I wish they still served their coffee with the raisin and the tray, but it is still great coffee and the Gluten Free options were delicious.
Tried their new menu when I was about to leave Sydney! Egg waffle was their all time signature. Their friendly menu would label their recommended dishes. Just choose the star-labeled ones! They will never let you down!
Came in for a late breakfast after landing. Tried the chicken kimchi waffles and they were bomb. Especially loved the crispy parts of the egg waffles and surprisingly the kimchi addition. Customer service was really good and friendly.
The place was very nice and cosy. The food didn't take too long of a wait and the way it was arranged was v nice. Overall the food tasted great, amazing breakfast place!
I came here with my friends who were visiting Sydney. I ordered the waffle mochaccino because it sounded tasty. Although I enjoyed it, it would have been nicer if there were more seasonal fruits dish and less ice cream for balance. My friends were satisfied with their dishes.
The staff were very friendly and welcomed us in enthusiastically. It felt extremely spacious because of the natural light and mirror wall.
The location is really great, just on the Surry Hills side of Central Station, making it a popular cafe choice.
I would recommend coming here!
Ordered the chilli prawn omelette and the “kim chi ken 2”. The chilli prawn omelette is as the name states, with the chilli being very mild. The Kim chi ken 2 is an egg waffle with kimchi inside served with chicken, corn, avocado and miso butter. Food was quite yummy and came promptly, however portions were small for the prices paid.
I’ve actually been here quite a few times and have always loved it! I’ve tried their eggs benny, pasta, omelette, and waffles, and they’re all delicious. I always bring friends who are visiting Sydney here because nothing really can go wrong. Great coffee too, coming from a coffee lover~
I've been here for brunch and coffee dates but never had the whole place booked out and decked in balloons and flowers and sunshine streaming through the windows! Great selection of cakes and refreshing Ice Tea! Wish they didn't use so much paper cups as we were sitting indoors.
Conveniently located close to Central Station if you need a bite before taking off at the train station. Enjoyed Kimchi Ken 2.0 which was waffle served with tender grilled chicken, kimchi and salad. Chai latte was lovely in the cold weather.
You really do pay for what you get! At first glance, the menu seemed a bit pricy (+$6.50 for salmon, yikes) but the food came out and it was just spectacular. The ‘Not A Benedict’ was very interesting and not quite what I had predicted it would be, but I loved the crunchy sweet potato they used instead of bread as the base. Their drinks are another specialty, and the cold brew coffee and iced tea we ordered really proved it. Final tip of the icing was the super attentive staff who made sure our brunch experience was going perfect. Definitely recommend this cafe!
This place is really great. Been here twice and had the kimchi ken and it’s not a Benedict, both were great
Coffee is really on par too, I’d highly recommend their pour over range and the flavour profile description which they provide with it.
I love this place
this place has a really lovely open ambience opposite Central Station, and the chill music really set a good mood. The service was OK, but the food was soooo delicious and I did not have to wait long. They also cater for all different dietary requirements, with some really yummy vegan options! The vegan black rice porridge was HUGE, very generous serving and it tasted amazing, so creamy, warm and comforting. It was quite sweet, however it is refined sugar free which was good. The only comment I would make is to put a bit less rice and some more fresh fruit so it’s a bit more balanced. I recommend trying this place one time because their dishes are quite unique.
Great food, lovely staff, easy to get to, I love the specialty iced tea!
Portion size is very standard brunch size (which is a little small for my endless stomach) but it’s still very worth it.
Beautiful presentation and tastes really good. There are plenty of interesting fusion style foods and many cater to allergies and dietary requirements.
Really enjoyed my experience at haven. Very nice cafe with good ambience and delicious food. Can't wait to come back and try everything else on the menu!
Amazing waffles and pasta. Courteous staff and great place to be with family and friends. Also, the salads are really good as well. A good place for vegans as well.
Good coffee! Good atmosphere and service experience. Surry Hills is always a good place to find great breakfast or brunch. Near to the central station
My daily go to cafe on the way to work. The staff and the thought that goes into their dishes never disappoint. The coffee is specialty and I reccomend ordering the ‘magic’. It is truly magical
Coffee is taken very seriously here. It’s an art for them and I, along with their many customers, are thankful it is. It’s probably the best coffee in the Surry Hills area. I have only popped in for coffee and am looking forward to returning and trying their breakfast menu. #havenspecialitycoffee

Conveniently located near the Central station, Haven specialty coffee offers experimental dishes for adventurous foodies! But if you don’t want black rice cooked in almond milk or kimchi in your waffles, come for their great tasting coffees! Their polite, pleasant and passionate baristas make sure to only serve well-executed hot and cold drinks! Just look at this mocha! Simply irresistible!

The food is fantastic. Came here half an year ago. The menu changed a little bit. But still amazing.
We ordered wagyu beef burger and smashed eggs & avo.
Beef burger is juicy. It got halloumi cheess, onion, lettuce. They are of good quality. I loved it. Smashed eggs & avo is beautiful as well. We added smoked salmon. It’s like whole pack of salmon was added to it.
Overall the shop is spacious. They got fancy deco there as well. Highly recommend it and defo will come back!

Had lunch here at Haven, the staff here were friendly and attentive. We ordered the squid ink pasta with smoked salmon and also a unagi on soba noodles. Pasta was delicious, where the squid ink complemented the smoked salmon well. While for the unagi dish i found it to be alittle bland, but yet very tasty especially the unagi. We also ordered the hokkaido egg waffles, and i think was the highlight of the lunch. All the flavour complemented each other 👌
Finally visited this cafe with my bestie. Really friendly staff and lovely decor 😊
The first cafe store I’ve visited which offer dry fruits with coffee! Cute presenting 💓💓 and latte art did make my day.
Omelette & asparagus
With goat cheese 🧀, my bestie YU Pan , she thought the omelette is fresh and light and different from others which are quite oily. (I refuse any goat products, lol 😂 )
Hokkaido egg waffle 3/5
Hmmm, I thought the waffle is made from matcha powder, eggs and flour. But the waffle is not matcha flavoured. ( SAD 😔 ) Japanese Matcha sauce is watering, not as good as that of ‘Cafe Oratnek’ . Overall is too sweet.
If I had one super power, it would be teleportation. The first place I’d take myself? Quite possibly Haven Specialty Coffee. It’s always my first go to as soon as I arrive in Sydney because it’s absolutely adorable and the kitchen just churns our banger after banger. Pictured is the squid ink pasta with egg and salmon from my last visit. Hands down best lunch I had the whole trip. Happy days people, happy days.
I’m from Melbourne, so of course I was keen on visiting the best cafe in Sydney with the best coffee.
So?
I ordered what is on trend in Melbourne - a magic - which I was surprised they knew about in Sydney, (sorry Sydney, you are trying to catch up to us:p)...Anyhoo, while the froth on my soy magic was just a tad too thick, the actual house roasted coffee was great!
I also enjoyed a refreshing house made granola which I must admit was price wise better than what we’d pay for in Melbs.
Loved the overall relaxed environment.
Well done!
Beautiful atmosphere cafe design location near central station, hokkaido egg tart is really recommended . It’s not bennedict with rosemary and sweet potato look special. For the staff they had good customer service
I went this place on a Saturday afternoon for brunch. It was really really busy we waited for like half our. The coffee was very different and taste decent. Very fancy presentation and food was pretty good. Will go back again.
Maybe I ordered the most yummy dish in the cafe I really love this eelness bowl of Japanese style
nice staff convenient and popular cafe near central
I will come back for the eelness and other food definitely
Chocolate egg waffle is very delicious. It's the best a person or a foodie could have . Really amazing taste and a good presentation .😍😍😍😍😍
Delicious food, reasonable price, attentive waiters and only 1 minute walking from Central train station are enough to make this cafe winning my heart and tummy! ❤️
Great location, right outside of Central Station, and dog friendly, with quite a lot outdoor seatings. Had the It s not egg Benedict, yum! The portion was normal, not too large or small. The next table ordered the waffles, looked amazing. The coffee was special but tasted ok. Very friendly and helpful staff. Will definitely visit again if I m in the neighbourhood. The only prob is it s right next to the light rail construction site, a bit annoying.
Food is beyond expectation! My friend got the Hokkaido pancake which is very nice as well. The girl named Suwan is so sweet and helpful! Will recommend this place to my friends.
The coffee is really special here! Tried the ‘not Benedict’ egg. Less calories, same goodness 😄 I love the egg waffle best. The matcha sauce is not too sweet and goes really well with the red bean paste and ice cream. I would go there again.❤️
Have heard of this cafe for long, but never tried before.
Today I passed by central station, best chance to try the coffee.
Since I drink soy(someone of you may think coffee with soy is not real coffee, but I love the special flavor), I had soy Cappuccino, taste good(but actually I’m not very professional in drinking coffee, just feel like if I don’t have it I feel awful)
Will come here for brunch with friends.
this is absolutely one of the best brunch I‘ve ever had … hope could go there again very soon… special and delicious …most importantly not very sweet!worth trying!
A famous cafe near central. Went there with my friend. The cafe has a relaxing atmosphere as well as kind staffs. I had the squid ink pasta and Dragon's Breath that day. The pasta was excellent with smoke salmon. The squid ink sauce was quite tasty. But Dragon's Breath was just so so, there was no difference from common mint fruit juice. My friend had her unagi soba and mocha and she said they were good. And after that we had their egg waffle which I thought was the best on their menu, recommended!
Positively enjoyed the environment, very chill and the customer service was definitely on point.
Food wise, we ordered the ones that were different from other places. The eel plate had potential except the soy sauce was just extremely salty. On the other hand, the eggplant dish was abit too oily but other than that was very satisfactory. I love it when places give many slices of haloumi.
Future wise, I will be definitely be going again to try other food choices as their dishes are very distinct and innovative! Would say go for it!
Across the road from Central Station, Haven has been a regular spot of ours whenever we feel like Egg Waffles!! A favourite of ours over the last 4 years, we have seen different seasonal menus come and go.
This is one the Hot n Cold from the Winter 18’ Menu. Pomegranate, vanilla ice cream and a steaming baked sweet potato inside, which really offset the sweet ice cream and the sour of the pomegranate. With a light sesame seeded wafer to add come crunch.
The drinks pictured are the Perfume and the Marilyn. Light and clean flavours, not exactly what you would expect. The coffee is always on point at Haven and the staff make the atmosphere super comfortable and relaxing. 5/5 customer service every visit!
Awesome staff, love the decor, had a fancy piece of charcoal in the water that came in the table (activated charcoal?). Fairly close to the station, food was tasty and presentation was creative.
Please, I beg you to open a store in Melbourne! I haven’t had such delicious brunch since then... So sad... Such a fantastic cafe. I even want to fly to Sydney to have brunch here particularly
We came just for the matcha bubble waffles after a 40 minute wait to be seated. To be fair - it was a Sunday. The waffles were light and fluffy - served with red bean and matcha icecream.

service (5/5)
Ambiance (5/5)
Price (4.5/5)
One of the best coffee shops in Surry hills. Never had a bad coffee here and the staff does explain the origin of the coffee you are enjoying. Food also compliments the coffee. Highly recommend it.
I love this cafe for many reasons but my favorite would be there coffee. It's honestly one of the best tasting I've had in Sydney, they also do a killer brunch menu.
First time I came here I tried the Hokkaido waffles while my friend ordered the squid ink pasta. The waffles were very delicious and since I'm such a big fan of green tea, it was perfect. However, I am not a very sweet person and would rather have this for a dessert to be shared after a meal. Overall, would come back to try the other items.
Ooooohyes!
I really recommend the matcha waffle dessert (Hokkaido) for all you matcha lovers. It had a great balance of sweetness to it, yum!
Nice place to sit down and have a cup of wonderful pour-over coffee and yummy burger.
I will introduce my friends to try. 😉 Next time I will try other brunches.
Nice coffee, good services and lovely place. The food presentation was instagram friendly but the taste was not outstanding. Reasonable price.
Good food and service with lots of vegetarian and vegan options. I got the black rice pudding which was well presented and also well portioned. They decorated the dish with edible flowers which made it look really delicate. Delicious, full of nutrients and healthy.
Friendly people, close to transpo and has a relaxing ambiance. Can get a bit busy on some days with queues.
A bit pricey for a regular meal and coffee but definitely relatively cheaper compared to other brunch cafes.
Waffle was great, the dark chocolate had the right sweetness that I would expect. Enjoyed the texture given by the sprinkles on top of the waffle. Coffee was nice with the bits of berries you can enjoy with the good tasting coffee.
Must visit with for hang outs and catch ups.
Good fusion food and tailored coffee served here. Cozy cafe however can be quite loud as they’re quite popular during lunch hour.
We enjoyed the K-Pork Steak Sandwich on the current menu, and the milk oolong tea was great! :)
This place is a bit pricey for its portion size, however with quite unique flavours to choose from.
While travelling through Sydney with the amazing @thaliasfoodieeats, we made sure to stop by @havencafesydney to get our brunch on! 🍳

With a well thought out Asian fusion brunch menu, you're sure to find something to love. I went weak at the knees for their Pork belly burger, packing the softest and most sizeable chunk of melt in your mouth amazing pork belly I've ever experienced at a brunch spot.
.
The main event however at @havencafesydney is their specialty coffee, they specialise in making expert coffee, tailored to suite you. So if you're a bit of a coffee lover like myself you can ask for different factors to be changed to suite your liking, from the Aroma, Sweetness, Acidity, Body and even the aftertaste!
.
So if you're a fan of coffee and want to try one of the best cup of joes that Sydney has to offer, you don't have to look any further than @havencafesydney 🙌🏾.
Such a cozy place to have a coffee and chat! Friendly staffs as well! The ambience of this coffee shop is just so cozy! Love the matcha cake, but not a fan of the dark hot chocolate. But still recommended!
What a gem right next to central station! Popped in here for a morning coffee and as it wasn’t a standard “skim flat white” coffee order, I asked the barista for help. He suggested a white coffee with a berry blend, stating that it was better for the milk coffee. He was very helpful and I was grateful for the help!
Boy was he right! The coffee came out at a perfect temperature and I could taste the hint of berry which was delicious.
Great vibe, location and punchy coffee - this will be my new spot at Central!
Ell-ness is definitely my favourite. I didn’t know eel could be this tasty. The sauce was a perfect combination with the eel. Worth to try!
The matcha waffle was perfect as dessert. Not too sweet and refreshing.
The place is so busy in the weekend for brunch so be ready to wait a lil long to be seated.
I enjoy the coffee here a lot. The food were great. The most unique and special taste is the one with watermelon, it’s refreshing! Ambience and atmosphere are good enough.
I... LOVE HAVEN.
I've come here many times now. Once on a public holiday (BUSY), a couple of times during lunch hours, and some days around 8am. This place is always pumping and full of bright and vibrant energy, simply amazing.
The incentive to come came from an Instagram photo where I saw some egg waffles.
The cafe is a large space with a cozy rustic feel.
The food is here really tasty. So far I've tried the Kimchi Waffles and the Salmon Benedict. Though two common dishes they were also very unique and full of amazing flavour.
HOWEVER, it is the coffee that shines through. Every coffee I've had so far has been consistent, from the espresso to the pourovers to the cold brews. The geisha cold brew, in particular, is absolutely beautiful. It literally brings me to the knees how good it is.
If not for social media I would have never noticed this place. The cafe is hidden behind and ugly construction site, so it's easy to miss.
Recommendation: Definitely go for coffee!! ANY COFFEE!
Yum! Came here after seeing the delicious looking pictures and it did not disappoint! Really great atmosphere and friendly staff (were inattentive at first but redeemed themselves afterwards). We ordered:
- eel-ness: I love eel and just everything on this dish worked. I was super surprised at the thought put into this dish. This is a big winner if you like eel. Eggs were nice and fluffy, the onions were nicely pickled and a mouthful of all the ingredients together was just delightful.
- smoked salmon pasta: the raw yolk made this pasta super creamy and the pasta was well made. The subtle flavours from all the ingredients really made the smoked salmon shine in this dish.
Overall, this was a lovely experience. Food was well thought out and even though it was a little costly, it was well worth it. This cafe has a great concept - so much better than its competitor Devon (who also has a Japanese inspired theme). I’ll definitely be back!
With such a unique name, there’s probably not many Sydneysiders who havent heard of Haven Tailoring Coffee Joyously. And whilst the idea of tailored coffee doesn’t appeal to me (I’m not a big coffee drinker), I am a huge fan of their menu.
The House-smoked Salmon Pasta is a looker, the plating of the dark black squikd ink covered pasta contrasting with bright orange of the raw egg yolk sitting in the middle of the dish is pretty impressive to say the least!
But my favourite has to be the Eel-ness, especially the accompanying tofu scrambled egg delightfully fluffy against the chew of the black rice cake.
I had brunch here yesterday with my partner. The menu was alot different from ones I have seen at other places and I loved it. These guys specialize in coffee and their menu is Japanese inspired.
We tried the croissant but replaced the bacon with pulled pork and added the mushrooms, the pork belly kimcheese burger, banoffee waffle and the kimchi-ken waffles. The food was amazing! The pork belly melted in my mouth. It is slow cooked overnight which is why it is perfectly done. The banoffee waffles were my favourite! I love egg waffles and these guys do one of the best salted caramel sauces I have ever tried! I also loved the kimchi-ken waffles but I think the dish would be better with abit more sauce and the fried chicken was a bit too crispy! The service was great and the actual cafe has a great vibe to it. If you want to visit make sure you get there early as there was a line of people waiting to get in. Definitely worth a bit of a wait though!
Been coming here for years - great coffee, great homemade style food. Top picks is the smashed avo. The owners are lovely too! A top cafe in city
Really like the waffles with matcha, it is so tasty. I cannot even finish it by myself. However I don't like the mocha, taste wired. Staff are really nice.
One of the favorite cafe around Surry Hills.
Been here a couple of time prior to this review, so I’m adding also the pictures from last visits.
Geisha, cold brew is having a expensive tag price price, $9.
It’s a good experience to have this Geisha on hot Sydney day!
Did order couple of items on the menu to share,
Mango and pandan was nice and super refreshing!
Eel-ness giving a breakfast with Japanese twist, I found this dish overall is a nice comfort Japanese breakfast.
Went for brunch with 2 friends on a Saturday. Very busy but managed to snag an outdoor table without waiting (the upside was that we got to pet lots of dogs!).
We all ordered their egg waffle dishes but none of us finished them. Personally it was because I found mine (the matcha option) too sweet and the egg waffle too dry. It was actually my second time there as I wished to try the matcha one having ordered a different one on my first visit and found it too sweet. I hope the bitterness of matcha which would have helped offset potential over-sweetness but unfortunately the matcha flavour was not that strong for me. The coffees were good.
‘It’s not a Benedict” is definitely not your traditional eggs benedict, but absolutely delish! Beautiful cafe, great atmosphere, good service.
Haven is nice brunch place with Japanese inspired menu.
Kimichi Pork belly Burger was Devine, perfectly balanced with a light sauce. 4/5
Salmon pasta is super delicious, refreshing with a drizzle of egg yolk. 4/5
Waffle was disappointing, under cooked and toppings just didn't work. 2/5
Summer means ice cream and when coffee, matcha and ice cream comes together, it is heavenly! I went back twice for the matcha affogato in one week because it is so good and so addictive. It looks like it will be a summer of many addictions. More to come!
I selected the pandan mango dish from their signature waffle collection whilst my friend opted for the tiramisu. By the time I had finished taking photos of the edible works of art, the mango sorbet in my dish had almost melted. Nonetheless, the coolness of the ice cream complemented the warm waffle well. My dish consisted of an interesting remix of pistachio, goji berries and coconut cream rice. Whilst the diversity of flavours made for an interesting taste experience, the pistachio and goji berries seemed a tad random. This was my first time trying pandan and whilst it wasn't my favourite, I appreciate the experience. The cafe emanates a casual, relaxed vibe which makes it perfect for a catch up with friends. I give this place a high rating because it had tasteful decor (complete with flower bouquets hanging down from the walls) and the piano in the corner of the cafe won my heart.
Met up with an ex-colleague for brunch here and we enjoyed our food! They serve the egg waffles which is getting to be quite a popular item nowadays. Mine was a black sesame flavor with black sesame mochi, black sesame sauce, sesame chips and ice cream. Anything with black sesame I'm there! Service was friendly as well!

🎆: Great place for a weekend brunch! ⠀⠀⠀⠀
💡: Be sure to go early, as there is often a line
Coffee was one of the best I've had in Sydney, although they have the giant chart for customising your coffee its only optional and asking for a regular coffee will get you something amazing anyway. They have a good selection of food on the menu and it's all reasonable priced and well presented. Definitely will be coming back to try the waffles next time!
We always come here for the egg waffles. You can get them in all creative flavours and Insta-worthy presentation but we love that we can also have them traditional and plain, just like the ones you will find on the streets in Hong Kong. They do them so well here, the flavour is great, the sweetness is subtle and they're crispy outside while fluffy on the inside. It takes us right back.
I've also tried the other dishes (salmon pasta) and they have been excellent. But I can't get past how excellently authentic the egg waffles are that I don't end up choosing anything else and this becomes my go to place when I'm feeling it.
.. and not to mention the coffee is great, and also love the dragons breath drink ;)
