grilled squid.
Tempura octopus was the highlight!
Tender light, crispy, crunchy bite size of octopus tentacle, fried to perfections!
Don’t get me wrong, I love the rest of sushi as well, especially the soft shell crab hand roll sushi and also the scampi.
My meal was completed with matcha ice cream dessert.
Awesome little sushi train in the middle of Sydney's CBD. Fresh sashimi and an array of dishes made to order via the tablet on your table. Most days there will be a wait to get in but it is well worth it.
Yummers !! Super easy to get to through the exit of Townhall Station on the QVB side. Situated near Kinokuniya and Muji, it's the perfect place to satisfy your sushi cravings after a long day of shopping ! Their grilled salmon sushi and takoyaki are my go-to food bites. It was cooked and seasoned well. Sushi is fresh, variety of options, and customer service was attentive despite being busy. Overall had a wonderful experience with the family ! :)
My favourite sushi train in Sydney. Always order from the screen so they make it for you fresh. Too many great dishes to mention and my favourite is their soft shell crab.
Conveniently located and popular sushi train. Always popular and at lunch time a line forms outside on weekdays and weekends. Order from tablet at the booth.
